STD Symptoms

STD symptoms are rarely noticed until they are so obvious that you cannot notice them. Waiting until you show any STD symptoms can do more harm to your health than getting tested regularly for STDs. With the way the economy is today, your health is the one area of your life that you need to invest into. If you are sexually active, even if it is with the same partner, it is recommended that you get tested for the 6 most common sexually transmitted diseases and infections. This will help promote honesty within relationships and can possibly cut down on infidelity. When it comes to your health, don’t be at risk of not knowing, or knowing too late.

Important Final Note

Many STDs and STIs can lead to health problems later on if they are not found and treated. Being infected with any of these STDs can increase your risk of living a good healthy quality of life. Chlamydia can lead to infertility and long-term pain in men and women. HIV/AIDS eventually destroys the immune system, leading to an increased risk of infections, cancers, and death.

If you’re worried that you might be infected with any STD or STI, your first step should be to call the STD Hotline at Simple STD Testing and speak with one of the certified counselors, where your questions can be asked and answered privately. More importantly, avoid sex until you have gotten tested and know for sure.

Thinking about the possibility of having a sexually transmitted disease can be an embarrassing and uncomfortable thing to think and talk about. With that said though, your first priority should always be to your own well-being and the safety of your health. STDs can be dangerous when left undiagnosed or untreated, so if you think you may be suffering from one, it is important to get yourself tested as quickly as possible. Even if you are not experiencing symptoms, sexual educators and specialist recommend highly that all sexually active individuals get tested regularly. In fact the standard of regular STD testing is every 3 months, even if you are with the same partner. With temptation and infidelity being at all time highs; it is never a good idea to “assume” when it comes to your health. Getting STD tested regularly and especially prior to engaging in sexual intercourse with a new partner are necessary to building an awareness to yourself and your partner that you take your health seriously, and if they want have or continue to have a relationship with you, that they should do the same.

There are a lot of myths out there about sexually transmitted diseases or STDs. These myths are sim

There are a lot of myths out there about sexually transmitted diseases or STDs. These myths are simply untrue and can be very harmful if you believe them. Here are a two of those myths and why they are not true.

Perhaps the most significant myth associated with sexually transmitted diseases is that a person can have safe sex. The term “safe sex” has been used with abandon by many well intentioned people in recent years. However, the reality is that by using the term safe sex, some people actually are mislead to believe that there are ways in which you can have sex with multiple partners provided you “follow the rules of safe sex.”

Safe sex is the first myth I will address. The idea of having safe sex is a myth because it convinces people that there are ways to have multiple partners and not contract a STD, as long as you follow the safe sex rules. This is just not true! Even the scientific side of sex says that if you have more than one partner it is not safe. Now, there are ways of having “safer sex” such as using a condom and other protections that are available. The unspoken truth is that most “protection devises” are not to prevent the spread of STDs, but rather to help prevent pregnancy. Due to the way STDs are transferred, primarily through any infected skin to skin contact, it is virtually impossible to protect your body from contracting a STD if it is to come into contact with an infected party. Some people have gone as far to say that they can see if the other party is infected. This may be the case only when the symptoms are visually noticeable, and even then it can be very misleading. The truth is that there is no protection from contracting a STD, nor is there a full proof way of seeing with your own two eyes if someone is infected.

For years sexual educators and specialists have been suggesting regular STD testing. Because of the uncharacteristic nature of STDs, many of which can be dormant (sleeping) for weeks, months and even years, it is crucial to get tested regularly for the most common STDs. The 6 most common STDs to get tested for are chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, herpes, HIV and hepatitis. You do not want to wait until the symptoms are noticeable, as that is when your body has begun to lose the battle within. Sexually active people should get tested regularly every 3 months, and should have any new partner tested as well prior to having sexual intercourse. It is not as invasive as you think, and when done through the proper channels, does not take as long as you think.

Click here to find out just how easy it is to get tested for the 6 most common STDs.

The next myth I will address is for those that go to get checked out by their doctor and think that STD testing is part of their exam. Now hold on to your hats, because what you are about to hear might not only shock you but upset you as well.

Many people think that when they go see their doctor for their check up, that they are also being tested for STDs. WRONG! Many insurance companies consider STD testing an electoral examination. What this means is that, unless you specifically ask your doctor to get tested for STDs, and if your doctor is even able to do so, most doctors DO NOT test you for STDs because it is not covered by most insurance companies. In fact, most insurance companies will not cover this form of testing, and what is worse, if your doctor does run the test and if you should come back either negative or positive for a STD, you run the risk of having your insurance rates go up, and even run the risk of getting dropped by your insurance company. Insurance companies will base your rate on statistical data and previous history to come up with your “risk level.” Another thing to keep in mind is if you have your doctor run the tests, they must report the results and it will be placed in your permanent health file. So if you are using your companies insurance plan, and you get tested using that insurance, if in the future you do not have access to that companies insurance plan, the remarks in your permanent health file could keep you from getting insured in the future due to your “risk level” as insurance companies see it. The good news is that there are ways of getting tested for STDs confidentially.

To learn more about how to get confidential STD testing click here.

Now that you have a little more information about sexual transmitted diseases and how to properly get tested, you can consider yourself a bit better informed and perhaps start to become more aware of protecting your health. Remember that there is no such thing as safe sex, only safer sex, and also know that when it comes to your health, your privacy is one thing to never surrender.

Since many STDs show no or very disguisable symptoms, your sexual partner(s) could also be infected and both parties should get tested immediately and often. It is recommended that anyone sexually active be tested regularly every 3 months to prevent from the undetection of a lingering STD, even if you have been with the same partner. It should also be noted that many people who have a sexually transmitted infection often have more than one increasing the importance of getting tested for the 8 most common STDs.

Recognizing Infections

BEFORE YOU READ ANY FURTHER, please understand that by the time you start to experience any of the following symptoms, your body has begun to lose a battle within itself. Symptoms can take several weeks to months to even years to surface. This is how and why many STDs continue to grow and spread as wildly as they have. Below are only a few of the most common spread STDs, to learn more about some of the other common STDs click here or visit Simple STD Testing.

Sexually transmitted diseases (STD) are a group of illnesses that are transmitted between people through sexual contact. The diseases can be very serious, causing health issues that can even result in death. There are over 12 million people from all social groups and all ages that contract STDs every year. This large number is a clear indication that there is a lack of awareness and information. The following are the 6 most common STDs and STIs found in the United States. For more STD symptoms, pictures and testing information click here.

Well after a disturbingly depressing few weeks FilmWipe365 is back with a bang. My illness has gone

Well after a disturbingly depressing few weeks FilmWipe365 is back with a bang. My illness has gone (again I have not got VD as several people emailed so don’t worry you will not got a bout of te clap from reading this). If I had planned this better I would have reviewed the Korean film The Presidents Last Bang, however, I am lazy and heading to morbid obesity and didn’t think of this incredibly funny joke early enough. I feel slightly ashamed to come back with this film. It is like Robbie Williams 2007 return Rudebox – the first album in music history that made people want to get syphilis in their ears. What makes the film worst is not the fact that you have to read another excruciatingly long review about how much I hated watching it, nor that I wish everyone involved with the film a short and painful career. It is instead the fact that I was actually excited about watching it and instead had my hopes crushed much like David Furnish when he thought It’s a Boy Girl Thing would stop him from having to spounge off his sugar daddy Elton John. Rudo y Cursi – the mainstream vehicle for Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal – is frankly the weakest film I have had the misforune to watch for sometime and actually left me begging to watch films of the quality of the Break up and Eight Legged Freaks.

The film follows the brothers nicknamed Rudo (Diego Luna) and Cursi (Gael Garcia Bernal) on their journey from the bannana plantations in rural Mexico to super stardom playing football for two of the nations biggest teams. It all kicks off for them when Batuta (a soccer scout) breaks down near their town. After helping to fix his car the brothers compete against one another to get him to represent them. Cursi wins and leaves their provincial home for Mexico City. He is a big success and finishes as top scorer in his first season, which gives him the opportunity to follow his real passion, music. Rudo has it a bit tougher. Several months after Cursi, Batuta gives Rudo an opportunity with a rubbish team. He leaves his wife and children to follow his dream. After stuggling to get a place in the team in his first season he fortunately finds himself in the top flight. The second season in football contrasts hugely for the pair. Cursi has lost form due to his relationship with a tv star and is on the verge of being sent to a lower division club. Rudo, is close to becoming the best goal keeper in the history of the league. However, his gambling addiction has left him owing money to some dangerous criminals and in the game against Cursi’s team he is asked to throw the game. He is left with the dilema of following his dream or doing what he is told.

Well after what is possibly the longest description of a film in review history, I will get down to business (I can hear the sense of relief). Until Cursi leaves for Mexico the film is desperately dull. The film offers very little about the depressing poverty that the pair grow up in. In some ways this is good, however there is hardly anything interesting. And when you do get a flash of something interesting you’re so bored that you struggle to notice it (such as the abuse by her boyfriend of the pairs mother). Cursi on his own in Mexico city is abut as exciting as staring at a beie wll for 15 hours. It is so difficult to stay awake only repeated attempts at self harm will stop you from seeing most of the film with your eyes closed.

Personally the most excruciating aspect of the film is Rudo’s gambling addiction. From about 2 minutes into him arriving in Mexico city you quickly guess where the story is going. It takes about 40 minutes to get to the point that you had magically predicted. It is so painful to watch that cutting off my penis, cooking it on an open fire and then sharing it with a small Mongolian family as I slowly bleed to death seems a tempting alternative. There is nothing I loath more than being able to predict what is going to happen.

If I had my way Radovan Karadžićy would not be the only one in the Hague waiting to serve trial for crimes against humanity. Director Carlos Cauron deserves to be sentenced to a life punishment for what he has done to cinema. Technically the film is ok. However, as the boy genius who wrote and directed this horror show he takes full credit for the misery he has brought on the world. The script is terrible. Even his mum would struggle to tell him that this was any good. The dialogue between characters is so turgid it makes watching paint dry genuinely seem quite exiting. His direction does little to excite the senses. Worst of all he manages to make two excellent actors seem like David Arquette. This is quite a skill as David Arquette is so bad that even genital crabs seem like Oscar nominated actors in comparison to him.

Overall this should be avoided at all costs. Even football thugs will be bored as you only see about 1 minute of football. Save money and do something else.

1/10 – If I couldgive minus figures Iwould but I don’t want to give it the infamy.

America seems to be going through a second sexual revolution of sorts, with this foray into one of man’s most carnal acts proving to be more harmful than good.

A recent study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Preventions showed that the spread of sexually transmitted diseases is steadily continuing to rise after an internal report showed that reported Chlamydia cases broke a CDC record last year.

2008 witnessed 1.2 million new Chlamydia cases, beating the old record of 1.1 million set in 2007, which made history as the most recorded instances for that particular disease in history.

Another STD, Syphilis, has also experienced a jump in numbers. Nearly eliminated 10 years ago, there was 13,500 newly recorded cases is 2008, an increase of 2,000 cases from statistics given just one year before that.

According to the study, both gay and heterosexual men were the most likely to contract either sickness.

In a similarly related study, the CDC also discovered that the most religious states were also the states with the highest birthrates.

Mississippi topped the list.

My brother sent me a movie called “Under Our Skin“. It’s about chronic Lyme diseas

My brother sent me a movie called “Under Our Skin“. It’s about chronic Lyme disease, its dramatic effects and how most of the medical community doesn’t recognize it as a disease. You can blame our capitalistic health care system and conflicts of interest for that.

The movie points out that the Lyme disease agent is a bacterium known as Borrelia (there are 3 strains), which is shaped like a spiral, allowing it to bore into human tissue. Another spirochetal (spiral-shaped) bacterium that causes disease in humans is Treponema pallidum. This causes syphilis. What I find hard to believe is that the chronic Lyme naysayers claim that the Lyme bacteria cannot affect the brain, yet syphilis’s effects on the brain are well-known. (When you watch the movie, you’ll see that Lyme does indeed affect the brain, even though many physicians will tell those with chronic Lyme that “it’s all in their heads” as a way to dismiss their disease. Ironically, they are right, but they’re not actually helping.)

The movie hinted that, like syphilis, Lyme disease may be sexually transmitted, although I’m not sure enough is known about this.

The best time to treat Lyme is at the very beginning, once you are bitten by a tick. My brother also suggests asking for the more expensive, but more accurate, test for Lyme right at the get-go. The test that’s usually done has an extremely high false-negative result and if an insurance company sees a false-negative, it won’t pay for treatment.

If you know someone with Lyme disease or you live in an area with a high concentration of ticks that carry Lyme, this movie is a must-see.

A senior Chinese public health official says the tenfold growth in the number of syphilis cases over the past decade in China has been driven by the country’s rapid economic growth.

Xiang-Sheng Chen says the sexually transmitted disease re-emerged in the 1980s after being virtually eradicated for two decades.

Chen says prostitution, worker migration from the countryside to cities and poor health care systems means cases are now increasing 30 percent a year.

Chen, the deputy director of China’s National Center for Sexually Transmitted Diseases Control, says syphilis is particularly prevalent in the southeast, where the economy is booming but inequality is also the greatest.

Craaaazy for feeeeling… someone else

Syphilis is a well-known STD (sexually transmitted disease) because it has a funny-looking name and because it infected an estimated 11.8 million people in 1999 alone. Its street names include: “The Syph”; “The Great Pox”, distinguishing it from the other pox that was going around, smallpox; and “Disease that your mum has #17”.

Syphilis is caused by the corkscrew-shaped bacteria Treponema pallidum. It survives a very short time outside the body and only spreads by direct contact with the open sores, so its transmission is almost always associated with sexual contact (Bow-chicka bow wow). Transmission between a mother and child during birth can also occur. In these cases, there is a high chance of still-birth or death of the child after birth, if not treated immediately.

After infection, there is an incubation period of 10 to 90 days. Primary (or early phase) syphilis is characterized by a hard, painless, ulcer-like sore at the site of infection (usually the penis in males and the vaginal canal or labia of females, although the rectum and mouth can also be transmission sites). This heals by itself after 3 to 10 weeks. This comes as a deceptive relief for those too embarrassed to go to the doctor for crotch-rot.

[x] Errortype: I don’t really feel like grossing out people who don’t want to see a penis with a deep ulcer

The disease becomes latent (i.e. presenting no observable symptoms) until 4-10 weeks after the primary sore. The symptoms of second-stage syphilis are incredibly varied. They may include a general unwell feeling, muscle aches, joint pain, fever, rash and/or swollen lymph nodes. People may not even go to a doctor because they may feel like they have the flu and just stay at home for a while. Again, these symptoms go away by themselves without treatment.

Once again the disease goes into a latent period for an indeterminate time. In the early latent phase (defined as the first couple of years of the infection) the primary sore may flare up from time to time. In the late latent phase, the patient is generally non-infectious and asymptomatic.

However, around one third of untreated patients go through to get tertiary syphilis. This can cause infection of the tissue surrounding blood vessels leading to destruction of local organs, muscles, bone or membranes. Organ failure, stroke, blindness, dementia and aneurysm (when blood vessels become weak and rupture) are only a small number of serious outcomes that can come from this. 20% of people with tertiary syphilis end up dying from these complications.

In any stage, syphilis can be cured by penicillin. In early stages, only a single dose is required. However, the damage done to organs can not be reversed. Research is being done into a vaccine to limit transmission.

Concept: Immune system evasion

Pathogenic (disease-causing) microbes need to learn to hide from the immune system, especially those that are latent for long period of time. If they don’t, they are quickly disposed of and aren’t passed on to another host. In the case of T. pallidum, it does this via two mechanisms; covering itself in the body’s proteins and a thick molecular armour.

T. pallidum has receptors on its surface that bind to fibronectin, a protein that is naturally present in the blood. So as it spreads from the infection site to the entire body, these proteins stick to the outside of the bacterium. Thus, the cell gets through without getting noticed by the immune system, who have been “trained” not to attack things that usually occur in the body (if this system breaks down, you get auto-immune diseases, such as lupus or arthritis).

Even if T. pallidum is found by the immune system, it has thick molecular armour (made up of a mesh of long sugar molecules) that makes it resistant to immune attack and that makes it much more likely for T. pallidum to survive.

I can’t find a good pun for syphilis…

A(n) (in)famous research project on the effects of syphilis was carried out in Tuskegee, Alabama in 1932. 600 “Negros”, 399 with tertiary syphilis and 201 without (acting as controls), were part of a study, although originally planned for 6 months, lasting 40 years. Free annual medical care, hot food, burial and trips to and from the city (all subjects were from rural communities, working as sharecroppers) were offered in exchange for X-rays, physical examination, burial assistance and eventual autopsying of the farmers. All of the subjects consented out of free will, however they were later found not to have been informed, saying that they were being treated for “bad blood”: The real purpose of the experiment was never revealed to the men.

When penicillin was found to be a highly effective treatment in 1947, subjects were not given a choice to quit the study (which required them to stay off any treatment) or even informed about the drug. In other words, the scientists let men die to fuel their own research.

The study was stopped immediately when the practices were leaked to the New York Times in 1972. Then, in American tradition, the lawsuits came a’flyin’. The U.S. government settled out of court by paying off the living participants $9 million, free health services and free burial services to them and their family members. Finally, in 1999, the government accepted responsibility publicly when President Clinton presented an apology on behalf of the USA and installed a bioethics committee to oversee the ethical regulations of scientific projects.

These ethical committees have been considered a bane for many researchers, who feel that they need to fill in reams of paper in thirteen-riplicate for a study that involves the word ‘animal’. Of course, with studies like these being carried out before any oversight, we have to admit some necessity for such things. But then again, with so much torture to animals and human going on already and this vast minority of such cruel studies as above, we have to question if it’s worth the millions of man-hours invested in these oversights. But then…

Sorry, I digress. In conclusion, syphilis, bad; intact genitalia, good.

Okay, a lot of you have been waiting for this post.

The teacher post.

I talked about a teacher I have/had a while back, but I didn’t really set a list of rules or standards, so this is it.

************************************************************************

Make a syllabus, and stick to it.

You should only have to stray from your syllabus once or twice.

Do not have papers that are due when class starts, when class ends, on weekends, on non-class days in the morning, on non-class days in the afternoon, on class days outside of class, and during class.

Be freaking consistent.

Do not accept papers from e-mails sometimes, under the door sometimes, in the mailbox sometimes, in class sometimes, and via Pidgey sometimes.

Be fricking consistent.

Do not talk about your personal life for more than ten minutes per class.

ASK if we know what a general knowledge writing skill is before teaching it like we’re stupid.

If you don’t know a certain computer action, ASK.

Please, baby Jesus, ASK.

ASK if someone in the class knows how to do something, before you teach your vomit-syphilis-ugly way of doing it hastily.

And DON’T just say “well there’s that, or you can do it my easier way,” which is ALWAYS the harder, uglier way.

When asked a question, just answer the question.

If the asker wants to know “why,” they will ask “why” afterwards.

If you have trouble keeping attention in a class that takes place in a computer lab, don’t just give up and have the students circle up.

It is only 50% of the student’s responsibility to pay attention.

Guess who’s the other 50%.

Accept e-mail.

I promise you, more papers will get turned in if e-mail is accepted.

If there are worries about printing, we have a printers across campus, and yeah, ink and toner and paper is expensive, but they predict that people will print crazily, and stock accordingly.

DO…

NOT…

For the love of sweet baby Jesus…

Bring your personal opinions about the environment or politics into the classroom.

If you have to, go out of your way to avoid doing so.

Have one main way of contact.

I know it sounds good to have more than one, but in reality, having a fax, cell phone, home phone, office hours, campus hours, mailbox, and a Pidgey is not preferred over frequent checks of e-mail.

Nobody wants to call your cell phone.

Or house phone.

Nobody wants to text you, either.

Nobody wants to make a lunch date with you.

No offense, but you’re a teacher.

It’s society’s fault.

USE your overhead.

I promise you: It’s NOT THAT COMPLICATED.

Turn it on…

Press “source” until the computer’s screen pops up…

POINT THE REMOTE TO THE MACHINE.

The projector screen is just a flexible white wall, there’s no electric anything there, and if the remote works sparsely with the screen, it’s 100% of the time an accidental reflection or the remote being really good.

Augh.

To be continued.

The death of the known Russian revolutionary, Vladimir Ilici Lenin, was caused by syphilis, a sexually transmitted disease.
Vladimir Lenin died in 1924, after a prolonged suffering. Historians believed that the Russian leader suffered a series of three strokes which eventually, would have caused him death.
Recently, British author Helen Rappaport discovered a series of documents from Columbia University in New York that she thinks to be the evidence indicating that Lenin’s death occurred as a result of neurosifilis, a form of syphilis affecting the brain.
The documents were written by Russian scientist Ivan Pavlov. Pavlov, Nobel laureate and famous for his work performed on dogs behavioral conditioning, said that “the revolution was made by a madman whose brain was affected by syphilis”.
Rappaport believes that it’s possible for Lenin to have infected with syphilis after having sex with a Parisian prostitute, in 1902.

I am becoming increasingly burdened by the feeling that my studies are more of a hindrance than anyt

I am becoming increasingly burdened by the feeling that my studies are more of a hindrance than anything else in my life. I can’t be exactly sure when, but at some point in time, pharmacy became a bit like a disease. I can (although not very confidently) liken it to how I am imagine having syphilis would feel. The disease burrows its way in when you’re vulnerable, lies dormant and waits to strike. Whilst its host feeds and nurtures it, it lays siege to the mind. Finally, the relationship ends with the host’s insanity and an ensuing destruction of the faculties.

Admittedly this might be a tad dramaticised, but whilst its’ tentacles are firmly wrapped around your life it’s hard to escape the feeling of angor animi (impending doom). However, possibly a more pertinent correlation is that, like syphilis, a fair amount of onus should be placed on the host for the disease’s contraction. Unfortunately unlike the aforementioned sailor-killing spirochete, this kind of disease cannot be banished from the body by a couple of shots of intramuscular benzylpenicillin (I also don’t want to somehow construe that my decision to study pharmacy was the result of unsafe sex practices).

Now, I want to be clear that this post is not meant to, in any way, demean or debase the lofty and noble profession that is pharmacy. At it’s heart, pharmacy is an innovative, essential and intrinsically altruistic profession that forms an indispensable (pardon the pun) element of the distinguished Australian healthcare system.Rather the focus of this rambling post is the syphilis I gave myself.

Naturally, due to its clandestine nature, for years I was blissfully unawares of the ticking time bomb within. But sure enough symptoms began to appear. A spot of apathy here, a patch of lassitude there. Soon enough I was in the midst of an all-consuming fever of disinterest that clawed away at, not only my academic, but my social life. The next step: denial. Why am I all of a sudden rejecting something that for the past three and a half years I have so emphatically devoted myself to?

The answer to that question isn’t easy to find. You have to go through some serious introspective shit and rifle through what you perceive are your values, beliefs, priorities, history, experiences. Real messy work. But at the core of it I think you find there exists the domain of the soul. Aristotelian in its union with the body, Platonic in its moral and rational essence and unremittingly and inextricably tied to our happiness.

In retrospect, pharmacy was, an attempt to satiate the soul by pleasing the body. High pay, low stress, low work load, near perfect working hours, the ability to leave work at work and never carry it home, an excellent ergonomic work-environment. Rightfully so, the body would be grateful for these points but the soul needs more than a rested body. In the end, amidst all the otherwise soul-satisfying good points about pharmacy, it has always been an odd choice, the consequences of which are catching up with me. I am comfortable with handing over pharmacy to people who are actually passionate about it.

Now I’ve whinged long enough and I am resigned, albeit unwillingly, to the fact that for the next year and a half I will have to live with this disease. Hopefully I can develop a kind of symbiotic relationship whereby it drains me of life and vitality for its mere survival and I use it as an excuse to write pissey posts like this.

Call Today: 1(888)MAX-LABS or 1(888)629-5227

Lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) is a chronic (long-term) infection of the lymphatic system caused by three different types of the bacteria Chlamydia trachomatis. The bacteria spread through sexual contact. Lymphedema in later stages may not resolve despite elimination of the organism. Fluctuant buboes may be aspirated or incised if necessary for symptomatic relief, but most patients respond quickly to antibiotics. Lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) is an uncommon form of sexually transmitted disease caused by serovars L1, L2 or L3 of Chlamydia trachomatis . You can be checked anonymously at a STD testing centers in Louisville.

These LGV serovars are sufficiently different from the other oculo-genital D thru K serovars of C.
LGV was assessed at the time of collection, according to phenotypic properties observed during cell culture. Although the growth characteristics of LGV serovars can be distinguished from serovars D-K, cell culture for C. LGV can be difficult to diagnose. Typically, the primary lesion produced by LGV is a small genital or rectal lesion, which can ulcerate at the site of transmission after an incubation period of 3-30 days. LGV was first described by Wallace in 1833 and again by Durand, Nicolas, and Favre in 1913. LGV is primarily an infection of lymphatics and lymph nodes.

Lymphangitis of the dorsal male genital organ may also occur and resembles string or cord. If the route was anal sex the infected person may experience lymphadenitis and lymphangitis noted above or may have proctitis, inflammation limited to the rectum (the distal 10-12 cm) that may be associated with anorectal pain, tenesmus , or rectal discharge, or proctocolitis , inflammation of the colonic mucosa extending to 12 cm above the anus and is associated with symptoms of proctitis plus diarrhea or abdominal cramps and or inflammatory involvement of perirectal or perianal lymphatic tissues .

Lymphogranuloma inguinale, caused by Chlamydia trachomatis serovar L1-L3 is rare in patients from western countries but needs yet to be considered in the differential diagnosis of genital ulcers. It is a reported case of a young male patient without any eventful travel history who presented with a genital ulcer at the sulcus coronarius and painfully enlarged lymph nodes in the right inguinal area.

LGV can be suspected on positive chlamydia serology, isolation of Chlamydia trachomatis either from the infected site or histological identification of Chlamydia in infected tissue. Traditional methods for LGV diagnosis have been reviewed elsewhere, but the modern techniques are now based on nucleic acid amplification tests (NAATs). LGV may also produce rectal ulcers, bleeding, pain, and discharge, especially among those who practice receptive anal intercourse. Genital lesions caused by LGV can be mistaken for other ulcerative STDs such as syphilis, genital herpes, and chancroid.

LGV Cure

LGV can be cured with antibiotic treatment for 3 weeks followed by test of cure. LGV is treated with a long course of a specific antibiotic that is taken by mouth. It is extremely important to finish all medicine that you are given, even if your symptoms are gone. LGV is more common in men than women. The main risk factor is having multiple sexual partners.
