I have experienced scriptwriting since i was in Grade five. There were activities such as creating a role-play and i would volunteer to write the script. When i stepped on to High School, i started knowing a bit about how a director works. We would present and discuss the kabanata of Ibong Adarna [studied first year, grade 7 Philippines] given to us through role-playing. I would write the script, rush them up the next day for their emotions-to-be, and usually create props before the day. I would buy cartolina to create it as a vest. And draw a horse’ head in a cardboard, then stick up something long. That was usually the walis or the holder of the dustpan that i stick to the horse’ head. I didn’t actually see each short presentation as a simple one performed in a classroom, graded as a quiz by the teacher. It’s like we act in a real stage, and that I guide them as if i’m a real director. I knew that was what i wanted to be.

An actor, or a director? For some, they see more of the actor than the director. They would clap their hands at its best for support. When the director is introduced, YEY~! In watching theater plays, the applauses were louder when it comes to the director. But for those who are not familiar with what a director really does, they adore the actors more. Because it is the actors they see.

I love theater. much.

Do you know what a subtext is? Do you know how to create a real tableau? Can you differentiate small actors from small roles? Do you know that a stage has nine parts? Do you know the difference between watchers and viewers?

All those i have learned when i first joined real theater club. You’ll know this the next days. Not now, it’s a thriller.

*i’m giving credit to Sir Bong! Director of Tanghalang Tatsulok, a community theater group in Bataan. Sir Bong was invited by our President last year to create a play for theater members to perform.  I missed the rehearsals!*

I decided to take a little shopping expedition to Tableau, check out some hair, jewellery, trinkets and take in the view.

To my amazement, upon arriving I was met with scenes of destruction!

A few people wandered in a dazed state, bewildered by what they were seeing

I amanaged to capture on film what appeared to be a giant disco ball falling from the sky

There was much wailing and breast beating from some

I beat a retreat, narrowly avoiding damage to myself

Come A-Caroling!
Sunday, December 13 – 2:30 p.m.
Fun for all Ages

Two-thirty will be the rallying time in the church parking lot. Join a caroling caravan that will take us to various places such as senior residences, nursing homes, and homes of shut-ins. If you have suggestions for places to carol this year, speak to Rod soon! We will finish by 5:00 or 5:30 with a simple but nose-and toes warming supper. If you’d like to be our host for supper this year, and you live not far from the church, we’d love to have an invitation. Otherwise we will share a meal at the church. It’s a truly intergenerational and heartwarming time. Look for signup on church bulletin board.

Christmas Joy Offering
Christmas Joy offering is in existence for the last 71 years.
50% of the money will help college students at:

Barber-Scotia College
Cook School for Christian Leadership
Knoxville College
Menaul School
Presbyterian Pan American School
Sheldon Jackson College
Stillman College

The other 50 % of the money will be used by the Board of Pensions to supplement income for retired workers and emergency financial assistance for current/retired church workers.

Christmas Eve Service
A Family Tradition with Crèche, Carols and Candlelight
Thursday, December 24 – 7:00 p.m.

It’s a long-lived tradition at BPC. There will be nativity tableaux vivants (or living scenes) featuring young folks in the roles of Mary and Joseph, angels, shepherds and wise men. Choir and congregation will join in many carols. The service will end with a spreading of candlelight throughout the sanctuary. Mr. MacDonald will give a brief message. The Christmas Joy Offering will be received. This service is a wonderful way to introduce friends and neighbors to the church – and maybe to make a difference in their lives.

All youth are reminded to return the letter sent last month with their choices for roles right away!

Deacons Corner
It is hard to believe that we are starting the Advent season and 2009 is winding down.

Deacons’ projects for December include People Helping People’s pajama and underwear program and the Wish Tree. If you have taken cards for pajamas and underwear, please get your unwrapped gifts to Betty Doubek no later than December 13. Volunteers are needed to staff the Wish Tree on December 3, 8, and 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. There are sign-up sheets in Fellowship Hall.

Orders for poinsettias must be in by the first week of December. Order forms are available in the Sunday bulletins. Deacons Trish Briggs and Annelies Rots are in charge of flowers in case you have questions. For those who wish to make a donation in honor or memory of loved ones, but do not wish to buy flowers, any extra gifts will be added to the Emergency Fund.

We wish you a blessed Advent.

Winner "Best Use of Color" by Debbie Conforti

Debbie shared with me that much of her table was created with items purchased at Michael’s–the birds that “nest” as napkin rings, for example, came from Michael’s.  It shows that you don’t need to use expensive high-end decor to create a winning table.

I don’t know who designed this gorgeous black and white swan table, but I’ll find out and update you all.                        Very elegant!

"The City of Lights in Blacks and Whites" by Karen Wirrig

Another beautiful black and white table by designer, Karen Wirrig.  The textiles are especially stunning.  Karen designed this custom tablecloth that has the Eiffel Tower radiating out from the center.

The table skirt has the Eiffel Tower alternating with abundant kick pleats.  And the the best part (I think) are the chair covers.  Each cover represents a different part of Paris.  Karen had these pictures printed onto fabric which was then sewn into these seat covers by seamstress extraordinaire, Linda Tully, owner of Custom Coverings.  Linda’s business is not open to the public, but if you ever need special custom work, I would be happy to represent you to Linda.

Birds and pears were both very popular at this year’s Tableau and this table has both.  Porcelain pheasants encircle the centerpiece–I love that this designer juxtaposed sparkle and flat throughout her table–a soft natural gourd centerpiece with pheasant feathers playing off of the shine of the glasses and pheasants.   This is repeated with the pears nestled in the gold holders–beautiful.

I love the playfulness of this table.  Very much a garden party for this stylish rabbit.

The third annual Tableau event (fundraiser for Ryan House–see previous posts for info) was held on Saturday, November 14, and was lavish, over-the-top fun and beauty!  This event showcases top Valley designers and their beautiful tablescapes.  In addition was a wonderful vintage fashion show by Robert Black/Ford Agency, wonderful raffle prizes, gaming, and more!

Tombée par hasard sur ce tableau du peintre belge Fernand Khnopff, je pense immédiatement à Malpertuis dont je vous parlais récemment. L’ambiance de grisaille et de bruine, la lumière d’aquarium ? C’est ça. C’est exactement ça.

Je ne sais pas si je vais faire de ce “Sunday Picture” une rubrique récurrente, mais ça pourrait. J’aime bien l’idée de vous faire partager régulièrement une image qui me parle sans l’intégrer forcément dans un billet plus long. Comme ça, juste pour le plaisir. Ca vous dit ?

Premier article. Ce blog n’a pas de but précis. Peut-être n’est-il même pas destiné à être lu, peut-être restera-t-il à l’état d’embryon amorphe. Nous verrons bien. Sur internet les gens ont tendance à raconter leurs états-d’âme, pensant qu’on s’intéresse à eux. Mais personne ne s’intéresse à eux, pas plus qu’à moi. Je ne vais donc pas livrer des états-d’âme, pour ça il ya a les journaux intimes d’adolescentes en crise.

Je commencerai donc avec une touche artistique, quelques déclinaisons d’un thème que j’affectionne visuellement. Sur un mur de lambris sont accrochés différents cadres, puzzle d’une image que l’observateur a le soin de recomposer à partir des différents morceaux. J’ai laissé une légère transparence sur certaines.

Aren’t holidays all about friends, family and of course, food?  And the icing on the cake is the table where everyone joins around.  It really is a gift to the guests to set a beautiful table.  You can get some wonderful ideas for setting a gracious table from this weekend’s event, Tableau, held at Scottsdale Plaza Resort on Saturday, November 14, 2009.  Here is an example:
