Why must each new DVD come

a) stuck on an awkwardly pronged plastic page (from which one must “pop” the DVD without snapping it in half)

b) stuck within three impossible-to-lift-off-in-one-piece stickers sealing three of the four sides shut

c) hermetically sealed in plastic?

You can’t just open the package and start watching Back to the Future. No. You need freaking tools to re-experience Doc’s madcap high jinks and Marty’s hoverboard skills.

Do you have fingernails? Lucky you.

I don’t, and trying to lift up that nearly-invisible plastic corner is – if not impossible – a 5 minute struggle that makes me want to punch someone on the throat. Sometimes scissors help, but most of the time they don’t, as the blade of the scissor is too thick to insert between the flap and the layer of plastic you’re trying to cut.

So I walk to the kitchen and get my knife and slide the blade along the fold of plastic, using a 2.5 million year-old tool to open a 21st century invention. I peel the stickers off, tiny shred by tiny shred, trying – and failing – to clump them together for easy disposal

I have the same grievance with CDs of course, but if you’re not using iTunes or pirating music by now, chances are you aren’t tech savvy enough to be reading a blog.

Everyone who has worked with ADV_FILE devices knows this situation: a disk backup unit fills, and the saveset(s) being written hang until you clear up space, because as we know savesets in progress can’t be moved from one device to another:

Honestly, what makes me really angry (I’m talking Marvin the Martian really angry here) is that if a tape device fills and another tape of the same pool is currently mounted, NetWorker will continue to write the saveset on the next available device:

What’s more, if it fills and there’s a drive that currently does have a tape mounted, NetWorker will mount a new tape in that drive and continue the backup in preference to dismounting the full tape and reloading a volume in the current drive.

There’s an expression for the behavioural discrepancy here: That sucks.

If anyone wonders why I say VTLs shouldn’t need to exist, but I still go and recommend them and use them, that’s your number one reason.

Yes, they seem quite dinosaur-like nowadays compared with mp3s and music on CDs. But I liked having tapes. I liked taking time to make compilations. For myself, and others. I liked going to the effort of hand-writing the label and the index. In my large hand-writing. Of working out how many songs I could get on each side.

When I think back to tapes I think of artists such as: Roxette, A-Ha, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Petshop Boys, Belinda Carlisle, Bananarama, T’Pau, Cher, Culture Club, Chris de Burgh, Billy Joel, Wham, Tina Turner. Among others.

I still have tapes. In my car. It doesn’t have a CD player, see. The tapes in the car were made about 6 years ago. Which is when I bought the car (second hand). I don’t have a tape deck at home though. I haven’t for many years.

I have fond memories of tapes.

Miss Trinidad’s boyfriend Wyatt Gallery also participated in the video, which he stored on his computer. Gallery took his computer to a repair shop and someone swiped the video and leaked it.

R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe debuted his talent as a sculpture artist in 2008, unveiling his cast bronze sculptures at Rogan Botique in Bowery. He has since kept it moving by recently collaborating with Belgian label Maison Martin Margiela on a piece that aligns well with Martin Margiela’s obscure ‘found art’ approach to design.

The piece comes in the shape of a mini metal cassette tape equipped with an unraveled tape that serves as a chain. Limited to only 199 pieces, these cassette tape accessories will be available at Margiela boutiques as well as at selected retailers. Check it below.

This video is supposedly a preview of a Carmen Electra sex tape that was leaked to the Internet, but let me tell you something is really fishy here.  Way to many cuts to be a true sex tape.

Thanksgiving must be in the air, because this month of November has been a  cornucopia of riches for those of you out there, unlike myself, that enjoy watching leaked sex tapes of famous or soon to be famous people.

 Shauna, of course, is speaking from experience, as her former boyfriend released her sex tape, on the eve of ex-husband Lorenzo Lamas and current family had premiered their own reality T.V. program on a major cable network. Shauna has offered to sit down with her over ‘tea’ so she could consult her one on one, sex tape producer to sex tape producer. 

Let’s see what Carrie decides to do…take the devils money, or cash in and blaze new trials as a christian porno actress. Today, singing star, actress, and all around sex goddess, Carmen Electra stepped up to the plate and has leaked her own private porno sex tape, but hers is not a solo affair. 

 What it does mean is that the search for it will on the internet will make her the queen of internet searches for a few days, which should help promote the sale of her upcoming movie or book release. Electra, 37, can be seen wearing nothing but black high heels, stockings, panties, a red bra and a diamond-studded choker in a new short posted on website NucleonForce.com.

The most interesting one out of any leaked sex tape that I have been forced to review as a ‘journalist’ comes from newcomers Miss Japan 2008 Miroko Mima and Miss Trinidad & Tobago Anya Ayoung-Chee who both met and competed in the 2008 Miss Universe pageant with Carrie Prejean. 

Do not be too curious, because why mess up a good gig over some prurient entertainment, unless of course, your job is to report on such news for a blog or other legitimate news reporting services.

I predict the two of them will be famous, but that Miss Trinidad and Tobago is flat-out beautiful. She will have an extensive career in front of the cameras, so do not be mad at her.

 I give this one 15 stars out of 10, and the leaked tape speaks for itself.

 It is being reported that the action was stolen off of her Miss Trinidad’s former boyfriend’s laptop, when he left it at a computer repair shop. That sounds to me like a lie, because we all know that most people delete their porn from their desktop before leaving it at a repair shop,….at least I do.

 I am obviously joking here with all of this, but it is amazing to me that there are so many high-profile people out there that film themselves having illicit sex. Carrie Prejean claims that she just wanted to give her boyfriend a gift, and I have heard that before many times from young girls.

I know when I bring gifts to an intimate female companion, I better show up with some flowers and merchandise if I plan on coming back. A sex tape will not cut it for the women I know, …but it would be great for them to make one and give it to me.

 I just would not be in it. Unfortunetly this does send out the wrong message to all the little girls out there that want to become celebrities. It seems as though that a ‘leaked’ sex tape is going to be mandatory for  young lady to rise to fame and popularity in today’s culture.

The viral nature of just such an exhibition has worked wonders for many of todays starlets and that might be a double-edged sword. 

I expect a lot of self righteous declarations of piousness to be espoused in reaction to this sexual exploitation in our culture, and I discourage any of my relatives to go down this path,so I do not have to be exposed to it.

 But, the reality of it is, is that it is not illegal if the parties are of age and consenting adults, it’s just inadvisable.

 I recommend a bit of discretion, but I do understand the pressure that we in Hollywood put on the female stars to stay relevant, and to be noticed.

If you are related to me, I suggest you make something eles for your boyfriend…

 Proceed with caution….as I call to book my one way ticket to Trinidad and Tobago with a layover in Japan!!!

Two former Miss Universe contestants are stealing the sex tape scandal spotlight, after a home video hit the web reportedly featuring Miss Japan 2008 and Miss Trinidad and Tobago 2008 engaged — fully engaged — in a hardcore three-way with some dude, reportedly a professional photographer.

Hiroko Mima (Japan) and Anya Ayoung-Chee (T&T) both competed in the 2008 Miss Universe pageant.

TMZ spoke with a rep from the Miss Universe pageant who tells us, “This was apparently eight months after the pageant and neither were the reigning titleholder..”

The photographer is NOT a Miss Universe staffer so we have nothing to say or any involvement … thank goodness

TMZ won’t be publishing the movie. Damn!
