Holy shit! I just watched the pilot for Caprica, damn I am already impressed! Cylons and good sci-fi writing that comes off better than any movie I have seen in recent years. Picking up where Battlestar begins I’m thrilled to see how this unfolds, how the Cylons become self aware and how much other awesome shit is bound to happen over the first season of this show. One of the tings I really liked about Battlestar was the show was stopped before it got a chance to go stale, Caprica looks to be alomost as amazing and a great indirect way to give me more psycho Cylons and another awesome sci-fi series to obsess over.

Ill. college students accused of kidnapping, battery with freshly baked cookies

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) – Two students at Southern Illinois University in this St. Louis suburb kidnapped, paddled and burned a young man with freshly baked cookies after a drug deal went bad, prosecutors said.

Madison County prosecutors on Monday charged Rosario James, 23, and Jordan Sallis, 20, each with two counts of aggravated kidnapping and one count of robbery and aggravated battery.

Both were jailed Tuesday on $150,000 apiece.

Sheriff’s Capt. Brad Wells said that Friday night, three men went to James’ house to buy marijuana, but two of them grabbed the drugs and fled, leaving the third behind. The suspects held that man, who is in his late teens, and told him he needed to find $400 for the drugs, Wells said.

The suspects beat the man with a wooden paddle, burned his neck and shoulders with cookies immediately after taking them from the oven, shaved off some of his hair and poured urine over him from a soda bottle, Wells said.

“It was just sheer torture,” Wells said.

Hours later, Wells said, the victim managed to escape and call police after the suspects drove him to a house in trying to get money for the drugs.

The victim sustained severe bruising but was not hospitalized.

Both suspects were arrested Saturday morning.

There was no evidence that James or Sallis had been using drugs before or during the alleged torture, Wells said Tuesday.

“Basically they ripped them off of their drugs, and they took exception to that,” Wells said.

There was no record that James or Sallis had obtained an attorney as of Tuesday, a Madison County court clerk said.

I have been doing a little work on the planning side of things for my holiday. There have been some changes and these will be explained below.

Firstly, I have decided to push the holiday back a bit. There are a few public holidays during January 2010, so I think I can cope with a few extra weeks at work before needing the break. So instead of taking the holiday at the start of February, I am thinking of taking the holiday for two weeks in late February – early March 2010, or maybe a week or so later than that.

The later time for the holiday will also allow me to save for the trip and ensure I have everything I want for the holiday. I may even be able to get a digital video camera by then, which will be a great plus.

Secondly, the destination has also changed. I won’t be going out west as temperatures out that way are sure to be very hot and somewhat unbearable for any bushwalks I would want to do. The out west option will need to be looked at for a winter holiday (even though night temperatures are bound to be quite cold then). I do have a plan underway for that option also, which will probably mean a holiday in about August – September 2010 (but that is another story for another time). So to make sense of these two possible (probable) holidays in my Blog posts, the earlier holiday will be called the summer holiday 2010 and the later the winter holiday 2010.

So instead of going way out west for the summer holiday 2010, I’m thinking of going west a little (and to the south), before heading back to the southeast and travelling through the far southeast of New South Wales.

Are there any solid plans? Solid may not be quite the word for it, but I am settling on what I’d call a fairly sure itinerary for the first couple of days of summer holiday 2010. The date is certainly not fixed and that is really quite flexible at the moment. The itinerary for the first few days will probably be:

Day 1 Destination – Dubbo

Day 2 Destination – Conimbla National Park

Day 3 Destination – Wagga Wagga

So the next stage of planning will be to iron out the itinerary for these first three days before moving on towards my planned far southeast New South Wales travels.

Last night at midnight I went out and bought Inglorious Basterds and well, I am quite happy about that. However I am stuck at work and bored and wanting to watch that movie and decided to make a quick list of my favorite Tarantino characters, Enjoy!

10.Budd-’Sidewinder’

Budd is a filthy gritty disgusting tobacco chewing asshole, and that is awesome. Budd is not only the funniest of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, but he is also the only one who managed to get the jump on the bride through out her deadly rampage. Madsen is gruff raspy and bad ass as always, we need more characters like this out in cinema.
9.Stuntman Mike

Wierd, Creepy, Sadistic and totally fucking nuts! Kurt Russel as Stuntman Mike is hilarious and demented. My favorite part of Death Proof when Mike yells “I’m sorry…I didn’t mean to, I was just… playing around!” The Death proof car was pretty awesome too.
8.Sgt. Hugo Stiglitz

Til Schweiger is one of my favorite unknown actors, when I realized he was one of the Basterds I was thrilled. This was the first movie I had seen Schweiger in since SLC Punk (I’m sure he has done others I have not seen) and Hugo was ruthless, funny, and a confirmed Nazi killing professional. He was enjoyable to watch and carried the storyline on well, I really was not into him being killed in the bar scene, but at the same time I do not doubt the writing of Tarantino, he seems to know what he is doing.
7.Go Go

What a strange creepy little sadistic bitch Go Go turned out to be. In a movie like Kill Bill the fact that someone with such a relatively small role could have such a strong and memorable impact on the story is truly impressive. Chiaki Kuriyama should be put in more movies that I can purchase without have to import from Korea, because she is insane, and I like it!
6.The Wolf

Like The Wolf I like my coffee with lots of cream and sugar. The Wolf is cool and smooth, and often very funny. I had a hard time picking between Harvey Keitel’s character in Pulp Fiction or Reservoir Dogs, in the end I went with The Wolf because he is funny and bad ass!
5. Bill

It still saddens me David Carradine has passed on especially in such an strange manor. Carradine was as cold as I’ve ever seen an actor be and I loved how he interacted with every other character. He was dark, condescending, a prick but lovable at the same. It takes a really special actor and writer to create a character like Bill, and damn was he amazing. It is a damn shame he is gone.
4.Mr. Pink

Ahhh Mr Pink, “Mr. Pink: Why am I Mr. Pink? Joe: Because you’re a faggot, alright?” Great quote, one of Steve Buscemi crowning achievements in a long list of amazing films. He is all high strung and pissed off through this whole movie and I can help but keep laughing at him. Buscemi is one of the best actors out there and has continued to rock hard in every movie he is in.
3.Lt. Aldo Raine

Brad Pitt has restored my faith in him as an actor. Lt. Aldo Raine if fucking hilarious, and he is all about 1 thing and 1 thing only, killing Nazi’s! Inglorious Basterds is pretty insane movie and Pitt is the leaders of the crazies. I especially like the scene in which Pitt is speaking “Italian” that might have made me laugh harder than any other movie this year. “Correcto”
2.Beatrice Kiddo aka The Bride

Uma was surprisingly amazing as The Bride, she kills a hell of a lot of people and manages to maintain her motherly instinct! According to imdb.com there is a kill bill volume 3 in the works, and well I just look forward to seeing this big footed warrior continue to hack, slash, and be vengeful in such a stylish way. Kill Bill was so widely recieved as a smash hit in terms of a revenge story that I when I see Uma Thurman now, she is The bride, that is her name, not Uma, The bride sounds better. I also give a tip of the hat to Tarantino for being able to make such a wonderful homage to hong kong cinema in general.
1.Jules Winnfield

ENGLISH MUTHER FUCKER DO YOU SPEAK IT! Shit, Jules Winnfield was not only the most defining role of Samuel L Jackson’s career, Jules was the biggest reason that Pulp Fiction was so memorable. Sam’s portrayal of Jules it not only launched him on the map as the ultimate bad mother fucker in Hollywood, even if he does choose some crap like Freedomland or Sphere. It doesn’t matter, Sam not only proved how good he was as an actor he showed how strong of a performance Tarantino could get from one of his actors. I would go as far as to say without Samuel L Jackson playing the character Jules Pulp Fiction would not been nearly as good and both Tarantino and Jackson would be in very very different spots of their careers.
