Message from Leigh Hayler
==================================================
Finally got round to reviewing your book. Really enjoyed it and have recommended it to friends as a good summer holiday read. Great characters and description of them all – could really picture them. Only downside (and this isn\’t really bad) is that I felt hungry whilst reading – all that food. Therefore would suggest reading and eating a decent cupcake at the same time – just one though otherwise you\’ll need a good Zumba session to work it off!

Well I’ve done it! I handed in my book and marketing proposal to my local Waterstones. I’ve also filled in a form so that my book now appears on the waterstones online catalogue. This means that if a branch is interested in my book, they can order it directly from me enabling them to stock it!

I am also in the process of filling in an additional form to apply for the space in my local local waterstones to hold a book signing. It’s quite a hefty form and it asks me questions like, what will make your book signing different, what will you contribute to the store, how will you market your event?

My cousin Carly who is a marketing wiz, is going to over see what I’ve already written and spruce it up. well it needs to be perfect!

Ugh I’m excited but also nervous, if this falls through well it’s back to the drawing board.

I’m also re proof reading my first novel just incase it does hit the shops. I’ve been given a wonderful contact from a fellow author, who is going to go through my work with a fine tooth comb. He is ex grammar school and extremely thorough, I think he will do an excellent job! (bare in mind Sweet Jasmine, Cakes and Magic has already been proof read twice! )

I’m also running a Zumba hen do this weekend. I enjoyed it the last time I did it, so I hope it goes well. I’ve made up a couple of new routines too!

Dv8 magazine kindly asked if I would do a photo shoot for them along with an interview about my book Sweet Jasmine, Cakes and Magic.

“Of course,”I replied!
So yesterday I arrived at the office loaded down with some pretty dresses and the very friendly girls from the office suggested that I go for my black satin D&G dress.

It’s very slinky yet elegant, it’s the perfect cocktail dress, Adrianna Jasmine would be proud!
I teamed it up with nude peep toe Jessica Simpson heels.

“Right then,’ said Alice, “let’s go to Bournemouth gardens to meet Samantha our photographer!”

“Err,”I replied, “I have to walk from the top of Poole road to Bournemouth gardens dressed like this!”

“Yep come on,”she said.

Oh my I was very self conscious. You see Bournemouth is very casual, we go for the beach babe and surf dude look down here, but tend to dress up at night not during the day! However it did make me chuckle as yes a woman trussed up in a black slinky D&G number walking through Bournemouth town centre on a sunny afternoon, did cause a little stir. However to be fair I just kept my head down and focused on arriving at my destination.

We met Sam the photographer who was really cool and trendy and she planned where she wanted me to pose.

It was quite good fun and a few people ogled but most people went on with their business.

However one woman was a little mean about me, bare in mind I was nervous as it was, as she said, “ugh not really an appropriate place to have a picture taken!” she snapped.

Oh why oh why do people have to say it, or do it for that matter? I’m a young woman celebrating the fact that I have self published a book and was dressed in a lovely outfit on the grass by pretty flowers. It wasn’t like I was doing a topless photo shoot! Perhaps she should head down to the beach on a scorching summers’s day, she’d have a fit!

Anyway all in all it was a lovely experience and did me good. My confidence is low at the moment so putting on a little black number and strolling through town during the afternoon probably was a good thing to boost poor confidence. Mind you if it’d been in the city of London or Milan no one would have battered an eye lid.

Well let’s hope the pictures come out well and my book gains some publicity from it.

The article is out in the May issue.

Hurray I’ve booked my flights to Rome, although it was a bit touch and go at first as the flights were coming up as £350 and I’m only going for two nights! I couldn’t bring myself to justify the cost.

Anyway after searching properly last night I found some for £233. Still expensive but saved myself over hundred quid.

So I’m looking forward to it. I’m staying with my cousin’s wife Carly, as she is touring major European cities over April for her work and completing her work in Rome. She kindly asked if I would care to join her. Well I replied is the pope a catholic!

I’m staying at The Savoy with her on the Via Venito, which is a few doors down from where we stayed before, which was three years ago. We stayed at the Regina Baglioni and I’m sure we’ll re visit as it was a very special hotel. Plus I mention it in my book, Adrianna Jasmine stays there.

So two nights in my Italy my lovely, lovely Italy. We’re going to try and pack it all in as we don’t have long, but I think in typical Carly and Catherine style I’m sure we’ll have great fun!

On the final chapter of my book very excited, I may even finish it tomorrow!

If I do then I will go through it from top to toe which I’m looking forward to as I can’t remember a lot in regards to what I’ve actually written. That’s probably a good thing because it’ll be like reading a story that I’ve not read before so it will be exciting!

I will check for spelling errors, not that I’m a master of that, try to word sentences better if needs be and I know I have to add some elements to the chapter intros like recipes, quotes and merry quips!

Yes will look forward to it.

Ooh I hope your a vampire as well as witch fan!

I’m aiming for the book to be printed and bound for the summer which is when I hope to have my second launch.

Things I need to do!

Finish marketing proposal for Gardeners

Save proposal onto disk so a friend can print it off, my printer is incompatible with my lap top.

Send a copy of Sweet Jasmine to the new title show case.

Contact Wessex autistic society regarding the Christchurch food fair, as I wish to showcase my book!

Go through my second book.

Email it to proof reader Alice

Work on back cover

Order a new batch of first books

Keep positive and fill myself with new sourced energy!!!

Remember my book can be brought via my web site catherinesabatina.com and is available to download through kindle.

I am very excited to hear that children and adults alike have been enjoying reading my book since the launch last Saturday. One of my favourite pieces of feedback came from a lady who’s granddaughter has been snuggled up on the couch reading my story with her little book mark. Awwww (however please note my book is for adults and it’s best that a parent reads it first before giving it the green light! )

However I was informed that the little one is indeed dyslexic like me and as a result is enduring a hard time at school. Apparently children as they often are, are being somewhat cruel to her due to struggling with certain subjects. Of course this is extremely upsetting for the child and has left her feeling hurt and confused.

This is often the case for adults and children who struggle whilst learning certain subjects and leads to frustration and then onto to anger. None of those two feelings are healthy.

So I was asked for my opinion regarding the little girl. I informed her grandma that firstly her parents should contact the British Dyslexics Association to decipher what form of dyslexia the child has and where her strengths and challenges lie. Then to perhaps offer the little girl additional one to one support for example in Maths and English. This will allow the child to learn in a style that suits her and at her own pace. She may even
find it fun! Then to encourage her to develop all the skills that she is talented in. Apparently the child shows promise in regards to drawing, art and craft. Hmmm I see a future architect, or wildlife photographer in the midst!

I also offered to write to the little girl and explain that the way she is has nothing what so ever to do with being stupid and that dyslexics are some of the most creative, colourful and in some cases, the most brilliant minded people on the planet. Winston Churchill was one of us!!! I will also advise her to ignore the children who are taunting her because they simply do not understand our way of thinking.

So little one keep up with your drawing and stay calm and content in regards to who you are.

Oh my! after my wonderful weekend I feel extremely tired and all I want to do is curl up on the couch and sleep like a cat.

Alas I cannot, as I have plenty to do such as teaching my classes, contacting the London book fair as I’m going to exhibit my book there in April, talking to Waterstones and much more. Plus I’m on a Pilates workshop on Saturday. I need energy and I need it quick!

Still it’s best to be busy than not and I am grateful for all the work and pending opportunities life is offering me.

Anyhoo I’m going to have a nap as I have Abs and Back, Zumba and Body Balance to teach at tea time.
