Have you ever had a problem on Twitter, when you follow a person but it shows you as unfollowing them? You aren’t the only one and it has been an ongoing issue for some time, but in Apple fashion Twitter finally spoke up about it. They have acknowledged that there is an issue and are working on a fix for the issue. The best way to confirm you are still following that person is to simply click on their profile.

They have acknowledged another bug that has been around for forever, that Twitter doesn’t automatically update their follower count properly. Twitter has acknowledged this is an ongoing problem and is working on a fix.

Now I have not experienced the first issue, but I have noticed the updating issue myself. It eventually does correct itself, but it takes about a day or so. I did encounter a serious system glitch a while back when my followers and following dropped down to zero but I was still receiving feeds from everyone. Eventually, the system recovered about an hour later.

In any case, while you’re waiting for the fix, you can simply check people’s profile to make sure you are still following them. However, if you are following several hundred celebrities and news sites, then your best bet is to wait for Twitter to finally get around to fixing that issue, unless you have a lot of time on your hands in the coming weekend.

Today I fixed a bug in our multi-carrier manifest system that was caused when another issued was fix

Today I fixed a bug in our multi-carrier manifest system that was caused when another issued was fixed. The bug itself was originally fixed six months ago. Then promptly become unfixed when the second issue was fixed. Sound confusing?

Our manifest system comes with custom scripts that we can edit on our own. We had a problem with a certain shipping service level rounding both up and down to the nearest pound for rating when it should 100% of the time always round up. Our manifest provider helped me write code to fix this issue.

Then a few months later they again helped me write code to automatically change between service levels based on certain criteria. In doing so they commented out the rounding fix code; presumably for testing purposes. The code remained commented out and we again had a rounding error.

The problem was that I still assumed that the rounding issue was fixed and it took several months before we found out that a lot of our shipments were rounding down to the nearest pound and not rating correctly, thus leading to lost revenue. It was not until today that I was able to fully understand the sequence of events that happened and fix the problem.

Be careful when updating your code that you don’t comment out or otherwise disrupt other lines of code within your scripts. In this case our manifest company had to comment out the rounding code to test their service level swap code. They just forgot to uncomment the code when they were done. Thus be very careful when others update your code that you check it over before signing off on the project. Otherwise months could go by before you discover that there is even a problem.

CentOS 5.4 is touted as being a stable OS, and a free alternative to
Windows. However, when installing CentOS 5.4 from an installation CD, when
I selected the option to add CentOS add-on packages from another repository, the install failed, so I had to install without the add-on packages.
Looking for a way to backup the system after each package upgrade, because my last upgrade produced a system that repeatedly crashed, and had to be reinstalled completely to stabilize it. – gwn

Well, nothing is perfect….

When you login to the message board, google takes away the bar at the top… not a major problem but if you just come back to thegoldworld.com, it _should_ keep you logged in….

I will work on a way to fix this, but don’t hold your breath… it could take a while because I am not sure what they are doing… (I am sure it is javascript… just not how to or even if I _should_ disable that feature)
