Swatch is a brand name for a line of wrist watches from the Swatch Group, a Swiss conglomerate with vertical control of the production of Swiss watches and related products. In 1982, Swatch was conceived and it was introduced to the market in Switzerland in March 1983.

This concept was realised in the early 1980s, under the leadership of the then ETA SA’s CEO, Ernst Thomke with a small team of enthusiastic watch engineers led by Elmar Mock and Jacques Müller, who had had the idea to use the case back as a movement main plate (platine), as it had been done to realise the flattest watch in the world, the Delirium, suppressing a lot of parts. And designed for easy assembling.

Swatch was originally intended to re-capture entry level market share lost by Swiss manufacturers during the aggressive growth of Japanese companies such as Seiko in the 1960s and 1970s, and to re-popularize analog watches at a time when digital watches had achieved wide popularity.

The combination of marketing and manufacturing expertise restored Switzerland as a major player in the world wristwatch market. Synthetic materials were used for the watchcases as well as a new ultra-sonic welding process and the assembly technology. The number of components was reduced from 91 or more to 51, with no loss of accuracy. Compared to conventional watches, a Swatch was 80% cheaper to produce by fully automating assembly.

In light of the economic state of the Swiss watch industry at the time of the introduction of the Swatch, its directors understood that it was not enough to offer a good watch. The watches needed to be attractive, cheeky and good fun, daring in design and aggressively priced, with high quality and innovative flair. The Swatch watches were high-tech and came in a variety of fashion and art design.

The first meaning of the name “Swatch” was “Second Watch” — because the new watch was introduced with a new concept of watches as casual, fun, and relatively disposable accessories. However Franz Sprecher conceived it as the contraction of Swiss (Made) Watch: “S’Watch”, soon became “Swatch” as it is today perceived worldwide.

There are five families under the Swatch brand: Originals, Irony, Skin, Beat, Bijoux.

I have 2 Swatch Irony pieces. The first one was bought in 2000 and it still rocks.

The second was acquired this September. Its complete name is Swatch Full Blooded and will always remember me of Washington.

Needless to say I am very content with my Swatches…

As you can see in the swatch pic, Dodo is more on the pinkish beige side than Apieu. Apieu still has a tinge of yellow, while Dodo doesn’t have any. Apieu Fresh is the same shade with Moist, if you’re wondering, they only differ on their finishes. Moist has glowy finish, while Fresh is more matte.

I blend a lil bit of them on my skin, right next to the cream dots. Blended, they’re not that different in shades. But I notice Apieu blends way better and easier than Dodo. Apieu doesn’t sink on my fine line, while Dodo does.

With those being said, I declare my love to Apieu again.

Looking similar to Chanel’s Ceramic watch, Swatch gives you the look, but for less, and looks fantastic against a tanned wrist (for those of us in the southern hemisphere!)

my NOTD – Misa’s Right Here Now, No More Later.
i wanted to take a break from all the autumn-y, vampy colours i’ve been wearing as of late.
i don’t really get the name, but it’s a very bright, crayola blue.
applies beautifully, but i don’t know if it’s just the way i applied it but.. it chipped within 2 days! i dont know. on me, it kind of reminded me of 크레파스 and that’s not a good thing.

Yesterday eclipsed my largest daily amount of progress on knitted projects. I don’t count my stitches or rows or number of do-overs / tinking. But, after seeing a Facebook status from a knitting/dying friend asking what everyone’s average stitch count per day is, I sat back and thought, “Hey! Yesterday I did more than ever before !” Timely.

Infinity Peacocks Moebius Wrap

On my own pattern in the Large size that I’ve planned to finish by Turkey day, I completed the 2nd of three sections. I’m on the home stretch. It’s over 500 stitches per row in a moebius loop (never ending!!). Per my previous post, you’ll note that the other yarn I’d been knitting was not magic, and was not inspiring, and was just NOT. Recently too, within the past two weeks, I helped another knitter friend destash (yes, I was enabled) so she could pay a kitteh vet bill. We’ve become very close online – some may feel that’s weird, but we chat quite a bit and yes, we’ve become good friends. One day, we WILL meet IRL (in real life).

I ‘rescued’ 1500 yards of Texas Toasty in Flan from her. Luscious and so soft. She even sent me cardigan patterns! I had searched too while waiting for USPS to deliver the goods and found a great Drops pattern that I’d decided I liked best, even after review of the freebies sent. I’ll reserve one of those – or two – for later.

When the yarny goodness arrived, I’d set it aside thinking it would one day be a great cardigan; much like many other stash items in my SABLE. That’s on the verge of three lifetimes at present.

I’d also wound two of the three skeins. Still swiftless, I just sit cross legged and hand wind. I love the feel and having the drape of the skein on my knees is just like a warm hug. The entire process is very cathartic.

Last night, while watching Sci-Fi channel (I’m a maven but cannot let my hands be idle), I knit away on my IPMW. Dinner break and kiddo pick-ups were minor but necessary interruptions but I got a rhythm. And it was good.

I got guage!

The Flan balls were in my line of sight, and I began to wonder if I should. . . . . I found the circular needles in the correct size, and knitted a guage swatch. I made guage the first try! I’m saving it for perpetuity . . . or at least until I need that bit for seaming. . . It may be close!  Not deterred by the 12 or so projects still on needles (yes, really), I pulled a new ball and started casting on the 264 stitches to start the ribbing. One d0-over later and the correct amount of yarn tail, I had success and began the K2P2 ribs.

Future Cardigan in Flan

I probably knit 5000 stitches in all yesterday, and not one was wasted or rushed or disliked. It was all about the great balancing act of remaining active and interested! I love this craft. ♥

Today however is a new day and many other things on my plate. Here’s hoping you get as  much or more done on your list so your knitting time gets into your schedule too!

This is a light violet color. It’s also a little bit holographic but in the picture it isn’t visible. It takes a long time to dry also because I put a lot since it’s almost transparent. I don’t remember the price but Deborah’s polishes are usually around 5/6 €.

This is my first swatch. I will not write a full review because my english isn’t so good and I don’t think I can express myself well enough.

I will post pictures. If you have suggestions to improve this section feel free to write me.

This is a brown color with some red glitter. It’s called “Melanzana Glitter”. In english “Glitter Egg-plant”. I don’t understand why it’s called like that, isn’t the egg-plant more violet? Well, it’s a really good polish, it last for a long time but it’s a bit expensive! (€ 11.90 if don’t remember wrong)

As fotos (essas e outras internet afora) não fazem jus ao esmalte: ele tem um brilho suave, tipo gloss – efeito gloss mesmo, e não aquele monte de glitter como na coleção da Impala – que simplesmente não aparece nas fotos! Fazer o q?

Além da cor linda, é um esmalte super fácil de passar e que promete o que cumpre: uma camada basta! Sem contar a durabilidade. Mas se você gostou é melhor correr atrás do seu logo: a coleção Única Camada é por tempo limitado!

China Glaze Wagon Trail from their Rodeo Diva collectionit’s a little bit darker in real life, and looks more.. onyx-y under indoor lighting.
it sort of reminds me of MAC Seriously Hip from their Style Black collection, but not so shimmery.. but at a third of the price, i think i’ll deal.
