This year’s contest was fun (and crazy at the same time) because it dealt with the theme of movies! I was impressed at the level of dedication member-collectors showed in coming up with their submitted entries. Some made me smile, others made me oohhh and ahhh, and still there were a few that made my eyes cloud with tears. All of them, in my opinion, were winners.

When it came to the winners, we had a hard time deciding which were the cream of the crop because honestly, they were all good! In the end, we whittled down the list to four- three local entries and one international entry. I had a few personal favorites and while some of them didn’t win (we were three judges so I only got 1/3 of the vote), I was glad for those that did.

Congratulations to all the winners of this year’s contest!

The third prize went to ”The Lion and the Lamb,” by Ms. Stephanie Sumbe. This was inspired by Edward and Bella’s wedding scene in ”Twilight: Breaking Dawn.” I’m not a big fan of the movie (or of the books) so I’ll take this anytime over Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. Honestly, this is loads better!

Second prize honors went to “The Blind Side,” by Ms. Christine Santelices, inspired by the movie of the same name. It’s a very sincere photograph that elicited a lot of warm smiles from the judges. During deliberations, one of the things they noticed about it was how heartwarming it really was.

And the first place honors went to ”Come What May” by Ms. Aileen Gayman, inspired by the elephant scene in “Moulin Rouge. Ms. Ails’ take on magical realism is breath taking, to say the least.

This year’s special prize for international entries went to Ms. Santie Meyer’s meticulous recreation of the iconic spaghetti love scene from “Lady and the Tramp.” This one has really got me lost for words. It is just… beautiful.

There were so many wonderful pictures to choose from, each with their own take and perspective on memorable scenes or quotes from their favorite movies. I only wish I had enough prizes to give to everyone because there were so many other good ones too.

Unfortunately, the Ironman Nendoroid (was due February) has been delayed to March, so I don’t have any pre-ordered Nendoroids to show you today. But, I did cave in and buy a bunch of miniatures and sets, which we’ll take a glimpse of right now!

First up, it’s Shiina Mayuri from Steins;Gate! I’ve finally got my hands on her to go with Kurisu.

And the other figures I got are these Ichiban Kuji Pokemon prize figures~! I only really wanted Pikachu for a custom project I did, but.. well, the picture speaks for itself.

Now, onto the miniatures!

First, here is a 1/12 scale model kit for capsule/gashapon machines. I also just realized how they will go really well with my newly aquired Mayuri Nendoroid~ I wonder how they’ll scale?

RE-MENT food miniatures are back!!
This is the Ekinaka Sweets set. As soon as I saw these, I just had to get them. They’re probably too big for Nendoroids, but we’ll have to see! Regardless, these desserts are super cute. I’m so glad RE-MENT is starting to produce these agains.

Another RE-MENT set! This one’s called Recipes for Happiness. More things to add to my kitchen, awesome! But not as awesome as cakes~

And finally, I also got two Sylvanian Families sets. On the left, we have the telephone set, and on the right, a bathroom set! These have already gone into the queue to be reviewed~

It was another sleepless night in our household, this time due to early morning awakening (how does 4am sound?). I don’t know what’s going on, but I need to find out why, and soon. I can’t stand any more sleepless nights, especially since I haven’t had enough sleep in the last three weeks or so. Blame my wisdom teeth and all the headaches they gave me- and good riddance to them!

This morning, Alphonse and I spent time watching videos of Disney and Pixar shorts. We had to wait till the sun came out to call on the nannies for help. Then it was their turn and I tried to get some energy back by eating breakfast. In the middle of my bowl of oatmeal, however, I fell fast asleep. I didn’t even notice it. When I woke up an hour later, my coffee had grown cold and my oatmeal was thick white sludge.

Alphonse is still up and running, even as I write this, and I still feel like a zombie. Another pick-me-up is needed, but what?

I got just the one! It’s a Sylvanian blog which I discovered in Facebook. It’s in Chinese, but for those of us who are clueless, there’s always Google Translate to add to the fun. Google Translate calls it “The Forest Family Lulu Cabin in the Forest” which, judging by how awkward it sounds, tells me right away that the translation isn’t quite spot on. Still, I invite you to visit the blog as the pictures are absolutely beautiful.

I like best the series of renovation posts. It is mindblowing how detailed and how creative the work was. Not only that, it really seemed as if the little Sylvanians were hard at work. Here are the series of links which I will try to present in an orderly fashion. You can do without Translate and just rely on the pictures to tell you the story. I assure you, this is absolutely worth your time to see.

This series is one of my favorites ever. When sleeplessness strikes again, I’ll be sure to pull them out from their bookmarks and look them over again. It’s a guaranteed perk-me-upper!

My two baby mice still have no name and I am not sure if I will call him somehow, but they did have time for playing with Hanako, Natsuki, Fuyumi and Luke =)

And talking a bit about everything, in the following days I would like to resume the sewing days and have some new outfits for the girls. Luke will have to wait because I don’t feel like making some trousers at the moment =P More dresses soon!
