If HAL 9000 mated with R2-D2 and their electronic offspring was tutored by Kraftwerk it would probably end up something like the Bliptronic 5000 LED Synthesizer.

At once a minimalist musical plaything and a hardcore old-skool synthesizer, the Bliptronic defies categorization as it belts out 8-Bit style style tunes from its grid of glowing buttons.

You’ll notice sound similar to a retro Casiotone with an interface not unlike a simplified Yamaha TENORI-ON… if that makes any sense. Either way, once you start touching the keys of the Bliptronic you’ll be hooked by it’s simple pattern-based approach to music.

Product Features

Unusual retro synthesizer is played with a grid of glowing buttons

Create looping patterns and change them dynamically while playing

Chain multiple units together and create more complex melodies

One octave range. 8 notes can be played simultaneously

8 different old-skool synth sounding instruments to choose from

Sounds created using FM waveform synthesis

Set the BPM (beats per minute) from 60 to 180 in 20 BPM increments

Built in speaker with headphone jack and line-out jack

Front panel is constructed from brushed aluminum

Includes, manual and 2 link cables for connecting additional Bliptronic units

Introducing BLOK

[BLOK] has been designed as an easy to use modular synthesis environment. The makers say that the available processing blocks are simple and concise and there are no restrictions on how you hook things up.

[BLOK] was designed as a platform for teaching audio synthesis to students, so even beginners can get started building their own synthesizers and effects right away.

Features

Classic synthesizer modules such as Oscillators, Filters, Envelopes and Effects

Easy to use interface. Blok was originally created as an educational program to teach audiodesign principles. This means that each module is simple to understand.

Connect everything. There are no limits on connecting blocks together.. if a block generates a signal, connect it up!

Versatile DSP engine. Additive, Subtractive and FM synthesis are all possible. Let Blok be your synthesis swiss army-knife.

Full undo/redo. Dont like what you have done? Go back to a time when you did!

Low in cpu. Blok was made to run well even on low-end computers. On today’s machines, it tears up the track! This will let you make more complicated setups and get more bang for your synthesis buck.

Pricing and Availability:

Free download at the moment but only the buzz version is officially supported at this point. Standalone and VST versions can be downloaded for free at present but are still under construction.

I’m really enjoying it!

For an album about relationships and inner monologue and only a few (okay fine several) completely fantastic scenarios, this sounds like it was recorded in space. Space, the way space looked in a B movie inspired by 2001 but made by fans of Sun Ra. Really! Just think about it for a minute, I know you’ll agree.

The layered synthetic sounds in this album put a cold glittering sheen on what is otherwise almost flawless pop song writing. The structures are simple: verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus repeats and then fades, over and over again. The lyrics are often minimal, a spare approach mirrored in Haines’ vocal technique, where her volume ranges from “quiet” to “not quite as quiet” with only a few notable exceptions.

Haines’ vocals add a stoic layer to songs otherwise made epic and grandiose with all the tricks written for dance music since disco. Looping riffs, vertical key changes, double-time thrumming basslines, it all combines into songs that are viciously catchy and itchably danceable. I can confirm this because I listened to this album quite a bit in the car, and was accused of tapping the pedals in time to the music, thus making my passenger somewhat carsick. The price of good songwriting, I say.

However, as you find yourself singing along to the lyrics, you start to notice how subtle, dark and witty Haines gets. There’s a mix of self deprecation and immensely sarcastic self-empowerment floating through her music, perfect for the world-weary twenty-something gir- I mean, woman, who likes looking good and telling people off and being lonely about it afterwards.

So, where and when would I put on this album? Well, any of the upbeat songs are great additions to your favourite dance mix. I can see “Sick Muse” helping amp up the ante while you predrink, and “Satellite Mind”, with its NES bassline, might take a few bars to get heavy but you wouldn’t be able to resist it if it came on while you were sulking at the edge of the dancefloor. “Stadium Love” is the song for when you’re too tired to be dancing but too high on endorphins to stop just yet. I’d save “Twilight Galaxy” for the quiet car ride home after a passionately futile night out with your distant lover, though. It’s the beautiful mood killer of the evening/album.

In summary, let me recommend this album to anyone who wants to pretend they are partying in the future and it is even lonelier than the 80s in space, and catchier.

It is from the Vintage Synthesizer Page.
Incredible what the possibilities were back in these days and PURE ANALOG!!

The sound reminds me of 80s Commodore 64 games.

They got some more great stuff to dig up, even a YouTube Channel.

I’m searching for a long time for a possibility to “emulate” such real vintage synthie stuff on the computer. Don’t know yet, if there’s a decent software (also midi-capable) for that. It really kinda sucks that I haven’t been able to work on Happy Riff song that much recently, but lucky for you, my 0.3 daily blog readers, I’ve taken the “Epic Piano Song” and made it kick-ass-ishly epic, including orchestral synthesis and lyrics… The only problem is, I had 5 days to do it, and it’s for an English end-of-term project… So the lyrics end up being based on a number of books and are slightly cheezy… But the song is F%^*$ing epic, srysly. I might make a video, and therefore put it on youtube and this blog… stay tuned, I have to mix it and record a couple more things by Wednesday afternoon!

I’m a big fan of electronic music, mainly because the sheer complexity of it all is mind boggling. To be able to control all those synths and beats and put them into strings that make sense impresses me. My own experience is anything most certainly at novice level. The following video recreates Daft Punk’s awesome “Harder Better Faster Stonger” track with nothing but just the Korg DS-10.

The Korg DS-10 is a music synthesizer for the Nintendo DS system.

The Drone Lab is a 4 voice analog drone synth, rhythm generator and FX processor. It is capable of generating rich, textured soundscapes, hypnotic drones and complex rhythmic sequences. It features a series of filter and distortions circuits as well as an audio input jack. This allows it to be used as an effects processor for external audio signals.
