Suomen laissa on tällä hetkellä ihmeellinen pykälä, jonka perusteella Take-away -ruoka on halvempaa

Suomen laissa on tällä hetkellä ihmeellinen pykälä, jonka perusteella Take-away -ruoka on halvempaa kuin ravintolassa syöty ruoka. Tilanne jatkuu ensi heinäkuuhun, ja pahimmillaan hankaloittaa Helsinkiläisen ravintolakulttuurin kehittymistä.

Onni onnettomuudessa: Paha Kollektiivilla on ratkaisu.

Pitää perustaa ruokasalonki johonkin keskikokoiseen liiketilaan keskusta-alueella.

Contro: nulla.

This place knows how to do a good burger. It’s usually my first stop when I hit Melbourne – knowing that it will be a quick feed and relatively more healthier than all the other fast food chains. It’s a gourmet burger with unique flavours, fresh buns, grilled meat and they are super generous with their sauces and salad.

Our first round involves the Zen Hen, grilled chicken breast with all the fat trimmed off, tangy satay sauce, coriander, salad and herbed mayo. And there is something special with their sauce which ties the entire burger together. Our second round involves the Summer Sunset, with grilled lean beef, salad, relish and herbed mayo. I did enjoy this burger as well, but after halfway, I began to grow tired of the taste – it was most probably due to the tad dryness of the beef which was grilled and already lean. We also overindulged and shared a large serving of their herbed chips – and I’m so glad we did.

Intriguing. The menu layout, their mascot and their movie feature played on their display screen. After a heat and physically exhausting shopping adventure around Docklands, we settled for the quickest and easiest option for the quick feed. My first reaction to the burger was the smell of the sauce – its similarity to the Mac sauce was uncanny; a little less fragrant but very very close. It was a good burger – well constructed, soft buns, tender meat patty and generous fillings. The chips on the other hand were complimented again and again by my food companion, a confessed chip lover. I couldn’t tell the difference, but apparently he could.

One of the most expensive pass-times that I happen to indulge in on a regular basis (Okay okay, dail

One of the most expensive pass-times that I happen to indulge in on a regular basis (Okay okay, daily) is online shopping. Sometimes I browse for something specific (A book, DVD or perfume) or just stumble across an impulse buy.

During both my glee and fiscal regret that has accompanied this habit, my friends and family have piped up saying they didn’t know how to find Online Shopping Sites. I was flabbergasted. In this day and age, I thought everybody knew! So I thought, why not blog about my most frequented sites?

Drumroollll….

1) Trademe – www.trademe.co.nz – Okay, so even if you were living under a rock for most of your life, you would have heard of Trademe. But it’s a goodie, so it goes straight on my list. Trademe is where members can both sell and buy items, used and new, in online auctions. Some retailers have a Trademe “Shop Profile” where they sell their stock online, but mostly it’s individuals selling of unwanted gifts, clothing, cars and more. If you can think it, it’s probably for sale on this site.

2) FishPond – www.fishpond.co.nz – New Zealand’s biggest online bookstore, Fishpond sells books (New, but there are some second hand options) for very competitive prices. Amazing selection, including CD’s and DVD’s now, sourced directly from the distributors and sent to your door. Plus, if you spend NZD$50.00 or more you get free shipping… and to sweeten the deal, every now and then Fishpond sends you NZD$10.00 coupons via email.

3) 1-Day – www.1-day.co.nz – 1-Day is a site that has three items for sale every single day. At noon, the three items get updated with three new options and so on. The items can be anything, from clothing to gadgets, but I find that there tends to be items for men approximately 60% of the time, which sucks for the ladies. Addictive, one of the easiest sites to impulse buy on.

4) 3deals – www.3deals.co.nz – This is another site that works exactly the same way as 1-Day – Three items updated every day at noon. There is a point of difference though – The items seem to be for women about 60% of the time. (Guess life really does equal out at the end of the day, huh?) This site is the best for make-up deals and cookware.

5) Dealaday – www.dealaday.co.nz – This site is similar to the previous two in the sense that it updates every day with it’s daily deal, but the difference being it only ever has one item on special and the fact it updates at 10 AM rather than noon. It tends to feature mainly gadgets and tech stuff, as well as an awful lot for kids/babies. Great deals though.

6) Off The Back – www.offtheback.co.nz – This is a site much like 1-Day and 3deals that updates every day with three main items that are on special. It sometimes has the most amazing products, but at other times falls short. The items chosen tend to be either quite expensive (Despite discount) or a bit cheap and tacky. But there are also a few good gems that turn up on this site. The products that tend to show up the most are gadgets, camera equipment and computer extras.

7) I Want That – www.iwantthat.co.nz – This is an online store that has a lot of unique products. Everything from funny coasters to gun shaped vases; this store has it. Lot’s of specials, but it’s quality goods so not exactly cheap. Great for gift buying.

8 ) OO – www.oo.com.au – This is an Australian online shopping website that delivers to New Zealand, and it has some really funky items. Everything from fitness gear, kitchen appliances, electronics and wine. Not cheap, but there are some really good specials and some things that are extremely hard to find anywhere else. Worth a look, definitely.

9) Sella – www.sella.co.nz – A cheap mans Trademe. It’s not as good, but it runs the same way and has done the trick in the past when I haven’t been able to find an item on Trademe. Sella is ok… Not great. Just ok.

10) Zillion – www.zillion.co.nz – See above for my Sella description. Exactly the same deal. Can’t beat Trademe, I’m afraid.

11) The Warehouse – www.thewarehouse.co.nz – We all know the Big Red Shed, but did you know you can purchase things on their website now? Not everything is available to buy this way yet, but more and more gets added each week. Things like DVD’s, CD’s and jewellery are items you can purchase online, at the same discounted prices you get in store.

12) Ed Hardy – www.edhardy.co.nz – Anyone who knows me knows that I love Ed Hardy designs. The online store has the full in-store range available, including specials.

13) Amazon – www.amazon.com – Okay, so this is a U.S. store but it really is terrific. It sells almost everything but its the most famous for it’s massive assortment of books. Great range – amazing even – but despite super cheap prices you get massively stung on the international shipping. (So yeah, great for Americans!)

14) Paper Plus – www.paperplusbooks.co.nz – If you don’t feel like going into a Paper Plus store, then go to their site to find a great read. It’s not the cheapest, but it has the most information about the books, along with recommendations and picks for book clubs. Just great when you feel like a good book but have no idea where to start.

15) Glassons – www.glassons.co.nz – It’s not a groundbreaking site, but it has the usual good Glassons staples. Quality, fairly cheap clothing without having to mingle with obnoxious teens in overly lit malls.

16) 599 – www.599fashion.com – Another American site, but one I really like. It sells a massive load of tops, along with a smaller selection of dresses, skirts and belts. And here is the great news. Everything is USD$5.99. Okay so not so cheap when you convert it, but not half bad either. The clothes are super cute and funky, good quality too. The shipping’s a bit “Ouch” but it’s made up for by the cheap products.

17) Zazzle – www.zazzle.co.nz – A site that sells good quality t-shirts with any design you could possibly conceive on it – plus you can design your own. Kind of pricey, but as I said, the quality is what counts here. Great selection.

18) Mr Vintage – www.mrvintage.co.nz – A world famous site in New Zealand! This site sells t-shirts and hoodies with every kind of Kiwiana theme you can imagine. NZ brands, quotes, pop culture – you name it. Great deals daily, plus great gifts for overseas loved ones. Just a funky site for anyone who is proud to be a Kiwi.

19) Mighty Ape – www.mightyape.co.nz – Another good online store to buy books, DVD’s, CD’s and computer stuff. Not the cheapest, but it has a great range and sometimes products you just can’t get elsewhere.

20) Crazy Sales – www.crazysales.co.nz – This is one of those sites that sells everything. Well, almost anyway. Kids toys, fitness gear, musical instruments, beauty products and even rugs. I could go on, but you get the drift. It’s a mish-mash of glorious oddities, has a great selection of gift ideas as well as useful day-to-day items. Great deals, although it’s not the $2 shop! (Hmm, that’d be a great online store!)

21) EziBuy – www.ezibuy.co.nz – This is a great online store that has a massive selection of clothing – from the basics to a few surprisingly beautiful pieces. Shoes, lingerie, dresses, tops, jackets, swimwear… It’s not fashion chic, but hey, work it with one designer piece (Maybe a Guess bag? Mmmm…) and no one will ever know. Or care.

22) Supre – www.supre.com.au – Supre stores are littered around New Zealand, so you might not really see the point in shopping online and paying shipping from Australia. But I’m not inclined to see it that way. Supre has some super cute and funky clothes (If you steer away from the slut-wear and 80’s reject fluro items) and it’s nice to be able to browse through them all without a million angry teenage girls pushing past you as they viciously chew gum and sing along (badly) to the Britney Spears song playing waaaaayyyyy too loud on the speaker system. So yes, I prefer Supre from the relative safety of my laptop. Plus, although the shipping to New Zealand is about NZD$17.50, the clothing isn’t expensive so it’s totally worth it.

23) Foodtown/Woolworths – www.foodtown.co.nz or www.woolworths.co.nz – Okay, so not the most exciting kind of shopping. But nothing beats getting to pick all the items that you want and having it brought right to your door. There is a set delivery fee which isn’t too bad, and you can get same day delivery. Brilliant. And totally lazy… But ahhh, I sure don’t miss those supermarket crowds!

24) Foodrunner – www.foodrunner.co.nz – Okay, while I’m on the lazy food bent, here is a site where you key in your location and it tells you which restaurants are available to you in your area. From there you can pick your food (Thai, Pizza, Italian etc) and pay online with a delivery fee of about NZD$12.50 (Steep, but remember, the idea here is pure laziness) and they bring it to your door. Brilliant when you’re working late, it’s raining and you don’t want to go out or if you’re sick.

25) Apple – www.apple.com/nz – Apple products are a thing of beauty. I will blog about my love for the Mac later on, but the NZ Apple site is great for purchasing anything to sate your Apple needs. This site just makes me happy.

26) Ezydeal – www.ezydeal.co.nz – Much like 1Day and 3Deals, it has three amazing specials every day. It seems to have a really good mix of make-up, gifts, gadgets and toys for kids. Really impressed with the prices too! My only issue with it is that it only runs Monday to Friday, so weekends are out for shopping!

27) SnatchADeal – www.snatchadeal.co.nz – Once again, this site offers three deals every day (11AM to 11AM the following day) and has a phenomenal choice of items. What’s more, if they have anything left over from previous days there is a section where you can still purchase those items! Wonderful idea, great site with exceptional prices.
Alrighty then! That’s my overzealous list of my fave online shopping sites! Hopefully I haven’t lead anyone down the road to financial ruin!

I judge a good chip by its crunch, generosity of potato (thick-cut but not wedges) and a thin coating. Every time we visit Melbourne, we are sure to pay Lord of the Fries a visit. Nested inside Flinders Street station, the menu for this hot chip joint is amazing – it boasts internationally influenced sauces from Thai, Belgian, Mexican, Aussie, Indian, African and even, French-Canadian.

It’s always a struggle to decide between the sauces but as we both were salivating from the thought of last year’s sauce, we settled for the French-Canadian, which was hot brown gravy over melted cheese and it is such a genius combination! My fellow foodie, a confessed hot chip addict, found this round’s chips had too much cheese, and a cheese lover himself, I was surprised – although, I still thoroughly enjoyed the fries. You can taste real potato and crunchiness; exactly the way I like it.

Take out tends to only taste good when you’re drunk or desperately hungry – but why order take out when you can ‘take in’ at home. The greasy spoon favourites don’t need to come with extra helpings of MSG; you can cook all the take away classics in your own home without the disgrace of being surrounded by polystyrene cartons in the morning. More…

There’s a great food market on Whitecross Street on Thursdays and Fridays; I often pop along on a Friday for a lunchtime treat. There are stalls selling everything from pasta to pork sandwiches, various curries from across Asia, Mexican tortillas, chorizo sandwiches, lovely home made pies and of course the inevitable olives, breads and cheeses.

I like to think I’m not a conservative person by nature; if there’s something new to try I’ll usually give it a go, especially when it comes to food. However, I do find that when I come to Whitecross Street I’ll walk past these wonderful stalls and their international produce, and the reason is that the chippy right in the middle of the street does some of the best chips in London. As a big fan of fish and chips, this is difficult to ignore.

OK, I’ve had better chips – up north, and in Scotland – but I don’t think I’ve had better than these in London. Crisp, golden, not too greasy. Lovely fish too, and not expensive. Fish and chips can set you back around £10 in many of the London chips shops that garner critical acclaim, such as Toff’s in Muswell Hill or The Sea Shell on Lisson Grove, but here a cod bite and chips for £2.20 is a great lunch with enough left out of a fiver for a pint in the Wetherspoons on Old Street, if you feel like really celebrating a Friday (The Masque Haunt offers a very good range of well kept real ales in this better-than-average Wetherspoon). You can eat in, or watch the market in full swing on one of the tables outside. What more can you ask?

The atmosphere here on Thursdays and Fridays is great, the food market seems to be having a significant influence. As well as the market there are new, permanent food places opening up – including a new Waitrose. Come down, check it out for yourself, and try to resist the Cosy Supper Bar.

p.s. I took a picture, however my phone doesn’t seem to want to talk to my computer for some reason. Hopefully they’ll make up soon.

So, the first post and where better to begin than Franco’s, stalwart of the Shoreditch daytime

So, the first post and where better to begin than Franco’s, stalwart of the Shoreditch daytime eating scene.

Franco’s has been here since the year dot, serving breakfasts, classic deli sandwiches as well as a range of hot foods – mostly pasta. Franco’s will not win prizes for originality but the queue that forms invariably each weekday lunchtime tells you all you need to know about the quality. In an area as notoriously fickle as this inspiring such loyalty is no mean feat.

The staff turnover here is low and the years of experience pay off, with customers both at the counter and at the few tables at the back dealt with efficiently and professionally. That’s not to say without charm; there’s good banter, especially for the regulars.

The food is also good; sandwiches are generously filled and guaranteed to satisfy even the most substantial appetite. Pasta is likewise filling, but I find the taste doesn’t quite live up to the amazing garlic smell that has drawn me in so often as I walked by. Breakfasts are up to scratch, nothing fancy but better than most sausage or bacon sandwiches in the area and reasonably priced.

There are plenty of shops within a 30 second walk if you want to save a few pence on your pop and crisps, I go to the one on Curtain Road.

In an area full of sandwich shops, Franco’s is the godfather. It produces quality, effortless fare and oozes charisma. Highly recommended.

2) questo implica che è in grado (in potenza e in atto) di fare solo una cosa per volta;

4) conosco chiaramente solo uomini monotasca!!

TOC TOC

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gpc5_3B5xdk

M: CINESE?

Io: Sì

M: CI CONQUISTA?

Io: NON CREDO…ALLORA?

Io: CHE VUOI? DECIDI E PIU’ TARDI CHIAMO IO

M: OK (e fissa lo schermo)

Io: OK!

M: Sì

Io:…SSSì! MOS NEL SENSO…DECIDI E DIMMELO!!

M: PECCATO NON C’E’ IL FOGLIETTO DELL’ALTRO CINESE NO? QUELLO HA PASTA SALTATA CON VITELLO

Io: Sì, UN PECCATO, MO MI DICI CHE VUOI?

M: (lui ride)…UN ATTIMO….(ajhdkjlshf wiu) PARTE SOLO L’AUDIO CAZZO!

Io: Sì! MOSSSSSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEEEEEE MI DICI CHE VUOI????????????????

M:(ride) ARRIVO ARRIVO! (chiaramente senza r)

Io: ALLORA…TI AIUTO…IO POLLO FRITTO E INVOLTINI PRIMAVERA…TU VUOI GLI INVOLTINI PRIMAVERA?

M: QUALI SONO? (e lo chiede ogni santa volta!)

I already told about the amazing schedule the Canary Wharf has – You can definitely feel the working hour rhythm here. This post will be about particular hour in this part of clerk’s life – the lunch brake.

Streets are suddenly full and everybody is standing in the queues. For interest of everybody there are no sitting at the table or waiting for the menu. If You suddenly came here for the first time, it is Your problem – stay in the queue and just repeat, what previous one said. There is no time for asking or looking, which food looks tastier, just tell it, than it can be prepared, packed and ready for “take away”.

And now the thing I don’t understand – what after? Where should I go with my food? Actually, where everybody goes with their “take aways”? I haven’t found that place yet. I sat in the park near by my seminar place and there was just couple of clerks, who were enjoying the tasty food they have it in Canary Wharf. I think everybody else is in their office.

For example, this ir perfect for eating at the office – sushi take-away:

Now, this is something, which reminds me about IKEA and it’s idea of packing. Perfect. Haven’t seen anywhere else. You can see there is all You need for it – even a soy souce is in the little plastic bottle. Only in Canary Wharf – perfect place for fast food and take away.

And this really was a lunch for one of the workers from the Canary Wharf.

It is open 7 days a week from 5pm – 11pm.

The food is marvellous in this humble blogger’s opinion.

However – what is on the menu? Would it be useful if you could find out by visiting the Blog?

The Hedon Blog could feature the menu from this restaurant and from others in the immediate area. We could also feature reviews from customers.

Is this a service you would use?

The Fractured Prune 127th & Coastal Highway Ocean City MD You’d never think that someplace

The Fractured Prune
127th & Coastal Highway
Ocean City MD

You’d never think that someplace called “The Fractured Prune” is practically a gourmet doughnut shop, but it is. Discovered via FoodNetwork and Meghan, The Fractured Prune is an Ocean City-based chain doughnut shop in Maryland, Delaware, Florida, Mississippi, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia (a list of their exact locations can be found on the website). Their specialty is hot, hand-dipped, made-to-order, made-your-way doughnuts.

Doughnuts at The Fractured Prune can be customized with glazes, toppings, and sugars.

Glazes come in 15 flavors: honey, banana, chocolate, maple, cherry, strawberry, lemon, raspberry, orange, peanut butter, blueberry, mocha, mixed berry, mint, and caramel.

There are 7 toppings: rainbow sprinkles, chocolate jimmies, coconut, peanuts, Oreo cookie, mini chocolate chips, and graham cracker crumbs.

And there are 3 sugars: powdered sugar, granulated sugar, and cinnamon sugar.

Are you overwhelmed yet? Don’t be. The Fractured Prune also has a menu of pre-selected combinations, like “Banana Nut Bread” (banana glaze, cinnamon sugar, and peanuts), “Strawberry Shortcake” (strawberry glaze, graham cracker crumbs, and powdered sugar), and “Black Forest” (raspberry glaze, coconut, and mini chocolate chips). Ordering off this specialty menu is a good way to get familiar with Fractured Prune doughnuts, and you can customize or expand from there. I, for instance, ordered Banana Nut Bread without the peanuts, which was just a doughnut with banana glaze and cinnamon sugar. I could have added coconut or mini chocolate chips instead. Because they’re made and dipped to order, you can ask for any combination of glaze, topping, and sugar that tickles your fancy. During our vacation we sampled the Morning Buzz, Reese’s Cup, Plain Jane, Peppermint Patty, French Toast, Banana Nut Bread (minus the nuts), and Myrna Medley.

Because the doughnuts are hot, the glazes and toppings melt right in to the doughnut and the doughnut itself melts in your month. The base flavor of the doughnut is not overly sweet, as I discovered when I sampled the Plain Jane. This is a good thing, or else the fully-loaded doughnut would be too sweet to eat. The only downside to the hot doughnut is that when all the flavors do melt together, it is difficult to savor each of the flavors individually: the French Toast is not maple glaze and cinnamon sugar as two separate tastes and textures, it is one melty mapley cinnamony sweet concoction. And unfortunately, when the doughnut starts to cool, as it inevitably will, the melted sugar-and-glaze combination starts to harden in to a candy shell.

If you’re near a Fractured Prune and the doughnut mood strikes, stop in and give them a try. I’m already making a list in my head of which ones I want to try the next time I’m in Ocean City. But I’m not going to drive 8-10 hours to OC just for a hot, hand-dipped, homemade doughnut. It’ll be the whole OC package that brings me back, of which the Fractured Prune is only part of the treat.

The Fergburger

As Mos Burger was Japan’s burger, Fergburger was described as New Zealand’s Burger. Our house was conveniently located 5 minutes away from the main shopping village so we were all grinning ear to ear when we found this place without a dilemma.

The lines for this restaurant is amazing – most probably due to fact that there is only one in store in New Zealand and it’s snow bunny galore. People still in their snow pants are cuddled outside the heaters in the courtyard, either eagerly waiting for a table or their take away order. For a big group like ours (10), I definitely recommend doing a phone order and eating in the comfort and warmth of your own home.

The burger itself is enormous, which kept all the boys throughly happy.. up until they were thumping their chest as they felt like a heart attack coming along. The burger didn’t live up to the stories of what I’ve heard – the patty was rather dry and the buns were mediocre; the two main things I personally look for in a good burger. Although, there is something about the sauce, Fergburger has defined “their” sauce as much as how McDonald’s has their mac sauce, and it’s probably the aioli that has saved them.
