Right! Now I’m ready! There’s nothing like a bit of premature publishing to set pulses racing… :-S

I’m amongst a tribe of Women currently reading the Adult Romance Fifty Shades Filth Trilogy and I’m actually quite enjoying it, in a weird escape-from-the norm, read-something-a-bit-naughty, kind of way.

It was only because my own Mother asked if I’d read it yet and then said she fancied reading it, that I thought I’d have a dabble… I’ve finished the first book Fifty Shades of Grey and started the second Fifty Shades Darker in quick-succession.

It now amuses me to see women with raised eyebrows and startled, yet lustful, expressions on train station platforms across Britain. There was this one women last week at Nottingham, who couldn’t seem to get the book close enough to her face! It was like she could literally smell Christian Grey… (I bet he would smell pretty good though..) Anyway, it’s kind of like being part of some elitist trashy novel club. I’m actually reading it on my iPhone 4 using the iBook app… trying to be slightly more clandestine in my foray into the world of Christian Grey and also so that I can use the inbuilt dictionary app, every 4 pages or so, to find out what words I’ve-never-heard-in-my-life-used-by-a-normal-person mean.

I’m not thick… I promise. I just think the writer E. L. James appears to have swallowed a Thesaurus and gets as much of a kick writing about BDSM relationships as she does throwing her weight around with big words… Just saying.

I like words too. I think this book is proving rather educational…

So, with that in mind, I decided it was time to try out my new Henry Holland Fishnet True Suspender Tights, £15.49 from Tights Please with Free UK Delivery... They are pretty naughty.

I saw fellow blogger Lua P. rocking hers in a pair of denim cut-off shorts and thought she looked pretty hot.

I decided to wear mine with my new Topshop Khaki coloured Casual Military Shirt, £36, (a recent purchase that is sure to take me nicely from Summer into Autumn) an oversized Primark black racerback vest, my mum’s DKNY acid wash bleached denim cut-offs and my Topshop Vectra Black Studded Pumps, £28.

I wore my new Pearl and Spike Topshop Necklace, £15 – see similar items here. I couldn’t find the exact one on the Topshop website, but they do have some pretty similar cheaper versions… I also chose the cross earrings and the silver spiked stud, from the assorted pack, £6 to adorn my lobes, and had a bit of an ‘arm-party’ with a mixture of gold and black bangles.

Then… 

I remembered I was going for dinner at a friends house and that these tights were not suitable dinner attire. I changed into some grey and pink H &M Floral Printed Leggings, which actually went rather nicely with the shirt.

It’s been a joy watching Gossard over the last few seasons, eagerly awaiting their newest designs, never once feeling disappointed and always being left needing everything they have to offer. Their newest collection, On the prowl, is beautifully sexy, without being tacky, and perfectly feminine whilst staying a little bit naughty too. The animal print is a new take on the expected leopard that is so often used, and the colour palette is striking but also delicate, and it’s these considerations that have made this set such a success for me.

The bra is a great fit, giving a lovely shape and lifting the bust, whilst the brazilian is cheeky and flirty. I haven’t yet tried the slip, however I did also purchase the high waisted knicker, and although I was a little dubious and worried it might look a little.. Bridget Jones, it’s actually incredibly chic and beautifully flattering, I’m defiantly converted to bigger knickers!

I strongly recommend going over to the Gossard website and taking a look at what they have to offer, because if this set isn’t your thing, I’m sure you’ll find something there that catches your eye.

Their other newer collection, Floral explosion, is the next set on my wish list that come pay day, I’ll most defiantly be purchasing, and I’ll put up another blog post when I do so x

“1. Supplies: 3 yards of elastic (ours was 1 inch wide), suspender clips, sewing machine. 2. Once you’ve made the correct measurements, simply attach the clips by putting the elastic through the hook so that the front of the clip isn’t on the same side as the end of elastic. Sew a straight line across the layers of elastic to secure the hook. Once you have clips on all four ends, you’re ready to to sew them together! 3. Layer them in an X form with back ends having about 5 inches of elastic. You’ll want the X to be longer in height than in width so that the suspenders aren’t too wide. Think of it as it could fit into the corners of a rectangle verses a square. Once it’s layered correctly, sew it together by topstitching a diamond shape through both layers.“

Gloriously entitled ‘Taste & Fashion’ by the indomitable James Laver it is a splendidly out of date read, & gives a massive insight into how it used to be ‘done’! With chapters such as ‘The Theory of Decolletage’ & ‘The Two Bustles & the Aesthetic Movement’ how could I not squeal in delight & proceed with ill disguised glee to the till?

I am sure that now I have made my re-acquaintance with this priceless find I shall be quoting all over the place however; here is one to keep you going. From the ‘Lingerie’ chapter comes a glimpse of thigh. . .

Steamy stuff, eh? A corker of a find, & actually very useful too, I recommend it if you need to know anything at all about the history of fashion or costume as it is very readable, with lovely illustrations throughout.

Snappy Dressers Wear Suspenders

Suspenders used to be thought of as an undergarment and so they were covered with vest. However, as vest went away then so did suspenders. However, now they are not undergarments and in many cases are the proper way to finish certain pants. If your pants have the little flap with a button hole that you button across the centerline then suspenders are the proper way to finish those pants. Also, for those of us carrying around more weight then we need, suspenders are far more comfortable than belts.

These Geoffrey Beene suspenders are very well constructed and look very nice. I’ve got some expensive suits and some cheap suits. These suspenders go with all of them and make them look nice. I also use suspenders with sports coats and slacks.

Some people may comment on your “grandpa” look. However, if you are a sharp dresser then suspenders are another accessory in addition to the tie to make you look good. I will admit I get a lot of comments about stock broker, or questions about why I wear suspenders but people also often compliment me and label me a sharp dresser. It’s a great opportunity to strike up a conversation and get to know someone also.

I got the Khaki and grey version of this and am using it on a a light brown suit. These suspenders come with buttons and metal clasps.

First thing to do on these suspenders is get rid of the metal clips. If you use metal clips, a clip on tie, and a short sleeve shirt than this is not the set of suspenders for you. Dickie suspenders are cheaper and much more up your ally. If you want to learn to dress better, then these will be a good start. Get a pair with black ends and a pair with brown ends. Get some solid long sleeve shirts, grey, white, egg shell, black, blue etc. Use your black end suspenders with black shoes, black, grey, or blue suit and a tie in the red, black, grey, blue realm. Use your brown end suspenders with brown shoes, brown suit, brown pants, and a tie in the green, brown, peach, yellow family. This is very basic list and there are all sorts of exceptions but it is a great place to start. With solid shirts it is very hard to go wrong.

Second thing is to have the buttons sewn into your pants. The difference between metal clips and button suspenders is like the difference between a clip on tie and a real tie. It’s not that expensive either. If you have several sets of suspenders then you can just leave them on your pants.

More comfortable than a belt. Especially for those of us carrying around more weight than we need.

Takes more time to put on than a belt.
If you only have one set you will have to get more buttons to have them sewn in.
One or two belts does it all. You will probably want multiple sets of suspenders which can get rather expensive.

These were a gift for someone with no hips, and they are terrific. I sewed the (included) buttons into a pair of pants and removed the brass clips so just the leather braces were used. He found them comfortable and useful.

Chic suspenders

These “hold-up” suspenders work better than any other brand of suspenders I have tried. I have been wearing suspenders for more than 30 years and these are by far the best you can buy. They stay attached when others would come loose because of their special design. You won’t regret buying these suspenders.

So, I bought these for my boyfriend for a date party my sorority was having! They did the job until we got a little crazy and one of the latches broke off. They’re super skinny and probably shouldn’t be used for actually holding up pants but if you’re needing some for a costume or something, I would recommend them!

Also, the day single people drown their sorrows in wine and grimaces. Obviously, this year I’m single. I spent the day blogging and doing some work from home, breaking in my new TopShop tights in an “all dressed up but nowhere to go” type situation. And then made my brother take photos when he got home from school.
