There are certain crime stories you read where you literally wonder, “What could that person possibly have been thinking?”

The kinds of cases where you think they should just skip the pre-trial hearings, the pleas, the trial, the judge, the jury, all of that, and just sentence the individual guilty immediately.

Because there are some things for which there is literally, no POSSIBLE excuse.

I present to you the story of Kiara Medlock and her mother, of Ozark, Arkansas. Seems Kiara, age 10 and all of 65 pounds, was wildly misbehaving on the night of Nov. 12, and her mother called the police.

Officer Dustin Bradshaw arrived at the scene, and when he wasn’t able to subdue Kiara, her mother allegedly told the officer to “tase her if you have to.” Which, after Kiara kicked him, Officer Bradshaw did.

The child was then handcuffed and taken to a youth shelter.

This is despicable by the adults here on so many levels. One, by the officer, who sees no other option when outweighing a child by oh, 100 pounds, then to TASE them? Two, by the mother, for suggesting to the officer that he send volts of electric shock into her daughter?

I’m sorry, I don’t care how violent or unruly the kid is, this is despicable. Check out the brief police report here.

**I came late to “The Wire”. Everyone told me the HBO show about drug dealers and cops was truly amazing, and I heard them and didn’t believe.

Finally, I went out rented the first three seasons on DVD. Best. Show. I’ve. Ever. Seen. I positively worship all five seasons, with Season 5 being David Simon’s ultimate masterpiece. I can’t recommend this show highly enough if you’ve never seen it.

If you’re a big fan like me, you’ll enjoy this: Someone put together the 100 best quotes from “The Wire.” Warning: Not Safe for Work (a bit of colorful language, you might say).

November 20, 2009

The local police chief in Ozark, Arkansas is standing behind one of his officers who tasered a 10-year-old girl who was refusing to go to bed.

The bizarre story is laid out in a police incident report obtained by website The Smoking Gun.

Officer Dustin Bradshaw was called to the home by a woman complaining that her daughter was being unruly and refusing to go to sleep. Bradshaw wrote that when he arrived at the home, he found Kiara Medlock “balled up in (sic) the floor crying and screaming.”

After watching her mother attempt to get Kiara into the bathtub with little success, Bradshaw took the girl into the living room and threatened her with jail. That didn’t settle things down. At some point, Bradshaw claims Kiara’s mother told him to “taser her if I needed to.”

Bradshaw then tried to handcuff Kiara. But he couldn’t manage that either.

To hear Bradshaw tell it, he was now in the midst of a full-on brawl on the living-room floor with Kiara, a Grade 5 student. The 65-pounder was “verbally combative … struck me with her legs and feet in the groin,” Bradshaw wrote.

That’s when he reached for his holster and delivered a “very very (sic) brief drive stun to her back with my taser.”

Unsurprisingly, Kiara’s struggling stopped immediately. Bradshaw then cuffed her and carried her to his squad car, since she could no longer walk.

The incident hit the news when Kiara’s father, Anthony Medlock, took exception. Medlock does not live with Kiara’s mother.

“I want to know how the heck in God’s green earth can they get away with this … If you can’t pick the kid up and take her to your car, handcuff her, then I don’t think you need to be an officer,” Medlock told local Ozark 40/29 news. He said his daughter has shown signs of emotional issues, but she “doesn’t deserve to be treated like a dog.”

The local police chief stood behind Bradshaw and his decision.

“He had no other choice. He had to get the child under control,” said Ozark police Chief Jim Noggle.

No disciplinary action is pending against Bradshaw. However, the Associated Press has reported that the FBI has dispatched agents to Arkansas to investigate.

Medlock said he will attempt to gain sole custody of his daughter.

By now, many of you have heard at least some of the national — scratch that, global — co

By now, many of you have heard at least some of the national — scratch that, global — coverage on the tasing of a young girl, ten years of age, that occurred in good ‘ol Ozark, Arkansas. Let me state, for the record, that I do not live in Ozark, AR. I, in fact, live approximately two hours away from Ozark, AR, and therefore have no vested interest in this town or its police force. Now, I will state for those of you that are “in the know”, I do have a cousin that works for the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department. Ozark, AR, is located within the confines of Franklin County, but the event being disclosed and discussed heretofore involved only the Ozark local city police department, and has no bearing or reflection on the county office (nor do my observations contained herewith).
All that aside, let me begin. For those of you determined to crush the media machine and all the evil propagandizing and fear-mongering that it solely exists to support and propel at the masses by not watching or reading material from any news network, I’ll recap here: a cop tased a 10-year-old girl. Also, the Smoking Gun has posted a copy of the police report here. The story goes that the officer was called to the young lady’s residence by her mother. Why? Because the little hellion apparently did not want to go to bed. In the official report, the officer states that he observed “screaming, kicking, and resisting every time her mother tried to touch her”. The mother tried to put the girl in the shower multiple times while the officer was present, in an attempt to get her ready for bed. Let me temporarily terminate our tale at this juncture.
….Um, WTF? Let’s look at this again. A woman — a woman with a 10-year-old child — called the police because her daughter was kicking and screaming, wouldn’t get in the shower, and did not want to go to bed? Let me say this again. She had an officer dispatched to her residence because her young daughter was acting like….a young girl. Egads. Holy poo. Either I completely failed to recognize the actual usefulness of the local authorities, or this woman just took time out of a cop’s tax-paid salary to help her put her daughter to sleep. Mom, there are many more efficient, not to mention much more cost-effective, ways in which to accomplish this. Here are a few that begin with the letter “B”:

1) Benadryl — winter is rolling around, I’m sure the girl has the sniffles, they make the stuff taste like frikkin’ cotton candy, and she’ll be down for the count in 10.

Bubble Gum?! Yumma dum dum! I'll have mine with some Sailor Jerry!

2) Belts — regardless of your policy on corporal punishment for your child, you granted an officer permission to tase her. Therefore, it’s safe for me to assume that you don’t mind whippin’ out the leather every once in a while and makin’ that ass red (in a very Christian manner, of course).

This is a buckle that can be attached to said belt. I chose this one because it speaks to me personally, and this design remains upon my arse to this day as a constant reminder of what happened when I chose to disobey my parents.

3) Beat the kid — ok, so don’t beat her, just read number two again.

Yeah, this one, too.

Now, having said that, I’ll move on. So she’s alerted the authorities to the domestic terrorism that is apparently taking place in her home. The officer arrives promptly at the residence, probably thinking something to the effect of, “I know this bitch did not call the five-oh because her kid ain’t co-operatin”. At least, that’s what I would be thinking. He enters the home upon the mother’s admission and observes the child flip-floppin’ on the floor and, in general, being a wild hellspawn creature that is more than likely the result of poor child-rearing on the part of her parents. Remember, I’m referencing the genius that decided to call the POLICE BECAUSE HER DAUGHTER WAS THROWING A FIT. F&$%, that’s not going to leave me for a while. The officer then makes “several attempts” to speak with the young girl, who is now balled up on the floor, screaming and crying. It’s at this point that the mother attempts to pick the girl up and put her in the shower, and the girl resists, apparently by kicking and screaming. Stop for a second. I’m just trying to think this out in my head…I’m 10 years old, I’m in trouble for causing a ruckus at my house, and my effing mother has just called the cops on me, who have just shown up at my door. I can only imagine what is going through the head of an actual 10-year-old at this point, but my “fight or flight” reflex would have kicked in the moment I realized my ridonkulous mother actually just called the cops. “Balled up on the floor” my ass — I would have “vacated the residence” and caught the “next train to Georgia”, then “lived in squalor” whilst trying to “make a decent buck”, and eventually landed myself “in jail” and “got raped”.

My mom called the cops on me when I was 10! What's your excuse?!

Right after this short moment, the mother turns to the officer in what must have been her most glorious moment of clarity ever since coming down off of that meth-binge that more than likely began sometime in the early 90’s when meth wasn’t even cool, and informed the young gentlemen that he can “tase her if he needed to”. Well humpty-doody-dori. Something here tells me that this mother had it in her scrambled eggs and sausage Denny’s mess mind that this was what needed to happen before the officer even showed up. Who the hell just gives an officer permission to tase their 10 year old daughter after he’s been there two minutes “observing” her screaming and throwing a fit? Come on, at least buy a guy a dinner first. Maybe even a movie!

Jodi Sweetin: I just couldn't imagine calling the cops on my daughter when she turned 10 and then giving them permission to tase her. So I quit meth immediately when I found out I was pregnant!

The report goes on to show that the officer and the mother, in a joined effort apparently, tried to carry the girl to the shower. The girl continued to twist and shout (mad props to you, Chubby Checkers), and the officer realized that “there was not going to be a peaceful resolution to the issue”. Detractors to the action that ultimately occurred will cry, “See?! He just went right for his taser! He didn’t even try!” I say, “Nay, nay”. The officer took the girl back into the living room, sat her down, and attempted to reason with her. Officer Man, first mistake. This 10-year-old Bathsheba is a woman in the making, and knows all your tricks already. I know, I know, they look innocent, they act innocent, and those big donkey tears streaming down her face probably convinced you immediately that she could be reasoned with. I say, “Nay, nay”. The taser actually should have been the first thing to come out, but it wasn’t. The officer sat the young lady down and told her, flat-out, “You’re going to jail if you keep acting like this.” The girl’s response? To keep acting like that. Taser now? You’d expect a yes, but no. The officer kept a cool head.

I'm getting pissed just looking at this tantrum. Anybody seen my taser?

He then attempted to place her under arrest. There was a battle that ensued, the likes of which no 10-year-old has ever had with a man of the law. Great shockwaves filled the land. Folks in the next county over just figured it was the Hazzard boys again, blowing up some old used-up stills with their Uncle Jesse. The officer attempted many times over the course of the battle to apprehend and cuff the little girl, but hell, she was wiry. Then, all at once, the drama escalated to its highest and most excruciating point yet — the girl bopped him right in the danglies with her foot. It’s important to note that the police report mentions that the girl “struck me with her legs and feet in the groin. This implies that it was not just one foot, and not just one time that it happened.

The look on Sister's face is appalling, but the pain reflected in Brother's is worse. And this was just ONE kick.

Ladies, let me ask you this: do you have something that you love? Something that you would fight to the death for? Something that you won’t let anyone touch unless they are so very, very careful? Something that you care for, and longingly look after like a loved child? Something that would make your right side go numb and cause you to bend over from sheer pain, forcing you to urinate blood and cry out for mercy to the Lord above every time you used the restroom for the next fortnight, if someone were to kick it “violently”? I will stop there. Yeah, you know.
So the officer administers a “very, very brief drive stun” to the middle of the girl’s back. The alleged offense has occurred. Now, realize something here — this is not the tasing that you’ve seen on Jackass, this is not the little prong-thingies that shoot out and render a man a…well, a 10-year-old girl. This was a “drive stun”. That means he used the device itself, didn’t deploy the taser prongs, and did it only very briefly. We could argue the mechanics of what actually happened at that point, but I’m not a stun gun technician, and neither are you. Asshole.

Did they just tase this guy? OR! Did someone just kick him in the balls? Yeah, can't tell at all, can you?

I’ve already written this off as a classic case of “eye for an eye” (man, I am using quotations way too much here). But people around the nation, including the young girl’s father, are decrying this as an unnecessary act of police brutality on a minor, and a young girl, no less. The young girl’s pretty mug on the screen makes one initially want to cry and rally around her cause, and her father crying on national television doesn’t help much. But when one digs a little deeper, you have to question if this is indeed the proper reaction.
It is also important to note that the girl is fine. After the shock, she immediately stopped her potentially fatal (because why else would you call a cop?) behavior, and the cop carried her to the car and took her to a youth shelter. The report doesn’t detail this, but I’m sure the mother, after the cop and the daughter left, poured herself a nice glass of wine from the box in the ice chest, drew a Suave bubble bath, and sipped herself silly. She was found the next morning with the box of wine actually in the bath tub, the water a strange blue hue, and the water from the toilet completely drained. Which was weird.
Was the cop wrong? I believe you know my thoughts on the issue. Coming from someone who has family serving as law enforcement officers, I’m aware of many different things that could have happened to this young lady that are infinitely worse than a brief drive stun to the back. If I kicked an officer straight to the junk, what do you think he’d do to me? Why should it be any different for a 10-year-old? She knows what she did, she knew what she was doing when she did it. She’s 10. Not 3, like my oldest son, who, yes, I might get a little pissed if a cop tased him. But, you know, a cop can physically overpower him without hurting him — but it gets little more difficult to do with each passing year. By the time he’s 10, heck, my wife and I may have matching stun guns. His and Hers. It’ll be real cute, promise.

Ozark police officer Dustin Bradshaw was suspended yesterday while officials investigate the officer for tasing an 10-year-old girl.Nov. 11.

According to the Arkansas Democrat Gaszette, Ozark mayor Vernon McDaniel said Police Chief Jim Noggle suspended Bradshaw because he did not have the Taser’s video camera attached to the weapon at the time he used it on the girl. Bradshaw was suspended with pay, effective immediately, McDaniel said.

Undoubtedly, it is in society’s interest to provide law enforcement with the necessary tools to protect the public safety. International standards encourage nonlethal or “less lethal” measures to decrease the risk of death or injury from firearms and other impact weapons. Taser devices, once widely touted as a valuable innovation in this regard, are today at the center of much debate.

Since 2001, about 400 people have died — 39 this year — after being Tasered by law enforcement personnel in the U.S. Amnesty International believes it is time to reconsider the use of Tasers. We believe this is even more essential as Taser International has issued new recommendations calling on law enforcement to avoid shocking people in the chest. This is the first time Taser has admitted a potentially serious health risk with the devices, and we believe it underscores our call for a full evaluation of their use.

How far will the government go in aiding parents in disciplining children? Should a parent be tasered for losing control and becoming ineffective in parenting a child?

I am concerned with what using electric force, handcuffs, and a police car do to a girl psychologically simply because she does not want to go to bed. Imagine how the girl will turn out due to this tragic use of force as she grows up.

Children aren’t old enough to have sex or be married because they “cannot think for themselves coherently” but they can feel the rod of discipline and order for making a decision to act in unruly manner. Something is wrong with this?
Shame on you mom and shame on you officer.

Cop Tases 10-Year-Old Girl

Arkansas mother suggested stun gun treatment for unruly daughter

NOVEMBER 18–An Arkansas cop tasered an unruly 10-year-old girl after her mother called police to report that the child was crying, screaming, and refusing to go to bed. The tased girl, Kiara Medlock, is about 65 pounds and 4′ 6″, according to her father. Anthony Medlock, a truck driver who does not live with the fifth grader and her mother, provided TSG with a recent photo of his daughter, which can be seen at right. According to the below Ozark Police Department report, when Officer Dustin Bradshaw arrived at the residence last Thursday, he found the girl “screaming, kicking, and resisting every time her mother tried to touch her.” Bradshaw added that, “Her mother told me to tase her if I needed to.” After Kiara continued to refuse her mother’s instructions, the cop concluded that “there was not going to be a peaceful resolution of the issue.” Bradshaw warned the girl that she was “going to jail,” but the child continued kicking and crying and resisted his attempt to handcuff her. During the tussle, Kiara “struck me with her legs and feet in the groin, reported Bradshaw, who countered with a brief “stun to her back” with his Taser. The child, not surprisingly, “immediately stopped resisting and was placed into handcuffs. She would not walk on her own and I had to carry her to my police car.” Kiara was then transported to a youth shelter. (1 page)

A MAN attempting to harm himself in suburban Sydney has died in hospital after being shot by police.

A LONG-serving police sergeant was equipped with a Taser when she used a gun to shoot a man in suburban Sydney, police say.

The officer, who has 21 years service with NSW Police, shot the 36-year-old man once at a home on Wangee Road in Lakemba about 8.50am (AEDT) this morning.

The man later died in hospital, but Assistant Commissioner Stuart Wilkins could not confirm if his death was the result of the gunshot or self-inflicted injuries suffered during the incident.

Officers had been called to the address after reports that the man was attempting to harm himself.

“The officer, the sergeant, involved was armed with a Taser at the time and is Taser trained,” Mr Wilkins told reporters at the scene

“Upon arrival police found the man attempting self-harm,” police said.

“There was a confrontation between the man and police where the man was subsequently shot by attending officers.”

The man was taken to Canterbury Hospital, where he later died.

If the police are gonna bust DJs, can they at least go after on the ones that play really bad trance

If the police are gonna bust DJs, can they at least go after on the ones that play really bad trance?

First, they came for your fajitas. Now, they want your J. Dilla records.

The SF Weekly just posted a story today about how cops are busting into parties and fundraisers and ganking people’s laptops and sound systems. When I first heard about this, I got really angry. Like how I get when I hear that someone was brutally murdered and it wasn’t Glenn Beck.

It just seemed so ridiculous and unjust that in a city plagued with dozens of unsolved murders every year the cops would focus on busting up little dance parties. Every night, the streets are crawling with junkies breaking into cars, bike thieves and much worse, yet the po-po’s decide to crack down on consenting adults who want to have a few drinks and listen to loud music after the bars close (we’re not talking about epic raves filled with 14-year-old ecstasy fiends and Special K zombies here).

And this type of “enforcement” is obviously highly selective – you know they would never dream of busting into an “unpermitted” late night party in a Pacific Heights mansion and confiscate every laptop in the house.

But then, I saw this story about a cop tazing a 10-year-old girl in Arkansas – and his chief defending it. And then I saw this other story about Detoit cops stealing millions of dollars from innocent people. And then I saw this article in the Guardian about how SF’s new police chief is probably looking to reduce the power of the Office of Citizen Complaints… and I wasn’t so angry anymore. Just hungry…. Hungry for revenge!

Who wants to bust into a cop party with me and steal all their donuts?!

What the flickety is wrong with this fool?! The lil’ town mayor is calling for an investigation.

He better be.

The story is that the officer was called to a home in lil Ozark (?) on a domestic disturbance. When he arrived, the girl was curled up on the floor, screamin’, the girl screamed, kickin’ and resistin’ – “violent and verbally combative”, any time her mother tried to get her in the shower before bed. (They called the po-po for this?? What about whuppin’ her ass, throwin her in the tub, and gettin’ it done?)

When the officer tried to “take her into custody” , (and she kicked him in the groin -that’s the real reason!), he delivered “a very brief drive stun to her back,” the report said.

Arkansas State Police — and if they decline, the FBI — will investigate the incident. That’s what the mayor said.

And the winner goes to the 10 year old girl who kicked a police officer in the balls and got tasered for her troubles. Lets just say her mother wasn’t very helpful, she encouraged the cop to taser her. The Ozark police were called to the girl’s house after her mother rang begging them to have her taken to a youth shelter. When they arrived they found the screaming crying child refusing to budge, so her mom told them to taser her if need be. Allegedly officer Dustin Bradshaw then carried her to the living room where he received a hard kick to the nuts, legs and feet. Hmm, so after a little tasering she was handcuffed, carried to the car and promptly delivered to the Western Arkansas Youth Shelter. Problem solved.

Ozark Police Chief Jim Noggle says one of his officers used a Taser on a 10-year-old girl who was combative when the officer tried to get the girl into a patrol car to be taken to a youth shelter.

Noggle said Tuesday that officer Dustin Bradshaw went to the girl’s home after her mother called police woman called police.

According to a report filed by Bradshaw on Thursday, the officer found the girl on the floor of the house screaming and crying. She refused to follow her mother’s instructions and the mother told Bradshaw to use his Taser.

Bradshaw carried the girl to the living room and told her she was going to jail, according to the report. The girl was violently kicking, the report said, and struck Bradshaw in the groin with her legs and feet. The report said Bradshaw administered a “very, very brief” stun with the Taser, put the girl in handcuffs and carried her to his patrol car. She was taken to the Western Arkansas Youth Shelter in Cecil.
