<title><![CDATA[Lines around Subotica and Szeged]]></title>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>This item simply lists the rail infrastructure proposals centred on the cities of  Subotica and Szeged. Both would be served by the proposed <a href="http://infrastruct.wordpress.com/2008/06/07/high-speed-line-budapest-novi-sad-beograd/">high-speed line from Budapest</a>, which would split south of Kecskemét. The high-speed line (HSL) via Subotica would continue to Beograd (Belgrade). The HSL to Szeged would use the existing route via Kikinda, to Timişoara.</p>

<title><![CDATA[Regional line Szeged - Makó - Arad]]></title>

<description><![CDATA[This proposed line passes the Hungarian &#8211; Romanian border at Nagylak, the busiest entry point ]]></description>
<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>This proposed line passes the Hungarian &#8211; Romanian border at Nagylak, the busiest entry point to Romania. The border was created by the 1920 <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Trianon">Treaty of Trianon</a>, which dismembered the Kingdom of Hungary. The present 47-km line from Szeged turns north just before the border &#8211; so it looks like it was re-routed after 1920. However, that is its original route, visible on the base map used here, an <a href="http://lazarus.elte.hu/hun/digkonyv/topo/3felmeres.htm">Austro-Hungarian military map of around 1910</a>. The existing Nagylak station did serve a village of that name, but it is now across the border, and uses the Romanian spelling &#8216;Nădlac&#8217;.</p>
<p>On the other side of Nădlac, a 52-km local line runs to Arad. This is Romanian line 215, operated by Regiotrans, with <a href="http://www.regiotrans.ro/mersul_trenului/timisoara/Arad--Nadlac_si_Retur.pdf">8 trains a day</a>. There may once have been a track connection between the two lines, but there was no rail line Szeged &#8211; Arad as such. The proposal here is to create one. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Szeged">Szeged</a> is 100 km from <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arad,_Romania">Arad</a>, and they both have a population of about 170 000. The only town between them is Makó, with 24 000 inhabitants: otherwise the line serves rural villages. It generally follows the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maros_River">river Maros / Mureş</a>, which flows through Arad, and joins the Tisza at Szeged.</p>

<p>The parallel <em>road</em> route is part of <a href="http://ec.europa.eu/transport/infrastructure/basis_networks/guidelines/doc/pp_implementation_progress_report_may08.pdf">Trans-European priority Project 7</a>, and will be upgraded to motorway. In Hungary, the <a href="http://hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/M43-as_autópálya_(Magyarország)">M43</a> is already under construction. A double-track electric rail line on the same axis, is not unreasonable.</p>
<p>Szeged itself would be served by the proposed <a href="http://infrastruct.wordpress.com/2008/06/07/high-speed-line-budapest-novi-sad-beograd/">high-speed line from Budapest</a> via Kecskemét. The original bridge over the river Tisza, near the existing <a href="http://www.vasutallomasok.hu/allomas.php?az=szeg">Szeged station</a>, was bombed in 1944, and never rebuilt. The proposed new link line would replace it, serving a new station for the high-speed line (HSL). The new bridge over the Tisza can also be used, to re-connect the Makó line to the rest of the network. At present, trains start from a small station on the other side of the Tisza: <a href="http://www.vasutallomasok.hu/allomas.php?az=ujsg">Újszeged</a>, &#8216;New Szeged&#8217;.</p>
<p>The line to Nagylak forms part of <a href="http://www.vasutallomasok.hu/vonkep.php?num=121">line 121</a>, an indirect rail route Szeged &#8211; Békéscsaba, via Nagylak and Kétegyháza. The first section would be upgraded as a line to Arad: the rest of line 121 (north of Nagylak) would remain as a rural line. Like other Hungarian rural lines, it has halts with <a href="http://www.vasutallomasok.hu/allomas.php?az=desz">somewhat simple facilities</a>, or in some cases <a href="http://www.vasutallomasok.hu/allomas.php?az=fern">no facilities whatsoever</a>. It is not surprising that they attract no passengers. Hungarian government policy is to close these lines, by simply abandoning them (without a legal closure).</p>
<p>Trains to Arad would start from the new Szeged HSL station, not from the city-centre station. In this scenario, Újszeged station would close: the first station south of the river would be at Szőreg. With extra tracks from the Tisza bridge (shown in blue), trains to Arad could use the existing Szőreg station. (It is also possible to retain Újszeged station as a terminal for some local trains, with a new footbridge to the city centre).</p>
<p>The next stations on the Nagylak line are at <a href="http://hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deszk">Deszk</a> (population 3500) and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiszombor">Kiszombor</a> (4000).</p>

<p>The line crosses the Maros into <a href="http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Makó">Makó</a>. The line here has a double S-curve, with Makó station between them. Probably the bridge must be renewed anyway, so the station approaches can be realigned, if possible (dotted lines). Makó station itself is well located, 1100 m from the centre: it would be 31 km from the Szeged HSL station.</p>
<p>From Makó, the alignment to Nagylak is almost straight, with some slight curves near <a href="http://hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apátfalva">Apátfalva</a> (population, with Magyarcsanád, 4500). Here a <a href="http://infrastruct.wordpress.com/2009/12/22/szeged-lovrin-timisoara/">regional line to Timişoara via Lovrin</a> would diverge.</p>
<p>At Nagylak, a new alignment is needed, to connect to the Arad line. It must bypass the large border post, and include a new station for the small town of <a href="http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nădlac">Nădlac</a> (population 8000). The simplest solution is a new 5-km alignment, with a cut-and-cover tunnel under the low-density housing. The variant shown is aligned with the street grid: that makes it longer, but minimises demolition.</p>

<p>From Nădlac, the existing line follows the river, via Semlac / Szemlak (this section is not shown on the  base map). A new direct alignment is better, alongside the main road (E68). It would rejoin the existing alignment at <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pecica">Pecica / Pecska</a> (13 000), the only other station before Arad. The existing line runs north of Pecica, before turning back south. The new alignment would run on the north edge of town, with a new station, and join the Arad line further east.</p>
<p><a href="http://infrastruct.wordpress.com/files/2009/12/semlac-arad.jpg"><img src="http://infrastruct.wordpress.com/files/2009/12/semlac-arad.jpg" alt="" title="semlac-arad" width="700" height="331" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-2768" /></a></p>
<p>After entering Arad itself, the alignment is <a href="http://www.panoramio.com/photo/10386926">wide enough</a>, but needs improvement. The S-curve at the crossing with Calea Aurel Vlaicu could be eliminated by a link line, north of this road. This is an industrial area, where construction of a new line (shown in red) should not be a problem. A new station could be located where it crosses the Calea Aurel Vlaicu.</p>
<p>Near the main station, the line from Nădlac joins the main line from Budapest via Békéscsaba. The junction needs realignment and grade separation, but there is more than enough room for that. Arad station is large, and reasonably well located. A wide boulevard leads to the city centre: it is about 1700 m to the Town Hall.</p>

<p>The regional line would be about 101 km long, from the Szeged HSL station to Arad station. Mainly due to the new section along the E68, it is a very direct route &#8211; only 8% longer than a straight line. It should allow a journey time of about 70 minutes for regional trains &#8211; and under an hour for fast trains, stopping only at Makó.</p>

<title><![CDATA[Upgraded Szeged - Békéscsaba rail line]]></title>

<description><![CDATA[This proposed upgrading of the 97-km Szeged &#8211; Békéscsaba line, is part of series of proposals ]]></description>
<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>This proposed upgrading of the 97-km Szeged &#8211; Békéscsaba line, is part of  series of proposals for rail infrastructure in the region (Danube &#8211; Tisza, Dél Alfold, northern Vojvodina). The line is part of a strategic secondary route, built when the whole region was part of the Kingdom of Hungary, in the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austria–Hungary">Austro-Hungarian Empire</a>. The route extends from Osijek on the Drava river, via Szeged and Oradea, to Satu Mare on the upper Tisza. It is generally at right angles to the radial lines from Budapest. The route was cut by the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Trianon">post-1918 borders</a>, and is now in four countries: Croatia, Serbia, Hungary and Romania. The Szeged &#8211; Békéscsaba section remained in Hungary, currently as <a href="http://www.vasutallomasok.hu/vonkep.php?num=135">rail line 135</a>. It links the two main routes into Romania.</p>
<p><a href="http://infrastruct.wordpress.com/files/2009/12/szeged-bekescsaba.jpg"><img src="http://infrastruct.wordpress.com/files/2009/12/szeged-bekescsaba.jpg" alt="" title="szeged-bekescsaba" width="675" height="662" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-2752" /></a></p>
<p>Proposed is a technically simple upgrading, to a double-track electric inter-regional line with a line speed of 200 km/h, and through tracks at all intermediate stations. The only major infrastructure project is a new bridge over the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tisza">river Tisza</a>. Especially at the eastern end, this is a single-track line, with <a href="http://www.vasutallomasok.hu/allomas.php?az=furj">extremely simple rural halts</a>. &#8216;Upgrading&#8217; here means closing the line, and building a new one on the alignment, which is almost straight. In the towns, the station areas have <a href="http://static.panoramio.com/photos/original/7208829.jpg">enough space for improvements</a>.</p>
<p><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Szeged">Szeged</a> (population 170 000) is a logical terminus for services. The proposed <a href="http://infrastruct.wordpress.com/2008/06/07/high-speed-line-budapest-novi-sad-beograd/">high-speed line Budapest &#8211; Timişoara</a> would become the main route through the city, serving a new station on the western edge. Trains from the west, via an <a href="http://infrastruct.wordpress.com/2009/12/10/upgraded-line-baja-subotica-szeged/">upgraded line Baja &#8211; Subotica &#8211; Szeged</a> would pass through the new station (shown in purple), and then terminate at the existing <a href="http://www.vasutallomasok.hu/allomas.php?az=szeg">Szeged station</a>. Some of these trains would come from Pécs or further east, via the proposed <a href="http://infrastruct.wordpress.com/2009/07/04/high-speed-line-pecs-szekszard-baja/">HSL Pécs &#8211; Baja</a>.</p>

<p>In the same way, trains to Békéscsaba would leave from the existing station in the city centre, and then make a loop via the HSL station, and a northern station (<a href="http://www.vasutallomasok.hu/allomas.php?az=szer">Szeged-Rókus</a>, on the main Budapest road). This is the present alignment, but the HSL station would be new, allowing cross-platform interchange with trains to Budapest. There would be one other station before the Tisza, at <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Algyő">Algyő</a> (population 5000).</p>

<p>At the river Tisza, the line has a double curve, to cross the river at right angles. Since the single-track bridge must be replaced, it can be realigned, with easier approach curves. 12 km from the Tisza, and 31 km from Szeged, is <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hódmezővásárhely">Hódmezővásárhely</a>, with 47 000 inhabitants the largest town before Békéscsaba. It would retain its western station at <a href="http://www.vasutallomasok.hu/allomas.php?az=hodn">Hódmezővásárhelyi Népkert</a>, at the junction with the line from Csongrád and Szentes.</p>

<p>The only other town on the Békéscsaba line is <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orosháza">Orosháza</a> (population 30 000), 62 km from Szeged. It is a secondary rail junction, served by three rural lines (present Hungarian policy is to close all rural lines). The village of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Székkutas">Székkutas</a>, between the two towns, has 2600 inhabitants, just enough to justify its station. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Csorvás">Csorvás</a>, population 6000, east of Orosháza, would certainly keep its station. The village of Telekgerendás has only 1600 inhabitants, but it is a compact settlement with a <a href="http://www.vasutallomasok.hu/allomas.php?az=tele">real station</a>, so retention might be justified.</p>
<p>That gives 7 intermediate stops: 3 in the two towns, and 4 village stations. The rural halts, some in open country, would be closed.</p>
<p><a href="http://infrastruct.wordpress.com/files/2009/12/bekescsaba.jpg"><img src="http://infrastruct.wordpress.com/files/2009/12/bekescsaba.jpg" alt="" title="bekescsaba" width="700" height="616" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-2756" /></a></p>
<p><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Békéscsaba">Békéscsaba</a> (population 65 000), is the capital of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Békés_County">Békés County</a> (377 000). It is on the main line from Budapest, to Arad and Timişoara, and on to București (Bucharest). The line from Szeged curves south-east into the station, which is <a href="http://www.vasutallomasok.hu/allomas.php?az=bkcs">large but basic</a>, and needs reconstruction.</p>
<p>Only the section Szeged &#8211; Békéscsaba is described here, but it would carry through services to Oradea and beyond. Logically, the fastest services would run non-stop from the HSL station at Szeged (about 93 km): the intermediate towns are too small for a stop. The line should be upgraded sufficiently, to allow a 40-minute journey time.</p>

<title><![CDATA[Regional line Szeged - Bečej - Novi Sad]]></title>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>This regional rail line would link Szeged to Novi Sad, following the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tisza">river Tisza</a> for about two-thirds of the route. Proposed is a double-track electric regional line, using existing rail alignments (most of them now closed for traffic), with new sections to shorten the route. It would connect to several other proposed lines, new and upgraded. The line runs through the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bačka">Bačka region</a>. The old lines were built when the area was united under the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Szeged is now in Hungary, the rest of this route is in the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vojvodina">Vojvodina region</a> of Serbia.</p>
<p><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Szeged">Szeged</a> is a regional city with 170 000 inhabitants, cut off from the region by the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Trianon">1920 borders</a>. (All proposals here ignore the borders). At Szeged, the inter-regional line would connect to the proposed <a href="http://infrastruct.wordpress.com/2008/06/07/high-speed-line-budapest-novi-sad-beograd/">high-speed line from Budapest</a> via Kecskemét, and to the proposed <a href="http://infrastruct.wordpress.com/2009/12/17/upgraded-szeged-bekescsaba-rail-line/">upgraded line to Békéscsaba</a>. Near Szeged, it would share track with the <a href="http://infrastruct.wordpress.com/2009/12/10/upgraded-line-baja-subotica-szeged/">upgraded line Baja &#8211; Subotica &#8211; Szeged</a>. Trains would start from the existing Szeged station, and pass through the new station (on the HSL route from Budapest).</p>

<p>The line out of Szeged is at present an isolated local line, Hungarian <a href="http://www.vasutallomasok.hu/von.php?num=136">line 136</a> to Röszke. Originally it continued to Subotica. The line to Senta diverges at <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horgoš">Horgoš</a>, across the border in Serbia. It was <a href="http://pfaffrail.googlepages.com/ExYUPruge.doc">built in 1889</a>: the section Horgoš &#8211; Kanjiža is still in use. A new cut-off line from Röszke would shorten the route, but it would run alongside former channels of the Tisza, and might be liable to flooding. The line is shown on the map in red: it would rejoin the old alignment, at the village of Martonoš (population 2100).</p>
<p>From Martonoš station the line runs straight to <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kanjiža">Kanjiža</a> (Kanizsa or Magyarkanizsa in Hungarian). This is a small town with 10 000 inhabitants, 27 000 in the municipality.</p>
<p>From Kanjiža to Senta, the alignment again diverts around the former Tisza channels, inside the river dike (like the Deventer &#8211; Zwolle line in the Netherlands). Another cut-off is possible here (purple dotted line), depending on the flood threat.</p>

<p>4 km west of Senta station, at Gornji Breg, the line joins the line from Subotica, the proposed <a href="http://infrastruct.wordpress.com/2009/12/12/inter-regional-line-subotica-kikinda-via-senta/">fast inter-regional line Subotica &#8211; Kikinda</a>. On a double-track line, joint use by regional services for 4 km should not be a problem, but the junction must be reconstructed. With a population of 1900, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gornji_Breg_(Senta)">Gornji Breg</a> is large enough to justify a station on the regional line, but not on the inter-regional line.</p>
<p>At <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Senta">Senta</a> (Zenta in Hungarian, population 20 000) trains would connect with fast trains to Kikinda, and also with local services to Čoka and along the east bank of the Tisza.</p>

<p>South of Senta, the line would use the old alignment to Bečej, outlined in orange. The alignment is <a href="http://www.panoramio.com/photo/5474794">abandoned but available</a>. There would be stations at the villages of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ada_(Serbia)">Ada</a> (population 10 500) and Mol (7000), which have almost coalesced. There is one more station before Bečej, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bačko_Petrovo_Selo">Bačko Petrovo Selo</a> (in Hungarian Péterréve, population 7000).</p>

<p><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bečej">Bečej</a> itself is the largest town on the route, with 26 000 inhabitants, 41 000 in the municipality (that includes Bačko Petrovo Selo). The station was built on the western edge, although the town has expanded since then: the streets run toward the river (on the image, north is at the left).</p>
<p>South of the station, the line splits: one line runs to Vrbas, the other to Novi Sad via a winding route, 65 km long via Žabalj. The regional line would take a more direct route to Novi Sad, parallel to the regional road R120.</p>

<p>It would first follow the old line out of Bečej. 10 km south of the town, the line crosses the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danube-Tisa-Danube_Canal">Danube &#8211; Tisza &#8211; Danube (DTD) Canal</a>. Here, a new 19-km cut-off line to Temerin would begin.</p>
<p><a href="http://infrastruct.wordpress.com/files/2009/12/jarak-line.jpg"><img src="http://infrastruct.wordpress.com/files/2009/12/jarak-line.jpg?w=140" alt="" title="jarak-line" width="140" height="300" class="alignright size-medium wp-image-2741" /></a>It would run straight across open country, and then pass the eastern edge of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temerin">Temerin</a>, to rejoin the old line. This is an elongated town, with 19 000 inhabitants (municipality 28 000): the existing line passes through its southern half. There would be a new station on the eastern edge of town: the existing station would be retained. A short tunnel may be needed to approach it: the rail line crosses the main road.</p>
<p>After Temerin, the existing line runs south-southwest, with a station at the village of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bački_Jarak">Bački Jarak</a> (population 6000). About 4 km south of this station, the line would diverge onto the last section of new infrastructure, into Novi Sad.</p>
<p>The new alignment would run through undeveloped areas, crossing the E75 motorway, to join Highway 7. It would run along the south side of this road, crossing the DTD Canal, and then reach the existing rail line via a short link (with some limited demolition). The main station is about 1 km further. The new section would be about 8 km long, forming a north-western exit line from Novi Sad. (This could also be used for a new line to Zrenjanin via Žabalj, parallel to Highway 7).</p>
<p><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novi_Sad">Novi Sad</a>, the capital of Vojvodina, has a population of 305 000. The main station has <a href="http://static.panoramio.com/photos/original/25500654.jpg">enough room for expansion</a> to cope with new traffic over new lines. From the station, the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bulevar">main boulevard (Bulevar Oslobedjenja)</a> leads to the city centre and the Danube.</p>

<p>The line would carry a regional service with a frequency of 20-30 minutes. It would have 13 intermediate stations. Assuming a Horgoš cut-off, the line would be 132 km long, with a station spacing of about 10  km. </p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>This line was already mentioned briefly in the context of the proposed <a href="http://infrastruct.wordpress.com/2009/06/17/high-speed-line-budapest-szekszard-novi-sad/">high-speed line from Budapest to Novi Sad via Szekszárd</a> and the associated project for a <a href="http://infrastruct.wordpress.com/2009/07/04/high-speed-line-pecs-szekszard-baja/">HSL Pécs &#8211; Baja</a>. Upgrading would allow trains from Pécs to continue toward Szeged.</p>
<p><a href="http://infrastruct.wordpress.com/files/2008/06/linescut.jpg"><img src="http://infrastruct.wordpress.com/files/2008/06/linescut.jpg?w=300" alt="" title="linescut" width="300" height="214" class="alignright size-medium wp-image-97" /></a>The line is described here, in the context of a <a href="http://infrastruct.wordpress.com/2009/12/22/lines-around-subotica-and-szeged/">list of rail proposals around Subotica and Szeged</a>. Most of the rail network in the region was built under the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and many lines were cut when it was <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Trianon">broken up after the First World War</a>. Although Baja and Szeged are both in Hungary, the rail line between them crosses into the Vojvodina region of Serbia. The border is currently the external boundary of the European Union, and of the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schengen_Area">Schengen Zone</a>. All proposals here ignore the borders.</p>
<p><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baja,_Hungary">Baja</a> would be an important interchange station, on construction of the <a href="http://infrastruct.wordpress.com/2009/06/17/high-speed-line-budapest-szekszard-novi-sad/">second HSL from Budapest to Novi Sad </a>. It is not however a large city, with population of 38 000 (district total 75 0000). Besides high-speed services, the upgraded line toward Szeged would have a regional function.</p>
<p>The line Baja &#8211; Subotica is shown below, on the <a href="http://lazarus.elte.hu/hun/digkonyv/topo/3felmeres.htm">Austro-Hungarian military map of 1910</a>, without the 1918 borders. (Click to enlarge, the map is detailed). The section to Bácsalmás is still in use as Hungarian line <a href="http://www.vasutallomasok.hu/vonkep.php?num=154">154</a>. The line is 60 km long.</p>

<p>The line would be upgraded to the standards of the German <a href="http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ausbaustrecke">Ausbaustrecken</a>. The line consists of straight sections, with a few curves at stations. It climbs 40 m to Csikéria, and drops 20 m into Subotica (Szabadka in Hungarian), so the average gradient would be about 1 / 1000. The only villages large enough to justify a station are <a href="http://hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bácsbokod">Bácsbokod</a> (population 2800), and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bácsalmás">Bácsalmás</a> (7200). In Subotica itself, a suburban station on the main northern road (Karadjordjev put) would be logical. The main station of Subotica is 500 m east of the city centre.</p>
<p><a href="http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subotica">Subotica</a> (100 000 inhabitants, municipality 148 000) is a regional centre, on the existing main line Budapest &#8211; Beograd (Kelebia line). The proposed <a href="http://infrastruct.wordpress.com/2008/06/07/high-speed-line-budapest-novi-sad-beograd/">HSL from Budapest</a> would replace the Kelebia line north of Subotica, leaving it as an inter-regional route. There would be interchange with the line to Sombor, and another <a href="http://infrastruct.wordpress.com/2009/12/12/inter-regional-line-subotica-kikinda-via-senta/">inter-regional route to Kikinda</a>, with a new line from Senta. Six lines would then converge on Subotica.</p>
<p>Trains from Baja would continue from Subotica to Szeged: this line would also be upgraded as a double-track <em>Ausbaustrecke</em>. The line is shown on the two 1910 maps below: it was 41 km long, including 13 km of the present Hungarian line <a href="http://www.vasutallomasok.hu/von.php?num=136">line 136</a>. It is also almost straight, with minimal gradients.</p>

<p>There would be stations at the lake resort of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palić">Palić</a> (population 8000), at <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horgoš">Horgoš</a> (6000), at <a href="http://hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Röszke">Röszke</a> (3000), and at Szentmihálytelek (part of Szeged municipality).</p>
<p>Trains would use an existing curve, into a a new station on the proposed <a href="http://infrastruct.wordpress.com/2008/06/07/high-speed-line-budapest-novi-sad-beograd/">HSL Budapest &#8211; Timişoara</a>. They would then use the existing line into <a href="http://www.vasutallomasok.hu/allomas.php?az=szeg">Szeged station</a>.</p>
<p><a href="http://infrastruct.wordpress.com/files/2008/06/szeged-newbridge.jpg"><img src="http://infrastruct.wordpress.com/files/2008/06/szeged-newbridge.jpg" alt="" title="szeged-newbridge" width="700" height="686" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-2698" /></a></p>
<p><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Szeged">Szeged</a> is the main centre of the region, with 170 000 inhabitants. Via a new bridge over the river Tisza (line in blue), the HSL would connect to the old alignment to Kikinda, and on to Timişoara. The new station (in red) is on the outskirts of Szeged, on the main road to Subotica &#8211; the HSL would run alongside the existing line from Kecskemét. There would be interchange with an <a href="http://infrastruct.wordpress.com/2009/12/17/upgraded-szeged-bekescsaba-rail-line/">upgraded line to Békéscsaba</a>, with a <a href="http://infrastruct.wordpress.com/2009/12/20/regional-line-szeged-mako-arad/">regional line to Arad  via Makó</a>, and with a <a href="http://infrastruct.wordpress.com/2009/12/22/szeged-lovrin-timisoara/Szeged - Lovrin - Timişoara">restored regional line to Timişoara</a>. The line <a href="http://infrastruct.wordpress.com/2009/12/15/regional-line-szeged-becej-novi-sad/">south along the Tisza / Tiza toward Bečej via Kanjiža</a>, would also be re-opened: more on these lines later.</p>
<p>The flat plains and the straight alignments would allow high speeds on upgraded lines. With a station spacing of about 12 km for regional trains, a Baja &#8211; Szeged journey time of around an hour is feasible.</p>

<p>And that is my excuse.  The weather&#8211; for the week off of Budajest&#8211;that is.  And even now, I really don&#8217;t have much of a post.  Just some pictures.  Thanksgiving.  A few Christmas markets in Szeged and here, today, in Budapest.  The fall was rainy and foggy and ugly.  But so far, the winter has been mild and almost lovely, in the gray way.  We bought a new car.  A beautiful Audi A6 we named Hugo.  And we have a new vacation house in Szeged, which is part of a little Communist bloc of flats/cold-war bungalow.  I&#8217;m reading Tim Weiner&#8217;s absolutely phenomenal book, <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Legacy-Ashes-History-Tim-Weiner/dp/038551445X">&#8220;Legacy of Ashes&#8221;</a> and the equally incredible <a href="http://richarddawkins.net/godDelusion">&#8220;The God Delusion&#8221;</a> by Richard Dawkins, for the second time.  I&#8217;m writing full time, which is also a wonderful feeling.  And I&#8217;m not too far away from Budapest and thoughts on my posts.  So here are some pictures, in the interim:</p>

<p>The Szeged Christmas fair was soooo crowded.  I never knew that the lighting of an GIANT advent candle would bring so many people out, but I think that just about everyone in Szeged was at the fair last Sunday.  And of course, Barnabas wanted to be dressed to the nines.</p>

<p>I&#8217;m not sure if he liked blue more than red, but I have to admit that Barnabas is probably the most tolerant dog in Europe.  We had several hot wines, at home and at fair.  All fabulous.</p>

<p>And of course we had to get the new Super Mario Brothers for Wii.  This is the best, classic version of Super Mario.  Like&#8230;THE&#8230;Super Mario Bros.  I know you nerds out there know why this is a special release this month!  And while I played, in classic style, Gyorgyi made gingerbread cookies for Christmas decoration.  My favorite:  the moose.  Or is it the whale?</p>

<p>The Budapest Christmas fair was crowded and wonderful.  People out buying folk art, listening to music, drinking hot wine, eating kolbasz and potatoes.  A real regional celebration.</p>

<p>And at the heart of it all, a little guy holding his tiny left hand to Santa.  Timid.  When he turned around his face was illuminated.  He wanted to confirm with his mom that she had seen that he.had.talked.to.Santa!!.  Tomorrow is Santa day.  He fills up shoes with candies and presents.  I don&#8217;t really understand this tradition.  But I know it&#8217;s part of the magic of the season.  And I leave it feeling magical too.</p>

<p>Ugye Szeged. Ott tanulok, a 2. otthonom. Mint tudjuk Szeged többek közt egyetemi város, így tudományegyetem is található itt. Ráadásul holnap lesz az összevont nyílt nap a TIK-ben (egy nagy modern könyvtár, amúgy sokkal több:). Egész napos elfoglaltság lesz. 10-től kezdődnek a tájékoztatók, de mi már fél 9-re megyünk, mert körbevezetnek.:P Na jöjjön a fekete leves.</p>
<p>Van egy olyan gyöngyszem, hogy <a href="http://www.arts.u-szeged.hu/bemutatkozas.html#kepzes" target="_blank">Bölcsészettudomáyi kar </a>. Ez még így semmit sem mond. DE! Ennek a karnak van valamije&#8230;már sejthetitek. Igen. Neki van anglisztika/amerikanisztika szaka. Fáj érte a szívem&#8230;jókor már. XD Nem baj, meghallgatjuk, stb. Ismerem már annyira magam, hogy amíg nem mondják a pofámba hogy &#8220;nem&#8221;, vagy hogy &#8220;kevés&#8221;, addig nem nyugszom meg. Így holnap 11-től a TIK kongresszusi termében fogok ülni és sóvárogni.:D Előtte persze ugyanebben az előadóteremben lesz az Informatikai kar ismertetője. Természetesen azt is meghallgatom annak ellenére hogy matekból egy rakás híg halmazállapotú &#8220;valami&#8221; vagyok.</p>
<p>Egyébként már csak a hely szelleme miatt is megéri elmenni. I have a very good feeling.:P Amúgy lesznek standok is, meg minden. Első utam oda vezet majd&#8230;gondolom rengetegen lesznek.</p>
<p>A lényeg: Most megint bezsongtam emiatt a továbbtanulási mizéria miatt, holott tisztán látom hogy semmi esélyem. Meg persze semmi kitartásom. Így pedig ezt nem lehet.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Pár nap óta akkora köd van itt is- mint az egész országban-, hogy az orromig nem látok. Ezt vegyétek szó szerint. Ráadásul ugye tegnap úgy adódott -mint minden pénteken-, hogy mennem kellett vissza angolra. Na kezdjük.</p>
<p><strong>Hering party: </strong></p>
<p>Mint ismeretes, a magyar tömegközlekedési szokások/technikai adottságok nincsenek a topon. Bár itt Szeged környékén nem sűrűn van ok a panaszra. Tegnap történt ugyanis, hogy a fél 2-es busszal jöttem volna haza, de a drága 52-kor jött. Ami alapjában véve nem lett volna baj, mert egy ismerősömmel eldumáltunk. A bökkenő ott kezdődik, hogy nekem 4-re vissza kellett volna érnem Szegedre, mert akkor kezdődik a külön angol órám. Ahhoz hogy visszaérjek, a fél 3-as busszal el kell indulnom itthonról. Követhető még?:) Ehelyett 14:27-kor szálltam le itthon a buszról. Gondolom nem is kell mondanom, hogy 3 perc alatt nem érek haza, majd vissza. Ja meg persze kajálni is kellett volna, meg az angol cuccot összeszedni.</p>
<p>Ugye 52-kor jött a busz. Egy nagyon hosszú, 3 ajtós modernnek mondható. Én az utolsó ajtó legalsó lépcsőfokára tudtam magam felpréselni. Szó szerint felpréselni. Hogy teljes legyen a kép, ennek a busznak a hátsó ajtaja időnként nem csukódik be rendesen. Kapaszkodtam mint az állat. Közben <span style="text-decoration:line-through;">aszaltunk egész úton, mint két idióta</span> beszélgettünk&#8230;már amikor nem volt a fél fejem a kukában és a mellettem álló kapucnijának a szőrméje nem a számban volt. Ezt is szó szerint kell érteni. XD Ez így ment egy szűk óráig. Közben hívtam Nórit, hogy az angolt nem lehetne-e 4 helyett 5-kor kezdeni. Szerencsére el tudta intézni. Közben kérdezte a telóban hogy miért késett a busz és hogy miért vannak ennyien. Annyit mondtam, hogy (idézek magamtól:):</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;Nem tudom, talán mert Magyarországon vagyunk.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>Nem enyhén mindenki odanézett. Sajnálom, ez van. XD Ilyen hering partyban még nem volt részem. Ez se kellett volna.</p>
<p><strong>Angol: </strong></p>
<p>Na kérem szépen. Kikaptuk az angol fogalmazást. Csak 3 hiba volt benne. Még egyszer hálás köszönet Tinkmarának a javításért!!!:P</p>
<p>Ezek voltak: &#8220;ten-year<strong>s</strong>-old&#8221;&#8212;-&#62;&#8221;ten-year-old&#8221;; ugyanebben a mondatban kimaradt egy &#8220;got&#8221; a have után; és az &#8220;elementary student&#8221;-be belerakta hogy school. Ennyi.:)</p>
<p>Azt mondta hogy a javított verziót másoljuk be a füzetbe&#8230;biztos nem fogom emiatt újraírni ezt a 1,5 oldalas szöveget.</p>
<p>Emellett órán csináltunk egy érettségi feladatsorból kiszedett nyelvhelyességi feladatot. Adott szövegből hiányoznak bizonyos szavak. Írj be olyanokat, hogy értelmes legyen a szöveg. 10-ből 7 jó lett. A többi olyan szerkezet volt, amiről még nem is hallottam. Szerintem nem olyan rossz.:D</p>
<p>A külön angol órákat nehezen kezdtük el, nagyon nem volt kedvünk hozzá, de aztán nagyon jól sikerült. Jól esett.:P</p>
<p>Most látom hogy már a köd is felszállt, a nap is süt. Lehet(ne) takarítani, de ilyen hideg időben sosincs kedvem.</p>
<p><strong>Más: </strong></p>
<p>Hmmm, ha láttátok volna tegnap, hogy milyen szép amikor a ködön átszűrődnek a város fényei!:P:P Annyi képem csináltam volna&#8230;de mivel? XD Kéne már egy fényképező.</p>

A három éve elhunyt Puskás Öcsi minden idők legjobb labdarúgója volt. Magyarországon mindenképpen, de amióta feltalálták a futballt, a nagyvilágban is csak kevesen tudtak úgy bánni a labdával, mint ő. A zöld gyep volt az ő igazi világa, de embersége, segítőkészsége miatt legalább annyi tisztelője akadt, mint szurkolója. Nem véletlenül érdemelte ki a legismertebb magyar titulust.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">A „száguldó őrnagyot&#8221; Szegeden is rengetegen szerették, ennek egyik megnyilvánulási formája a tiszteletére adott szentmise. A világverő Aranycsapat élő tagjai, Buzánszky Jenő (a felesége betegeskedik) és Grosics Gyula (egészségi állapota nem tette lehetővé az utazást) nem lehettek itt a tegnapi szegedi megemlékezésen, eljött viszont özvegye, Bözsi néni, valamint a legendás rádiós sportriporter, Szepesi György, aki mikrofonnal a kezében az Aranycsapat 12. játékosának számított.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">– Hálát adok istennek, hogy abban a korban élhettem, amikor ezek a csodálatos focitudással megáldott fiúk – mondta Gyuri bácsi a Roosevelt téri halászcsárdában történt beszélgetésen. – A szerencse fiának tartom magam, hogy egy kivételével az Aranycsapat összes meccsét közvetíthettem.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Arra a kérdésre, előfordult-e, hogy kritizálta a játékosokat, a következőt válaszolta:<br />
– Egyszer azt mondta nekem Öcsi: „Gyurikám, azt mondasz a mikrofonba, amit akarsz, egyrészt úgysem halljuk, másrészt meg ha rossz színben tüntetsz fel bennünket, úgysem merik azt nekünk visszamondani.&#8221; Félretéve a viccet, ugyan miért kritizáltam volna egy olyan csapatot, amely 31 válogatott-mérkőzésen maradt veretlen, ebből 25-öt megnyert, és csak hatszor ikszelt?</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Puskás Ferenc özvegye természetesen nagyon büszke férjére.<br />
– Akármerre járok, Öcsi miatt mindenhol nagy szeretettel, tisztelettel fogadnak – nyilatkozta lapunknak Bözsi néni. – 1950-ben házasodtunk össze, három évvel ezelőtti haláláig nagy szeretetben, egyetértésben éltünk. Külön boldogsággal tölt el, hogy a FIFA az év legszebb góljának szerzőjét ezentúl minden esztendőben Puskás-díjjal jutalmazza.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>J&#8217;aime ces gars, j&#8217;adore discuter avec eux, ils sont vraiment intelligents et amusants.. cette excursion n&#8217;était pas la meilleure, n&#8217;avait aucun sens en fait sans Kara et les mecs mais je me sens plus assurée comme ça. On a été assise en cinq tout au fond dans le bus.. Reni a été en retard et je voulais qu&#8217;elle s&#8217;assoie à côté de nous pour que Gabi ne puisse pas la voler.. j&#8217;avais terriblement mal au dos mais on a discuté ensemble et ça valait la peine. C&#8217;est un vrai succès que je pouvais éviter qu&#8217;elles s&#8217;en aillent de nous.. mais si sur la grande surface j&#8217;ai proposé à Sipi de nous en aller. Vous savez, je voulais acheter des choses et elles aussi mais Gabi est un autre monde, on aime les mêmes choses mais d&#8217;une façon différente et j&#8217;étais condamnée à accompagner Sipi. Ce mot est si cruel, pourtant c&#8217;était pas terrible du tout, Sipi est une femme, elle aussi.<br />
Au retour et dans le théâtre, j&#8217;ai réfléchi. J&#8217;ai pas de compagnon dans la classe, tout le monde est si différent.. ils rient toujours, même si quand je reste sereine, je sais pas bien m&#8217;amuser avec eux, c&#8217;est pas ma vraie compagnie&#8230; et c&#8217;est vraiment triste.<br />
Pour que je consigne l&#8217;événement le plus marrant de la journée.. on a dû joindre les autres à deux heures quarante-cinq, mais on n&#8217;a pas trouvé le bon chemin.. on était perdues. On a interrogé plusieurs personnes (parmi eux il y avait des touristes anglais aussi xD), une vieillie a parlé de la façon szegedois.. avec des e au lieu des è, c&#8217;était bizarre. <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' />  Et on a trouvé un théâtre.. mais le mauvais.. on était vraiment désespérées jusqu&#8217;au moment où on est arrivées à téléphoner Mme. Illés qui nous a expliqué le chemin .. et on n&#8217;a pas gâté la pièce. Je l&#8217;aimais.<br />
D&#8217;ailleurs j&#8217;adore que je suis la seule qui n&#8217;a pas le droit d&#8217;ajouter quelques mots au sujet &#8216;langues&#8217; où je suis la seule qui parle n&#8217;importe quelle langue vraiment bien&#8230; mais j&#8217;y suis déjà habituée.. ça m&#8217;est égal, je suis appris à me taire ici.<br />
Et pourtant je serai contente de les revoir parc que c&#8217;est la dernière grande compagnie dans ma vie dont laquelle je suis le membre important.<br />
Et j&#8217;ai acheté des bottes marronnes aux talons petits avec un grand bouton en cuir (artificiel), je les aime. Je pense que j&#8217;ai pas besoin d&#8217;autres bottes. J&#8217;adore tellement les chaussures.. </p>

<title><![CDATA[Medicenter Szeged]]></title>

<description><![CDATA[Before I left America for Hungary, just about everyone I talked to had a cautionary tale of horror r]]></description>
<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Before I left America for Hungary, just about everyone I talked to had a cautionary tale of horror related to the Central/Eastern European medical experience.  None, of course, had ever had any Central/Eastern European medical experiences, but everyone has an uncle, who has a friend who has a friend…  And the friend is always missing an eye now, because of it.  Even on ex-pat websites in Hungary, these socialized systems are easy to make fun of, at the expense of  hard-working professionals who are sometimes on the bad side of a difficult-to-maneuver system.</p>
<p>Ever since arriving in Hungary, I’ve had a completely opposite experience.  A kind and intelligent private doctor who has given me quick access to my allergy medication and an anti-biotic for my awful strep throat last year.  And just recently, a trip to a private clinic for a complete physical workup, with procedures that I would never have gotten, nor have been able to ever afford, in America.  Full disclose:  where I went was a private clinic.  So you pay for it out of pocket, and it is not part of the free, socialized health care system.  And of course no, not everyone can afford it. But in this lovely clinic staffed by perhaps some of the finest doctors in Hungary, the entire of the procedures (including consultations, blood work, ultra sounds, physical analyses, vaccinations, and other procedures that I’m having a hard time even remembering from that day) was around 300 dollars.  I’ll wait here for a second, Internet, until you get back into your chair.</p>

<p>I don’t know what Szilvi eats in the morning, or what she puts in her coffee, but I desperately need to get my hands on some of it.  When we arrived in Szeged at the Medicenter, she was standing in the lobby and ready to immediately take us to the first doctor.  She was smartly dressed and kind of sassy and I felt like I had my own personal attaché for my physical, even though she seemingly was helping everyone around in this way.  In addition, when the day was almost over, and because I couldn’t eat for my stomach ultrasound, she went out and bought me a little spread of sweet and savory biscuits, which she put on a plate in the little lounge for me.  It was the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me at a doctor’s office.  Anyway, I never personally address people on this blog, but honestly, thank you Szilvi, you made my day totally easy and manageable, and I can say that my experience at your clinic was truly the best medical care that I’ve ever received.</p>
<p>In the morning I received two vaccinations for H1N1 and the regular flu shot.  It took about five minutes and was administered by the vaccination doctor.  After the vaccinations I went right downstairs to have my blood drawn by Dr. Kóczián Zsófia, who both did the drawing and analyzed it for me that day, so that when I had my other consultations in the evening, the blood work was ready.</p>
<p>At about 10:30, I left the Medicenter building and went across town to the public clinic so that I could get chest x-rays there.  And let me tell you about the HORRORS of the public, socialized public health care clinic… I waited in the waiting room for about 8 minutes, was called into the x-ray room, the nurse said two words “bra off”, the x-ray was taken, processed, and we were out of there in about 20 minutes.  Yes, I see now what these Republicans (and Lieberman) want us to fear.  TWENTY MINUTES.</p>
<p>Then it was time for a little early lunch.  All of my fears about the whole thing, I realized at this point, were really unfounded, and it made the rest of the day much more eye opening.  I wish I had taken pictures of the doctors, but you know, after you get a pap your first instinct isn&#8217;t to whip out your camera for a candid.</p>

<p>When I got back to Medicenter, I had another round of consultations and procedures.  The first was with Dr. Halmai László who is the Cardiologist.  We chatted for a little bit, he did a few exams and went over what he saw in my EKG and my blood work.  Then he did an ultrasound on me to look at my heart, all the while asking me some questions about my writing life and telling me about a friend he met from America who also teaches writing.  He was so friendly and knowledgeable and I really felt at ease.</p>
<p>Then I was sent to the next room to see Dr. Vass Gábor, the ear, nose, and throat doc. We talked about a few of my allergy problems, he did a thorough exam, told me to stop using Q-tips because they’re bad for me, killed a little ear wax, and told me that my septum was a little deviated.  Tennis injury!  Again, like all of the doctors that I met that day, he was friendly, chatty, and knowledgeable.</p>
<p>Back to the ultrasound room to meet with Dr. Hoffmann Csilla.  I had met Dr. Hoffmann the previous week because she did a breast ultrasound on me.  This day, however, she did my stomach ultrasound to check my internal organs and such.  Her secondary language is French, but she spoke English quite well.  I only needed Györgyi to translate one time after Dr. Hoffman said that I had sand in my kidney and I immediately thought about the big wave that knocked me down two years ago in Hilton Head.  Of course what she meant was just some buildup in my kidney that I needed to wash out and prevent from becoming a kidney stone.  Anyway Dr. Hoffman was awesome.  She was especially calming the week before and I really appreciated it.  She also told me I don’t have to give up coffee, so she’s totally rad in my book now.</p>
<p>One last exam before my final consultation:  Gyno! Dr. Nyirati Ildikó is the Gynecologist and she did the usual exam plus an ultrasound. She said I had nice ovaries, so I was really feeling good about myself at that point.  I looked at them too, on the ultrasound.  I’ve never seen the inside of my body except the pictures of my knee surgery that made me vomit.  But the inside is such a wonderland, isn’t it?  Anyway Dr. Nyirati was so friendly and soft spoken and gentle, which of course are fabulous traits to have as a doctor, but especially a Gynecologist.</p>
<p>The final consultation of the day was with the surgeon Dr. Szabó István.  He was the cutest thing since sliced kolacs, seriously.  His job was to go over all of my results for the day, and then he did a few additional tests to check my veins and everything.  He really made me feel at east and comfortable and told me practical, understandable things about health and the body and everything.</p>
<p>The morning procedures lasted about 1 hour, including two tests and one chest x-ray at a different location.  The afternoon tests, procedures, and consultations, lasted a total of about 2 ½ hours.  All of the doctors were absolute experts in their fields, spoke English well, and didn’t make me feel like I was wasting their time or that they had other patients they wanted to shuffle me past to see.  Some of the doctors even came in especially for these consultations, on their days off.  And why?  Well I can tell you one thing, it’s not because they’re making the big bucks.  It does seem, however, that they actually care about taking care of people.  And the nurses too, were incredibly kind.  The nurses who, by the way, are going on strike this week, because they only make 90,000 HUF per month.  That is insultingly low money (about 450 dollars).</p>
<p>I’m not trying to make any political statement here or get people up in arms about the American health care system.  The people who read this blog, for the most part, are like-minded people on this issue.  The only ones who are significantly out of touch with reality seems to be the tea-bagging conservatives who use fear scare tactics about &#8220;Comrade&#8221; Obama’s health care system, with the reality is much different.  But this post doesn’t really have to do with any of that.  All it will serve as, hopefully, is a counter argument to your uncle’s friend&#8217;s friend who is missing an eye from a medical procedure in Eastern Europe.</p>
<p>And a nagyon nagyon köszönöm szépen, for all of the doctors and staff members of Medicenter who gave me excellent medical care and treated me with respect while doing it.</p>

Mon cher Gàbor a fait ses jérémiades à cause du fichu chien durant des semaines. Il va en recevoir un enfin, on a visité en septembre une famille et six petits retrievers et il ne restait qu&#8217;un et le prix est diminué maintenant, le père de Gàbor a permis l&#8217;achat&#8230; résultat: petit chien à Gàbor.</p>
<p>La mère de Gàbor a trouvé un excellent faculté à l&#8217;université scientifique de Szeged, Gàbor va avoir  une pension formidable grâce à ses frères, Szeged est près de Baja, les transport publics sont gratuits pour les étudiants.. tout est magnifique sauf que j&#8217;envisage mes études à Budapest et à l&#8217;université Semmelweis depuis que je vis et sauf que je déteste cette fichue ville plate où l&#8217;eau coulante est chaud (à cause des sources chaudes qui se trouvent au dessous de la ville). Il n&#8217;y a pas de Tibor Donàth là-bas, il n&#8217;y a que Istvàn Pàlfy.. bien que ce soit formidable à mon chéri.. les hommes mentionnés sont des experts connus en Hongrie, M. Donàth en anatomie, M. Pàlfy en français.. il a écrit les meilleurs dicos. Bien, il y a un institut d&#8217;anatomie éminent à Szeged aussi mais quand même.. je vais pas recevoir de bourse pour aller en France.. Gàbor va en avoir un à Lorraine.. Lorraine.. où ailleurs.. </p>
<p>Pourquoi je sens que l&#8217;université va tuer notre vie commune? Pourquoi je sens qu&#8217;il m&#8217;empêche de réaliser mes rêves, pourquoi je sens qu&#8217;il est égoïste? Pourquoi je sens qu&#8217;il ne s&#8217;occupe pas de moi, pourquoi c&#8217;est que moi qui doit se sacrifier? Bien, j&#8217;irai à Szeged, que la Terre tourne autour de Gàbor, mais je sature lentement que tout dépend de lui et rien de moi..<br />
Peut-être c&#8217;est mon destin.. faire des sacrifices.. et je suis capable, je dis, selon mon religion: humilité, servilité, soumission.. et on va au Paradis. Un bon médecin doit posséder ses qualités, et je les possède, que personne dise quoi que ce soit.</p>
<p>Heureux les affligés car ils seront consolés.<br />
Si je suis triste, je retourne toujours à la religion, à ce que je crois, je dis que je veux aller à la messe et je ne le fais jamais, je parle à notre Seigneur, mais maintenant ça n&#8217;aide pas parce que le problème est entièrement humain.<br />
On parle de nos enfants, de notre vie future, on s&#8217;avoue qu&#8217;on ne veut jamais d&#8217;autre personne, est-ce que l&#8217;amour est éternel? C&#8217;est la question que je dois posée à moi-même au moment où je m&#8217;inscrirai à l&#8217;université. Quoique.. que ma vie soit toute aventureuse.. je pourrai me réinscrire, les matières, les livres sont les mêmes partout, je pourrai changer et m&#8217;enfuir. Est-ce que l&#8217;amour est éternel? Est-ce que cet amour va durer jusqu&#8217;à la vin du monde? Jusqu&#8217;à mourir? Vraiment? Est-ce que je vais survivre ces ans? Est-ce qu&#8217;il va faire des sacrifices n&#8217;importe quand dans notre avenir?</p>

<p>Halálos baleset történt Szentes és Derekegyház között szerda délelőtt, a rendőrség két órára lezárta az útszakaszt.<br />
Egy kisteherautóval ütközött frontálisan egy Saab típusú személyautó, amelyet egy ukrán állampolgár vezetett.  A Saab vezetője a helyszínen meghalt, a kisteherautó vezetőjét súlyos, életveszélyes sérülésekkel szállították kórházba.<br />

<p><strong>Magyar Nobel-díjasok emlékparkja lehet Szegeden</strong></p>
<p>Péter Szilveszter, az előterjesztést benyújtó fideszes képviselő elképzelése szerint a 13 magyar származású tudós munkásságát elismerő szobrok a Fekete ház melletti téren állnának.<br />
Az emlékpark megvalósítását &#8211; az ország nehéz gazdasági helyzete miatt- több évre elhúzódó programként tervezik.</p>

<p><strong>Általános iskolások csínytevése a battonyai románellenes provokáció</strong></p>
<p>Újabb ablakbetörésük után elfogták a battonyai románellenes cselekmények tetteseit. A fiúk, akik <em>Honvédelmi Csoport </em>aláírású papírlapot hagytak a helyszínen, szórakozásból törték be a románok lakta házak ablakait. A román sajtóban <em>&#8220;Magyar szélsőségesek románokra vadásznak&#8221;</em> és hasonló szalagcímekkel kommentálták a battonyai eseményeket.</p>

<p><strong>Elfogták a műlábtolvajt</strong></p>
<p>Keddre virradó éjszaka kiraboltak egy 83 éves tiszakécskei férfit. A tolvaj elvitte a bácsi lecsatolt művégtagját, benne 3 db aranyórával összesen kb. 1.000.000,-Ft. értékben. A rendőrök még aznap elfogták a lopással gyanúsított 29 éves helybéli fiatalembert.</p>

<p>Mezőtúron egy helybeli nő tett feljelentést a rendőrségen, akit elmondása szerint testvére és annak élettársa támadott meg a buszpályaudvar mögött: leteperték, és kitépték a füléből a fülbevalót.  A rendőrök elfogták az elkövetéssel alaposan gyanúsítható párt. A támadásban az áldozat nem sérült meg, viszont 70.000 forint kára keletkezett.<br />

<p><strong>Olaszliszka: egyezkedés a holttest mellett</strong></p>
<p>Debrecenben az olaszliszkai lincseléses gyilkosság tárgyalásán kiderült: az elkövető csoport tagjai az agyonvert tanár holtteste mellett egyezkedtek: ki mit valljon, ki vigy el a balhét. Van olyan család, amelynek öt tagja ül a vádlottak padján. A kommandósok által biztosított tárgyalóterembe tanúként megidézték azt a lányt, akit az agyonvert tanár a lincselés előtt elsodort kocsijával, ő azonban nem tett vallomást. Az igazságügyi szakértő elmondta, hogy az autó állt, amikor a sérülések keletkeztek rajta. A harmadik tárgyalási nap rendbontás nélkül, de sok indulattal zajlott.</p>

<p><em>Hogy tetszik önnek Szeged, van-e valamilyen kötődése a városhoz?</em></p>
<p>Nagyon tetszik, nagyon szeretem a várost. Elég sokat jártam ilyen önálló műsorokkal , de ami meghatározó emlék az életemben: a főiskola elvégzése után a Szent Iván-éji Álomban Bessenyei Ferenc oldalán itt játszottam a Földi Királynőt.<br />
<em><br />
Miért egy könyvtár lett a helyszíne az előadásnak? Milyen helyeket szokott választani?</em></p>
<p>Megmondom őszintén, hogy én nem választok, engem választanak. Általában mondjuk ha az ember egy ilyen gyönyörű könyvtárba jön, az egy nagyszerű dolog,  mert nagyon szeretem a könyveket, szóval nekem az egy élmény, amikor egy könyvet  a kezembe foghatok. Gyönyörű ez a könyvtár-és a közönség is nagyszerű, értő közönség volt.</p>

<p>Jelen pillanatban mindenféle írással foglalkozom, mert van egy újság, amiben „Nagymama” vagyok, és gyerekeknek válaszolok már három éve. Azonkívül előadóestjeim is vannak &#8211; holnap is lesz egy Budapesten. November végén pedig egy Blaha Lujzáról szóló estet készítek „Isten Kegyeltje” címmel, amely gödöllői vonatkozású. Én ugyanis már nagyon régóta Gödöllőn lakom, és neki ott utcája van, és mindenféle története. Szerintem az, aki azzal foglalkozik, amit mindig is szeretett volna, az Isten kegyeltje. Így ő is, és én is az vagyok.</p>
<p><em>Ön szerint korfüggő-e, hogy az ember meddig marad egy adott pályán?</em></p>
<p>Szerintem nem, a mi szakmánkban sem. De én úgy gondolom, ha az ember végiggondolja a görög klasszikusokat,  az akkori időszakban nem volt véletlen a vének tanácsa, és ez nagyon nagy baj. Hiszen mostanság sokan úgy gondolják, hogy nem kell azokat a dolgokat átvenni az embertől, amikért ő maga megszenvedett. Különben úgyis mindenki saját fejével megy a falnak. De ha útközben a felénél eszébe jut, hogy mit mondott például egy idősebb ember, akkor nem biztos hogy akkorát koppan a falon.</p>
<p><em>Mik a jövőbeli tervei?</em></p>
<p>Nagyon szeretnék a hetvenedik születésnapomra egy műsort csinálni azokból a dolgokból, melyeket én magam írtam, és nagyon neves kollégáim játszottak el, vagy énekeltek, és esetleg életem első cédéjét megcsinálni. Készítettem hangoskönyvet meg ezt-azt, de egy „sajátot” is szeretnék.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>We moved from a place near to Budapest to a place near to Szeged. That&#8217;s something I&#8217;ve already written about. A lot of things are different here, but what surprised me the most is cats.</p>
<p>We don&#8217;t have cats. We don&#8217;t really like them. Most of our neighbours  had cats at the place where we lived. I don&#8217;t know if cats leave their dirt at the place where they live (because I&#8217;ve never had a cat), but they do in the yard <strong><em>next </em></strong>to the place where they live. I don&#8217;t like to collect other people&#8217;s cats&#8217; dirt. I don&#8217;t like having to go out to check for dirt in the yard before I let children play there. Here it&#8217;s different. It&#8217;s one thing that this place is very sandy. Thus it&#8217;s easier for cats to bury their dirt. I saw a cat burying its dirt here and it really surprised me the special attention that it paid to do it <strong><em>properly</em></strong>.</p>
<p>Another thing is when we leave the dumpster out for garbage trucks to collect and empty them. Some people leave plastic bags only, some put plastic bags next to their dumpster. In any case, the cats at the old place always used their nails to open the bags looking for something they could eat. It was annoying to see how fast the street became dirty because of this. Here? No plastic bags will be even touched by any cats, but left as is. Are they not hungry? Do they have more to eat in such a small village where we live? Don&#8217;t know. Just that cats are different.</p>

Its web page is at <a href="http://szszk.sed.hu/">Szabad Szoftver Konferencia</a> &#8211; you already know that presentations were in Hungarian. I especially liked the ones that were about</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Open Source and our beloved Hungarian tax authority</strong>, APEH. It turned out that this authority doesn&#8217;t accept the fact the software can be free of charge and can&#8217;t cope with the case when a company gives support on such software. Etcetera, etcetera.</li>
<li><strong>Open Szeged</strong> &#8211; it&#8217;s a grandiose initiative that we should make Szeged an Open Source centre or even more that I don&#8217;t even dare to write down here. Grandiose or not, I agree with the intent of making a better use of the resources and talent pool that are available here.</li>
<li><strong>Android for developers</strong> &#8211; even though the topic was not new to me (hey, I even <a href="http://mobile-thoughts.blogspot.com/2009/10/book-on-porting-to-symbian.html">wrote about it</a> in a book) it was interesting to hear about it from a Linux developer&#8217;s point of view.</li>
</ul>
<p>What I didn&#8217;t like is that the conference was a bit disorganized, at least in the beginning. Then the presentations were allowed to take at most 20 mins, which was a good eye-opener, but since they followed each other very closely there wasn&#8217;t too much time to discuss with the speakers in public. I think there could have been a 5 mins Q&#38;A session allocated to each talk.</p>
