I surrender all!

Okay, I need to hear from Jesus….today!  I know how to talk to Him I do it all the time.  I think sometimes to much.  However, I like talking to Jesus.  The only thing I don’t like is not hearing anything back from Him.  I read the Bible and meditate and try to listen to that small silent voice and I still cannot seem to hear Him.  Funny because, there are some many sisters in church that say “The Lord said…”  yet I can’t hear anything.  Is it because I am not in tuned?  So then, how do I get tuned in? 

I know what you are going to say, read the Bible, Praise the Lord, Be encouraged.  Believe me, I am, if I weren’t I wouldn’t be here today.  I stay faithful and tell the devil off every chance I get.  Okay, I might go to a couple of his pity parties but I don’t go to all of them.  I just need God’s favor.  I need Him to come through so bad, more than ever.  Does anyone know what I am saying?

The author of this book, Surrender All: Your Answer to Living with Peace, Power, and Purpose, is Joni Lamb, the executive producer and host of the daily JONI show, on Daystar Television which she and her husband founded and are president and CEO of.  I was not familiar with Joni before reading her book which  is one of personal reflections of surrender and of others stories of surrender.  The areas of surrender she covers are marriage, children, career, friendships, health, daily life, loss, failure, and the ultimate surrender that saves souls.

Her thoughts on surrendering children:

“The best way to surrender your children to God is to live a life before them that will cause them to put their trust in God.  A life surrendered to God and modeled before our children will have an impact on our children’s children and, ultimately, affect eternity.“

And on a friendships . . .

“You may be reading this and thinking of a particular friendship that is toxic and should be brought to an end.  I want to encourage you to surrender this relationship to the Lord and ask Him to reveal teh truth to you so you can make a wise decision.  you may notlike what the Lord shows you – whether to drop the relationship or to keep it – but I guarantee you that His plan is good. He may be guiding you to a more meaningful and healthier relationship, or He may be guiding you to a new level in the current relationship.“

When sharing on surrendering a career, Joni writes about Francine Rivers, a well-known Christian author.   However before she was a Christian and a Christian author she wrote some pretty steamy romance novels.  Once she surrendered to God, she went through a three year writers block, realizing her writing had become an idol for her.  When she began writing to glorify Jesus, the words flowed easily with inspiration from the Lord.  It’s an amazing story to see what God did through Francine.

Overall I really liked this book and give it a 4 out of 5.  There were some foggy points on homosexuality, divorce and women’s careers.  I also feel she lost some opportunities from chapter to chapter sharing Scripture with the different points of surrender.  However, her last chapter of the “ultimate surrender” gave the clear road to Jesus and that is it not too late for anyone to surrender to God because of sins or mistakes.

“Exciting times lie ahead for all willing to surrender.  Life will not be perfect, nor will it be painless. But there is no greater life than the one that follows the path God sets before it.“

Surrender All: Your Answer to Living with Peace, Power, and Purpose would be ideal for a person who is going through a difficult time, searching for God and/or questioning God.

As members Of Gods family we have the privilege and responsibility to pray for one another during sickness. Some recent research finds that patients who are prayed for fare much better than those not prayed for. James 5:15 And the prayer of faith will cure the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up. And if he has committed sins, it will be forgiven him… Yet we know God does not heal every person we pray for, at least not here on earth. When we pray in faith, we believe God can do anything we ask. But the prayer of faith does not stop there; it also involves surrender. We must move past twisting Gods arm to trusting Him to do whatever will bring Him the most glory. At times God may give us the assurance He plans to heal as we desire.. When He does not give this assurance, His Spirit will intercede for us according to the will of God. [Romans 8:27]

This song is my current “favorite” praise song because it so clearly shows a deep longing for Christ to be the ultimate priority in life. It is a great reminder that all the things that we acquire or accomplish here in life count for nothing after we pass. So basically it won’t matter if I have all these worldly possessions or money…. because we can’t take anything into heaven (1John 2:17). It also reminds me that in the midst of all the distractions of life and college dorm life, to keep my sole focus in pleasing and living for the glory of God. These are really high callings, but something that as Christians we are called to do. Lastly, the beautiful words really paint a desire to flee from all the temptations that lurk in our lives everyday. To rid our minds of ungodly thoughts, to keep everything was say, do, and think pure and blameless (Philippians 4:8)
