La Cumparsita Meets Dracula

La Cumparsita is a musical piece written in 1917 by Gerardo Matos Rodríguez. It has been adapted to Tango and is now one of the most famous and recognizable Tango songs of all time. The title translates as “The little parade”. The original lyrics open with: “The little parade of endless miseries…”. Today La Cumparsita is very popular at Milongas where it is commonly played for the last dance of the evening. The quality of dancing on ABC’s hit show, “Dancing With The Stars”, has escalated as of late. The presence of greatness has shown up in the recent performance by Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough in their Argentine Tango, showing off traditional and sexy Tango dance outfits. The dance was sultry, dramatic, and a truly divine viewing treat, and received a score of 56 out of a possible 60 by the judges. To be an amateur dancer, she shows unbelievable potential.

By comparison, Anna Demidova and Andrew Beckenoff, professional ballroom dancers, also performed Argentine Tango to allow the viewers the opportunity to watch the Argentine Tango danced on a professional level by highly accomplished dancers. It is magnificent, and Tango eye-candy for sure.

Argentine Tango is loved for its beauty, drama and passion. It represents the intimate relationship between a man and a woman and is executed with improvisational movement of lead and follow. Because of it’s intimate nature and the fact that is is enjoyed as a social dance, all dancing participants must take care with personal hygiene and appearance. For tulip fresh breath, a breath mint or gum is helpful. Tulip designed skirts are used in Tango fashion, and embellish the look and feel of the dance. They can be worn for almost any Tango occasion, and dressed up or down with a variety of tops and simple jewelry. In Tango, as a rule black themes are preferred for both men and women. Tango is about the communication and connection between two people. One does not have to know all the fancy steps to dance a beautiful Tango. Most women prefer well executed,simple steps rather than poorly executed, complicated patterns. I remember an evening some time ago and one dance in particular with a young man I had never met. We danced some basic Tango movements, things that beginners learn when they first learn to dance. But it was one of those times when I was sure of the saying, “It’s not the steps, but the motion”, and I realized it was an absolutely memorable dance because it took me to a dreamy place, where time stands still and you never want it to end. To this day, I can recall the way we danced, and I can recall exactly what I was wearing. It bore an uncanny resemblance to this Black Tango Skirt, which highlighted some of my “assets”. It is said that Tango is not in the feet~ it is in the heart. Tango is fascinating, sensual and challenging, and expresses an element of romance with its synchronized movements. Its basic rhythm is slow-slow, and its basic step is the camanadas (walks). Tango has many adornos, adornments, and the lady can add them between steps to include toe-taps and little flicks of the foot to the side or back or (a bit trickier) in front of the other foot. When the dance floor has enough room, there are riskier adornos. These include high kicks and caresses of the man’s legs with the feet or legs of the lady.
