Suzie...and the great day....

Absolutely hit it out of the park with Suzie McNeil today…

We finished writing ‘What I’m Looking For‘ (JC/Suzie McNeil) — then I recorded Suzie singing a demo lead vocal that would send chills (the good kind!) down anybody’s spine. 

This is what we live for.

Suzie McNeil @ Jambotunes Sept. 9/09

Seems I’m not the only one who is asking the big questions these days…

Wrote with Suzie McNeil here @ Jambotunes today.  And, like a lot of other sessions I’ve been involved in…we started the day with a lot of conversation.

Sometimes I marvel at, and I’m always respectful of – how open and honest writers/artists can be with each other during these ‘pre-session’ discussions. You know, discussions about all the important stuff: victories, defeats, dreams, hits, misses, loved ones, not-so-loved ones, hurt, happiness and usually, a touch of heartache thrown in for good measure…– the same list we all have.  And, it should come as no great surprise that most times these discussions serve to set the palette for whatever song we end up writing.

As for Suzie and I today — we started a song that is (tentatively) titled ‘What I’m Looking For” — and I think that sentiment pretty much says it as well as anything could right now.  

Suzie is coming back on Tuesday and we’re gonna finish this one up. 

Looking forward to it.

Suzie Rock-n-Roller

Excited to have Suzie McNeil coming to the studio for 2 days in September.  

I think we’re gonna be writing some wicked songs together…hmmm…either that… or …we’re gonna be having an uber cool early-70’s themed cocktail party?

Not sure which, (both?!) … hey, it’s all win-win…you know?  Just like the cool kids say:  ”That sounds like a real ‘Double Yahtzee’, mister!”

Anyway…I digress, I suppose…hmmm…too much?  I dunno…

Regardless, I’m pretty sure there’s no real need for me to spout off about how incredibly talented and accomplished Suzie is – the word is already way out there on that one – (check out Suzie’s killer album ‘Rock-n-Roller‘ if you haven’t already).  Oh ya, and, from what I can tell, Suzie also seems like a pretty cool person too.  So, ya, that’s also a good thing.

Our secret writing power will be:  the Rock Gods love those who truly love ‘the rock and roll‘.  Oh, ya…and the Rock Gods also love ‘hits’ too.  (It’s true.  I looked it up.)

Wrote with Lindsay Ell today – outcome = finished a very cool new song called ‘1399 Miles To Chicago‘ (JC/Lindsay Ell). 

Saw an awesome duo (w/ an assortment of special guests) at The Supermarket venue on Monday night. Unfortunately, I didn’t catch their name, but, Ava will remind me.  That was the most fun I’ve had watching a live band in a long time — then again, I’m a sucker for Brazilian influenced pop.  

Planning to finish the instrumental of ‘Girls Like Shoes, Bags and Boys‘ (JC/Heather Longstaffe) by tomorrow for Heather Longstaffe’s CCMA showcase rehearsals.

Hey, so… my publisher says maybe some writing dates with Suzie McNeil next month.  That – would be PERFECT.

Don’t ask why, but when I first heard the studio version of this song, I thought it was P!nk that was singing it. But actually, it’s Suzie McNeil.

The only reality series I watched was RockStar: INXS–I loved that show so much, and Suzie was one of our favorites!
