It was rainy today at the beach. I had to work at getting some contrast out of the monotone sky and sea. The lifeguard’s surfboard helped rescue an otherwise plain scene.

As I type, I am sitting atop my surfboard…. the surfboard I found at a flea market, 3 hours inland, about 6 weeks ago.  I just picked her up from the repair shop today:  her bruises have healed- only scars remain.   She’s sporting a new sticker, new finbox, new leashplug.

I didn’t know I had any desire to surf and now, this old board can’t wait to hit the water and frolic with Mother Nature.  And I’m going to take her there.  If my ex-husband knew, he’d laugh at me.  And he’d tell me I can’t.

Freedom is delicious.

Se trata de una Larry Bertlemann High Pro Twin (6,2-19 1/2-2 3/8) y me han cautivado esas formas ochenteras y esos canales que recuerdan a las míticas Hot Stuff. Vale, lo confieso, han sido los colores lo que me han llamado la atención, cada uno tiene sus debilidades y la tabla es preciosa ¿no?

I got fed up with chasing my board after wipe outs so I decide to add a leash plug.

I didn’t want to sand too much of the leash plug down so I kept it clamped.

The Proven in the Northeast film festival is coming soon! November 7th at 6pm to be exact. This year they are at Rye Airfield, one of the most ridiculous skateparks ever. I don’t have anything in the festival, nor will I be attending, but I would if I could and I thought it deserved a mention here.
There will be lots of raffles, art and ten of the best surf/skate/snow videos from the Northeast. $8 pays your entry to the films, or throw down $20 and you get the skate the after hours session. So dope.

Since it’s been about a week since the fin repair sesh, I think I’ll take my good old Stub to Cornish waters this weekend.

The “Cross Processing” can take a break.

On Friday, I headed down to the Ocean Beach Pier in San Diego to take a few pictures of the large waves. It was high tide when I got there and waves were hitting the bottom of the pier. I shot from the pier for a few minutes before the lifeguards chased everyone off and closed it down.

A few months ago I bought a surfboard off Craigslist for $40. Great freakin’ deal, I figured. The guy said there were three other people looking at it, but wanted to give me first dibs since I’d first contacted him. Cool, I thought. If I hate it there’s three other guys who will want to buy it, so I’ll be able to get my money back in no time.

When I met the guy he had his two kids and his wife in the Jeep with him. I, for some reason, just couldn’t say no with them all sitting there, so I handed him the money and wished them all a wonderful weekend.

We took it out once and that was enough. It wasn’t that bad. It’s just way too small for me and neither of us are good enough to ride it. (Yet. We’ll get awesome next summer.) It’s been back on craigslist for around a month or two now. I’ve had about ten people contact me. Some talked about meeting up to buy it but never told me when and where. Others kept asking about it but then just quit replying.

The best are those who asked for a picture, got one, then never wrote back. I mean that….that really is funny.

It’s not an awful board. It’s not the best in the world, but for $40 you’d think someone would take it. But, lesson learned. Be willing to say no to strangers.
