The primary honoree of this edition will be the Russian filmmaker Andrei Tarkovski (1958-1986). In addition to displaying the entire work of the filmmaker, the exhibition features the works of other directors also inspired in the life and career of Tarkòvski. In parallel, the Museu de Arte de Sao Paulo (MASP) will house the exhibition “Luz Instantanea: Polaroids de Andrei Tarkovski”, with 80 photographs from the personal collection of the filmmaker.

70 Brazilian movies were selected for the exhibition this year. Among them, “O Som ao Redor”, by Kleber Mendonca Filho; “Boa Sorte, Meu Amor”, by Daniel Aragao; “Colegas”, by Marcelo Galvao (winner of the Film Festival from Gramado); and “Era uma Vez Eu, Veronica”, by Marcelo Gomes (winner of the Film Festival from Brasilia).

As usual, the event will also feature special sessions with the exhibition of classical movies. The selection includes “Jaws” (1975), by Steven Spielberg; “Lawrence of Arabia” (1962), by David Lean; and “Life and Death -Colonel Blimp” (1943), by Michael Powell. It will also be displayed a restored copy of the film “Nosferatu” (1922) by F.W, in an outdoor theater. Murnau. The exhibition will be accompanied by an orchestra with the conductor German Pierre Ose, in Ibirapuera Park.

The Exhibition was created by movie critic Leon Cakoff in 1977, by which time Brazil was suffering from the severe repression of the military dictatorship and many films did not reach the public because of censorship.
