I love my children to no end but why is there always something coming out of their fricken mouths? A sound, a noise, a burp, a farting noise, nonsense, questions, bossiness, screaming, yelling, tattling… always something coming out of their mouths.

I almost never get silence.

This is why I need to get out of my home, my comfort zone every day and take these boys to the park or somewhere else where other people can suffer alongside me with their incessant yelling, screaming, and noise-making.

Because I’m considerate like that. Sure they’re cute, but they’re loud!

We pull up to the park and like screaming banshees in the night, they jump out of the van before I can turn it off and they’re already on the play equipment. Or in the trees, like my oldest monkey.

I remember spending hours climbing trees when I was his age. It was so much fun but I never realized why my mom didn’t approve. Oh, I get it now. But, I’ve given up the tree-climbing argument with him anyway.

Even the little one is gaining more instruction from the big one about how to climb everything in sight. Which is awesome for my anxiety, by the way.

And the oddest part? I didn’t hear my children for minutes! They played and kept to themselves like well-behaved young men. WTH?

Today was a beautiful day to be outside. We spent the morning at a park with some friends and both Z and V had fun.

Z loves our friends’ kids. Here he is hugging Livia. It’s so sweet when he does that. And we don’t even tell him to.

When we took our children to the park, the only thing our youngest, at 21 months, could do was climb about a foot up one of the giant tube slides. At one point while she was doing this, a boy around five-years-old, was coming down the slide, causing a slight jumble. My husband said, “Hey, no pushing.” So the boy’s father, sitting nearby said, “Be nice to the little girl.” To which my husband had to somewhat shamefully reply, “Actually, it was my daughter who was doing the pushing.”

True confessions time-I have never liked taking the kids to the park. There is something about pushing them on the swing(endlessly) or being asked(constantly)to climb the jungle gym,or even just sitting on the benches with otheer moms and nanny’s that I detest. Simon, who will be 3 in a few weeks was only taken to a park and “swung” earlier this year, for the first time,by a friend. Yesterday however, on my own accord, offered to take them to the “park”.

The "park"

The “park” is Tunnels Beach, a 5 minute walk past a reef full of sea turtles from our house. Ted and Sam had decided to do the 1/2 mile paddle out from Tunnels to the surfing spot and so I asked the younger set it they wanted to walk down with them to go to the “swings”.

The "swings"

Theo,Ollie & Simon spent 2 hours creating a park of their own. They swung, climbed, jumped, dug in the sand, made a boat out of a log and surfed.
