You have your T-Mobile G1 smartphone!

This device, very much long awaited by many, is now able to combine the now popular touch screen functionality with a QWERTY keyboard with ambulatory WEB undergo which include some Google Tools which you thought you could only use with your PC. Google functions include: Google Maps Street View Gmail, and one-touch Google search.

Along with the Google functions, comes the prototypal sound which is supercharged by Google’s latest offer, the open-source Android operative system. This system gives out an illogical programme that can be easily customizable in a bag screen. Your crapper is also able to acquire a non-mandatory cipher with the use of the Android Market in order to change the G1 with a difference of cipher applications same games, ethnic networking, and on-the-go shopping. All of which can be experienced in a whooping 3.2-inch touch screen!

The G1’s hinged concealment slides shows a ravishing QWERTY keyboard, which gives the user easy keyboard dialing use. The G1 runs on T-Mobile’s new 3G network, which at the same time also offers Wi-Fi connectivity, making your mobile a flexible device in cellular and internet networking.

Today I have been upset all day. My phone is broke! And this isn’t the first time. So, I bought a TMobile G1 about 5 months ago.
Here’s the bad boy, in case you didn’t know what a G1 was.

My husband had one and loved it so I got one too. I had my first one for about a month and it started doing crazy things, like saying the battery was dead then being fully charged the next without me doing anything. It turned itself on and off. Just crazy stuff. So I called in and they told me my phone was “possessed”! That was their words. They sent me a knew one, it took about a week. During that week I could use my phone some, it just didn’t always work.

I get my new one and things were going great. Well the phone dies, if you have ever had one of these you will know the battery only last like 3-5 hours if your using it for anything other than conversation. So I plugged it in and went to bed. I woke up in the morning and turned it on and the screen goes to some 4 colored screen with codes on it. I couldn’t get it back to normal so I call tmobile again. They couldn’t get it fixed. So now they are sending me a new one and I asked if I could get it really soon. The earliest is Wednesday, thats not too bad. I just have to use a cruddy phone until then.

To be quite honest, I love the G1, the touch screen and the full keyboard. I don’t like the on-screen keyboards. But I am tired of this phone already. After it has messed up this many times I want something different. They said if I go through 3 of them then they send a new phone to me of my choice. As bad as it is, I’m hoping it does mess up again. My hubby has had is twice as long as me and his has always worked perfect.

Just my luck I suppose. Thats been about the extent of my morning. Well, and the kids driving me nuts. Usually its quite but Braden is home on Christmas break. Looking forward to some quite again, although shortly after he goes back to school, so do I.

December 15, 2009 So this post arrived a little later than I was hoping. This is the second segment of a three part series discussing my decision to drop my iPhone. Today I am going to discuss some of the positive features that I am enjoying with my new T-Mobile G1.

Feature 1- I unlocked it without having to jailbreak it. I simply called T-Mobile and within 24 hours they emailed me an unlock code. The G1 is a quad-band phone so I can use it with any GSM carrier in the world.

Feature 2: The phone supports microSD cards so I can add bigger storage as they become cheaply available. Found a 16 gigabyte microSD card for $40 on newegg! So now I have all of my music, podcasts, videos and pictures on my phone.

Feature 3- a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus. Now keep in mind I was switching over from an iPhone 3G, which has a 2 megapixel camera with no autofocus.

Feature 4- I can install apps easily that are not in the Google Market store.

Feature 5- The battery life is definitely worst than the iPhone, but at least I can remove the battery and swap it out. I found another battery for around $15 dollars on Amazon. This gives me more than a full days worth of heavy usage.

Feature 6- I can sync my phone with any operating system. Even though I mostly sync my G1 with iTunes on my Macintosh, at least I have the option.

This are the main features that I really enjoy with my new G1. Now with all things there are the pros and cons. In my next blog post I will discuss some of the negative features about the T-Mobile G1 (aka HTC Dream).

Yes you read this title correctly! I have successfully ditched my iPhone 3G. Apple has shown me just how important open software really is. This is why I switched to the HTC Dream (aka T-Mobile G1). Well first off your probably thinking I am crazy for switching from an Apple iPhone. While the Android Market is still lacking in variety I feel as though there is a lot of promise. Allow me to point out some reasons why I switched from the iPhone 3G.

Reason 1: The iPhone is locked to AT&T. Now remember I jailbroke my iPhone 3G and was using the recent update by geohot. The iPhone 3G runs great on T-Mobile. So why would I be complaining about it being locked? Well I have never seen a GSM mobile phone that you could not obtain an unlocked code for and use it on any other GSM carrier (provided it was a tri-band or quad-band phone). I feel as though since I bought the phone I should be able to do with it as I please. It is my property, not AT&T’s or Apple’s iPhone. I have jailbroken iPod Touches in the past so I knew what I was up against, but it really just pisses me off at how Apple tries to prevent people from jailbreaking and unlocking. It really is just becoming a pain. AT&T and Apple say thats just how it is, well I have been to countries to offer the iPhone 3G and 3GS completely unlocked and you can use them on any GSM carrier in the world. So nice try AT&T and Apple. (Hong Kong is one of them)

Reason 2: Apple controls the App Store like a full fledge dictatorship. Why is this important? Well one example would be the fact that Apple will not allow Adobe to release their Flash player for the iPhone. They have a working program, but Apple will not approve it. While Adobe Flash is releasing their software across multiple smart phones in the first half of 2010. The point is there is no open development with the Apple SDK. A developer can spend hundreds or thousands of dollars and succesfully develop an app ready for release, but Apple could still choose not to allow it to have access to the App Store. Ultimately I think that the open development in the Android Market will surpass the iTunes App Store.

Reason 3: The last and most important reason I left the iPhone is merely a political statement. I recently have been more and more supportive of open source software. Even though the Android operating system is not completely open source, most of it is. All of the Google apps are of course closed source. I am also hoping that others will make this stand against Apple. We need to send Apple a message so maybe they will reconsider their agenda and the rights that we have as consumers.

Well tomorrow I will do another post that will list all of the positives with the T-Mobile G1 and the Android OS.

Look at the video below, it’s your friendly T-Mobile G1 running the Android 2.0 ‘Eclair’. It’s not a final Android 2.0 build nor is it anywhere close to being an official release, but it’s definitely still a sight to see. The amazing minds we have in the Android community decided to port over what they had in the Android 2.0 SDK to the T-Mobile G1.

As you’ll see in the video, the 2.0 port on the G1 is very, very rough. It’s sluggish and not really usable but hey, it’s the proof-of-concept and effort that counts! The video goes through some new Android 2.0 features and while some stuff obviously doesn’t work, you still get the overall feel. The T-Mobile G1 (and myTouch 3G) hasn’t yet been confirmed to officially receive Android 2.0 but we’re crossing our fingers it’ll come soon. There’s no doubt that running Android 2.0 will make them feel brand new all over again. Let’s make it happen!

Erstes Fazit

Der frustrierende Gesamteindruck des ersten Tages: Ich will meine Tastatur zurück!

Als kleiner Trost hier ein Vorgeschmack auf Android 2.0 Eclair.

Well, the picture above definitely brought up some speculation. According to HTC’s website, the HTC Magic in Brazil could have their Sense UI on it. This could mean that the sexy Sense UI could be headed to HTC Magic and possibly even the HTC Dream. We already heard that the Sense UI would not be headed to “Google-branded” phones, so sorry T-Mobile G1 and myTouch 3G owners.

I bought this phone a month ago so i have been playing with him alot.

It is a very well balanced phone, money well spent!

However like everything it has its bad and good things.

BAD
Battery – I can easily burn the battery in 5, 6 hours if using the phone intensively…in normal use i can get through the day with no problems.
Boot Time – Boot time takes ages even with phone in factory state (no apps installed)
Flash space - The phone flash memory is very little , which is a thing that can be minimized with a memory card.

Good
GPS – The startup time of the GPS is fast, and has a very good accuracy.
Wifi – After a few uses seems very stable and easy to configure.
Screen – Big colorful screen, readable in sunlight!
Touchscreen – Used some touchscreens and must say capacitive touchscreens are the best, very responsive and accurate.
3G – Although it burns lots of battery so it has a bad side, its fast and easy to set.
Processing power – Normal clocked processor in smartphones ( 328Mhz if i’m not mistaken…although it can be clock at 528mhz), even though it lags a bit in some stuff, it’s nothing big and browser is quite smooth.
Market - A market with applications to be downloaded for free or buy, it has tons of it!
Keyboard – The qwerty keyboard is very nice to type fast since the keys are nicely spaced and now with the Android 1.5 update you get a on screen keyboard which is good to type as long you’re not moving.

Two Pictures now to delight.

If you are a casual observer of smart phone industry news, you may believe that the iPhone is the mo

If you are a casual observer of smart phone industry news, you may believe that the iPhone is the most popular model on the market simply based on the media coverage it gets. There are a couple reasons the iPhone continues to get a lot of press - interface innovations, iTunes apps, and the ability to pour a fake beer out for your homies with the integrated accelerometer. Lately, the iPhone is hot - literally. But, by no means does it own the smart phone market.

That honor goes to Research In Motion (RIM) and the ubiquitous Blackberry. According to IDC’s Mobile Phone Tracker the Blackberry represents over 55% of the smart phone market, while the iPhone’s share is 19.5% as of the first quarter of 2009. Despite its business-based reputation, RIM claims that half of all Blackberry users are now consumer users.

When looking at smart phone sales by model, the Blackberry Curve is still on top with the iPhone following a close second. The Blackberry Storm and Pearl followed by the T-Mobile G1 (based on Google’s Android OS) round out the top five in that order.

These numbers are changing as I write thanks to the recent release of the iPhone 3Gs, which sold over 1 million units within the first three days of its release. The Palm Pre has sold roughly 300,000 units (well beyond expectations). These sales figures reinforce the competitive nature of the industry as innovations and new entrants continue to drive the market.

If we take one step back from the mountain we may see it as a molehill, compared to the potential market out there. Smart phone penetration in the mobile market is estimated at 19% in the U.S. and 11% globally. That means 81% of mobile phone users do not own any of the smart phones mentioned. Additionally, we know that most consumers still use their phone primarily for voice and secondarily for texting (SMS).

So, when I hear a marketer get excited about building an iPhone app – or one for the Blackberry or Palm Pre for that matter – I really do understand the excitement. I say let’s do it. But, nearly 100% of the mobile market can interact with your SMS campaign in a meaningful way and at a meaningful time. Apps for the iPhone are great, but SMS has a better reach.

T-Mobile myTouch 3G (shown in white, Merlot (red) and black).

Earlier this week T-Mobile finally let out of the bag something we wrote about a while ago (think January!)– confirming the next version of the first Google Android phone– the G1– with the announcement of the myTouch 3G (some of you may know of this as the G2 or HTC Magic. HTC, who also made the G1, also make this phone). This is actually a much cooler phone that what it looked like in its apparently early stages when we first wrote about it. So buckle up T-Mobile users, and hit the more link, because a lot of awesomeness is about to come your way.

Ok, so let’s break this all down.

I’m not 100% sure what exactly is doing it for me, but this design that you can see in the pic at the top of the post looks much better to me (maybe it’s the colors or better looking buttons). It just looks like a much better phone. Now feature wise here’s what we got:

3.2 inch touchscreen– Nice size with a pretty solid resolution of 480×320 (in English– a good screen that should be good for not just viewing movies and pix, but everything else you’d possibly do like texting, web browsing etc.)

Android 1.5– The latest and greatest of Google’s young mobile OS. 1.5, which is also available to G1 owners as an update, has features like on screen keyboard (kinda needed for an all touchscreen phone don’t you think?), as well as some other developer minded improvements. It also has all the Android version 1 features like the Android Market for apps, etc.

T-Mobile 3G– At this point it’s kinda a given but we feel we should list it anyways.

WiFi and GPS

T-Mobile myFaves support

3.2 megapixel camera with video recording– You also have the ability to directly upload Google’s YouTube and Picasa straight from the phone. It also comes with a 4 GB microSD card slot inside so you can shoot video and pix (and load it up with other things like music) right out of the box.

The myTouch 3G will be available sometime this summer– sadly no exact release date yet beyond a saying of “early Auguast release”– for $199.99 on a 2 year contract adn will be available in the 3 colors you see above– black, white or”merlot” (red). If you already are a T-Mobile customer, and are interested in pre-ordering the phone, you can do so starting July 8th.

For all the info on the myTouch 3G, check out T-Mobile’s site here.

What you think– this, G1, Sidekick LX 2009, BlackBerry Curve 8900, Touch Pro2, or are you holding out for something bigger and better (rumors are floating around saying their are a few more Android devices coming to T-Mobile this year, beyond the myTouch 3G, and there are also rumors of a 3G BlackBerry Curve also coming sometime in the future)?

Me? Between this and the G1 I would be leaning toward the G1 just because it has the full physicall slide out keyboard as well as the touchscreen one. Between the other phones? I would strongly consider this or the G1 (pretty much the same phone just one is with a physical keyboard and one is without if you really think about it– it all personal preference), the Touch Pro2 or the Curve 8900 as all are solid phones that should get the job of your usual texting, IMing, social network updating (and also calling for those that use it) done extremely well with plenty of room for other cool things like apps. But this post is about you T-Mobile users– which one of these phones you gonna go for?

After announcing yesterday that the new HTC Sense UI – found on the HTC Hero – would be hitting other Android-based phones as well, today stirred up some shocking news. Unfortunately, the HTC Sense UI will not be hitting any “Google” branded phones, so this includes the likes of the T-Mobile G1 and the myTouch 3G. Instead, it looks like us Canadians could be getting the HTC Sense UI on the new HTC Dream / HTC Magic – since they are not Google branded. Bad news for America; good news to the rest of the world.

Update: According to Slash Gear, the T-Mobile G1 and the Vodafone Magic will not be getting the new HTC Sense UI.

Now here is some great news for those current T-Mobile G1 / future myTouch 3G owners. HTC’s CE

Now here is some great news for those current T-Mobile G1 / future myTouch 3G owners. HTC’s CEO, Peter Chou, just said that “HTC Sense will be available on some other existing devices.” This could mean anything, but I bet that this will include current T-Mobile G1 owners. Canadian HTC Dream / Magic owners should be crossing their fingers that they get this release as well because the new UI definitely makes the device look so much sexier. No one knows when the Sense UI will be pushed out, but let’s hope it’s not too far into the future.

I received my G1 a few days before the release date and YES I am late. Is this a surprise? Probably

I received my G1 a few days before the release date and YES I am late. Is this a surprise? Probably not. I’ve been slackin’ recently but hey, its here.

I must admit it feels good having something that not many have. When I got my G1 everyone was trying to check it out. A week or two later my younger brother received his and we have yet to see anyone else with the G1 so that’s pretty cool. ha.

Touch screen is awesome. I’m broke (with a G1 – real Puerto Rican for you) so touch screen was totally new to me. I even caught myself touching the screen of my laptop trying to get to where I wanted. weird.

The G1 is a Google phone so it’s pretty cool that I can check out my Google calender and edit it on the phone or on the computer. Maps (sort of like mapquest) is also really handy.

I am loving the fact that I can download free ring-tones from myxer.com especially if it’s a Christian song I want as a ring-tone. When I had a Motorola, Sidekick 3 and a Sidekick LX I had to buy many ring-tones and I wasted A LOT of money so I am extremely happy with this. Thanks a bunch to @urbanjibaro who told me about this site.

With the sidekick 3 and sidekick LX I had to PAY for the download-able applications. The G1 gives you all the applications for free AND you can read the reviews/comments. You can scans bar codes with the G1 and it shows local stores/sites with the same item to compare prices. Other applications are weather, menstrual cycle tracker (comes in handy ladies), bible verses, games, flashlight, big clock/time, and just about anything you can think of and the market is growing.

YouTube is also available. You can use the browser to go to youtube.com search videos, select the one you want and it will play in the YouTube application.

The text messages hold hundreds at a time and all messages from one person show in a list sort of like a chatting format. It is much easier to read and not forget what the person is talking about. I used to have to delete messages all the time and with the G1 I do not have to delete messages unless I want to get rid of something.

The phone even has GPS. YES…GPS.

I know I am not describing this phone to the best of my ability but it does sounds pretty cool right?

Well… it’s pretty awesome but NOT all that as many make it seem.

The 3G network is only available in certain cities/states and Connecticut is not one of them. How is it that AT&T and Verizon have 3G everywhere and T-mobile doesn’t? Well, I do not know if they have 3G everywhere; I will have to see. Since I don’t have 3G I cannot use GPS; here it only tracks how fast I am going. Why would I want to know how fast the car is going if I can look at the meter IN the car? hm. I need directions people. The maps application gives you directions but live GPS would be pretty amazing.

Camera: I loved the Sidekick LXcamera much better. This one takes longer to take a picture because it “adjusts” on it’s own to take “better” pictures. no good. I have to see if I can take that option out, doubt it. oh.. and no video camera. How is it that the Sidekick LX had an update and started having video recording but the G1 which is a brand new phone with so many features does not have video recording?

Price If you are a brand new customer you can get the G1 for $179.99 which sounds pretty good.. but it’s the same or close to the price of an iPhone. How is that? Want to know the beauty? For current customers the price is over $300. YES, I need to pay over $300 for my phone AND they still extended my contract for two years. INSANE. My fault because I just HAD to get a new phone. I was good with my sidekick LX. I loved it actually. That’s OK. But $300 is too much for a phone.

Accessories: I cannot find any accessories. I do not have a screen protector how am I suppose to protect my screen? ugh. I must pay $10 for someone in the mall to put it on for me. ONE. Am I the only one who thinks this is too much money? Maybe I am cheap. I also need a case to protect it and none available! Thank God I have not dropped my phone.

I was a sidekick user for over 18 months so I am used to having the keyboard in the middle with some phone space in my palm before getting to the keys so it took some time to get used to the G1. The G1’s keyboard is on the left side and then the bottom buttons are on the right side. I messed up a lot when writing because I had to hold the phone differently and the buttons are much thinner than the sidekick.

New Phones? Talking about making mistakes with thin keys how do people expect to type good with that new phone with the keyboard in the screen. Is it the blackberry storm? I get confused with ALL the new phones coming out.

How is it that T-mobile came out with a new touch screen 3G cell phone then ATT & Verizon came out with some AND then t-mobile also comes out with a brand new phone??

I had it with new phones. These phones are not worth the hundreds plus $35+ a month of just data plans alone PLUS the regular voice plan.

I’m not upgrading to a new phone again unless that phone can turn itself into a safe working car.
