Actually, I don’t know if I’ll be happy or not with this news. What will be the story of this new cg? The rebirth/resurrection of Lelouch? ^^” Or will it be the point of view of Nunnaly or Suzaku? Will it answer the mysteries about geass and the organization behind it?

Given that I am of the opinion that one should not criticize until one actually experiences what they are criticizing, I decided to actually finish Code Geass.  I got…I think ten episodes in before giving up the last time.  It was just so badly animated, the characters were so annoying and the premise was so full of itself it was as though it got high off the smell of its own gas.  I can dig a deep story with compelling narrative about racism, but not when that story is straddling me and punching me in the face.  Code Geass did just that.  I could hardly stand it as it was and then the plot kept going snooker-loopy and giving me the finger.

Well, no longer.   I will finish this god damned beast if it’s the last thing I do.

I am going to blog (and laugh) at Code Geass.  The way this will work is:

-          each episode will = one blog post

-          I will begin with a summary of the episode

-          I will discuss the highlights

-          I will summarize my current thoughts at the bottom

I am watching the English dub because the download was faster and smaller.  I honestly don’t care to see CG’s slipshod animation in HD.

In case you’re a fan and wondering why I’m wasting my time…I’m not.  I actually don’t hate Code Geass.  It’s stupid, but it makes me laugh.  Honestly, I’m having a lot of fun watching the show.  For the wrong reasons, yes, but still having fun, none the less.  Also, I have this weird reverse-schadenfreude where I derive enjoyment by experiencing pain.  I should probably seek medical attention…

Anyway!  Let’s begin

Episode 1 - The Day the Devil was Born

In this episode we get a 30 second history lesson about how Japan is now occupied by Britannia and is called area 11.  Lelouch exclaims to his best friend, Suzaku that he will DESTROY BRITANNIA!!!!!

Man, this sucks...

I WILL DESTROY BRITANNIA! REDRUM REDRUM!

Fast forward to some old guy getting his ass kicked by a chess metaphor.

Having a chess metaphor makes up deep!

In walks our resident hero and Mary Sue character who then defeats the noble despite impossible odds.

Not a Mary-Sue, guys. I swear to freaking God!

He then shows off for a few minutes.

Because this would totally be convenient for reading.

Meanwhile, the Britannian’s are launching an all out assault to stop two terrorists who have hijacked some secret weapon!  Also, they fail to comply to standard battle suit dress code.

C’mon guys. It’s the New Millennium and this isn’t a throw-back to old mecha. Drop the stupid costumes already.

The terrorist crash and Lelouch decides to help out.  He gets caught up in the plot by conveniently falling into the open truck top, despite that being rather stupid as it shows they are smuggling a weapon AND WOULDN’T THAT GET SPOTTED FROM THE AIR?  Oh, wow.  I think I just found my first plot hole!

Anyway, they get into a mecha battle, and I wake up for five minutes to pay attention.

As far as battles go, this was on the ‘meh’ scale.

The vehicle stops and is discovered by a deployed Britannian soldier (The soldiers were originally 11s).  He spots Lelouch and spin-kicks the crap out of him, leading to a very homosexual fight of lanky arms and legs until the soldier decides that kicking the crap out of your best friend isn’t nice.

Whoops! Sorry, dude.

Enter Suzaku.

The weapon opens to reveal a girl because that’s NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE.  Suzaku is shot for not wanting to kill a civilian, the car blows up at the right time and Lelouch gets away with the green haired chick.  The prince decides to blow up the area where the 11s live and a montage of death plays.  Lelouch is cornered and is given the power to control shit with his mind by the girl.  He tells the soldiers to kill themselves.

I like, command you, uhm to like, kill yourselves..?

Then realizes that’s bad.

...whoops...

Then realizes that’s badass.

There are no words to express how this terrifies me.

Overall, it was an okay starter episode as far as standard anime goes.  I still don’t get what’s so great about it though.  So far, the only thing sticking in my mind is how gay everything is:

Hell, even the mecha fights are on the gay side.  Oh, and aside from the mass suicide, that was the highlight of this episode.

The eps on crunchyroll – if your computer crashed and lost the files etc.

If you do have the eps and you are really obsessed with this show (and sometimes heraing it makes it easier to learn it or whatever) then you can do the efficient listening.  if you have just the avi then you can probably find subtitles even if they’re in spanish or whtaever.  if you have mkv then you have to convert and stuff  with the sub2srs program but still it’s not that hard or anything unless your computer is mad slow from being infected with annoying as hell spam/trojans/etc. mine was. I had to re-name the mbam.exe (malwarebytes) to nananoamekrowmrkow.exe etc to make it work godamnit.

FOR THE PEOPLE WHO ARE LIKE OMG I only know hirgana/basic greetings/basic but I loves CG & Lelouch so kawaiis / i want to watch anime without subs ASAP etc. 一言を言うとふざけんな

Chinese indie that reminds me of korean indie! lolz. But honestly I love this band　judging from this song. I just can’t seem to download anything of theirs!! Like I found links but they don’t work. MF links on some chinese board. MF links worked!… mf is just glitchy sometimes…. (oh HOLD UP… the quality is like MAD LOW like one of them is 96 kbps!!! but there is this song called your coat that  i RELALY LIKE on that album with the 96 kbps omgs if anyone knows higher quality DL links, tell me!!!!!!!!!!!!) chinese people are awesome with the download links on those boards. It’s not the CHINESE LANGAGE THING but honestly a lot of these chinese artistshave  bad voices or just voices I find irritating but I did find a few I REALLY LIKE like Vitas LU & hers etc. I will continue on my conquest to find some good chinese indie or rock or folk or jazz etc. I am planning to learn mandarin… right now I’m just listening to it as much as possible till I can hear every syllable or something…. no… till I can differentitate cantonese and mandarin. like listen to something and know it is or it is NOT cantonese/mandarin cause I have no IDEA right now. ahhhh… there’s actually a song in Japanese (I think it’s part japanaese/chinese for that song ) on their album and it sounds… good. A little bit more about Meron Pan. I don’t think I mentioned this before…Meron Pan is the typical Shonen character in a sort of  ’shojo’ situation. Therfore, he comes with a little extra. As some of you Otaku know, the typical schoolgirl type has the sound effects ‘EHHHHH?’ and ‘WAIII!’ And things like that. What I love about these is-Meron says them backwards. (Not literally) He often says ‘wai’ when upset, but ‘ehhhh’ when amused about something. It makes things a little more nonsensical.

Chocolate….there’s not much you can say about Chocolate..that he isn’t willing to say himself.

Chocolate: I’m going to open a restaurant called I-HOW! And everything in there is going to be waffles!

Mint….Mint is a strange child.

Peppermint….if you think about it, these two shouldn’t be to different people. they’re both mint. Then again, they’re based on different foods that use mints. There’ll probaly be more character slike that in the future..like

Remon Pan (Lemon) The talk show chef. He’s angsty and mean, and Meron’s total opposite. Based on the Lemon pastry puff found in chinatown. Even though he’s Meron’s twin they don’t see each other often, especially since Meron’s been kicked out of the family. And no, he wasn’t around to witness that….Seiyuu? The same as Meron, Rie Kugimiya…(Nagi, Hayate no Gotoku! Shana, Shakugan no shana, Alphonse, FMA , Miharu, Nabari no Ou)

Oh..fun fact. In both english and japanese, Yuuri Shibuya(Kyo Kara Maou) and Suzaku Kururugi (Code Geass) are played by the same person. In japanese, they”re both Takahiro Sakurai (The seiyuu pick for chocolate/Mint) In english they’re voiced by Yuri Lowenthal, my favorite voice actor ever! Except, I hear his voice everywhere. Seriously. He’s Ben 10 for crying out loud. And SASUKE(Naruto). Sometimes, I’ll buy a video game and Bam! I’ll hear his voice and nearly drop the controller.Quit stalking me Yuri! It’s okay, I know I’ll hear your voice somewhere else later…

This has been an epic month and a half in nerdery.  Let me see if I can cover the main points.  I am on the last case of Apollo Justice and I’m still on the Floating Continent in FF6…mostly because it fills me with unbridled rage and I don’t have enough health potions to move on and I don’t want to have to do it all again by going on the airship and then coming back later.  It’s a bit of a quandary.  Other than that, work stuff has kept me busy lately, Conor and I are PAing for a certain reality TV show that involves singing other people’s songs.  In addition, Buffy is finally no longer on hiatus, I just read the most recent Tales of the Vampires one-off written by Becky Cloonan, Fabio Moon, Gabriel Ba, and Vasilis Lolos and a 5 issue arc by Jane Espenson is supposed to be coming out soon I believe.

In addition, our merry band of miscreants has been watching an anime series called “Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion“.  It’s 50ish episodes total divided into 2 seasons and COMPLETELY worth your time.  I just finished it last night and I feel great about how it ended.  The characters are interesting and consistent, the artwork is decent and though CLAMP did the original character designs they aren’t horrible, and finally and most importantly the writing is really intriguing and subtle.  At times it can be extremely over the top, but I found that my feelings regarding many of the main characters vacillated between extreme hatred and overwhelming sympathy.

I recently started playing through Mass Effect, and it’s still too early for me to make a statement on how I feel about the game, but I must admit that the character models are GREAT and I enjoy the conversation tree system a lot.  The gameplay is taking a lot of getting used to, I’m not very apt at squad based combat but I’m sure I’ll figure it out.  I tend to be a lone, stealthy person and right now Shepherd is bumbling about.

That’s enough rambling, expect something more coherent soon.  Also, I would be remiss not to recommend Endless Frontier: Super Robot Taisen OG Saga for the DS.  Conor, Terry, and the rest of our merry band have been playing the hell out of it.  Personally, I want to pick up Broken Sword but right now I’m reading a book by Herman Hesse named Narziss and Goldmund and before that I reread Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison and East of Eden by John Steinbeck.

Hi people! ^^

Gostaria primeiramente de falar que eu devo ter uma boca maldita (ou pelo menos dedos malditos, pois eu digitei né), pois no último post eu citei coisas que acontecem pra impedir as postagens…e não é que aconteceu algo mesmo! O modem que envia sinal de internet pra minha casa queimou e eu fiquei praticamente um mês sem net xD

Além de tudo, como estou planejando me mudar no início do ano que vêm, estou vendendo meu Xbox 360 (travado, placa falcon e com praticamente 1 ano e meio de garantia ainda), 4 jogos originais (Mass Effect, Naruto – Rise of a Ninja, Gears of War 2 e Ninety Nine Nights, todos pouco usados…foram comprados final do ano passado) e 3 Acessórios (Cabo VGA MS, Kit Play & Charge MS e Cabo HDMI normal) para poder ajudar nas compras do que for preciso. Mas bem, a parte boa é que deu tempo para começar e terminar de ver a sequência do anime citado no último post e que é o tema deste: Code Geass R2: Lelouch Of The Rebellion.

Code Geass R2 - Personagens principais e novatos

Como eu já citei toda a informação técnica a respeito do seu sucessor, e até mesmo um breve comentário sobre este também, vou me ater somente a relembrar que ele possui 25 episódios.
Comentário a parte, é perceptível que parece ser a continuação da história para completar os eventos que acontecem no primeiro mangá (onde a Lelouch é o foco), mas como eu não tive a chance de ler o mesmo, fica só a minha opnião.

A história é uma sequência direta dos fatos ocorridos em Code Geass, continuando do ápice da disputa do último episódio.
Eu achei muito boa essa continuação, não somente por ela revelar fatos que ficaram obscuros no anime anterior, mas também porque a escala da guerra cresce realmente para um nível mundial dando ênfase para a Federação Chinesa (que não teve quase atenção alguma anteriormente)…mas talvez peque por dar atenção grandiosa somente a ela também.

A guerra de raciocínio continua muito bem empregada, acrescida de vários outros fatores complicadores  devidos a fotos ocorridos no primeiro volume (e que  logicamente não posso contar né xP), mas achei bem interessante.

Nesse episódio, que dá um fim a série (ou pelo menos aos fatos que se passam no primeiro mangá), são mostrados outros pessoas que possuem o Geass e novos efeitos do mesmo.
Outra coisa muito interessante, para quem se amarrava nos Knightmare Frames mas ficava triste por haverem somente os modelos normais e alguns poucos modelos “diferentes” dos outros, foi o acréscimo de vários modelos novos; tanto os modelos únicos como “novos” modelos normais do tipo “Standart” ou “Default”.

Code Geass R2 - Britannia x Japão

As reviravoltas no enredo foram muito bem estruturadas, e as duas últimas foram excelentes e pouca gente deve conseguir raciocinar o que vai acontecer, porque realmente é repentino e inesperado.  Isso com certeza garantiu mais pontos ao envolvimento que a série gera com quem está assistindo.

Algo que não comentei no útlimo post foi que, quem desenvolveu o “design” dos personagens foram as meninas da Clamp (sim…por isso fica parecendo que você já viu esse estilo em algum lugar). Tem gente que não gosta desse traço, mas uma coisa é certa: eu acho interessante a criatividade da Clamp na hora de criar personagens, roupas e cenários, pois estes acabam ficando ricos em referências a outras culturas e informações interessantes.
Pra quem nunca parou pra prestar atenção, elas costumam fazer muitas referências a coisas e personagens conhecidos, seja de outras culturas ou da mitologia em geral.
Tanto em Code Geass, quanto Code Geass R2, existem várias referências (Lancelot, Valquírias,  Knights Of Round, Espada de Akasha, etc) que são um bom exemplo, mas não quer dizer que foram elas e não o escritor quem sugeriu isso…pra ter certeza, só conversando com um dos dois.

O final talvez não tenha sido o mais apropriado, mas caiu bem (diferente de um certo anime que ainda irei comentar aqui futuramente, que o autor conseguiu estragar todo o conceito da história em menos de 3 capítulos ¬¬) e não deixou nada a desejar.

Pra quem assistiu o primeiro Code Geass e gostou, Code Geass R2 é obrigatório para que você possa tirar suas dúvidas e descobrir como tudo acaba. Mesmo para quem assistiu o primeiro e não gostou muito, eu aconselho ver o segundo, já que é bem mais emocionante e fluente em artifícios novos para manter a sua atenção e interesse.

Code Geass R2 - Boneco do Lelouch - Não seria legal ter um desses?

The season two started a year after the “death” of Zero thus Lelouch returns to his normal highschool life. after his meeting with C.C again, he remembered his identity as Zero and what happened after the last episode of season one making Lelouch more revengeful than before.

I never thought that this season of Code Geass would be more intersting than its first season. Though I’m not a fan of CLAMP’s works, I love this series, plot-wise and art-wise.

Compared to its first season, R2 has a lot of twists and turns that will eventually keep you at the edge of your seats. it has beome darker and more dramatic as the characters verged more of their serious side. The characters maturity adds to the mind-boggling plot of the story.

Speaking of characters, some of the come-backing characters have their vengeful plots. Addition to that is the appearance of new characters which will surely make the story more interesting and may help in the unfolding of mysteries and questions previously arise from the season one.

The opening songs, O2 by Orange Range and World End by Colours are all good. While the ending song Shiawase Neiro is a bit sad (but still good) and the ending video looks based from manga.

All in all, if you’re really a hardcore fan of Code Geass then you’ll surely love this one. This is an action packed anime plus the mecha genre along with it.

By now, you should (hopefully know) that I am a Kallen fanatic. I love her. Yup. She’s just plain awesome. That being said, we haven’t had many good Kallen figures in the past. How does this figure measure up to all the others?

First off, as can be seen from the title pic and the picture above, the box is pretty standard. All the details of the figure and the accessories are clearly represented on the box. No problems there.

OMG. This figure is AWESOME. No matter how you look at it, she just blows every other Kallen and Geass related figure out of the water. Wow. Amazing!

Before I start to sound incoherent, let’s go through the basics. Kallen here is depicted in the appealing bunny suit she sported in the first episode of Code Geass R2. If you can’t remember here’s a screencap:

- Accessories

The only accessory that this wonderful figure comes with is her bunny ears. This particular accessory has been the subject of previous post, but that’s another story altogether.

They say quality is better than quantity. In certain cases, I couldn’t agree more. This is certainly one of those cases. Not only is this accessory the perfect compliment for this figure, it is made in a way that you can display Kallen with or without the bunny ears. There are no pegs or holes anywhere to be seen on the figure and this adds to the overall image.

To attach the bunny ears, simply clip them on her head. Simple and effective. Yes.

- Base

I could make a joke about 'All your base are belong to us'. But I'm not.

The base itself is slightly disappointing as it is not as sturdy as I thought it would be. Nice big Black Knight symbol sculpted on it. Some may not like the fact that figures don’t peg into the base. However, in this case, this is a good thing. I wouldn’t want my Kallen figure to sport two holes in her knees.

- The Figure

What can I say about the figure that I haven’t said before? There are only so many synonyms for the word ‘awesome’. But I guess, in a nutshell,

- The figure is exceedingly show accurate
- Wonderful pose that is dynamic and yet refreshing
- Great use of accessories
- Wonderful sculpting and paintjob

But why am I still typing??? Let’s have some more pictures, shall we?

Before ending this review, it seems I forgot to mention something… What could it be?

Ah yes!!! How could it have slipped my mind??? The DETAILS!!! I mean, the details of this figure are outstanding. Look, they remembered to feature the Guren’s key in such great accuracy.

They even got the colors represented correctly! Gold for the cap and red for the main body. Marvelous.

So, in conclusion, just do yourself a favor and get this figure. It blows every other Kallen figure (and any other Geass related figure for that matter) out of the water.
