Rapidi rapidi rapidi! Due canzoni in rapida successione. Siamo carichi vero? Allora, la prossima band è finlandese, e diciamo che più o meno il loro stile si avvicina a quello dei Within Temptation ascoltati poco fa. Questa band ha cambiato due cantanti.. cantantesse non si può dire vero? Comunque, la precedente, Tarja Turunen adesso prosegue con una carriera da solista, (quella sì che è una bella voce) mentre adesso è Anette Olzon a condurre le redini del gruppo… per modo di dire !
Comunque, la prossima canzone fa parte del repertorio della gothic metal band finlandese in epoca Tarja! Ascolteremo adesso (forse la canzone che più mi piace di questo gruppo) Nemo, dei Nightwish!

Tarja Soile Susanna Turunen Cabuli empezó a estudiar música a la temprana edad de 6 años tocando el piano y a la edad de 15 años inició sus estudios musicales de canto clásico en la Academia Sibelius en la ciudad finlandesa de Kuopio, concentrándose en el canto clásico. Allí tuvo como compañero a Tuomas Holopainen quien la invitó a cantar en el proyecto que estaba elaborando por entonces. Bajo el nombre de Nightwish presentaron un demo a la compañía finlandesa Spinefarm y grabaron un primer disco titulado “Angels Fall First”, el cual produjo un impacto inusitado en la escena metalera mundial. Este impacto se magnificaría con la edición del segundo álbum, “Oceanborn”, en 1998, estableciendo a Nightwish como una de las bandas más importantes de la movida del Power Metal con cantante femenina junto con The Gathering y Theatre of Tragedy, y una influencia decisiva en exitosas bandas posteriores como Epica y Xandria.

A partir de aquel hito, Tarja se convirtió en la cara del grupo y apareció en las portadas de las revistas metaleras más prestigiosas de Noruega, Alemania, España, Brasil, Francia, Suecia, Bélgica, Finlandia y Argentina, entre otros: Scream Magazine, Revista Epopeya y Roadie Crew. Fue especialmente en Finlandia donde su estatus de estrella no paró de crecer. Permaneció con Nightwish nueve años, pero paralelamente continuó con sus estudios de canto y tuvo oportunidad de realizar algunas actividades en este terreno específico cantando Opera, música erudita y como solista de algunos coros. A saber, a fines de 1999, participó como cantante solista en una producción de ballet moderno del Finnish National Opera House, titulado “The Evankeliumi”; a partir de 2001 integró los conciertos denominados “Noche Escandinava” en teatros de Chile y Argentina junto con Ingvild Storhaug, Izumi Kawakatzu y Marjut Paavilainen; también fueron sonados los conciertos con canciones de Navidad que para esas fechas ha ofrecido en las principales ciudades de Europa con repertorio de Sibelius, Bach y Mozart los últimos años. Entre las participaciones relativas al rock y al metal, se destacaron la del proyecto Beto Vázquez Infinity, álbum debut del bajista argentino Beto Vázquez, ex-Nepal, que obtuvo gran repercusión internacional, la del single del cantante y guitarrista alemán Martin Kesici titulado “Leaving You For Me”, y la del disco de su hermano Timo Turunen.

Estamos próximos ao último show da turne do album “Dark Passion Play” da banda Nightwish, eu compareci ao Show em São Paulo no ano passado, e posso fazer uma comparação com outros shows da banda aqui, pois estive em diversos.

Nightwish

Primeiro sobre este Álbum, o “Dark Passion Play” e muito interessante, pois a banda conseguiu apresentar uma fórmula de não decepcionar os fãs mesmo trazendo a frente uma vocalista muito mais fraca tecnicamente, os arranjos foram simplesmente perfeitos, e a participação do vocal masculino trouxe um pouco mais de peso ao som.

A nova vocalista da banda – Anette Olzon, foi realmente uma surpresa, apesar da grande diferença entre ela e Tarja Turunen, seu vocal foi bem treinado e mostrou durante os shows o espirito da banda, como se fossem amigos há décadas, seu nervosismo pesou, os fãs brasileiro não ajudaram em nada, e eu francamente fiquei com vergonha alheia pelos fãs que gritaram o nome da antiga vocalista.

A turne em geral foi simples, sem grandes shows e noticias, o espírito da banda parece estar vivo, porém agora os fãs esperam um novo trabalho com muito mais presença, sem a desculpa da adaptação do som a nova vocalista, sem mencionar o pouco tempo de ensaio e preparação em geral, espera-se do novo Album um som mais maduro, pois este vai ser decisivo para o futuro da banda.

Por um lado eles podem manter o mesmo estilo, e segurar seus fãs por mais alguns anos, por outro lado a banda pode mostrar um novo estilo, um som mais pesado e mais maduro, podendo se firmar inclusive estourar novamente como fez com o album “Nemo”, essa parece ser a decisão correta… afinal, dificilmente uma pessoa consegue ouvir “Metal Melódico” para sempre.

I am proud to announce the first review on the Voice Within. I am now a critic. I will be reviewing books, CDs, TV shows, etc. So I am proud to give the honor of my first album review to the debut album of Tarja Turunen, the former lead singer of Nightwish.

After being fired from Nightwish, Tarja released her solo album My Winter Storm, the same year as Nightwish’s album Dark Passion Play, with their new singer Anette – what a coincidence. I purchased My Winter Storm over the summer and I have listened to it non stop. It begins with the soft prelude “Ite, Missa, Est” and then the Requiem inspired song “I Walk Alone.” This song is quite powerful and Tarja’s voice sounds even better than it did in Nightwish. That song is followed by “Lost Northern Star.” This song is all about the guitars. I love it. I love all of the hard rock songs on her album. My Little Phoenix (and the prelude Escape of the Doll), Poison – a cover of the Alice Cooper song, and Die Alive. Die Alive is my favorite. I especially enjoy the middle of the song with the choir chanting and the horns in the background – it is so epic, and it sends chills down my spine!

I also like the powerful ballads such as The Reign (and the prelude Seeking for the Reign), Boy and the Ghost, Min0r Heaven, Sing for Me, and Damned and Divine. They are all very powerful, and Tarja and her excellent team of songwriters put a lot of thought and originallity in to each song. There is a son that is very special as well, called Oasis, which is actually in Finnish despite the name. It is very quiet and peaceful, and Tarja brings out the best in her voice. Calling Grace is another song like that. That is simply amazing! It is a perfect closing to the album - that is if you don’t have the bonus tracks, Damned and Divine [live], and You Would Have Loved This [live].

There are many reviews out there that express disappointment in My Winter Storm. It is one of the best albums I have ever listened to. In fact, I will admit that I actually like it better than most Nightwish albums. I am singing my praise to this album!!!!

But one song I don’t like is Ciaran’s Well. First of all, it is very awkward. The scream doesn’t come until after like 10 seconds and you don’t expect it. It made me jump the first time! Tarja’s voice is a bit annoying at the end too, if anyone liked the song enough to get to the end. But that is really my only complaint. 

Over all, it is an amazing album. Turunen does an amazing job combining several genres such as classical, baroque, rock, metal, and others. I cannot wait for her new album in 2010. Peace out everyone.

I still have tons of music to go through such as Sirenia, Sonata Arctica and Epica, but here are some older Nightwish songs! Great way to see the evolution of the band. You’ll also never see these songs performed live again (well, not like this), so it’s great to see some of these live.

Tarja Soile Susanna Turunen Cabuli soprano lírico Dramática nacida el 17 de agosto de 1977 en Kitee, Finlandia, famosa por formar parte del grupo de Symphonic Power Metal Nightwish, donde combinó el entrenamiento clásico de su voz con la instrumentación del Metal. En octubre de 2005 fue expulsada de Nightwish por diferencias con el resto de la agrupación.

Su carrera solista se había iniciado discográficamente el 1 de Diciembre de 2004 con el single “One Angel´s Dream” (“Yhden Enkelin Unelma”), siendo aun integrante de Nightwish.
El 28 de Octubre de 2005 sale a la venta “Tag Und Nacht” de Schiller, en el cual en su versión Deluxe, interpreta la canción “Tired Of Being Alone”.
En Diciembre de 2005 realiza una gira navideña donde interpreta Villancicos por diferentes teatros de Europa.
Participa además en el “Savolina Opera Festival”.
También en el campo del canto clásico, viaja a Buenos Aires donde da clases a músicos ya de nivel avanzado.
Incursiono también en la TV Finesa como actriz invitada en dos series, entre otras participaciones televisivas.

En Octubre de 2006 finalizo la grabación de su disco de Navidad “Henkäys Ikuisuudesta” (Aliento del Cielo).
El primer single de este disco “You Would Have Love This” fue editado el 25 de octubre.
“Henkäys Ikuisuudesta” fue disco de platino con mas de 30.000 copias vendidas en Finlandia.

El 14 de Noviembre de 2007 llega “My Winter Storm”, con muy buena repercusión mundial y bien recibido por la critica especializada.
También fue lanzado el primer single “I Walk Alone”.
La gira promocional de My Winter Storm comenzo antes de fin de año y ya recorrio las mas importantes ciudades europeas con gran éxito.

El 7 de marzo de 2008, Universal Music lanza el segundo single: “Die Alive”.
Con My Winter Storm, llegan las nominaciones a los Premios ECHO y los Premios Emma.
Se convierte en disco de platino en Finlandia y disco de oro en Rusia, Hungría y Republica Checa.
En Agosto de 2008, se inicia la gira por México y Sudamerica acompañada por los destacados músicos Kiko Loureiro, Mike Terrana, Douglas Wimbish, Max Lilja y Maria Ilmoniemi.

Villieläin es una banda procedente de Tampere, Finlandia. De estilo gothic/industrial metal, con claras influencias de bandas como Elis y Nightwish logra tener un cierto estilo que le ha valido una cierta popularidad. Lastimosamente no he logrado encontrar un video digno de esta banda, únicamente este corto a continuación:

Sus letras están en fines y están basadas en los cuentos de los hermanos Grimm. Como sé que es muy difícil conseguir este material en latinoamerica les dejo referencia a una entrada de un excelente blog, por si estáis interesados en descargar su álbum para el 2009 “Julma Satu”. Muy recomendable este material, que como antes mencione, va en la linea de bandas como Nightwish, Lunatica, Katra, Tacere, Amberian Dawn, etc; la vocalista Emilia “Nemilia” Rantasalo posee una gran entonación, que mas puedo decir sino invitarlos los enlaces para mas información:

Review/Experience:

Usually, I’m not a fan of rock/metal, but Nightwish is an exception, I just love them. Sadly, their vocalist Tarja Turunen was fired and she began her solo career. She’s a professional soprano and that’s why I love her so much. In 2008, I bought a ticket to see her in Bogotá, Colombia for her Winter Storm Tour, but sadly I lost that money because I never got to plan my trip.

When Tarja announced that she was coming to Venezuela, I screamed of excitement! I just couldn’t believe it. The ticket sales were supposed to be in early March but no information was available, until one day that finally the date of sales was announced and the price information as well: it was way cheaper than I imagined! And it was one price only, no general or VIP sections.

That day, I woke up early and went to the Esperanto record store in San Ignacio Mall, it was like 7 in the morning. For my surprise, there were already 4 people in line! The sale opened at 10 am and I was the 5th person to get my ticket! Also, I met a few fans of Tarja and we exchanged cellphone numbers and e-mails to stay in touch for the concert.

Days later, a Fan Club group was created in Facebook and I joined of course, there we had every information about Tarja. One of the highlights was the notification about Tarja’s signing sessions the day before the concert! I was going insane! (I’ll write later about how I met her!).

May 20th: I woke up at 6 am, tired but happy because of the signing sessions. Took a taxi to the mall and there was already a line going on outside the mall! I was like the 20th something person to arrive. Again, we made a list to maintain the order of who came first.

At 10 am, we finally got inside the mall and began to do the line in front of the entrance to the Venue. I met with more friends there and the marathon was about to being: sitting/standing there until 9 pm! I couldn’t believe that I had to wait so many hours! At noon, me and some friends went to buy food while others were taking care of our positions in the line. In the afternoon, a big rain storm began -no, it wasn’t rain storm, it was a flood!- Thank god we were inside. By the way, the security was very ANNOYING in everything! They didn’t allow us to seat on the floor, move out to somewhere else, no pictures, etc., it was a pain in the ass!

Near 9 pm, the security people began deliver some  numbers, to keep up the entrance order, but many people got in our way and entered first than us! About 9:30 pm, a big riot was about to begin, it was already half hour late and we still doing the line, also, there were many crazy emo-rock guys that were drunk or stoned or whatever that wanted to cause disturbs, which in case that it would’ve happened, it would affect us all!

Finally we got in, almost at 10 pm, and for my surprise (being one of the first to get in) there was already 3 rows of people in front of the stage!!! Unbelievable! Ah, don’t miss this: the venue was SUPER SMALL (20 meters width, 40 in height) and had no air conditioners! So I was very very near the stage, and people were coming and coming, I already began to feel sofocated.

When Tarja finally appeared, singing “Lost Northern” star, everyone screamed and sang. But in the 2nd song, there were some IDIOTS that began to push everyone side to side, and I almost fell. I wasn’t enjoying the concert: between the pushing, the lack of air and being aware of my personal belongings, I really wanted to get out of there. So during the 3rd song, “She Is My Sin”, me and my friend Jhon, began to walk to the back of the venue. During the Band interlude, we finally got out of the insane crowd that was near the stage and walked of to buy some sodas.

In the back of the “room” (small venue, seemed like a f***in’ room) there was PLENTY OF SPACE! We still saw Tarja at her best, could breathe, dance, sing and smoke! It was AMAZING! No riots, people just standing and enjoying the concert, as it should be! I recorded 4 videos (yes! Tarja allows cameras in her concerts!). When she sang Nightwish’s songs, everyone went insane.

Tarja sang her “final” song, Oasis and left. Everyone began to scream and request another song, the most requested was “The Phantom of the Opera” but sadly, Tarja didn’t have a male singer in her band. Suddenly, the band came again and everyone began to cheer, and out of nothing there it was: MASTER! APPRENTICE!!!!! Tarja singing Wishmaster! I banged my head like I never did!

The concert was over and they played a remix of one Schiller’s song where Tarja collaborated called “Tired of Being Alone”, Jhon and I stood there singing that song haha! When I was exiting the place, I saw a friend from college that I never expected to see in a concert like this, because she’s all about spanish romantic songs, not hard metal opera songs! haha.

It was midnight, and the line for the taxis was big and thank god I didn’t spend my last 30 bucks, because that was how much the taxi charged me to my home!

As I said before, all the information was sent through the Facebook’s group. A week earlier the concert, the producers announced that there was going to be a signing session the day before the concert (May 19th) in the Esperanto record store. I couldn’t believe it!

Now the question was, what will I bring for her to sign? I remembered that my friend Susana bought me 2 years ago, the Extreme Limited Edition of Tarja’s “My Winter Storm” album in 2-LP Vinyl format, but we never got to meet and she moved to Spain last november!

So I called her and she said that I should call her ex-boyfriend because he had my disc. The sunday before the week’s concert, I went to his house and he gave me my vinyl, finally!

On May 19th, I got up at 4:30 am, took a show and arrived at the mall at 5:20 am! There was no one there, I felt happy to be the first but no, a girl approached to me and said: – Are you here for Tarja’s signing sessions? – and I said yes. I walked to the stairs and there were already five people in line! There was a list that we had to sign our names, so we could know who was first.

It was almost noon and there were MANY people in line, the security of the mall was a pain in the ass again! We couldn’t be inside the mall, we couldn’t stand in front of other business front doors, etc. So finally, a representative of Profit Productions came, and gave us a ticket with a number on it, that was the number of entrance to the store to meet Tarja. After being all morning thirsty, hungry and tired, once we had our numbers, Jhon, his friends and me went to lunch and walk through the Mall.

It was 7 pm and Tarja was about to come. We were already in our line. We were informed that Tarja would sign only ONE item per person and that gave me anger: I had the vinyl disc, the extended CD edition and a Japanese Nightwish’s single… Oh well, I’ll guess I’ll chose the vinyl.

FINALLY IT IS MY TURN! I go inside the record store and I see Tarja sitting there signing a poster to a guy. The security people were so mean, they pushed everyone and hurried everyone, you barely could say hi to her So, it was my turn, I approached to her very nervous and she says to me: – Hola! – (yes, she speaks Spanish) but I wanted to give her a good impression and knowing that her spanish ISN’T THAT PERFECT, I replied her in english: – Hi! -. I extend my vinyl to her and her face expressions was surprised! She said to me: – Oh wow! This is nice! Where did you get it? – and I said: – Well, I bought it in London last year! -, she was going to tell me something but the IDIOT WOMAN of the security screamed at me: STOP TALKING THAT MUCH TO HER, HURRY UP!

I was so angry! But I didn’t listen to her. Tarja asked my name and signed me my Vinyl! – Picture? – she said. But of course!!! When I turn back, there was NO ONE to hold my camera and take a picture, but I saw a guy behind me and screamed him desperately: – HEY, TAKE A PICTURE QUICK! PLEASE! -. So he did. I thanked Tarja and walked away, when I turned back to look at her once again, she threw me a kiss!

Once I was outside, everyone were HALLUCINATING with my autographed Vinyl disc! Here’s the picture:

Afgelopen weekend was ik naar de Elf Fantasy Fair in Arcen, Limburg. Daardoor waren er uiteraard geen nieuwe blogs te vinden hier, maar ik had het echt helemaal naar mijn zin daar.
Zaterdag heb ik lekker veel gedanst op de muziek van Kelten zonder Grenzen. Helaas waren er bijna geen mensen die dansten, dus bij een Mazurka danste ik alleen met een vriendin, niemand anders danste, wat was eng-ig XD Helaas werd een andere vriendin ziek tijdens die dag, dat was echt balen
‘S avonds was het concert van Tarja, en dat was zoooooo ontzettend gaaf! Ik kende haar CD eigenlijk niet, maar toen het tweede nummer ging spelen werd ik helemaal gek! Het was een Nightwish nummer, She is my Sin!
Ik had nooit gedacht dat ze nog NW nummers zou spelen, en dacht dus niet dat ik die ooit live met Tarja zou horen, wel dus! Ze kan gewoon echt zó goed zingen! De drummer was ook echt freaky goed en eng. Zijn hele drumstel was uitgebreid, en hij kon spelen! Niet normaal!
Ik heb mijn knieën helemaal kapot gesprongen geloof ik

We zijn na het concert gelijk naar de bus gegaan, en dat was maar goed ook, want we haalden de laatste trein met vijf minuten speling: Oepsie!
De volgende ochtend was de vriendin die ook mee was nog steeds ziek, en dus ging ze naar huis. Ik heb toen de zondag alleen rond gelopen op de Fair. Nog wat nieuwe plekken ontdekt, en de tekenaarsters (:P) gezien die in het kasteel waren, echt super hoe die kunnen tekenen! Ik kende ze allebei wel al van hun werk, maar toch, als je dan originelen ziet is dat wel anders dan op je computerschermpje
Ik heb ook nog veels te veel geld uitgegeven, maar nu heb ik wel een super mooi horloge gekocht, waarvan de achterkant doorzichtig is zodat je het uurwerk kan zien draaien. Het is opwindbaar en supergaaf, ik ben er zó blij mee!
En omdat een horloge alles met tijd te maken heeft, een leuke quote o ver tijd die ontzettend waar is:

Por circunstancias, al navegar en internet me he encontrado con muchos foros y blogs hablando de las chicas hermosas del metal. Se dan muchas votaciones pero se deja de lado(como siempre) a muchas bandas con hermosas y talentosas vocalistas. Una de ellas es Johanna Charlotte Wessels, la vocalista de Delain, una banda holandesa con gran potencial.

..Visto che il clima si è autunnalizzato (adoro i neologismi!), direi che è giunta l’ora di fare un riassunto di quest’estate pregna di eventi..ma soprattutto di sfiga!

Eh sì, perché contro ogni previsione due dei gruppi della santa trinità sono giunti in Europa insieme nello stesso tour, e io non li ho potuti vedere! È la prima volta che non vedo gli AFI non appena abbiano toccato suolo europeo più o meno da quando esistono, per cui la cosa mi fa parecchio soffrire. Non aggiungo altro, altrimenti mi torna il tic all’occhio (“no mamma non sono stata io a prendere a testate il muro!!!“).

Ma non è finita qui. Sono giunti anche i Rise Against che purtroppo non ho mai visto live. DAMN. Come se non bastasse, i festival ai quali hanno suonato queste due band si tenevano in Germania e UK, Paesi che adoro…e insieme a loro hanno suonato Die Toten Hosen e Apocalyptica e Faith No More.

Devo aggiungere altro? No. Ecco. Appunto.

Ma le bruttecose non sono finite qui: ai primi di agosto ho perso il festival dei festival, l’evento degli eventi, il tripudio dei tripudi: il Wacken Open Air. Praticamente una settimana di metal, birra, metal, metal, campeggio, metallari tedeschi, clima nord-europeo…insomma il Valhalla sceso in Terra! (No, non il paradiso..il Valhalla è meglio perché è come una gigantesca ed eterna Oktober Fest).

Bene. Fantastico. È finita ora la dose di sfiga?

Of course not.

Come avete letto nel mio post precedente, è giunta la notizia anche da Dio Trent Reznor che quello di quest’estate sarebbe stato l’ultimo tour dei Nine Inch Nails…per sempre. O almeno per tanto ma tanto ma tanto tempo. Questa notizia mi ha completamente lasciata allibita e sperduta. Uno dei miei punti di riferimento sonori, una delle mie (poche) ferree certezze vitali si è sgretolata, è scoppiata come una bolla di sapone (ok scusate la metafora del cavolo, ma sono sconvolta, non pretendiamo troppo!). Niente più NIN. Il mio cervello semplicemente non lo vuole accettare.

Tutto questo ha contribuito ad amplificare le mie già massicce manie ossessivo-compulsive. Quindi se mi vedete in giro e vi sembro una maniaca, sapete perché. E non è colpa mia.

Però bisogna dire che sono successe anche alcune cose belle.

La prima cosa bella è una derivata diretta della triste novella dataci da Dio Trent Reznor: infatti sapendo che non avrei più potuto vederli, mi sono precipitata a uno degli ultimi concerti in terra italica. Ma di questo potete leggere nel post precedente. Il concerto in questione è stato seguito da un week end che ha messo a durissima prova il mio self control, nonché i miei (pochi) neuroni rimasti: la due giorni del Gods Of Metal.

Quest’anno il festival metalloso si è tenuto in quel di Monza, location storica che ci ha evitato: a)l’inferno dell’Arena Parco Nord di Bologna degli scorsi anni e b)il forno crematorio del Palasharp di Milano dell’edizione 2003 – alla quale io sono eroicamente sopravvissuta (inchinatevi).

Innanzitutto, diciamo che il neurone è stato pesantemente minacciato dalla presenza di uno dei miei idoli assoluti..sì, proprio lui, il Nikki Sixx in persona! Per sfiga non sono riuscita a guadagnarmi la prima fila per il concerto dei suoi Mötley Crüe, quindi l’ho visto solo da una ventina di metri – e forse è stato meglio così. Il concerto oggettivamente è stato mediocre, visto che Vince Neil ormai è un po’ un chiattone (sempre con rispetto parlando), ma Nikki è Nikki e i Mötley spaccano sempre e comunque. Cerco ora di non soffermarmi a considerazioni su Nikki, più che altro perché non voglio che mi censurino il blog. E per chi si chiedeva se era vero che avrebbero suonato tutto “Dr. Feelgood” sul palco del Crüefest europeo dico che..è vero!  Ecco un’immagine a titolo illustrativo del mio neurone dopo aver visto Nikki Sixx dal vivo:

In quest’occasione ho avuto inoltre il piacere di vedere uno degli dèi dell’olimpo metallico, ovvero un Ronnie James Dio più in forma che mai, una Lita Ford meravigliosa e dei fantastici Tesla. Come a confermare che ormai la buona musica arriva quasi esclusivamente dalle vecchie leve. Mi sono persa il set dei Backyard Babies al pomeriggio…ma pace, perchè nonostante mi piacciano davvero un sacco odio Dregen con tutte le mie forze quindi il non vederlo non è stato assolutamente un problema – anzi.

Seconda giornata del Gods decisamente più extreme. Iniziamo la giornata a suon di brutal grazie allo stereo del vicino di tenda, e dopo un meraviglioso (-.-) viaggio in bus fino al Brianteo facciamo colazione guardandoci lo show di Black Dahlia Murder e Napalm Death…meglio di così! I Saxon si perdono nell’ iperspazio, mi sento Tarja dagli spalti per il troppo sole (la adoro sempre, ma senza Tuomas Holopainen non è la stessa cosa), e mi godo il meraviglioso set dei Down di Phil Anselmo: non li avevo mai visti live ma spero di rivederli presto. La classe non è acqua. Tra l’altro, mentre aspettavamo lo show degli Slipknot, il batterista dei Down (Jimmi Bower) si è avvicinato alla transenna per firmare alcuni autografi e fare foto e *udite udite* mi ha addirittura baciato la mano…it’s love! Peccato lui abiti dall’altra parte del mondo…altrimenti…………

Subito dopo scendo in prima fila per il set degli immensi Blind Guardian, che propongono alcune delle loro chicche (immancabile “Nightfall”, meravigliosa “Imaginations from the Other Side” e sempre commovente “The Bard’s Song” cantata da tutti i presenti a squarciagola) insieme a  qualche canzone nuova che purtroppo non conosco. Non importa, l’esaltazione è grande sebbene il vedere Hansi Kürsch con i capelli cosrti abbia irrimediabimente sconvolto la mia esistenza quasi quanto l’usufruire dei bagni pubblici del Brianteo. Cena sbrigativa e molto, molto frugale sul prato ascoltando i mitici Carcass e poi via a corsa ad accaparrarsi la santa transenna per lo show degli Slipknot.

Nell’attesa dobbiamo subirci i Dream Theater, che nonostante l’innegabile superiorità tecnica rispetto ai comuni mortali sono di una noia insostenibile..io infatti collasso a terra tramortita dopo soli 10 minuti (che per i DT equivalgono all’intro di una canzone). Ma l’attesa paga e lo show dei nove di Des Moines non tradisce le aspettative: come sempre potentissimi, tecnicamente immensi e capaci di uno show degno di tale nome fatto di ottima musica, teatralità e carica emotiva. Il Brianteo è lì lì per esplodere quando Corey Taylor intona “People=Shit”, “Wait and Bleed” e la meravigliosa “Psychosocial”. Non sono mancati i momenti tradizionali che tutti i fans della band conoscono perfettamente ed ecco tutti i presenti sedersi a terra a metà di “Spit it out” per poi esplodere in un salto collettivo da far tremare la terra al segnale di Corey (“JUMPDAFUCKUP!!!”). Non è mancato nemmeno il momento di gloria del nostro amato Joey Jordison, con la solita batteria rotante. Le mie costole portano ancora i segni del tripudio, ma -damn- ne è valsa la pena!

I ricordi del Gods sono sempre bellissimi, dai viaggi isterici in bus da e per il campeggio, al tizio collassato in mezzo al prato sotto il sole del pomeriggio del sabato e per il quale tutta la gradinata faceva il tifo..fino al balletto improvvisato sulle note di Michael Jackson da parte di tutti i metalheads presenti a fine festival..e questo basta quasi a perdonare la Live per i soliti abomini (come ad esempio il fatto che l’acqua è finita alle 14 della domenica pomeriggio lasciando ai presenti la scelta tra il morire di sete e ubriacarsi di birra e superalcolici). Perché diciamolo, nonostante tutti i veterani da festival metal snobbino a parole il Gods ogni santo anno, alla fine è arduo rinunciare a partecipare. E divertirsi.

Bene, dopo questo brevissssssimo recap del festival, rimangono un paio di altre ilari cosette da raccontare.

Innanzitutto i sopracitati AFI si sono finalmente decisi a fissare la data d’uscita del prossimo album, “Crashlove” (sì, questo titolo mi mette un terrore immenso -.-), per il 29 settembre. È un peccato che non abbiano sfruttato la data del 9.9.09 che avrebbe fatto coppia perfetta con “Decemberunderground”, uscito il 6.6.06. E va beh. Almeno stavolta la data d’uscita sembrerebbe ufficiale, e non un delirio mentale (leggi: presa per il c***) di Jade. Questo è confermato dal fatto che il primo singolo, “Medicate”, è già acquistabile presso iTunes e quindi la data d’uscita non può essere troppo lontana. Singolo per altro veramente molto bello: non posso essere oggettiva parlando degli AFI per tutta una serie di motivi, quindi eviterò la recensione tendenziosa e mi limiterò a dire che lo trovo uno dei migliori singoli che abbiano mai scritto, molto meglio sicuramente di “Miss Murder”. Come sempre riescono a stupirmi, e l’hanno fatto ancora di più con la pubblicazione di un’altra canzone previously unreleased disponibile per il download gratis dal sito ufficiale, “Fainting Spells”. Non ho parole per descrivere questa canzone, il sound è subito riconoscibile ma è totalmente originale e la amo già dopo pochissimi ascolti..e poi il modo di scrivere di Davey è sempre stupefacente: come al solito si conferma, a mio parere, uno dei migliori lyricist in circolazione. Bentornati AFI!

Bene, penso che le cose importanti siano su per giù queste. E se siete arrivati a leggere questa frase vi faccio i miei complimenti – siete degli impavidi!

Kylie statt Dolores? Liv statt Dolores? Ach, ich weiß auch nicht…

Es begab sich letzten Freitag, dass ich mich in die Stuttgarter Innenstadt begab und den Saturn im Königsbau heim-…äh…aufsuchte. Ob der schieren Größe konnte ich da schon so manches Mal meinen Hunger nach ausgefalleneren Dingen stillen, doch blieb die Suche nach Speziellem an diesem Tag eher erfolglos. Ach ja, in die neue Scheibe von Dolores O’Riordan, No Baggage,  habe ich mal schnell reingehört – aber obwohl ich mir von ihr so ziemlich alles vorsingen lassen würde (ja, ich gehöre zu der Hälfte der Menschheit, die ihre Stimme einfach toll finden), beschlich mich kein Mitnahmeimpuls. Schon allein das Cover: wo ist der tolle Look vom letzten Album geblieben? Dolores sieht jetzt eher aus wie Kylie Minogue. Und wieso ist auf der neuen Platte eigentlich noch mal ein Song vom letzten Album enthalten? »Apple Of My Eye« gehört für mich zwar zu den besten Tracks von Are You Listening? bzw. ist auch für sich genommen einfach ein wunderschöner Song – aber was soll das? Hörte sich nämlich nicht nach einer neuen Version oder so an…

Nein, das werde ich mir noch mal überlegen.

Doch schon erregten neue Klänge meine Aufmerksamkeit: die Nightwish-eske Schwermetalldröhnung, die im Laden lief und ich ab und an mit einem halben Ohr wahrnahm, verstummte und es erklang eine Akustik-Gitarre, die aber mal eindeutig nach »live« klang. Also nix wie hin, und da saßen dann auch zwei Leute auf Barhockern, umringt von einer kleinen Menge langhaariger Schwarzkittel. Irgendwie kamen die mir bekannt vor….

Und da dämmerte mir: ach, das waren wohl Leaves’ Eyes, was da vorhin durch die Ladenbeschallung ertönte. Offenbar promoten sie ihr neues Album Njord durch eine kleine Unplugged-Session-Meet&Greet-Tour. Schöne Idee! Und man merkte auch hier wieder mal: Leute, die sich auf Photos gerne etwas martialischer geben und mit Schwert, Kettenhemd und grimmiger Miene auf dicke Lederhose machen, sind in echt ganz sympathisch.

Die, äh, »PA« sah für mich allerdings eher so aus, als hätte man die Car-HiFi-Abteilung des Saturn geplündert. Da hätten sie denen aber schon was besseres hinstellen können. Liv Kristine entschuldigte sich auch irgendwie für den Sound, hatte ich den Eindruck. Die Magnat-Boxen waren also offensichtlich nicht vom Label gestellt. Und los ging’s zur Freude der versammelten Fans mit ein paar Songs vom neuen Album (natürlich) sowie wohl auch älterem Material. Leider ging der helle und zarte Gesang von Liv Kristine doch oft etwas unter, v.a. wenn Mathias Röderer auf seiner Akustikgitarre etwas herzhafter in die Saiten griff. Hach ja, sie hat ja schon ne schöne Stimme, und kann auch was… aber so ausgeprägte Stimmlappen, äh -bänder wie Tarja Turunen oder auch eine einmalige bzw. polarisierende Stimme wie Dolores oder Amy Lee hat sie halt leider nicht. Vielleicht lag es auch daran, dass mich die über die Shop-Anlage angespielte neue Platte nicht wirklich zum Aufhören brachte, da schien mir die Stimme auch etwas unterrepräsentiert. Ich muss mir die Sachen von Leaves’ Eyes bzw. Liv Kristine mal genauer angucken, denn so unerfolgreich sind sie ja nicht. Aber auch hier musste ich nicht unbedingt mit der Platte in der Hand aus dem Laden gehen.

Zum Glück war heute aber endlich eine ersehnte CD in der Post. Das Wochenende scheint also gerettet!
