Opera announced the latest beta version of Opera Mobile 10 Beta 2. There are many enhancements and new features in Opera Mobile 10 beta 2, both for Windows Mobile and Symbian S60, including: a more finger-friendly UI for touchscreen devices, download manager, Opera Link, better memory management, Column snapping also on touch, Fix for mobile view crash and so on.

There are also some issues since Opera Mobile is a beta version, such as no support for non-touch WM handsets, and no plug-in support (for both WM and S60). To download Opera Mobile 10 beta 2 for Windows Mobile or Symbian S60, visit Opera’s site.

There are some known issues for Symbian S60 include:

- Known exceptions: Thai, Hindi (no support for Thai, Hindi glyphs in UI elements regardless of build used)
- To view Asian languages Web pages you must download the “International version”. This includes extra fonts which take approx 3Mb space after installation. See this blog post for more information.
- Soft keyboard is shown even though hard keyboard is slid out and in use
- Canceling a connection request does not work (dialogue will pop up again indefinitely)
- Only phones with Asian language packs will show Asian characters in the user interface (bookmarks etc)
- No plug-in support (e.g. Flash)
- You must click connect twice to use Opera Dragonfly
- Only partial IME (Input Method Editor) support
- Crash if you use system edit (platform input method) instead of default on facebook.com (probably also other sites)

Opera Mobile beta 2 works on Nokia N series (Nokia 5730 XpressMusic, Nokia N73, Nokia N76, Nokia N77, N78, N79, N81, N82, N85, N86, N95 8GB, N96, N97, 5320, 5630, 5800, 6220c, 6720c) and Nokia E series (E51, E52, E55, E63, E66, E72, E71, E75) series phones, Samsung i7110, Samsung i550, Samsung Omnia HD, Samsung Innov8, and Sony Ericsson Satio. It is doesn’t support Symbian S60 first or second-generation devices (Nokia 6600, Nokia 3660, Nokia 3230, Nokia N70, Nokia N90, Nokia N-Gage, Nokia 7610). Source.

Please check your devices for 400.21.013 firmware and enjoy updating your phones! Remember, as usual the update may not be available for all product codes at once!

Today, Nokia has finally launched it’s first TD-SCDMA compliant handsets the Nokia 6788, which was built from the ground up for China Mobile.

Nokia (NYSE: NOK) today announced the Nokia 6788, its first device for TD-SCDMA – China’s domestic 3G standard, at an event in Beijing. The Nokia 6788 is the result of close collaboration between Nokia and the world’s largest mobile phone operator, China Mobile.

Speaking at the event, said Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, CEO of Nokia: “Nokia sees TD-SCDMA as being central to the successful evolution of 3G in China, and so is fully committed to this 3G standard. With a wide range of integrated China Mobile applications, the Nokia 6788 marks a new level of collaboration with China Mobile and offers enriched experiences to China’s 3G users. Nokia plans to introduce more TD-SCDMA phones in the near future, further boosting the development of this 3G standard in China.”

“We are excited to see the launch of Nokia 6788,” said Mr. Lu Xiangdong, Vice President of China Mobile Communications Corporation. “With extensive experience in the China market, Nokia will provide Chinese consumers with TD-SCDMA solutions that are perfectly catered to their needs. Sony Ericsson Satio, Aino и Yari вече се продават във Великобритания от оператора Vodafone. И трите телефона бяха пуснати по магазините преди 2 дни, но все още няма отзвук за изключителен интерес към някой от тях. Това не ме учудва, защото през последната година и нещо производителят не е предлагал нищо интересно, а и не видях някакъв маркетинг, който да популяризира телефоните сред потребителите. Картината е доста жалка, защото Sony Ericsson Satio е едва вторият 12-мегапикселов телефон на широкия пазар (изключвам Китай и Япония). Освен това е Symbian S60 смартфон, така че има и доста приложения за него. Определено има бъдеще, но му липсва реклама и ако Sony Ericsson разчитат операторите да се заемат с тази задачка, бъркат много.

Sony Ericsson Satio

Sony Ericsson Aino от своя страна би трябвало да е доста интересен на PlayStation потребителите, защото има поддръжка на конзолата и позволява управлението на мултимедийните й функции. Единственото дразнещо нещо в него е, че е чувствителен на допир екран, но не точно:) В голяма част от интерфейса не може да се използва тъч екрана, което според мен е супер голяма глупост. Иначе изглежда много готино, но не смятам, че ще превърне в добре продавам модел.

Sony Ericsson Aino

Sony Ericsson Yari си е тотално младежки телефон, само дето младежта вече иска по-интересни и сложни телефони, било то смартфони или iPhone. Може би Yari ще има успех на индийския пазар, но не и на европейския.

PS: Очакванията ми за България са само Satio да бъде успешно продаван, докато останалите няма да намерят място тук. В най-добрия случай, някой оператор ще предлага Yari на доста ниска цена и родителите ще го купуват на децата си. За Aino просто не смятам да коментирам – той е някаква грешка в индустрията.

mShell è un ambiente di sviluppo software per smartphone dotati di SO Symbian S60 e UIQ. Potente quanto Python, permette di creare script e di distribuirli poi alla comunità, il pacchetto di ditribuzione contiene già esempi e guida. E’ possibile scaricarlo da http://www.m-shell.net/download.aspx. Una volata scaricato  e installato, bisogna firmarlo, quindi si prendono i due file di mShell e si caricano su https://www.symbiansigned.com/app/page/public/openSignedOnline.do, si segue la proceduta e poi si installa sul telefono.

According to the latest unconfirmed rumour, Sony Ericsson has “denied” to further support Microsoft’s Windows Mobile OS. I don’t know why, but maybe they’ll change their minds when WinMo 6.5 / WinMo 7 comes out. Since they’re reportedly going to ditch Windows Mobile, they’ll be dishing out both Android and Symbian-based handsets in the future, since they don’t think that devices will “sell well” running on Microsoft’s mobile OS.

The last Windows Mobile phone Sony Ericsson will launch looks like it will be the XPERIA X2 (above); we already know about the S60-based Sony Ericsson Satio and the unconfirmed XPERIA X3 is going to be running Android. Maybe these handsets are a sign of a good future for Sony Ericsson.

A Nokia oficializou hoje no Nokia World o já muito comentado N97 Mini e com ele trouxe novidades muito esperadas para os atuais ou futuros donos do já lançado N97.

Basicamente é o mesmo design, em versão menor: 113 x 52,5 x 14,2 mm e 138 gramas contra 117,2 x 55,3 x 15,9 mm e 150 gramas do N97-pai e uma tela de 3,2″ no mini contra 3,5″ no original.

Demais especificações: 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, câmera de 5 megapixels com lente Carl Zeiss Tessar, captura de vídeo VGA a 30 quadros por segundo, A-GPS, microUSB, conector 3,5 mm para fone de ouvido e menos armazenamento interno: 8 GB internos (contra 32 GB no N97 “grande”), expansível com cartões de memória.

O N97 mini virá com o Lifecasting for Ovi, aplicativo que se integra ao velho e bom Facebook. Roda Symbian S60 5a. edição.

O N97 mini sai lá fora em outubro pelo preço sugerido de 450 euros.

As novidades que chegam também para o N97 original, por atualização gratuita, virão em forma de novos widgets para a tela inicial e o tão esperado flick scrolling, também conhecido como kinetic scrolling ou rolagem cinética, que permite rolar a tela arrastando o dedo por ela.
