While doing my little one, two, I stumbled across a new Slum Village video/promo for Village Manifesto.  It’s a real short video that show T3 kicking his verse from their track Da Night.  Elzhi’s verse on this joint is CRAZY as well.  I wonder if they are gonna drop the full video.  Enjoy

Despite the miserable snow making my travel plans difficult, today I bumping the newest project from one of my favorite groups of all time, Slum Village’s Village Manifesto EP.  It has been a few years since Slum Village released a group project and since, Baatin has passed away and J Dilla’s younger brother, Illa J has been added to the group.  Village Manifesto is a very short project that features 6 tracks with Baatin dropping verses just prior to his passing.  I got the chance to listen to the EP on SV’s myspace page a few weeks ago and now I finally got a copy for the ride.  Although, Slum’s last few projects have yet to compare to the first 3(if you count Fanstatic Volume 1), they have some gems on all of them.  This project is a tight 6 songs.  At this point, as long as Elzhi spits, the song is worthy of a listen and a rewind.  However, T3 sounds good, Baatin even sounds like he is stepping up his pen game.  The rhymes are definitely on point and the beats are pretty dope as well.  I’m not a big fan of the Money Right hook but the song still gets burn.  Village Manifesto is definitely a solid project to round out 2009 and hopefully we will be getting a full length next year.  Check out the joint Dope Man featured on the EP and make sure you check out the rest of the EP as well.  Happy Holidays too all.

My 1st visit to Changi Airport Terminal 3 today to see its giantitic Musical Ball in the Departure Hall that opens up every half hour to play X’mas melodies and give out sweets & gifts at the end of each performance:

That’s right dammit, Elzhi of Slum Village is following in the footsteps of many other artists with a free download-able album. It’s called “The Leftovers Unmixedtape:” and I’m like on track 14 after being stuck on track 7. a song called “Living (Prod. DJ Dez)”. Its got this sort of slow melodic trans-like flow to it that I can’t skip. That’s just me, see if you got a track you cant pass up as well. Elzhi, the last member of my favorite group in the world and though it seems not to say much, the most lyrical cat with the clique. Indecently, hes also one of the most lyrical cats I know bar none, but when Slum Village first began, this guy was not even with the team at the time. The entire Rookie TV camp knows how much of a Slum Village fan I am so you know I cant just give you the link to the download without a little of the history of the group. The group was formed by three members: rappers Baatin (deceased, 31 July 2009) and T3, plus rapper and producer J Dilla.

Baatin, T3, and Jay Dee grew up together in the Conant Gardens neighborhood of Detroit and attended Pershing High School. The group steadily became popular in Detroit’s underground hip hop scene. Jay Dee also became a member of the production team known as The Ummah, which produced the two last A Tribe Called Quest studio albums, as well as hits for a number of R&B and hip hop musicians. Slum Village’s first album, 1996’s Fantastic, Vol. 1, was not officially released until 2005 but highly sought after in underground circles. In 1998, the group opened for another hip hop trio, A Tribe Called Quest, on their farewell tour. Tribe basically put Slum Village on and I found out because Tribe was my favorite group by far at the time bar none!

I can remember the first time I heard JDilla was on a mixtape Funkmaster Flex vol. 3 (back when they really were put on cassette tapes LOL) and I will never forget it because Q Tip was rapping with him on a rap with one of the hottest beats on the CD! I had that shit on repeat until it started skipping. It was on like track 33 I think. (I digress)

Originally Slum Village was signed to the now defunct A&M record label and the group was forced to postpone the release of their official debut album due to label politics, but in June 2000 they released Fantastic, Vol. 2 on Good Vibe Recordings. Also that year they released an album called Best Kept Secret, under the alias J-88, which featured remixes and leftover material from Fantastic, Vol. 1. I can remember Seeing Climax on MTV at the time and just couldn’t believe it. My favorite rap group I was actually watching on MTV like they were a pop act. It was fine to me, I felt they were getting some will needed exposure.

Jay Dee left in 2002 to pursue a solo career with MCA Records and was replaced by Elzhi.
Jay Dee’s death (deceased in February 2006) brought about by complications from Lupus rocked not only Slum Village and the entire city of Detroit, but the nation and the world that followed hip hop since it’s infancy. Jay Dilla’s beats had spanned so many different artists genres and time periods that months after he had passed I was still learning of music he produced in his time on this earth. After Dilla there was an obvious void to fill, but what route would Slum Village take? Would they go for a Lyricist or a producer. Its far and few to find a cat that can do both like Dilla. In the end the Slum decided on getting a Lyricist by the name of Elzhi, and let me tell you he is ill. But I wasn’t sold on him at first. First time I can remember seeing him was on the Tainted video. I had to admit he came nice, but the video was so dope it would have been ultra hard to hate it.

Shout out to Kinga, believe it or not, this is her photo that Slum Village’s official website yanked as a memorial to Baatin after his untimely death. Baatin got his start on the mic in 1986. In the early ’90s, he befriended the now deceased rapper Proof (of D12), and would accompany him to hip-hop nights at Stanley’s Café and 1515 Broadway. In 1991, Baatin’s hip-hop group, Ssenepod (dopeness spelled backward), changed its name to Slum Village, which at the time, was made up of Jay Dee, Baatin and T3. It was then that Glover first christened himself Scandalous-T. He remained as an active member of the group until the early 2000’s. In the year 2002, shortly after the release of the group’s third album, Baatin began to experience health problems, which interfered with the group’s music and touring performances.

By now, I had gotten used to the new look of Slum and I even got used to the other producers that weren’t Dilla like Black Milk and Young RJ. The cats had heat, but until Dilla passed, I just never noticed them as much. By the time Selfish had come out it was like the perfect cola to me. Here it was Slum Village was finally established AKA they weren’t hungry and Kanye West was Chicago’s fastest rising star at the time waaaaaaay before the Taylor Swift shit, although we did love the hell out of us some Senator Obama at the time The Sample is very familiar at first listen but West does a great job of making the beat uniquely his own. Elzhi is a beast on this song. I could tell the cat was gonna be something even before this.

I knew the Slum had changed when the group was no more than Elzhi and T3 and they did a video called “EZ UP” which was basically a 3min Chevy commercial. Notice not only the many cars in the video but all the references to cars as well. Look how clean the edits are LOL, little guys (unknown directors) like me can only dream of getting a project like this. Everything in this video has a place and there is a place for everything. Cue the vixens…NOW! HAHAHAHAHA! Ez Up!.

Well, things have changed, and since Slum has been doing better its been harder and harder to get at them to get interviews. I can remember them visiting Chicago years ago and we got the opportunity to hang with them briefly. The time was cut short because we asked too many questions about J Dilla as back then it was still too fresh (alcohol and interviewing doesn’t mix) Although our time was cut short, we did however manage to get some really tight footage of Elzhi spitting a few of the “Rules of Rap” a book he wrote on rhyme. To this day I don’t know if it was real , but the rhyme he spit was ridiculous. Also check Big DAVE as e shoots the first ever Drunkard Cam episodes of Rookie TV. Allow me to quote myself when I say, “Drunks are funny!”

This is the last video I have seen with the fellas minus J Dilla. A video called “Actin’ Normal”. Ironically it was right before Batiin was supposed to be getting back with the group after a short hiatus and a brutal battle with schizophrenia. Enjoy.

Slum Village has weathered many Storms and believe it or not I been a fan throughout all of it. I think this is a testament to how much longevity they poses. They speak for not only Detroit, but hip hop as a whole. May their recordings live forever. Elzhi has done a great job since he was drafted by the SV and truthfully I only see good things coming from this guy in the future. I mean who give away a mix CD this hot for free? I always have love for the perfect wave and I am guessing many of you do as well. It’s a seductive, overtly feminine hairstyle I have been trying to figure out how to perfect for a while. Allure has a great video of Luigi Murenu describing the inspiration behind the hairstyle but not really explaining how to get it. I finally got Chris to show me how to do the glam waves I have been trying unsuccessfully to master on my own. This is not for the faint of heart — you will need some tools, products, muscle, and patience.

1. Wash your hair. Or not. 2. Section your hair and blow dry it straight with a round brush. As you blow dry, use a volumizer, like T3’s Plump, on each section. 3. Decide on either a center or side part and part hair accordingly. Section dry hair and start curling with an iron from the bottom up. For this stage, T3 has another awesome product created just for this purpose: Elevate. It’s a volumizing spray made specifically to work with irons (curling and flat) so the hair stays full as it heats up. It also protects the hair from the hot iron. Your hair will look scarily Medusa-like after this step but it’s supposed to look like that. 4. Brush out each section gently with a soft-bristled brush, like a Mason-Pearson. (Side note to Mason-Pearson: You need a website befitting of a brush-maker of your status.) 5. Holding each section away from your head, use the brush to tease the hair underneath. Sort of take the brush and start at the root and just move in small, gentle reverse strokes underneath each section so the hair is slightly fluffed. 6. Set with hairspray (Elnett is my favorite) and you are good to go!

In an exciting twist of events, my hair got an early Christmas present last night. When I arrived home I discovered a package containing a new T3 Featherweight Dryer and a trio of T3 Anti-Gravity brushes! There is a fun back story to how these gifts from above ended up in my possession. Jen Gear, the president of Gear Communications and publicist for T3, found my article about Orlando and Chris, liked it, and decided I needed to try some of their other products. The Featherweight blow dryer already has a notch on its belt from Allure and is the recipient of a 2009 InStyle Best Beauty Buys award. Before embarking on some old-fashioned hometown Thanksgiving fun last night I put this dryer to the test.

I have been using an Elchim 2001 for the last four years and I’m obsessed with it – it’s powerful and gets the job done. But lately I have been feeling like it could set my hair on fire at any moment. My hair is really long and a combination of fine/coarse wavy/frizzy and it really needs to be worked-over to be straightened. At first, the weight of the Featherweight threw me off; I am so used to the heft of the Elchim and have always equated that with quality. So I was disappointed by the comparatively puny weight (not size, the size is about equal). The blast of air also didn’t seem as strong or as searingly hot as the Elchim’s. But as I started using it, I noticed my hair was drying rapidly and had a squeaky-clean quality and incredible shine. The dryer never got overheated and my arm didn’t feel like it was going to fall off! Overall I dried my hair and styled it completely in under 25 minutes, whereas it takes me almost 45 minutes with the Elchim. (Note: I used the T3 Large Ceramic Barrel brush, which is also what I use at home). The Featherweight also smoothed the frizz of my hair completely without even using any product. I can’t wait to continue to use it when I get back to New York. It might be time to retire the Elchim for good.

T3 & Young RJ pick out beats that were submitted to Slum Village for the Villa Manifesto Digital EP, available online this December. Young RJ came along way and is the man behind that crazy “Dope Man” record.

O Diário Oficial da União (Seção 3) publicou, nesta terça-feira (24/11), o resultado da Habilitação da Concorrência Internacional para contratação dos projetos para a construção do terceiro terminal de passageiros do Aeroporto de São Paulo/Guarulhos – Governador André Franco Montoro (SP). A Infraero, dando prioridade aos investimentos necessários à realização da Copa de 2014, julgou habilitadas para participar da licitação sete concorrentes.

A licitação internacional contempla serviços e estudos preliminares, projeto básico, projeto executivo e serviços complementares também para o edifício garagem, sistema viário de acesso, pátio de estacionamento de aeronaves, implantação da rede de queroduto e demais obras complementares.

O preço de referência da licitação é R$ 38 milhões. Os sete consórcios que participam da disputa são: Concremat/ATP/MHA Engenharia; Engevix/Planway; ESA/INECO; Geplan/Estel/Esteio e Ricardo Amaral Arquitetos; PJJ Malucelli Arquitetura e Construção Ltda/Andrade e Rezende Engenharia de Projetos S.S. Ltda e Gabinete de Projetação Eletrônica Ltda; Pöyry/C2E; e Themag Engenharia e Gerenciamento Ltda.

Esta nova licitação foi aberta depois que o projeto sofreu adequações, como a necessidade do aumento da área do novo terminal, que era de 160 mil metros quadrados e vai para 232 mil m2. Neste momento, o processo encontra-se em fase de recurso, de cinco dias úteis e outro igual período para impugnação. Depois desta etapa, a Infraero convocará as empresas participantes para abertura dos envelopes contendo as propostas de técnica e de preço. A previsão de elaboração dos estudos é de 23 meses, a partir do contrato, previsto para ser assinado em trinta úteis.

A licitação internacional permite que as melhores empresas do mundo especializadas em obras aeroportuárias participem da concorrência. A diferença é que na licitação nacional as empresas estrangeiras só podem concorrer se estiverem consorciadas com construtoras brasileiras. O processo licitatório internacional foi divulgado junto a consulados e sua validação de atestado técnico segue padrões mundiais de concorrência.

This month’s banter comes to us from Joe Brusati a long time reader of CrazyKinux’s Musing, who asks the following: CCP states that T3 Strategic Cruisers are just the start for the T3 line-up. In future Eve expansions what would you like to see as the next T3 ship type. Please be specific on details about what role this ship would play, cost of manufacturing, and the different modules that would be available for it, and of course you must give your T3 ship a name!

I really, really, really (yes 3 reallys) like T3 ships, especially the Tengu (I’m missile whore). I flew it twice in AT7 and was very happy with its performance and only more pleased that the price continues to fall… which brings me to my T3 wish list.

I think battleships are the next logical step in T3 evolution, but not where I hope CCP takes it.

I WANT T3 MODULES… that’s right T3 modules. My initial idea was combo cruise/siege launchers where you could unload your torps, right click the launcher group, choose reconfigure, wait -5-10 secs, reload with cruise missiles and continue firing. After thinking a little longer, I decided that might be stupid but then thought about all those Rifter pilots who could load arty or autocannon ammo in the same guns as they hunted different pilots in the wild without having to redock.

Taking it farther, what about T3 shield hardeners, specifically the damage specific ones. The Photon Scattering Field II gives a 55% EM bonus, where a Photon Scattering III gives a 55-60% to EM and 3-5% to THERM, KIN and EXP. This type of bonusing would work on several modules benefiting all races. MWDs that offer a trade between speed and sig radius, painters that learn and paint better, damps that learn when a targets has achieved lock and switches from a scan res to a targeting range script. Drones that “see” where the fleet is firing and moves accordingly even if the drone ship is jammed.

Then lastly, what about T3 ammo? Anyone who has ventured to close to a Sleeper outpost knows the power of those omni damage missiles. What about the same for all ammo in New Eden. Maybe ammo that learns as it hits its target making each salvo that much more damaging.

Just some of my T3 ideas that I think should be looked at….

Yes, the past 8 months here in Toronto have been phenomenal both personally and professionally (‘09 has been the SHEEEEEIIIIT!)  but, it’s starting to get cold and I’ve quickly realized that I’m not built like that anymore.  Plus, I miss the shit outta my Taiwanese counterparts.  So, I’m gettin my hibernation on and goin to the island to throw parties with the best of the best and enjoy life.

However, as those of you who’ve flown overseas before know, I’m gonna be on a plane for like 2 months rendering this blog inactive for a little bit.  So today’s post is gonna be completely loaded with goodies to tide you over until I get back to some land.

Scarub, Luckyiam, Sunspot Jonz, Eligh, Bicasso, Aesop, Murs & The Grouch, or better known as West Coast’s current underground torchbearers, The Living Legends are the definition of paid dues.  Having completely built themselves up independently from scratch, there are few hip-hop artists who can rival what they’ve done in the underground and truthfully, there are few hip-hop artists, underground or mainstream that can generate the revenue they do because of the work they’ve put in and the independent route they’ve taken.  Now, at approximately a gazillion total releases, one of the Legends standouts, the Grouch returns with his latest effort ‘Eyes off the time’ and so far it sounds extra ill. After playing EvE Online for over 2 years, having seen 3 major winter patches, enjoyed the advent of T3, having flown in 2 alliance tournaments, being frustrated at the 5 minute timer on the forums and reading the excellence that is the EvE blogging community, I have decided to ruin it all by throwing my .02 ISK into the solar wind and seeing how big of a whole they make in the side of some station or ship.

With the upcoming Dominion expansion, and the awesome EvE community blogs, I thought I should have my own voice echoing through the galaxy of New Eden....

I have been planning on doing this for some time, and am now following through on that plan. I will be posting several posting in quick succession as there are some things I want to cover, both past and present.
