This table has been around for YEARS. It’s one of the very first things I made when we opened

This table has been around for YEARS. It’s one of the very first things I made when we opened our store. We bought the metal base at a yard sale; painted it black. Michael scrounged the plywood top and attached it.

Back then, ‘ black and mustard’ were my go to colors, but I was just learning to use latex paints (as opposed to acrylic craft paints) and the table just never was ‘quite right’.

It looked ’splotchy’ instead of aged to me. I had always intended to just take it home and repaint the top. But it was such a PERFECT size and shape table for creating a focal point display on, I ended up just throwing a table-cloth on top and using it until we closed the store a few months ago. Now I HAD to do something with it!

So I gave it a good sanding, and repainted it a nice creamy soft beige. Then gave it some oomph with a fleur-de-lis foam stamp. I use a SPONGE to apply paint to my stamp. It’s quicker and easier than using a paint brush. And an old grocery coupon book makes a perfect paint palette!

I can usually get 3 imprints from each loading. Of course, I am going for a faded look and will be sanding off some of the ‘heavier’ prints. (First print is usually the darkest, then lighter and lighter. By sanding over them all at the end though, I even it out a bit.)

I always use a hand-held orbital sander, but you could sand by hand if necessary. If hand sanding, I recommend a COARSE sanding block.

After ‘evening out’ my stamped print, I decided I wanted to distress the entire table a bit, so I sanded some more all over.

That line on the left of the table is a shadow.

A couple of coats os satin varnish for protection and we’ve gone from ‘mustard BLAH’ to OOoo00oo~ la~ LA! (sorry about the flash glare!)

This little beauty is just waiting for our bigger space to become available at Stars. (hopefully within a month!) And I just finished three more smaller round tables to complement it.

Dive (or decompression) tables have been rendered obsolete by some diving instructors and scuba enth

Dive (or decompression) tables have been rendered obsolete by some diving instructors and scuba enthusiasts. Who uses them anyway? As many recreational divers would quip nowadays. But then, dive tables have been employed for many years to theoretically determine the No Decompression Limits (NDL) and stage a safe ascent to the surface; whether for a recreational diving activity or in the plan of underwater combat missions. And despite its diminished popularity among divers, there is no better way of learning decompression theories and concepts than studying the use of dive tables.

Like most manual devices that have lost its function to the advent of electronic gadgets, the serviceable decompression tables are slowly being replaced by high performance dive computers. These modernized pieces of scuba equipment calculate decompression limits based on actual depth and time to generate least conservative results and allow repetitive dives at minimum surface intervals.

It won’t hurt for a scuba diver to migrate to the more progressive functions of the dive computer and enjoy its convenience features during multi-level dives. The computations generated from dive tables can still be used nonetheless by cautious divers who prefer to dive under more conservative decompression parameters in order to increase their margin of safety. Furthermore, dive table calculations can also be utilized as a back up device in case a dive computer malfunction occurs that may arise from the improper maintenance of the scuba equipment’s batteries.

Given a more constructive outlook on the utility of dive tables, let us now survey the convenience and safety features of high performance dive computers retailed in many scuba diving shops.

Automated Activation. If you are taking repetitive dives, there is a tendency to overlook the simple push of a button to activate the dive computer. Surely you won’t fancy an empty reading of vital info from your scuba equipment display upon descent to the depths.

Alarms for Safety Stop and Maximum Depth. Alarms serve as the ultimate safety feature of dive computers in the intent of preventing decompression sickness. Get prompted for a safety stop at least 15 feet below the surface or receive a warning through the display if you’ve breached the maximum depth of your dive.

Nitrogen Tissue Loading and Dive Time Remaining Monitor. Get a periodic, theoretical reading of nitrogen loading rates in relation to dive time and depth. Likewise be informed of elapsed dive time.

Automated Altitude Compensator. Whether its sea water or fresh water you are diving in, most dive computers are programmed to recalibrate settings for no-decompression times and depths for altitudes of up to 14,000 feet.

Ascent Indicator and Depth-Dependent Ascent Rate. Don’t know if you’re ascending the surface too fast? Visual indicators are outfitted into dive computers to alert you of your ascent rate and likewise provide better cruise control.

These features are now bundled with the Aeris XR-2 Wrist Dive Computer [http://www.scubasuppliers.com/site/1408308/product/10.2610]. A compact and easy to use scuba equipment, the XR-2 will prove to be a very handy tool as you pursue multi-level dives. The device also comes featured with a dive simulation planner, battery hot swap functions and is Nitrox compatible as well.

In what could be big shocker of the night, John Cena dropped his title to Sheamus in a clean loss in a table match. Its quite understandable that Cena did not get pinned or submit, just went crashing through a table. That too when he tried to suplex Sheamus while the latter shoved him off.
Nice to see Sheamus winning, but he has a lot to prove. Personally I think its a namesake title change and Sheamus would lose it back so soon. There is a big split reaction for Cena, lots of Boos even after the match. Cena took the piece of table as he returned back to the dressing room. Interesting…

Sheamus is the new WWE Champion

2) WWE Intercontinental Title Match: Drew McIntyre venció a John Morrison ©

McIntyre vence a Morrison vía double arm DDT

3) WWE Women’s Title Match: Michelle McCool venció a Mickie James

4) Tables Match for the WWE Title: Sheamus venció a John Cena

5) Chairs Match for the World Heavyweight Title: The Undertaker © venció a Batista

Undertaker venció a Batista vía Tombstone Piledriver

6) Randy Orton venció a Kofi Kingston

7) TLC Match for the Unified Tag Team Titles: DX venció a Chris Jericho & Big Show

Project title

Nordic Furniture

Length of project

5 months

Concept

The inspiration for the project came to me after a fabulous dinner at the Danish 2-star Michelin restaurant Noma. Their name is a contraction of Nordisk Mad (Nordic Food) and this is the base for the dogma that is the restaurant’s trademark: All the raw materials come from only Nordic countries (Scandinavia and the North Atlantic islands).
I asked myself: Is it possible to transfer the dogma to furniture design? Can I make a series of furniture which exclusively uses materials from the Nordic countries and builds on, but also seeks to renew, the Nordic furniture tradition?

Inspiration

Gourmet restaurant Noma, classic Scandinavian furnitures and nature

Materials

Smoked oakwood, chair seat is upholstered with woven horsehair and the chair back is covered with salmon skin

Keywords for the visual design

A contemporary collection of furnitures with roots in the classic nordic furniture tradition – made in nordic materials

How is your work process when you design?

Sketching, sometimes scale modeling, 3D drawing and full scale prototyping

Which part of the process is the hardest for you to work through?

It can be hard when you feel the good ideas do not seem to come to you anymore. And I have to work faster, not taking too much time making the decisions

In your experience, are there specific skills that would be helpful to master?

Always good to be hands-on with materials and full scale modeling to see correct proportions.

For my part the 3D work and it-skills could be improved

What are your strengths?

Wooden furnitures, prototyping, a sense for shapes and stubbornness

What are your weaknesses?

My stubbornness and I am not good at selling myself or my work

Do you turn to specific areas for inspiration in general?

Classic nordic furnitures, nature and trying to keep an open mind, knowing that inspiration can come from anywhere or anything

Any designers you find inspirational?

Doshi & Levien, Jasper Morrison, Patricia Urquiola, Carl Malmsten, Finn Juhl, H. J. Wegner …

Other students you find inspirational?

Antonio Scaffidi, Mads Johansen, Jenny Palmborg, Jakob Jørgensen, Signe Møller Jensen …

Is your work process based on a special approach towards design?

I would like to have a more specific approach, but I feel my work process can at times seem quite chaotic. However that is what makes the process exciting and different every time.

Do you have a dream scenario for you and your design in the future?

Own furniture studio and recognition. I will be satisfied though being able to live off making furniture design

Has it always been a dream to work with design?

I have dreamt about doing something creative (drawing), but furniture design only became a goal late during my cabinetmaker education

Why did you choose this specific specialization?

As educated cabinetmaker it was an obvious choice, wanting to go the creative way. Also I think furniture making suits my temper

Do you have any other projects you would like to highlight?

Dune lounge chairs and Wooden Spoon chair. Both projects emphasises my style, giving a twist to new nordic design

Were can we find more information about you?

Before I go on, I must make it clear that this is not going to be a monthly thing! I’m just going to share some helpful tools in Excel as and when I come across them. So take this as my christmas present to all of you \\^_^//

I came across this tool (Data Tables) earlier this month, and I thought that it would be helpful to analysts in performing Scenario Analysis. Thus I summarised some key points to share in the file attached.

So I found the need / desire to place tables side by side in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BeginnersTeam/F

So I found the need / desire to place tables side by side in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BeginnersTeam/FocusGroups/Development/Joining.

I successfully got the tables working how I wanted them, however I noticed a few issues. The first issue is that the tables aren’t maintained when you break them across lines by the ‘||’ tag. i.e.

||<tablestyle...>||Something||SomethingElse||

does not parse the same as

||<tablestyle...>

||Something

||SomethingElse

But that’s understandable, given how parsing engines work.. And the only time this becomes a hassle is when you want two or three or even four tables side by side, you have to write them as one large table which tends to take up several lines for one row of tabular data.

But one idea I propose is to create a shortcut for <style=”border:none”>. Similar to how: <#000000> is a shortcut for <style=”background:#000000;”> and how <50%> is a shortcut for <width:”50%”> which is a shortcut for <style=”width:50%;”>.

That would make it a little easier and a little clutter than seeing a line such as:

||<style="border:none">||<style="border:none">||<style="border:none">|| dataHere || DataHere ||

And make it something more like:

||<nb>||<nb>||<nb>|| dataHere || DataHere ||

where <nb> = no border.

Another idea would be for the tables to actually be floated next to each other…but in the few attempts I had with the floating, it didn’t seem to work. So if that does work, then I just may have overlooked something. Hrm.

Food for thought. Tis all.

Many web designers seem to be abandoning tables and using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to layout inf

Many web designers seem to be abandoning tables and using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to layout information in a visually identical way. But tables increase the accessibility of tabular information for blind people* using screen readers because they can more easily scroll, page, tab, and move around in the data.

Web pages are created using HTML, the web’s markup language. Like any markup language, it contains hidden tags about unhidden information. Webpages with well-tagged information are advantageous for blind people using screen readers.** Tables are no exception. The TABLE element of HTML has several tags and attributes used to describe a table, its layout, and the data it contains. Tables are a standard way in HTML to describe tabular data. There is no standard way in CSS to display or describe tabular data; crafty web designers can use CSS to simulate tables, but only visually.

The first tag is <table> which creates the table. But in this tag, designers should add attributes that describe the number of rows and columns (“rows,” “cols”). How this is helpful: A blind person may be looking for a table that contains information on all 50 states, but if the table has less than 50 rows, then they can avoid spending time reading this table and move on to find another. In the JAWS screen reading software, there is a function that allows the user to jump from table to table.

The second tag to use is <th> to create a cell in a row. The <th> tag is different from the <td> cell-creating tag in that it describes a header. Writers and publishers (web designers included) often make headers larger or bolder than the subordinate text to indicate the header texts’ significance. But only sighted people can notice these cues. Screen readers will notice the <th> tag as a column heading and the user can pan the columns until they find the column they want – this is especially helpful when the web designer has tables in pages without heading text (probably not a good idea) or uses tables to organize the layout of a page (which designers should avoid).

This screenshot “shows” (many are hidden) several elements of accessibility in a webpage I designed for work. For example, the map is a graphic element that blind users can’t see and screen readers can’t describe. A table below the map describes the information seen on the map and takes the user to the same webpage (with detailed information) as the map markers. The table’s first row uses the <th> tag to indicate the row contains important column headings. Also, the table shows tabular data and the webpage does not use tables to organize the layout of the webpage.

In all HTML layout tags, designers can add a “title” attribute that screen reading software will notice and read to the user. Titles should describe well the information in the tagged text or the text immediately following the tag. Use the “title” attribute on these tags: <table>, <div>, and <a> (to describe links). Multimedia should ALWAYS have the “alt” attribute that describes the graphic (essentially a hidden caption). This is also helpful for people who browse with images turned off, or when your server fails to display the image.

*What is good for blind people is usually good for sighted people.

**A screen reader is software that reads text and commands sighted people would see on a computer monitor, but also reads text and commands that are hidden. With HTML and CSS, web designers can give information and commands in hidden code that speak to blind users. An example of this is a link that enables the user and their screen reader to jump over information to a predefined point, like a navigation area, skipping the introduction text.

Koa Furniture is a maker of handmade wood furniture from Koa, Mango and rare local woods in Hawaii.

Handmade Value Koa Furniture takes time to manufacture. Thus, extensive attention to details is taken to assure you of the highest quality and durability of the product, giving you many years of use. The authenticity of the Koa Furniture maker speaks well for the people behind it.

Koa Furniture - Liliuokalani Rocker, Sculpted Rocking Chair

If you buy Koa furniture is to keep an eye on the variety of Koa woods. Your older furniture may have become somewhat faded and if you bring in a brightly colored piece of new furniture it is really going to make your older furniture look that much older.

Fortunately, Koa furniture comes in many handmade styles. Do you like darker wood or lighter? Do you prefer a more casual, country type look or do you like a more formal and executive style. Or maybe arts and crafts is more your style with a lighter finish. Koa wood furniture has many excellent collections to choose from, Liliuokalani Rocker, Sculpted Rocker, Heritage Rocker, Custom Rocker, Childs Rocker (Sculpted), Rocking Chairs, Barstools, Yoga Seat, Tables, Dining Sets, Childs Crib in distinct colors and styles.

Picking out furniture for your home can be either an exciting adventure or a frustrating one. Most often it’s exciting when you are redecorating a room or perhaps furnishing the room for the first time. When it becomes frustrating is when you have to replace a piece of furniture that you really aren’t financially ready to do but out of necessity must do so.

If you’re buying just one piece of koa furniture that must blend in with furniture that you’ve already had especially if it’s fairly old it can be a little bit more difficult to try and mix the old with the new. However that doesn’t make it impossible. The things you need to be sure of is to take the measurements of where the new piece of furniture is going to go in order to make sure that it fits. You also may want to purchase furniture on the condition that if it doesn’t blend in or work well then it can be returned.

I remember when I was little and went to my first (and last) gymnastics class, my teacher asked me what my favorite tree was.

Picture this; a warm summer evening, a group of friends, some cold beer and sizzling sausages close by on your barbeque pit. One more ideal ingredient would be a picnic table also called a barbeque table by many people. You surely would not want to keep the meat and drinks all on a mat, would you? A picnic table is an outdoor living essential especially if you love to arrange outdoor picnics and barbeques. Today, you have such a huge range of Picnic Tables to choose from that you need to consider the amount of load it would carry, the kind of entertainment you would do and lastly the price that you are willing to pay for the picnic table. Ideally, your portable picnic table should be a combination of good looks and functionality. You can easily choose one over the other. There are some tables that are extremely good looking but do not serve their real purpose. On the other hand, there are some other picnic tables which look slightly crude but they are extremely long lasting and durable. Today, most people expect a lot more from their picnic tables than they did a few years ago.

Buying one

The choice is not just vast; it is extremely diverse as well. There are round, oval, octagonal, rectangular, hexagonal and even custom shaped picnic tables available. When it comes to materials, you can choose from wood, plastic or a combo of metal and synthetic materials. Let us go about each material used to make these portable picnic tables and understand the pros and cons of each.

Wood: Ideally the best one for all kind of furniture. You can choose from teak, oak, western red cedar, cherry, plywood etc. The kind of wood that you choose would depend on your budget. Some of this wood like red cedar and teak are naturally enriched with protective oils. This makes them resistant to any kind of harsh weather and climatic conditions. They naturally age to a nice looking golden color as well. But if you really want them to last long, you have to clean them regularly and coat them with protective chemicals. Quality wooden furniture will be a wonderful aesthetic addition to your patio. You can easily choose one that matches the rest of your indoor furniture.

Plastic: Plastic has quickly become the ideal replacement for wooden furniture because of its cost effectiveness and its weather resistance capabilities. You do not need to protect it with any kind of coating. It is built to last long. But off late there have been some speculations regarding the environment friendliness of plastic and this has led to a lot of people opting for other safer alternatives. Nevertheless, a plastic folding picnic table is one model that never goes out of style. It is light weight, durable and cheap. If you are on a budget, then a plastic portable picnic table is your best option.

Metal: Metal has a vintage touch to it that never ceases to impress me. The intrinsic carved frame made of high quality rust proof stainless steel or cast iron and the powder coated finish are as good as anything that you can buy. A metal picnic table will also last as long as any other provided you take good care of it. Clean it regularly and protect it against rust. You get anti rust chemicals in the market which can be used to keep the metal shining all the time.

So visit any furniture outlet or an online showroom and browse through their catalogue. You will easily find one that fits your budget and matches your decor.
