She was born in Sweden.  She did her thing, and was in a couple of not very big bands.  After Tarja was fired, a huge audition was held.  Anette won.   Her voice is a little poppy, but still very good.  The band itself is superb musically.  Dark Passion Play is one of the best albums.  Her voice is a drastic change for Nightwish, but it still works.  Check out Amaranth.  It is a great song.  I didn’t like her at first, but every time I listen, I like it more.

Years In Band: 9 (She was an original and founding member.)

Albums: 18 of them.  Some are live, EPs, video, or compilation.  The Studio Albums are Angels Fall First, Oceanborn, Wishmaster, Century Child, Once.

She was a co-founder of the band.  She was born in Finland.  The band is also mostly, if not all, Finnish.  She was trained operatically.  Her voice is one of the most amazing voices I have ever heard.  I loved her voice and am very disappointed that she was fired.  She had married and the rest of the band thought her attitude had changed and that she was more focused on money.  She now has a big solo career and has been called the “Voice of Finland.”

Both Singers have an amazing album.

Once is one of my favorite albums ever.  With the crossover Nemo, the epic Ghost Love Score, and the hardcore Romanticide, this albums is utterly amazing.  Tuomas’ lyrics are so deep and Tarja voice is great.  The music is amazing and Marco hits his parts spot on.

Dark Passion Play is very similar to Once, and is just as superb.  Anette does a great job.  The style is almost exact to Once, just a little better.  Some songs are full of hooks to get you interested and others are very grand to keep you there.  This is really one of the best albums. 

I would personally give Tarja the edge since she was there for so long and my own connection to Once.  But Anette is doing a great job and has potential.

Estamos próximos ao último show da turne do album “Dark Passion Play” da banda Nightwish, eu compareci ao Show em São Paulo no ano passado, e posso fazer uma comparação com outros shows da banda aqui, pois estive em diversos.

Nightwish

Primeiro sobre este Álbum, o “Dark Passion Play” e muito interessante, pois a banda conseguiu apresentar uma fórmula de não decepcionar os fãs mesmo trazendo a frente uma vocalista muito mais fraca tecnicamente, os arranjos foram simplesmente perfeitos, e a participação do vocal masculino trouxe um pouco mais de peso ao som.

A nova vocalista da banda – Anette Olzon, foi realmente uma surpresa, apesar da grande diferença entre ela e Tarja Turunen, seu vocal foi bem treinado e mostrou durante os shows o espirito da banda, como se fossem amigos há décadas, seu nervosismo pesou, os fãs brasileiro não ajudaram em nada, e eu francamente fiquei com vergonha alheia pelos fãs que gritaram o nome da antiga vocalista.

A turne em geral foi simples, sem grandes shows e noticias, o espírito da banda parece estar vivo, porém agora os fãs esperam um novo trabalho com muito mais presença, sem a desculpa da adaptação do som a nova vocalista, sem mencionar o pouco tempo de ensaio e preparação em geral, espera-se do novo Album um som mais maduro, pois este vai ser decisivo para o futuro da banda.

Por um lado eles podem manter o mesmo estilo, e segurar seus fãs por mais alguns anos, por outro lado a banda pode mostrar um novo estilo, um som mais pesado e mais maduro, podendo se firmar inclusive estourar novamente como fez com o album “Nemo”, essa parece ser a decisão correta… afinal, dificilmente uma pessoa consegue ouvir “Metal Melódico” para sempre.

I am proud to announce the first review on the Voice Within. I am now a critic. I will be reviewing books, CDs, TV shows, etc. So I am proud to give the honor of my first album review to the debut album of Tarja Turunen, the former lead singer of Nightwish.

After being fired from Nightwish, Tarja released her solo album My Winter Storm, the same year as Nightwish’s album Dark Passion Play, with their new singer Anette – what a coincidence. I purchased My Winter Storm over the summer and I have listened to it non stop. It begins with the soft prelude “Ite, Missa, Est” and then the Requiem inspired song “I Walk Alone.” This song is quite powerful and Tarja’s voice sounds even better than it did in Nightwish. That song is followed by “Lost Northern Star.” This song is all about the guitars. I love it. I love all of the hard rock songs on her album. My Little Phoenix (and the prelude Escape of the Doll), Poison – a cover of the Alice Cooper song, and Die Alive. Die Alive is my favorite. I especially enjoy the middle of the song with the choir chanting and the horns in the background – it is so epic, and it sends chills down my spine!

I also like the powerful ballads such as The Reign (and the prelude Seeking for the Reign), Boy and the Ghost, Min0r Heaven, Sing for Me, and Damned and Divine. They are all very powerful, and Tarja and her excellent team of songwriters put a lot of thought and originallity in to each song. There is a son that is very special as well, called Oasis, which is actually in Finnish despite the name. It is very quiet and peaceful, and Tarja brings out the best in her voice. Calling Grace is another song like that. That is simply amazing! It is a perfect closing to the album - that is if you don’t have the bonus tracks, Damned and Divine [live], and You Would Have Loved This [live].

There are many reviews out there that express disappointment in My Winter Storm. It is one of the best albums I have ever listened to. In fact, I will admit that I actually like it better than most Nightwish albums. I am singing my praise to this album!!!!

But one song I don’t like is Ciaran’s Well. First of all, it is very awkward. The scream doesn’t come until after like 10 seconds and you don’t expect it. It made me jump the first time! Tarja’s voice is a bit annoying at the end too, if anyone liked the song enough to get to the end. But that is really my only complaint. 

Over all, it is an amazing album. Turunen does an amazing job combining several genres such as classical, baroque, rock, metal, and others. I cannot wait for her new album in 2010. Peace out everyone.

I still have tons of music to go through such as Sirenia, Sonata Arctica and Epica, but here are some older Nightwish songs! Great way to see the evolution of the band. You’ll also never see these songs performed live again (well, not like this), so it’s great to see some of these live.

Wow! Dat was hét woord om het afgelopen MFVF-weekend te omschrijven! Ik vond het echt een fantastisch festivalweekend! De optredens die ik heb gezien waren echt geweldig! Van Canto kreeg terecht de prijs voor beste nieuwkomer, Delain gaf een leuk optreden, Doro verbaasde vriend en vijand en bracht heel wat sfeer in de zaal (wat een podiumbeest!), maar kers op de taart waren absoluut de optredens van Epica en Tarja! Het optreden van Tarja was haar beste dat ik gezien heb. Met haar stem, enthousiasme en uitstraling pakte ze weer de hele zaal in!

Ik heb me geweldig geamuseerd, heb in de VIP bekende muzikanten gezien, leuke mensen leren kennen, koude geleden tijdens het lange wachten op die ene foto en handtekening, maar vooral genoten van een geweldige MFVF-editie!

Тази вечер (12.10.2009) Таря ще пее в зала Универсиада. Слушам Nightwish още от малък и просто нямаше как да пропусна концерта. Миналата година тя пак беше тук и тогава концертът беше размазващ. За разлика от доста нейни колеги, Таря пее вярно и на живо. Нещо повече – Таря пее с чувство и висота. Миналият път пя доста парчета от периода си с Nightwish. Надявам се и сега да е така. Не че не харесвам последните и творби, но все пак съм израсъл с Nightwish. А самите Nightwish няма да можем да видим поне до 2010-та, тъй като имат ангажименти поне с година напред. Но ще почакаме… До тогава – с Таря!

En esta ocasión le tocó el turno a EDENBRIDGE, con el tema “Wild Chase” que perteneciente al álbum Shinedel 2004. A pesar de que el amigo del video comete una serie de errores a lo largo del tema me parece que es buen cover. Espero sus comentarios…. \m/

No los conocía y me sorprendieron muy gratamente. Y más desde que pude hablar con dos de ellos en persona y ver lo simpáticos y cercanos que son.
Otro día hablaré más de ellos. Baste esto como recordatorio de que lo haré 

TARJA LIVE 2009

Llevaba tantos años soñando con ver a Tarja que había asumido que era un sueño. Creo que no reaccioné hasta que sonaron los primeros acordes de “She is my Sin” (una de mis canciones favoritas de Nightwish desde hace tantos años) y al fin el golpeteo de mi corazón y mis ojos húmedos me dijeron que era cierto. La diosa Turunen estaba frente a mí.

El sueño se había hecho tangible. A metros de mi, sobre el escenario la tenía a ella y ella a nosotros. Estaba pletórica, irradiaba energía. No hubo nada que me decepcionara de ella. Tantos años después sigue siendo la reina del metal mundial, el ejemplo de miles de bandas, mi imagen mental de Polgara y una mujer a la que amo profundamente por su talento y su entrega.
Como dice Karalan en su blog, uno de los asistentes gritó de repente: “¡Dios, como te amo! Y nadie se asombró lo más mínimo, únicamente había plasmado en palabras lo que todos sentimos, porque es difícil escuchar a Tarja y no amarla. No es solo que tenga la voz más perfecta del mundo, dulce y enérgica, poderosa, rotunda y envolvente, sino también su carácter y su presencia.
Aún hoy me pregunto si Tuomas no dudará de su decisión y si no será posible echarse atrás y recuperar la vieja era, la era en la que no había que elegir entre “papá” y “mamá”, la era en la que Nightwish reunía “todo” lo que le podía pedir a la música.
No parece probable que Tarja regrese jamás, pero anoche ocurrió un milagro y pude escuchar “She is my sin”, “Nemo” y “Deep Silent Complete”.
Eché de menos “Wishmaster”, “Sleeping Sun” y “Over the hills & far away”, pero no se puede tener tanta suerte.
La verdad es que “Nemo” nunca me entusiasmó. Es la canción más comercial de la vieja era, pero siempre es una alegría oírla en boca de su legítima vocalista y qué decir de las otras dos. Aún ahora me cuesta encontrar palabras para lo qué sentí anoche, arropada por la voz que me ha acompañado cada día durante tantos años, una voz de ángel, de sirena, una voz de fuera de este mundo.

Del repertorio nuevo he de decir que estuvo bien elegido y aunque sigue sin emocionarme como las canciones del maestro Holopainen, Tarja lo hizo tan genial como cabía esperar y los músicos estuvieron geniales. Aunque por supuesto, al mirarles me costaba no imaginar a otros allí, otros que ya nunca compartirán escenario con Tarja, desafortunadamente.
Pero, ¿quién sabe? Quizás con los años sepan solucionar los problemas que los distanciaron. Quizás. Solo cabe soñar.
Por lo pronto, puedo recordar que estuve ahí. Primero frente a Tuomas y ahora, al fin, ante Tarja. Puedo recordar y soñar con la próxima vez.
Yo también te amo, Tarja.

Por primera vez en Madrid y en solitario, un concierto de quien sigue siendo la reina indiscutible del Metal y en cuya voz se funden la fuerza y la belleza de nuestro pueblo. Aun quedan entradas, aunque muy pocas.
