Antes de nada, bienvenidos a mi blog. Espero seros de ayuda en cuanto a literatura se refiere jejeje Ahora, vayamos al grano.

El primer libro del que os voy a hablar es Uglies(me niego a llamarlo Traicion aunque lo hayan traducido asi aqui en España).

Mi opinion:

Este libro supera el genero de juvenil-romantico solo con su tematica. Tal vez suene a libro tipico, pero no lo es. La narracion es rapida y engancha, rapidamente te identificas con los personajes aunque su mundo este a varios siglos de distancia y para ellos seamos unos “oxidados” que estuvimos a punto de destruir la tierra. ¿Ciencia ficcion? Alguna, pero solo en los artefactos que se usan y en el año en que ocurre, aunque yo no veo tan improbable que ocurriese lo que el libro narra. Te hace pensar si tu terminarias siendo una perfecta mas o si, por el contrario, te unirias a los rebeldes del humo y lucharias por tener una vida normal aun sin ser perfecto. Porque de eso se trata todo. ¿Esta permitido manipular a la gente para lograr que el planeta sobreviva? ¿Para tener un mundo mejor es necesario vovlernos a todos tontos y dociles? La Dra. Cable cree que si y por ello envia a Tally tras Shay. Pero esta pronto descubre que ella no pina igual.

Los personajes son reales, tanto como cualquiera, tienen miedos y dudas, y meten la pata una vez tras otra. Al menos no se puede decir que la protagonista sea la damisela en apuros o una Mary Sue. El unico fallo que le veo es lo poco que profundiza en las relaciones de los personajes, en lo amorosamente hablando. Aunque claro, como ya he dicho antes, no creo que su genero sea el romantico, asi que no tiene porque hacerlo.

The Album Leaf is done recording and mixing their record in Iceland.  Now back in San Diego, they are getting ready for a winter tour in support of the album, A Chorus of Storytellers, that comes out on February 2nd (2010) on Sub Pop.

They’ll be at the Doug Fir Lounge in Portland on Feb 5th (per the club’s mailer)!!  I missed their show this past winter (Jan ‘09) due to busy season at work.  Same situation this year, but I’m planning on going regardless of it. More tour dates will follow when they’re announced…

I actually like this book so far. The people are happy, they don’t need hope to get by, and, ultimately, no turtles. In this book, everyone has an extensive amount of money, and they aren’t quite sure what to do with it. The cool character, gatsby, gets what he wants, and helps people out, which is new. It’ll probably be detrimental in the end, because it wouldn’t be an english book unless it ended in sorrow (I’m serious, there is like a 0-32 record here), but we’re along for the ride, and should enjoy it while it lasts. F. Scott Fitzgerald is a good author, who never got credit for his literary talents. This is definetely a good book that might even have a hidden moral (along with a few symbols) that makes this influetial.

Inledningsvis
Det kan vara riktigt svårt! Man skall tänka på att förbereda sig, att inte tala för länge
och att ha en bra inledning. Börja aldrig ett tal med att säga att du är en dålig talare!

Tänk också på att du måste öva, att du skall tala som om det vore till en kompis och att
det är inte farligt om det blir tyst några sekunder.
Churchill sa att ett tal på 3 min tar tre veckor att förbereda, ett tal på 3 timmar klarar man att förbereda på 3 minuter!

Välkomsttalet
Detta skall infalla när gästerna kommit till bords. Avsluta med “Skål och välkomna!” Försök hålla dig kring max 1 minut.

Middagstal
Ett sådant kommer mot slutet av varmrätten, så gästerna inte behöver sitta med kall mat efter ditt tal. Max 3-5 minuter.

Tacktalet
Detta håller hedersgästen, eller den person som vid en middag har värdinnan till bordet. är det ett tjänsteuppdrag är det den person som har värden till vänster som håller talet. Det talet hålls mot slutet av desserten och kan vara på ca 2-3 minuter.

Bröllopstal – Att hålla tal på bröllop

Släkt och vänner vill ofta hålla tal under middagen. Man meddelar toastmaster att man vill hålla tal. Enligt traditionen står brudens far högst på talarlistan, han börjar med att välkomna alla gäster och särskilt de som har kommit långväga. Resten av talet kan innehålla höjdpunkter i brudens liv eller från barndomen och även välkomna den nya svärsonen in i familjen.

Nästföljande på talarlistan är övriga föräldrar, syskon, mor- och farföräldrar samt övrig släkt och vänner. Det är inte alla som vill eller känner sig bekväma med att hålla tal. En av föräldrarna, tärna och marskalk förväntas dock hålla någon form av tal.

Här följer några tips på vad som kan vara bra att tänka på när man håller ett tal.

* Öva gärna talet inför en vän före bröllopet
* Stå upp, då ser alla vem som talar och kan då sitta stilla i sina stolar.
* Försök att tala högt och tydligt. De som inte hör känner sig annars utanför.
* Ha gärna talet nedskrivet, men försök att inte sänka ansiktet mot pappret då ljudet går ned mot golvet istället för ut i lokalen.
* Ha gärna något att hålla i under talet tex. en penna, annars vet man ofta inte vad man ska göra av händerna, det underlättar även fokuseringen på talet.
* Titta gärna på de som talet riktar sig till, åtminstone då och då.
* Tala inte för fort.
* Håll hellre talet kort och koncist än för långt och utdraget, om talet blir för långt kan gästerna lätt tappa koncentrationen och bli otåliga.

De flesta är nervösa inför ett tal och det är fullt naturligt. Tänk på att ett tal inte behöver vara en så komplicerad historia, de flesta gäster föredrar till och med lite kortare och lättsamma tal.

Det finns många variationer på hur ett tal kan hållas, ibland förekommer sång och rimhyllningar tillägnat brudparet.
Vänner kan bygga upp sitt tal utifrån gemensamma upplevelser och gamla tider. Tänk bara på att det inte är rätt dag att genera brud/brudgum eller göra dem påminda om saker de helst vill glömma.

En bra idé kan vara att presentera det eventuella möhippe- svensexealbumet i sitt tal, förutsatt att det är av sådan karaktär att det tål att visas på festen. Det kan sedan skickas runt under middagen och brukar vara uppskattat av alla nyfikna gäster.

Här följer citat med ord om kärlek och äktenskap från okända och berömda män och kvinnor. De kanske kan avändas som inledning på talet eller som en slutknorr. Här har vi även samlat hundratals andra visdomsord och kärlekscitat.

I have tons of This American Life episodes on my iPod; when I’m cooking or cleaning or riding the bus, I like to listen to people telling stories, and there’s nothing better for that than TAL. I was listening to the episode titled “Go Ask Your Father,” which is about confronting your parents—about wanting to sort out the rubbish from your childhood with them, but that the person you’re mad at doesn’t exist anymore. Whether your parents are dead or just decades older, they aren’t the parents you want to confront; those parents, younger and less experienced, are gone. It’s the first time I’ve listened to this one since before I was pregnant, before the adoption, and it is infinitely sadder than it was a couple of years ago.

I don’t at all think that adoptee rage is unjustified, or inappropriate, or that adoptees need my permission to be angry—I mention this just to provide context for the embarrassing half of this thought. I tend to avoid adoptee blogs and adoptee sections of mixed-triad forums, don’t go to the mixed-triad group therapy offered by my social worker. I would really like to be able to let go of this fear of Cricket’s possible future rage. I think the odds are good that he won’t be particularly angry, as his parents are super adoring and attentive and thoughtful—and of course I am coming to birthday parties, bringing presents, letting him know that I’m thinking of him with love throughout the year.

A part of me wants to write to This American Life and talk about my changing perspective on that episode—what could be more in the spirit of TAL than talking about your experience of their stories?—I know that they once did short piece on an expectant mother making an adoption plan, but I think that they still might be interested to read my fan mail. But then, if no one I’ve heard of read the letter—if an intern read it and threw it out, or just threw it out, period—I’d be embarrassed. I am perhaps a little strange.

I was very pleased to see the box arrive at my door. It was heavy! So have a helper or be prepared to drag it in the house!

Assemble was a little confusing, but that could just be me. Got it all together and started right away. It glided easily and the adjustments to increase difficulty were/are easy to make.

I really like the machine. So why the 4 Rating? Well, after 3 months some plastic round things started dropping from the underside. I had no idea what it was and figured it was something on the bench because when I looked under it, I saw nothing missing or wrong. Two more months and now it is grinding metal to metal and will not “slide” as the plastic round things I am guessing, are either the wheels or protect the wheels; another round “cog” looking plastic thing fell and that is when it started grinding.

Amazon is no longer responsible to help me, I understand that. Trying to contact the Total Gym number from their website and am waiting on a return call. I am hoping to get a new set of “wheels” and that the repair will be easy.

The price here at Amazon.com is the BEST and I do not think this breakdown is due to that. I bet it would have happened if I spent over the $2000 the Total Gym wanted for the same product from the infomercial.

I did not keep my papers from the box handy so need to look for it. There might be something in there for what to do in my situation.

Bottom-line:

Great price.

Moderate assembly skill/ time required.

Keep your information from the mfg. at hand.

If you see anything drop from it…call it in immediately.

Easy to use and is enjoyable.

TIE your long hair up…it will get caught in the pulley! [first hand knowledge on this one.]

It does take up a lot of room unless you fold it up every time you are done with it.

So there you have it.

Been using it for about 3 weeks now and still love it. I haven’t done many lower body exercises but it will work your upper body great!!! If I had to do it again I would have gotten a lower model since I haven’t used the attachments yet. Would recommend to someone wanting to say in shape in 20-30 mins a day.

I wrote the other day about the names we have chosen for the newest bundle of joy we are going to bring into our lives this upcoming June (or so says The Birthing Center www.waterbirthbaby.com.) We have Liam Avett for a boy or Ryver Echo for a girl. I was discussing this the other day with Jada, our oldest daughter who turns the big ol’ number 5 in March (man, where does the time go?) And yes, I was having a full blown discussion about it since she’s not only going to be 5, but she’s pretty much 4 going on 25. Jada looked at me seriously and said, “I think if it’s a boy he should be called Shark Boy and if we have a girl she’ll be called Rubber Girl.” I thought about it for a moment and began to explain why we shouldn’t name our new baby Shark Boy or Rubber Girl, but Jada heard nothing of it. She simply shook her head and said her pick for names again carefully and then she turned and went to her room to play.
So, I suppose we have a couple of other names to add to our roster. Liam Avett or Shark Boy, Ryver Echo or Rubber Girl. The choice will be hard, but we’ll manage.

Today while sitting with her on the couch Jada looked at me and asked the question most parents dread, “Daddy, where do babies come from?” She’s 4 remember. I believe I may have stammered. Instead of giving her a silly answer like the age old Stork story I just ignored it and changed the subject. Then I sent my wife a text and told her. It’s not that I am scared to talk about where babies come from, but come on, she’s 4.

We received the window vinyl for our car which advertises The Little Quirky Shoppe. We also got the bumper stickers that certain friends of ours said they would put on their cars (they are magnetic of course). We are constantly looking for the best, quirky vintage stuff to put up in the store while Sharayah creates jewelry, etc…

And to end this blog for the evening I’d like to share a book with you all. A Room for Learning: The Making of A School in Vermont by Tal Birdsey (www.talbirdsey.com). It looks amazing and super inspirational. From what I gather, after reading the book jacket at Barnes and Noble tonight, it’s about a man (true story, memoir) Tal, who starts a school in nowhere Vermont and takes some adolescent kids who know little and inspires them to be great using music, art and literature. I WANT THIS TO BE ME! So, I’ve requested it for Christmas. Actually, I want it before Christmas, maybe around Thanksgiving so that during Christmas Break I can read it because who has time to read for fun while a full-time student, 2 kids a wife and then “work”? Not I.

Inches, that is. (Actually, more like a smidge under fifteen when laid perfectly flat, but hey, I’ll take it.) The pattern says to knit 16.5 inches for my size, but as I am a little anxious about running out of yarn (and short-waisted, and generally seem to knit my sweaters a tad too long), I’m going to knit to 15.5, the length for the smallest size, and call it good.

Last night, friends hosted a Radio Party potluck, which meant we all brought food, drank wine, and listened to This American Life at the appropriate time. I got in about an hour and a half of solid knitting on my plain and simple pullover, and I’m going to try to finish the body before getting back to my pile of grading this morning.

Also, for documentation purposes, I snapped a picture of my hair last night.

I’m aiming for low, braided pigtails. Not quite long enough yet, but getting there…

I’ve had a long day. I just realized that since I got up in the morning (around 8 a.m. or so), I’ve only spent 20 minutes at the house.

So instead of writing a long post tonight, I’m keeping things short, and will update again sometime tomorrow with a longer post.

Tonight, I’m giving a shout out to the esteemed bunch of people who put out the radio show This American Life. These guys put together a very enjoyable, sharply presented method of telling stories based on a theme, and they’ve recently helped me out a lot.

Like most of you (I’m sure), I don’t have the time or patience to dissect the current health care debate from all the opinions that are cluttering the airwaves and the newspapers.

It just seems like this massive, complex issue that I can’t possibly wrap my head around. When I try to, things get frustrating. For a lot of us, fighting the temptation to bang your head against the desk just isn’t worth it.

Fortunately, This American Life has simplified the whole thing, and, amazingly, actually made it interesting to listen to.

There are two episodes that deal with health care. The first is called “More is Less”, while the second is called “Someone Else’s Money”.

Each episode is about an hour long, and can either be listened to online, or through the This American Life podcast, which you can find in the iTunes store. This is some of the best story-telling of our era, and is definitely worth the listen. Enjoy.

Das Laub fällt langsam ab, die Weinreben sind geerntet, Nebelschwaden ziehen schon manchmal auf, Herbst in Italien. Die Fahrt führt mich durch eine Hügellandschaft. Nach der nächsten Biegung öffnet sich der Blick auf ein sanft geschwungenes Tal, an dessen Hänge die goldgelben Blätter der Weinstöcke im Licht der Sonne des späten Nachmittags leuchten. Oberhalb, auf einem kleinen Hügel, liegt ein Landgut. Das Hauptgebäude ist schon halb mit Weinranken verwachsen, die nun ebenfalls in der herbstlichen Farbenpracht erstrahlen. Die alte Mauer, die wahrscheinlich einst das ganze Landgut umgab, steht nur mehr in Fragmenten. Aber noch deutlich genug, um den Besucher zu beeindrucken.

Ich biege bei der nächsten Villa ab und fahre durch Weingärten, vorbei an einem einsam gelegenen Friedhof und nach ein paar weiteren Kurven bleibe ich auf einem Schotterplatz stehen. Wenige Schritte führen mich zu einer Agriturismo, einem landwirtschaftlichen Betrieb, der Speisen anbietet und manchmal auch Zimmer vermietet. Ein Mann betritt die Wirtsstube, bekommt ein Glas Wein und schwatzt ein wenig mit den Leuten – Ombra nennen es die Menschen im Veneto – ein Gläschen nach Feierabend mit Freunden zu nehmen, bevor es nach Hause geht.

Draußen versinkt der Feuerball der Sonne hinter den Hügeln, wieder beginnen sich Nebel und Dunkelheit übers Land zu senken. Aus einem großen Blutzer, einer überdimensionalen Weinflasche, füllt der Wirt Wein in Flaschen und schenkt die Gläser ein. Bei einem Glaserl "Vino dolce", wie der heurige Wein, der Sturm, manchmal in Italien bezeichnet wird und ein paar Happen Prosciutto und Käse, lasse ich den Tag noch einmal in Gedanken vorüber ziehen.

Er begann mit einem Spaziergang durch jenes alte Dorf, das noch komplett von einer Zinnen gekrönten Mauer umgeben ist. Kopfsteinpflaster in den Gassen, überall war ein mehr oder weniger freundliches "buon giorno" zu hören und der gute Duft von frischem Brot wehte über den Platz.

Nur ein paar Kilometer weiter fand ich ein Hinweisschild, das mich zur ersten Villa von Andrea Palladio führte. Um genau zu sein, waren es dann zwei Villen, die auf halber Höhe des Hanges schon von weitem zu sehen
waren. Kein Touristenbus, kein Lärm, nur ländliche Ruhe und Einsamkeit. Schlurfend, in Filzpantoffeln, den prachtvollen Steinboden schonend, sah ich mir die Fresken verzierten Räume und das kleine Bett an. Ja, es gehörte eigentlich nicht dahin, das Bett, aber, so sagte mir die Signora, so sehen es wenigstens die Besucher.

Es ist Herbst in Italien. Das merkt man auch an der Kleidung der Italiener. Während wir noch mit einem warmen Pullover in den späten Tagen des Oktobers auskommen, laufen die Italiener trotz der milden Temperaturen schon Pelz behangen und mit langen Stiefel, tief vermummt in Mäntel und Anorak herum.

Zur Mittagszeit hat die Sonne in Italien noch etwas Kraft. Wärmend fällt sie dann auf die hochgeklappten Stühle und mit Laub bedeckten Tische im Gastgarten der Trattoria. Nein, nein, Essen nur mehr drinnen – im Freien ist es doch schon viel zu kalt! Kopfschütteld bittet mich der Patrone in die Wirtsstube.

Also ließ ich mir einen Tisch im Eck der Gaststube geben. Ich hörte Italienisch um mich herum, während ich die wunderschöne Holzdecke bestaunte. Es ist Herbst in Italien und Touristen kommen nur mehr wenige hierher erzählte mir der Kellner. Es ist ruhig geworden im Dorf. Zeit für einen Plausch mit dem Österreicher – "Parla bene italiano!" meinte er bewundernd, ich spräche gut Italienisch, "no, no" erwiderte ich, " basta solo per parlare un po con la gente", es reicht, um ein wenig mit den Menschen zu plaudern.

Parlare con la gente – mit den Menschen reden, das kann man im Herbst recht gut. Die Cafès nur mehr von Einheimischen besucht, am Markt fehlen die feilschenden Touristen – "in Italien muss man handeln" scheint ihr Motto manchmal zu sein. Oh, diese armen Touristen – der Balkan liegt ganz woanders! Zeitung lesen, einen Cappuccino trinken, genießen, das scheinen sich im Spätherbst dann wohl auch die Italiener wieder zu sagen, wenn sich der Gang der täglichen Arbeit verlangsamt und die Tage kühler und kürzer werden.

If you want to overwrite plone edit inputs, for example if you want the id of a page to be set on the fly instead of by the user input, then you could use a mixture of input fields and javascript.

For example if you had a profile section of the site, you could have the id of the page to be the profiles name.

to do this have the following JS, Jquery is also required;

Then the HTML code can look something like this

The js creates an output via jquery to a hidden input that writes the ID

Then the tal:attributes in the hidden input make sure that if the user reuses the edit page, their details wont be lost.

When the page is saved the url should be;

 http://localhost/$name-$name1

When $name and $name1 are the input variables.

You can use the;

tal:on-error="nothing"

to avoid errors on the page.  This is useful if you don’t care about fixing all errors on a page as if an error exists this wont inform you of an error. Good for demos, but errors should obviously be fixed.

Mitt tal som tidigare var 3,5 min i text, är numera 5,5 min med stödord. Alldeles för långt. Vet inte om jag kommer lyckas dra ner tiden på själva presentationen. Men men, bättre några sekunder för långt än för kort.

Ska vara duktig och promenera idag också, igår blev det en timme i skogen, och idag en runda runt sjön. Märks att det börjar bli vinter också, kallt som fasen är det..

Det blev en lång promenad. Och en promenad där jag efter en halvtimme fann mig mitt på en “bro” mellan två kohagar medans en ko en meter bort envist vägrade släppa mig med blicken. Det är inte att jag är rädd för kor, jag menar, det är ju kor.. jag är bara inte så förtjust i att ha dem alltför nära.. Efter en sisådär fem minuter rörde kossan äntligen på sig och jag sprang därifrån kvickt som tusan. Bara för att inse attjag inte riktigt hade någon aning om vart jag skulle ta vägen. Men det löste sig, jag hittade nya promenadstolpar med röda och gula fyrkanter på ((hade hela tiden följt den blå-röda, och det var när jag gick över till bara röd som jag kom in bland alla gigantiska kor)). Och efter ytterligare två hagar och lite gissningar kom jag äntligen ut på en väg och hittade hem.
Mitt råd: följ aldrig den röda, eller för den delen gula, vägen. Håll dig till den blå. Då slipper man kossor.

Är klar med talet. Höll det för mig själv såhär hemma i soffan, och det landade på fyra minuter. Vi har tre-fem, så då klarar jag mig även om det skulle gå snabbare “på riktigt”. Men jag tror jag har fått ihop det helt okej, det känns bra när jag håller det och jag tror jag har träffat målgruppen ganska rätt också.
Och efter det strålande betyget på förra talet så känns allt mest positivt. Så nu är det bara att öva in det någorlunda och skriva talkorten, och på torsdag är det dags.

Om någon för några år sedan sagt att jag skulle komma att känna mig positiv inför ett tal hade jag trott de var dumma i huvudet. Kort sagt.
Men det är kul när man känner och märker att man förbättras.

Hugo tycker att det är lätt överskattat att kunna prata. Han gör sig förstådd ändå med olika gutturala läten och genom att handgripligen visa vad han vill. Och så blir det oftast som han vill också.

Idag när vi äter lunch pekar han på den slöa flugan som surrar omkring och skriker “dä”. När jag inte gör något griper han tag i min hand och drar den mot flugan. Så jag gör som han vill, jag smäller den och serverar den på rygg till honom.

Nu är han jättesur på mig ( Hugo inte flugan). Blänger och nyper försiktigt tag i flugans ena vinge och drar den fram och tillbaka genom luften.

Ett verbalt kommando hade funkat betydligt bättre.
