Als je ooit een GameCube hebt gehad, dan komt de titel Tales of Symphonia je zeker bekend voor. De RPG die ooit veel uren van onze gametijd vulde, is nu terug voor de Wii met een vervolg. Dacht je dat de wereld ophield bij het samenvoegen van de twee werelddelen, dan heb je het zeker mis. De nieuwe wereld moet zich nog ontplooien en dat geeft zeer veel problemen, omdat mensen nou eenmaal koppig zijn.

Heeft er iemand plakband?
In Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World speel je als Emil, een jongen waarvan de ouders in Palmacosta zijn vermoord door een groep mensen die het niet eens zijn met wat er in het eerdere deel op de GameCube is gebeurd. In dat deel heeft Colette (de ‘Chosen of Regeneration’) samen met Lloyd de twee aparte werelddelen Tethe’alla en Sylvarant samengevoegd. Het probleem is alleen dat deze delen een eigen beschaving hebben waardoor ze met elkaar in de clinch liggen. Dit veroorzaakt veel onrust in de wereld, met als gevolg dat praktisch iedereen wil dat de twee delen weer gescheiden worden. Emil is een onderdeel in dit proces, hij is een zogenaamde ‘Knight of Ratatosk’: een held die monsters in zijn macht kan houden. Ratatosk is de leider van alle monsters in Symphonia, maar hij slaapt sinds het samenvoegen van de twee werelddelen. Marta, een dame met een speciale steen, wil Ratatosk wakker maken om de wereld weer in evenwicht te brengen. De wereld is haar balans kwijt; overal gebeuren rare dingen met de natuur, zoals meren die opdrogen en sneeuw in de woestijn. Marta is eigenlijk de tweede hoofdrolspeler in Dawn of the New World, de speciale steen die ze op haar hoofd heeft is de Core van Ratatosk, waarin zijn ziel is opgeborgen. In je lange reis leer je hoe je monsters onder controle kan krijgen en ze ook kan gebruiken in je gevecht tegen de tegenstanders gedurende je queeste.

Gotta catch ‘em all!
De monsters die je onder controle hebt, zijn uiteraard van een bepaalde soort. Zo heb je schaduwmonsters als wolven en vleermuizen, maar ook watersoorten als schildpadden en vissen. Elk van deze soorten hebben hun eigen leider die ervoor zorgt dat ze beter luisteren naar hun meester (de Knight) en ook sterker worden. De combinatie van de monsters en hun meester zorgt voor veel gevechten, wat het uiteindelijke doel van de game een stuk dichterbij brengt. Je moet namelijk alle leiders samenbrengen en hiermee Ratatosk laten ontwaken. Deze gevechten zijn wel eentonig, omdat je maar bepaalde aanvallen kan gebruiken; de zogenaamde Artes. Deze Artes kun je aan knoppencombinaties binden, zoals met de stick van je Nunchuk naar boven wijzen en dan B indrukken. Er zijn ook speciale combinatieaanvallen met je monsters, die je activeert door de C-knop in te drukken vanaf het moment dat je combinatiebar halfvol zit. Hoe voller deze balk is, hoe sterker de aanval gaat zijn. Doordat je monsters ook een speciaal element zijn, hebben sommige aanvallen een sterker effect op andere monsters. Zo doen wateraanvallen veel meer schade op een vuurmonster dan op een van hun eigen soort.

Bindingsangst
De omgeving speelt ook een grote rol in Dawn of the New World. Zo heeft elk gebied een hoofdelement met vijf subelementen. Deze veranderen naarmate een van je monsters een aanval doet met een bepaald element. Vanaf vier gelijksoortige aanvallen verandert dit hoofdelement, wat de voorwaarde is voor een pact. Een pact sluiten doe je door gebruik te maken van de kracht van Ratatosk en eventueel met een van de leiders van hetzelfde soort. Dit kan natuurlijk ook falen, maar als je in het bezit bent van de leider van een welbepaald element, kan je die gebruiken om het binden te vergemakkelijken; uiteraard levert dit wel een beetje minder ervaringspunten op. Deze punten worden na afloop van het gevecht eerlijk verdeeld over je hele groep.
De graphics van dit deel zijn echt wel een stuk beter dan de eerdere game op de GameCube, maar dat komt ook doordat dit een geavanceerdere console is. Namco Bandai heeft wel goed gebruik gemaakt van alle mogelijkheden van de Wii, waardoor ook de graphics zeer gedetailleerd zijn. Tales of Symphonia bevat ook zeer veel tussenscènes, die je kan overslaan door gelijktijdig A en B in te drukken. De scènes zelf zijn erg mooi maar soms ook zeer langdradig. Je speeltijd loopt wel uit als je alle filmpjes bekijkt, waardoor je op een paar uur speeltijd zit terwijl er niet echt veel is gedaan. De achtergrondgeluiden en -muziek zijn ook goed gekozen, behalve bij de vechtscènes. De muziek die bij deze game gecomponeerd is, verveelt je ook niet. Ik heb rustig de tijd genomen om de intro te beluisteren en alle achtergrondmuziekjes van de verschillende omgevingen. Zoals ik al eerder beschreef zit er in de vechtscènes minder goede muziek, want het is nogal herhalend en afleidend.

Water is blijkbaar de normaalste zaak in een grot.

Toch blijf je deze game spelen omdat het een goede samenhang heeft van verhaal, gameplay, geluid en graphics. Dit is zeker een verslavende RPG met redelijk wat micromanaging. Zo kun je bij de Katz Guild (een groep katten) leren koken om je monsters sterker te maken. Naast het koken krijgen je monsters tijdens het levellen ook bepaalde vaardigheden die ze kunnen gebruiken, wat deze game toch een zeer gedetailleerde tint geeft. Kortom: op kleine schaal grote dingen doen voor een betere wereld; ze zijn de nieuwe hippies.

Por fin tenemos en las tiendas la secuela del notable Tales of Symphonia de Game Cube. Mucho se ha hecho esperar, pero al fin podremos disfrutar de un juego de rol decente en la sobremesa de Nintendo. Namco ha tenido el detalle de traducir los textos y no se le puede negar el buen trabajo que ha realizado en este aspecto. TOS2 viene a llenar un vacío realmente importante dentro del catálogo de Wii, y lo hace realmente bien, siguiendo los patrones de la primera parte pero con novedades que lo convierten en un juego casi obligado para los roleros que tengan la consola.

En primer lugar, TOS2 ofrece un lavado de cara donde nos enseña unos gráficos más pulidos que los del primer juego. Salvando las secuencias de diálogo y demás, donde saltan a la vista algunos defectos como los dientacos de sierra o el pelo estilo playmobil de los personajes, el título está realmente trabajado a nivel artístico. Escenarios muy mimados y con muchos detalles, buen diseño de personajes y enemigos y un trabajo base en el que deberían fijarse las desarrolladoras en sus futuros lanzamientos dentro del género. A nivel musical TOS2 tampoco está nada mal y son bastantes las melodías que transmiten bastante bien la fantasía y belleza de algunos de los momentos.

Jugablemente es una extensión del primer TOS, con un sistema de combate tan dinámico y entretenido como caótico, al cuál hay que dedicar unos momentos obligados para trazar una buena estrategia y dar a los personajes los patrones de combate adecuados que nos sean de ayuda en los enfrentamientos. Al mismo tiempo tenemos el aliciente rollo pokemon de ir capturando -haciendo pactos- con los monstruos a los que nos enfrentemos, teniendo la posibilidad de reclutarlos y contar con ellos en los combates. Posibilidad de evolucionarlos, darles de comer para obtener mayor afinidad etc, aspecto que da un toque más de profundidad al juego.

Otro punto fuerte de TOS2 y de la saga en general es la riqueza que tienen la historia y los personajes, aunque lejos de la quintaesencia argumental, lo cierto es que la historia que gira en torno a los dos juegos no está mal, y lo mejor, desde mi punto de vista, es que realmente no hay dos grupos definidos como buenos y malos, sino que una vorágine de sucesos e intereses poco a poco van descubriendo los objetivos de cada bando, en los cuales hay buenas y malas personas. Los personajes por su parte tienen una personalidad bastante marcada. Pueden caernos mejor o peor, como el bipolar protagonista principal, pero de lo que no cabe duda es que todos mantienen un rol propio y sólido.

Estética anime y muchos momentos simpáticos y embarazosos serán la tónica de la aventura, donde a medida que avancemos iremos desvelando los misterios acerca de Lloyd y la Purga sangrienta de Palmacosta. Puede que que TOS2 esté un punto por debajo de su predecesor en cuestión de novedad y argumento, pero teniendo en cuenta que en Wii no tenemos otra cosa similar que llevarnos a la boca, el juego es recibido con los brazos abiertos. Ojo, que no digo que sea mediocre, todo lo contrario, el juego me está gustando muchísimo y me tiene realmente viciado, pero me parece ilógico el maltrato que está recibiendo este género en el catálogo de la consola.

Recomendado al 100% para todos los amantes de los jrpg que tengan Wii y compra casi obligada para los que disfrutaron del primero. Largo, entretenido, variado, muchas misiones secundarias, numeroso inventario y un apartado técnico muy acertado son todas las cosas que juegan a su favor. Y para los que nunca hayáis jugado al primero es una oportunidad de oro para adentrarse en el universo Tales of, aunque recomiendo fervientemente que si pueden, lo hagan con el grandioso Tales of Phantasia de GBA. Dicho lo dicho, a viciarse como una perra.

Każdy bohater początkowo jest zwykłym człowiekiem, a dopiero wydarzenia, w które zostanie wplątany czynią go prawdziwym herosem. Co by jednak było, gdyby ktoś przyszedł na świat jako Wybraniec? Gdyby od najwcześniejszego dzieciństwa wiedział, że kiedyś w przyszłości to na jego barkach spocznie los wszelkiego istnienia? Poszedłby przez życie z podniesioną głową, a może załamałby się już na starcie?

Właśnie taka droga otwiera się przed Collete – pogodną blondynką, która urodziła się jako Ta Jedyna, Wybrana. Postanowiła uratować Sylvarant, ale nie dla chwały i sławy. Nie dlatego, że tak należy. Nie dlatego, że kocha swą planetę, choć nie można temu zaprzeczyć. Podjęła tą decyzję, aby ocalić świat, w którym żyje jej najdroższy przyjaciel…

Aby spełnić to co postanowiła, musi ona wyruszyć w Podróż Odnowienia i w czterech specjalnych świątyniach złożyć swe modły na głównym ołtarzu. Zapoczątkuje to jej przemianę w anioła, kiedy zaś transformacja dobiegnie końca, świat zostanie zbawiony. Niestety okazuje się, że nic nie jest takie na jakie początkowo wygląda, a za ratowaniem planety stoi dużo większa i mroczniejsza tajemnica…

Desianie – pół-elfy, które za nic mają sobie ludzi,  Exsphery – klejnoty podnoszące umiejętności noszących je osób, Cruxis – sekretna organizacja pociągająca za sznurki całej sprawy… Co łączy te wszystkie elementy? Odpowiedź okaże się zaskakująca i straszna zarazem…

Oczywiście nasza bohaterka, jako normalna 16-latka, nie jest w stanie samotnie borykać się ze wszystkimi problemami, dlatego podróżuje razem z małą drużynką Mamy Lloyda, który będąc malutkim stracił swoich rodziców i został wychowany przez krasnoluda. Zawsze bardzo energiczny i wesoły, nie lubi się uczyć, przysypia na lekcjach i ciągle dostaje bury od swojej nauczycielki, Profesor Refill (będącej maniaczką archeologii xD) oraz genialnego przyjaciela Geniusa (bardzo inteligentnego młodego czarodzieja ^^). Z całego serca troszczy się o Collete i za nic nie chce się z nią rozstawać. Dołącza do nich także Kratos – tajemniczy najemnik wynajęty do chronienia Wybranki. Kim on tak naprawdę jest i jakie są jego zamiary?

Muszę przyznać, że bohaterowie to wielki plus tych OAV Są ogromnie sympatyczni i barwni. Jak przystało na japońskie RPG, prezentują całą paletę różnych osobowości oraz każdy z nich posiada swoją, równie ciekawą co ta główna, historię ^^ Nie mogło też oczywiście zabraknąć wątku uczuciowego, który jest bardzo ważny Od początku byłam zagorzałą fanką LloydxCollete – muszę przyznać, że anime przedstawia ten paring bardzo uroczo i romantycznie ^^ Za to trochę mi szkoda, że po macoszemu potraktowano przyjaźń LloydxGenis. Ale co poradzić – ile można upchnąć w 2 godziny?

Fabuła to także pozytywny aspekt (pierwsze sceny nawet bardziej mi się podobały niż te z rozpoczęcia gry ), ale nie mogę zaprzeczyć temu, że ją spłycono. Na początku ma się wrażenie, że jest to typowe „ratujemy świat”, ale to nieprawda. Z kolejnymi odcinkami odkrywamy drugie i trzecie dno, a całość okazuje się bardziej skomplikowana niż można było przypuszczać.

Jednak co by nie mówić, główną zaletą tej serii jest jej pochodzenie. Gra Tales of Symphonia, wydana przez Namco na GameCube’a oraz PS2 jest świetną opowieścią z różnorodnymi zwrotami akcji oraz ciekawą mechaniką. Szczerze polecam ją każdemu fanowi jRPG bo naprawdę warto się z nią zapoznać ^^ OAV różni się w niektórych miejscach od swojego pierwowzoru, ale w większości przyjemnie się trzyma oryginału. Co więcej, czasami odnosiłam wrażenie jakbym oglądała grę, a nie anime! Np. w pierwszym odcinku, kiedy Lloyd używa swojego Exsphere’a wykonuje atak, który jak żywo wygląda jak jego gierkowe combo Tiger Blade (a w czwartym epizodzie wydawało mi się, że widziałam Demon Fang ) lub też animacja pojawienia się Wieży Zbawienia Zdecydowanie fani będą zachwyceni takimi drobnymi smaczkami ^^

Niestety seria ta nie jest pozbawiona minusów. Największy zarzut to zdecydowanie jej długość – co to są 4 odcinki?? Nawet mimo tego, że te OAV przedstawiają tylko część całej historii, a dokładniej tą dziejącą się w Sylvarancie, to i tak wszystko jest okropnie przyspieszone i ponaglone. Mam wrażenie, że gdybym nie znała fabuły z gry, to mogłabym się w tym wszystkim pogubić. Druga rzecz to dźwięk. Chyba pierwszy raz w życiu to powiem, ale chciałabym obejrzeć ten tytuł z angielskim dubbingiem! Przyzwyczaiłam się do głosów wersji interaktywnej i jakoś nie mogłam przestawić na japońskich seiyuu. Tzn. Lloyd (Katsuyuki Konishi), czy Collete (ale miałam zaskok jak się dowiedziałam, że grała ją Nana Mizuki! ;]) wyszli ok., ale Kratos to czysta porażka! Angielski aktor (Cam Clarke) idealnie pasował mi tak do jego wyglądu i wieku, jak i charakteru, ale japoński (Fumihiko Tachiki) to przegięcie – brzmiał u licha jak jakiś staruszek! :/ Irytowała mnie też zmiana imion. Zamiast Refill wolę angielską Raine, a od Geniusa Genisa.

Jeśli spojrzeć na wszystko od strony technicznej, to powiem, że jest nieźle. Animacje są ładne – szczególnie mówię tu o walkach (cud miód orzeszki xD), a sama grafika jest przyjemna dla oka. Nie ma może fajerwerków, ale raczej nie ma się czego przyczepić Co do muzyki, to muszę powiedzieć, że melodie z tła dobrze dopełniają całą produkcję, a OP jest genialny – Eri Kawai i piosenka „Almateria” jest tak niesamowicie nastrojowa, jakby była wypełniona tchnieniem jakiejś starożytnej legendy ^^ Fajny myk polega na tym, że nie jest ona śpiewana po Japońsku, tylko w wymyślonym języku. Czasami wplecione są w nią wyrazy po angielsku, czy też jakieś nazwy z uniwersum ToS, dlatego ciekawie się jej słucha, jednocześnie starając się wyłapać tekst. Z tych bardziej pewnych słówek udało mi się znaleźć „Sylvarant”, „Tethe’alla”, „Desian”, „My desire” oraz „Open your mind to me”. Pozostałe to już moje spekulacje, więc się nimi nie podzielę xD Uroczy jest także utwór “Uchi e Kaerou” Nany Mizuki – taki pogodny i wesoły

Tak jak już wspominałam, historia tych OAV to Sylvarant arc. W przyszłym roku zaś ma się ukazać druga część, tym razem przedstawiająca wydarzenia z Tethe’alli. Z chęcią zobaczę co z tego wyniknie – już sam fakt, że Zelos dostanie dłuższą rólkę nastawia mnie pozytywnie (sceny z Sheeną będą ciekawe ;P) xD Pojawi się też Presea i Regal. Cóż, trzeba uzbroić się w cierpliwość i modlić o większą ilość odcinków ^^

Pytanie więc brzmi – oglądać, czy nie? Jesteś fanem gry Tales of Symphonia, to oglądaj śmiało. Dostaniesz swoją ukochaną opowieść pobieżnie, ale całkiem ciekawie zrealizowaną. Nacieszysz się podobieństwami, a luki w historii nie będą Ci przeszkadzać bo będziesz sobie potrafił dopowiedzieć to co brakuje pomiędzy wierszami Jeśli zaś jesteś osobą, która pierwszy raz w życiu ma styczność z ToS, ale lubisz fantastykę, to także polecam choć rzucić okiem – kto wie? Może skłoni Cię to do sięgnięcia po genialną grę? ^^ Dobrze byłoby też zerknąć na mange – jest ślicznie narysowana i zdecydowanie wyjaśni pewne niedopowiedzenia

Mnie się podobało, piszę to z perspektywy fana Talesów i fana fantasy. Ot, dobra mini seria kiedy prawie nie mamy za dużo czasu

But anyway, I forgot to mention that, for the first time ever, I will be making my own cosplay~~! I believe that’s the best I can do my mom&dat, for I’m pretty sure that, between me and my sister, they’ve spent well over $2000 on cosplay~ I wont dare wear my Yuna (FF) and Ion (ToA) to a convention~ My Haruhi uniform is too big and I’m too lazy to re-size it~ I’d wear Miku, but I dont have a wig for her yeeet~ * ~* So all I really have left is Anya~

So, here’s my cosplay list, and a few reasons why I feel OBLIGED to make them:

Well first of all, SHE’S SOO CUTE~~!<3 The costume looks really fun to wear, and her personality is really spontaneous~!! And I’ll be under a mask anyway, so acting in character will be soooo much easier for me~~! ^^
- Plenair from Disgaea/Nippon Ichi games~
She’s really adorable~ :3 And I wuv her plushies~~!

- Cheshire from Pandora Hearts~ (inoerite~? crossssplay~~!<3)
I think his outfit’s pretty epic~! ;o

- Mina Tsukishiro from Getsumen to Heiki Mina~
I’m in LOOOOVE with the giant carrots on the back of her shorts~!! Her costume looks amazingly fun to make and wear~~! And I wont have to worry about getting all hot since it’s pretty…..fleshy~ xD

- Presea Combatir from Tales of Symphonia~
Well, obviously, she’s SO ADORABLE~~!!! And the pink hair~~?? <333333 I think I might make the Dream Traveler variant instead of her original costume though, because I’ve rarrely seen people do it~ ;D But I definately want to make the DX Hammer with it~~! Hahar, and make a squeak~? :’D ((Doubt I can do that, but eeeh~ x3

- Kaede Nagase from Negima!~

But yeah, after I make Taokaka, depending on how much time I have, I might start making Cheshire or Reimu so I could wear either of them for a few hours on one of the days of MegaCon~ ((As you can tell I seriously want to dedicate Mega to Taokaka~<3)) Then whichever I make for Mega, I’ll use it for ToshoCon, which is usually in late-March, ORRR I’ll try making Mina cosplay~~! Or I probably should do Presea…~? I dunno, who caaaares right now~~!! xD I have until whenever MetroCon is to get them all done, so no need for rushy-rushy~! :’3

I’m feeling quite lazy today, since my computer died a couple of days back and I’m on a completely new system at the moment. There is a streaming version on this page (NicoSound, no account needed). This is the CM with the song attached to it. The music fits so well with the video I’m getting goosebumps from this lol.

There’s a bit more of the instrumental playing but Nana & Misato talk over it for way too long.

About 10 seconds into the singing it’s pretty obvious that this is gonna rock. I liked this on the first listen already.

This is composer Katou Yuusuke and Nana-san’s first time working together, and it looks like it’s turning out very very well already. The lyrics, by Hibiki, directly tie in with Tales of Symphonia. I haven’t ever played it, but apparently there’s all this travelling back and forth between parallel (?) worlds or something. This is from the POV of the lead female character Colette (C.V. Nana)? It sounds like an interesting plot, maybe I’ll give the OVAs a try.

With Smile Gang’s audio quality these days, people can easily download this and pass up on the official CD, and this is BAD. So there’s a small chunk of talk at the very end (the song didn’t end yet and Nana and Misato started talking anyway) just to remind everyone that this is a PREVIEW. Support Nana and buy the CD!

LIVE FEVER/DIAMOND Blu-ray/DVD release date has also been announced: December 23. Three discs for BD and five for the DVD. Sugeee-. Next week there’s also a big announcement on Smile Gang. Finally onto thoughts about the actual song.

Nana + EleGa is pretty much a winning combo for me already, but this song.. the first thing I thought was “it’s really WHITE ALBUM-ish!”  It wasn’t an instant favourite on the first listen but after a couple more replays I started to appreciate it more. I can’t think of any previous Nana songs that sound anything remotely like this, so I guess it can be considered a new style. I didn’t actually like Shin Ai on the first listen either but now it’s like “ZOMG awsm ballad!1″ so I’m willing to bet that I’ll warm up to it in time.

And… isn’t this song a bit too impossible for normal people to sing at karaoke!?  ヽ(#`Д´)ﾉ

There are many notable acquisitions in this haul, but I’d say that Kos-Mos is the centerpiece of it all. Once again to reiterate to readers – both regular and passerby – that my haul posting is not geared to make people salivate with envy nor is it some attempt to boast at what I own. I merely post what I like because I like it and can do it. Salivating is at your discretion. This is a NSFW post due to the nature of some of the items that is part of this haul. I’ll give you a hint – there is a particular Queen’s Blade solicitation bonus.
Depending on certain extraneous factors going on in life, I may or may not post something in the near future. I’ll just have to wait and see the outcome of things, but this is a heads up that I’ll be around but not really…

These are the goods with their packaging on. So, out of the entire haul, there were 6 figures without bubblewrap of some sort. It just makes it easier for me to pack things up safely. Of the the bunch, three came with an outer packaging typical of making purchases with the Megatrea Online Shop.

Due to the varied size of the packages, there isn’t really a clear distinction between middle and top row. I separated it as best as I can.

Primarily, scaled figures are my speciality and what I typically derive the most happiness and satisfaction with. There are just a lot of things that a trading figure or an action figure lacks in terms of quality or being able to capture that authenticity of a particular character. Rarely, there are trading figures, small figures or even action figures that simply amaze me. The Queen’s Blade figures by Medicos/Happinet is an excellent example of great sculpt for a trading figure which explains why the set can run you close to $100+. Out of trading figure sets that I’ve seen or personally own, this line is superior in terms of sculpt and quality downright to the ecchi appeal that characterizes the series. There is a normal set as well as two clear limitations released in a set of 3. This was offered exclusively through mail-in and features the girls in transparent limited 2p color schemes of the original figures of which I own scaled versions of. If you’re not into ecchi, I wouldn’t recommend this line, but if you are fairly open about ecchi material, dig the Queen’s series or like great sculpt for trading figures, this is definitely the line to buy from.

A clear insert/folder of sorts was given as the preorder bonus for this set. You can actually see through Menas’ ripped top, but I inserted a blank paper so that both the front and backside were visible. I don’t really see how I would have a use for this because if I took it out to retrieve homework or documents, it would surely attract some attention and I prefer my trusty binder, anyways.

Good Smile Company and Max Factory are such good bedmates business partners. At an event hosted by the Max Factory/Good Smile Co. duo, Wonderful Hobby Life for You is sure to yield some interesting swag.

As you can see, there are directions, figma cycle orange version, nendoroid list, random pamphlets, Good Smile Racing stickers, voting paper, and a magazine. The stickers were meant to be used for providing feedback for the nendoroid photoshoot contest.

Here are some more flyers of revoltech figures, To Heart, Touhou, Little Busters!, and what looks like a postcard of Drossel’s character. Interestingly enough, Dorssel caught my eye, but I wasn’t able to preorder her due to being near the bottom of hierarchical importance. She is also a figma, so it didn’t help drive my interest. Nowadays, she is super rare and well on her way to a sold out 2nd re-release and new orders for a 3rd wave. (Got lucky and scored her for $35 before announcement of the 2nd or 3rd wave^^)

I would imagine this is probably the same chocolate offered to those who bought the Max Factory Yuki Nagato figma which released on Valentines Day.
The top of chocolate features a squared design with a milky white chocolate inner layering. It was actually quite delicious.

Nendoroid Paper Craft was only given out through this event and has a paper helmet, visor and bicycle that you can cut out and put on your nendoroid as sampled by the lovely Miku Hatsune. I think it is cute and alright, but I would have preferred an actual accessory made out of a material not as flimsy as paper. The rest of the paper craft came with a calendar and a checklist of the nendoroids released. I no longer remember whether or not the list contained limited/exclusive releases.

During the event, there was a possibility of getting an orange or blue colored bicycle, but I can neither confirm or deny this statement since I have only seen the orange cycle bundled in other individuals’ swag bags. There are 4 cycle color types to collect in total – orange, yellow, red, and blue/cyan. I haven’t decided as to whether or not I will be leaving the color as is or painting it in a different color.

The original shrine limitation petit nendoroid set was exclusively available through Tokimeki Mall online shop. To honor the new year with an appropriate gimmick to be expected from the dastardly genius marketing minds over at Good Smile Co. (sometimes, I really hate you guys), exclusive Washinomiya shrine versions of the already limited petit set was released. Visitors to the shrine had a chance at winning a complete set out of a certain amount of turns by trying their luck at the capsule machine. A complete set includes 8 different fortunes, but I’m not too concerned with that.

For a certain time period, Max Factory was giving out Christmas accessories in the form of cloaks and Santa Claus hats for figmas with the purchase of a figure. These are nice accessories to give your figmas a festive touch to them.

I’d have to say that this is one of the harder To Heart 2 limited figures to find out there. Not only is information on this figure seldom found, but a complete set will most likely run you at least 10,000+ yen. I was…still am not particularly into the actual series as nothing has remotely caught my attention, but this figure has always intrigued me from the get go. There’s a certain appeal with the pose and demeanor of the sisters in this figure and happen to really like the portrayal of the art.This is also one of many reasons why Kotobukiya has some really nice limited/exclusive figures that are amazingly higher quality than their regular releases. While Kotobukiya’s anime line can be lacking in some regards, the limited and nonanime  line is so kickass.

I’ve grown accustomed to receiving and expecting shitajiki (pencil boards) as a preorder bonus for Kotobukiya’s Gemaga line that the preorder bonus for this figure stands out. There is a pamphlet with a sketch of the artwork that this figure is based off of as well as a telephone card. There is even a Christmas-y image of Tama-nee and Manaka which Kotobukiya has announced a figure set of.

In the slim, rectangular box, 2 vertical posters were neatly rolled up – the sisters and Tamaki. The Tamaki poster has a matching Kotobukiya limited figure as well. This is the only poster preorder bonus that came neatly packaged in the box. It is also the only poster – that I know of – that is made out of paper. All other poster bonuses have a more plastic material as if it was laminated.

It may be the black ribbon or the pink ponytail, but I’m quite fond of the Spica petit nendoroid. She’s very cute as a nendoroid and I really like the Kotobukiya scaled version of her as well. I’m not really one for eroge games, but my interest was definitely piqued in Sumaga. If Kotobukiya made Garnet and Mira, I’d definitely buy those as well. Hint hint, Kotobukiya. ~.*

There are some figmas that are genuinely nice and the characters are scaled within figma constraints. I think the Lucky Star figmas are scaled the best out of all of the figma characters out there and it probably has to do with the cast being short in stature. I used to like Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya before it became overhyped and overly saturated with subpar merchandise. I have no problem backing up a series that is hyped up as long the series warrants such backing up. I don’t own this figma and wasn’t in any rush to adding a Haruhi figma to the collection. In all honesty, I only bought this because it was cheaper than what I would have gotten her at MSRP price and it came with the two Christmas accessories.

Poor Mikoto! I guess she’s not all that popular out there because she was really dirt cheap. I’ve definitely paid more for a $6 Carl’s Jr. burger. Nonetheless, as a fan of the show and an owner of the ALTER Eri Sawachika, I needed to complete this set. I always liked Miko-chin’s character, but I love Ojou. I guess all that I’m missing is a Good Smile Eri and I’ll own all of the School Rumble cast. Now, somebody needs to make a Harima figure, preferably in scaled proportions.

I have never watched Rozen Maiden Traumend and probably won’t be doing it any time soon. Her character design is very appealing and heterochromatism works well with a solid shade of green. Suiseiseki was manufactured by Wave. Most of the time, I find Wave to be unreliable and typically won’t buy from them, but this figure as well as the Elfen Lied figures are ones that I don’t regret.

As a video game fan, I’m always looking to add characters from beloved series. Soul Calibur III is a great game. Voldo for the win! Anyways, there aren’t any decent figures from this franchise for some reason. I wouldn’t have bought this for the original price, but I simply can’t resist for $5.00. This is one of Megahouse’s weaker releases, but$5 is a pretty reasonable price for getting some representation from a great game. The likelihood of a Tira figure is near nonexistent which is too bad.

A few of you may recall that I already got this figure via a lottery and luck on my side. Long story short, I now own two of this figure.

Around January, hopes of being able to own the regular release of Alice was growing dimmer and dimmer with each passing day. I had prepaid her in advance, but she was severely allocated in US distribution, thus making her a rare commodity. Unsure of whether or not my order would be fulfilled, I started to make plans to preorder this version.

Partner in crime doesn’t like many loli designs for Queen’s Blade/Gate, but both Alice and Aldra are the only two girls that appeal to him. Alice<Aldra<Nowa/Yumil

As much as I love ALTER and bodacious women, the AlphaxOmega loli Alice has a slight edge on the competition.

This is a fairly old and cute figure with bootlegs circulating out there. Sometimes, you can get lucky and get this figure for 5000 yen – which is what I got her for -, but I’ve seen prices fetch for 10,000 yen especially if it comes with the Tamaki shitajiki preorder bonus.

Once again, I think I’ve seen only 1 episode of To Heart 2 that I couldn’t stand, but I am starting to accumulate a decent amount of figures from the series. Perhaps in the future, I will be able to give the anime another chance.

Ah, I don’t think that I’d ever willingly own a Sega figure let alone be satisfied with the quality of  the merchandise. Partner in crime loves Valkyria Chronicles to the point that he’s unlocked everything, played through DLC and faithfully watch the anime. Upon hearing that this figure was released, I was asked to hunt it down for a good price. There must be fans of both the game and/or character because every listing of Alicia that I’ve ever seen always resulted in a bidding war that ended well over $150. Inflation is not as bad as it used to be, but I still can’t pay $120 for Miss Melchiott. I’ve seen her at $70+ and almost placed my preorder had hesitation not kicked in for me. I’ll gladly take $40+ XD

I stayed awake at 3am to snipe in a bid at the last moment. I won her and got less than 2 hours of sleep before waking up to get ready for work. I’m not usually impressed with Sega figures and I stay away from their prize figure line because nothing catches my attention, but this figure is a pretty decent representation of the character. I am still hoping for something much nicer than this, but Alicia is too awesome of a character to not have a figure of.

Not all figures catch his attention, so any figure that he personally wants is up there in priority. I don’t know many people who would watch an auction in the wee hours just to snipe in a bid in hopes of getting a low price and still get ready to go to work, but not many people are like me.

Tsuzuri is one of those few figures that I heavily anticipated her arrival. This may be due to the fact that I didn’t own that many figures in mid-summer  last year and she was the very first exclusive/limited figure that I preordered. She is one of those figures that just stands out above a good majority of figures for good reason. I opted not to get the Wonder Festival version because I felt that the blue suited her fuschia hair better. Upon receiving my package from Hobby Stock, we both agreed that the Wonder Festival version looked just as nice with the pink maid outfit. While I never actively pursued this version due to being limited to 1,000 pieces, I wouldn’t mind the chance of owning her because she is so gorgeous. Ironically, I paid less than $90+ for her which was cheaper than the original version. If you care to hunt Tsuzuri down, you will not be disappointed with what you’re getting.

Re-Ment is so damn cute. If I didn’t restrain myself, I’d probably go splurging on complete miniature sets. There are some shops that sell various Re-Ment merchandise including this kotatsu, but the selling price is $24.99 for a miniature piece. The likeness to an actual kotatsu is high, but the price is disagreeable for such a small thing. Yeah, I’m a tightwad.
Last but not least is what I consider the highlight of this haul – Megahobbi Event Exclusive ALTER 1/6 Kos-Mos ~T-elos ver.~ I haven’t spent enough time with Kosy to consider myself a fan of her, but I am an ALTERista and dig unique and sexy swimsuits. I preordered both the regular release and Post Channel orange swimsuit ver. to have a duo of sexy androids. Then, the announcement of a sleek tan-colored Kosy took ahold of my brain and told me “Buy me!” Out of all the versions, I prefer the darker skin with the purple swimsuit. Sorry Kosy (normal). Pasty and/or pale girls aren’t my cup of tea.

The windowless box was unique and had a cool design, but I really needed to verify whether or not the correct Kosy was, indeed, inside the box. Call it paranoia, but I didn’t want to be extremely ecstatic and be completely let down with a switcheroo.

I wouldn’t mind wearing a swimsuit like this. One thing that I don’t understand is why this figure is called “T-elos Color” if it looks exactly like T-elos. I guess the correct answer is the simplest one; the other two versions are clearly Kos-Mos with different colored swimsuits, therefore this variant is a skin and not a character change to maintain consistency.

Nonetheless, she is super pretty and I have both ALTER and Megahouse to thank and curse for that.

This concludes catching up with things that I missed in April. I’m not sure if I will post some more recent hauls in favor of earlier ones. Busy things happening in my life as usual. Maybe if I am lucky and have enough energy to spare, I can post a preview on the Lost Planet 2 and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves multiplayer.

Juego: Tales of Symphonia.

La espontánea relación de amor que he tenido con esta saga me llevó a comprar una Gamecube, siete años después de su lanzamiento, y rebuscar por los entresijos de ebay para encontrar este juego que hoy os analizo.

¿Y todo esto por qué? Porque Tales of the Abyss es una jodida obra maestra, y según la opinión popular y los “expertos”, Symphonia era mejor. O, al menos, tenía una mayor puntuación en las reviews.

¿Un Tales mejor que Abyss? Eso tenía que probarlo. Después de varias semanas dándole hasta completarlo ya estoy en condiciones de dar ampliamente mi opinión sobre él.

¿Ha merecido la pena comprarse una Gamecube solo por este juego? ¿Realmente Tales of Symphonia es mejor que Tales of the Abyss? Todo esto y más después de la publicidad tras el salto.

Historia y desarrollo.

Estamos en Sylvarant, el mundo donde comienza nuestra aventura. Este mundo está en declive, ya que la fuente de energía principal, el maná, está escaseando a un ritmo preocupante. Sin maná no se podría llevar a cabo actividades cotidianas de la vida, ya que prácticamente todo requiere el uso de esta energía.

Pero esta situación no es nueva, ya que este declive se repite siempre cada cierto tiempo. Por ello todo el mundo deposita sus esperanzas en “el elegido”. Una persona que a través de un peregrinaje debe regenerar el mundo y así traer un nuevo periodo de prosperidad.

En este contexto nosotros tomamos el papel de Lloyd, que junto con su amigo Genis y la profesora Raine, acompañarán a Collete (la elegida) en su viaje de regeneración del mundo.

La historia, a diferencia de Tales of the Abyss, se plantea muy típica (y con un aire a plagio de FFX que tira para atrás), pero por suerte cuando llevemos varias horas de juego nos daremos cuenta de que no todo es tan simple como parece. La trama empieza a complicarse a partir de cierto punto y prácticamente todo lo que teníamos pensado se pone patas arriba, dando lugar casi a un juego totalmente nuevo.

Se puede decir que estamos ante una trama bastante enresevesada, muy superior a la media de RPG’s existentes. Y a pesar del aspecto infantiloide que acarrea este título, un argumento semi-adulto en el que la tolerancia y la no discriminación entre razas es el mensaje clave con el que se nos bombardeará durante todo el juego.

El desarrrollo de la trama transcurre de forma muy lenta y con demasiadas mazmorras entre medias (MUY pesadas todas, por cierto). Pero lo más preocupante es que recoge demasiados detalles de Tales of Eternia, como el tener que sellar pactos con los “espiritus” o “craymels”. Y la sensación de “deja vu” que sentimos en gran parte de la aventura resulta demasiado alarmante.

Los personajes, a excepción de un par, son bastante mediocres. Tanto argumentalmente como por su forma de ser, que casi en ningún momento consiguen transmitirnos nada. Quizás por el excesivo infantilismo de sus protagonistas principales (Lloyd, Genis y Collette). Está claro que son muchísimo mejores que los de Tales of Eternia (exceptuando Meredy), pero si los comparamos con los de Tales of the Abyss, los de Symphonia quedan en el más absoluto ridículo. Aunque la verdad es que prácticamente cualquier juego quedaría en ridículo en ese aspecto si lo comparamos con Abyss…

Jugabilidad.

Jugablemente el sistema de combates es una evolución de lo visto en Tales of Eternia, muy parecido al de Tales of the Abyss, pero sin llegar a poder movernos en un entorno 3D. Lo que pasa es que los enemigos sí que están desperdigados por toda la pantalla y al seleccionar un objetivo con nuestro personaje manejable la cámara toma una perspectiva u otra, dando la sensación de que sí son combates en 3D.

Por lo demás, se sigue manteniendo el uso de las “artes”, aquí llamados “ataques especiales”, e incorpora algunas novedades como los “ataques conjuntos” y las “habilidades EX”.

Los ataques conjuntos se pueden lanzar cuando una barra de límite se llena (esta barra se llena según los golpes que demos), cuando esto sucede, todo el grupo realiza su ataque especial al enemigo seleccionado.

Las habilidades EX son una especie de gemas que se le incrustan a los personajes para darles ciertos privilegios en combate, más PM, más defensa, etc…

Habiendo analizado ya en LSK dos Tales, creo que es una tontería alargar más este apartado. La verdad es que el sistema de combate de este juego sigue siendo divertidísimo, y en muchos momentos en los que el desarrollo jugable no nos anima a seguir avanzando, el sistema de combate nos da un soplo de esperanza para seguir delante de la pantalla.

Hay que destacar, antes de acabar, que los combates no se generan aleatoriamente como pasaba en Eternia. Si no que en todo momento veremos los enemigos en el mapeado, y para pasar al combate simplemente tendremos que tomar contacto con ellos.

Gráficos y sonido.

Tales of Symphonia tiene unos gráficos en cell shading, manteniendo una estética muy manga, marca de la saga, que ya todos conocemos. Además de eso incluye secuencias en anime puro cada cierto tiempo para mostrar algunos acontecimientos importantes de la trama. Como siempre, vaya.

La verdad es que son unos gráficos muy bonitos, y resulta impresionante que tratándose de una Gamecube y jugándolo en una tele SD, el juego sea mucho más vistoso que algunos de nueva generación.

La BSO está a cargo de Motoi Sakuraba, compositor también de Tales of Eternia/Abyss/Rebirth y de otros juegos con renombre como Valkyrie Profile Silmeria/Lenneth, Baten Kaitos, Eternal Sonata… Vamos, que el tío tiene experiencia en esto.

A título personal debo decir que es una de las BSO que más me han gustado, con canciones realmente buenas, tanto melódicas como “cañeras”.

Quizás siendo demasiado crítico, debo decir que le falta alguna canción realmente épica, como Meaning of Birth de Tales of the Abyss. Pero vaya, que es una gran BSO.

Conclusión.

A la pregunta del principio de si Symphonia es mejor que Abyss, la respuesta es bien clara: NO. Ni se le acerca. Tanto por historia, por desarrollo, por personajes… pero esto no quiere decir que este juego sea malo, no os equivoquéis.

Tales of Symphonia es un gran juego, con una historia bastante superior a lo que estamos acostumbrados a ver últimamente, llena de giros argumentales sorprendentes, que nos hará querer saber más y más en todo momento.

Una ambientación muy cuidada, unos personajes (pese a la mediocridad antes citada) que al final consiguen que les cojamos algo de cariño (qué menos después de tantísimas líneas de diálogos), un sistema de combates buenísimo, una duración más que satisfactoria…

La única gran pega que se le puede poner a este juego (y que quizás para muchos ya sea razón para no gustarle) es la excesiva cantidad de mazmorras y, sobre todo, la pesadez de cada una de ellas. Pero para quien eso no le suponga ningún problema, Tales of Symphonia se plantea como un juego totalmente imprescindible.

La espontánea relación de amor que he tenido con esta saga me llevó a comprar una Gamecube, siete años después de su lanzamiento, y rebuscar por los entresijos de ebay para encontrar este juego que hoy os analizo.

¿Y todo esto por qué? Porque Tales of the Abyss es una jodida obra maestra, y según la opinión popular y los “expertos”, Symphonia era mejor. O, al menos, tenía una mayor puntuación en las reviews.

¿Un Tales mejor que Abyss? Eso tenía que probarlo. Después de varias semanas dándole hasta completarlo ya estoy en condiciones de dar ampliamente mi opinión sobre él.

¿Ha merecido la pena comprarse una Gamecube solo por este juego? ¿Realmente Tales of Symphonia es mejor que Tales of the Abyss? Todo esto y más después de la publicidad tras el salto.

Historia y desarrollo.

Estamos en Sylvarant, el mundo donde comienza nuestra aventura. Este mundo está en declive, ya que la fuente de energía principal, el maná, está escaseando a un ritmo preocupante. Sin maná no se podría llevar a cabo actividades cotidianas de la vida, ya que prácticamente todo requiere el uso de esta energía.

Pero esta situación no es nueva, ya que este declive se repite siempre cada cierto tiempo. Por ello todo el mundo deposita sus esperanzas en “el elegido”. Una persona que a través de un peregrinaje debe regenerar el mundo y así traer un nuevo periodo de prosperidad.

En este contexto nosotros tomamos el papel de Lloyd, que junto con su amigo Genis y la profesora Raine, acompañarán a Collete (la elegida) en su viaje de regeneración del mundo.

La historia, a diferencia de Tales of the Abyss, se plantea muy típica (y con un aire a plagio de FFX que tira para atrás), pero por suerte cuando llevemos varias horas de juego nos daremos cuenta de que no todo es tan simple como parece. La trama empieza a complicarse a partir de cierto punto y prácticamente todo lo que teníamos pensado se pone patas arriba, dando lugar casi a un juego totalmente nuevo.

Se puede decir que estamos ante una trama bastante enresevesada, muy superior a la media de RPG’s existentes. Y a pesar del aspecto infantiloide que acarrea este título, un argumento semi-adulto en el que la tolerancia y la no discriminación entre razas es el mensaje clave con el que se nos bombardeará durante todo el juego.

El desarrrollo de la trama transcurre de forma muy lenta y con demasiadas mazmorras entre medias (MUY pesadas todas, por cierto). Pero lo más preocupante es que recoge demasiados detalles de Tales of Eternia, como el tener que sellar pactos con los “espiritus” o “craymels”. Y la sensación de “deja vu” que sentimos en gran parte de la aventura resulta demasiado alarmante.

Los personajes, a excepción de un par, son bastante mediocres. Tanto argumentalmente como por su forma de ser, que casi en ningún momento consiguen transmitirnos nada. Quizás por el excesivo infantilismo de sus protagonistas principales (Lloyd, Genis y Collette). Está claro que son muchísimo mejores que los de Tales of Eternia (exceptuando Meredy), pero si los comparamos con los de Tales of the Abyss, los de Symphonia quedan en el más absoluto ridículo. Aunque la verdad es que prácticamente cualquier juego quedaría en ridículo en ese aspecto si lo comparamos con Abyss…

Jugabilidad.

Jugablemente el sistema de combates es una evolución de lo visto en Tales of Eternia, muy parecido al de Tales of the Abyss, pero sin llegar a poder movernos en un entorno 3D. A partir de hoy podemos ver un primer tráiler del nuevo proyecto de Tales of Symphonia, que llevara el nombre de Tales of Symphonia: Tethe’alla hen, que saldrá en formato de OVAs.

El animado estrenará en algún momento de la primavera de 2010 y la web oficial está mostrando el primer video promocional para estas ovas. También se desconoce cual es el staff que se encuentra trabajando en esta producción.
