In my last post, where I gladly bid sayonara to 2009 and prepared to usher in 2010 with much excitement, I wrote of a few resolutions that I planned to keep for the year that would enable me to live a little more happy, well-rounded and stress-free.

This morning, while doing my usual browsing of news sites, blogs and links from twitter, I came across a competition run by the lovely girls over at SheSaid. The comp shed light on a study recently run by AMEX, which found that one in five Australians belong to a new type of people the study has labelled ‘potentialists’ — individuals who aspire to mix traditional career successes with a more well-rounded life filled with the pursuit of new experiences, personal enrichment and the building of new hobbies and skills to make life a little more exciting.

I immediately knew that this is the kind of existence I was mulling about when I wrote about my resolutions and goals for 2010. And I am proud to say I am already on to it. Despite spending my holiday break at home the past couple of weeks, I decided not to shy away from investing some time in little luxuries that would not break the wedding-budget. Here were my top three:

1. Dinner & Dessert in Sydney’s Newtown: Fiance and I were bored. He wanted dinner, I wanted dessert, we both wanted to get out of the house and go on a date. We had limited funds on account of the $50k+ wedding we were having a year later. The solution? A night under $50. First stop was Basil, an Italian restaurant on King St, where we  tucked into a delicious family size pizza of proscuitto, parmesan, mozzarella, mushroom and olive (and it was so huge we didn’t finish it) and a great rocket and parmesan salad (with walnuts and pears). Delicious meal, complete with a 10% discount because we were students. And because no meal is ever complete without dessert, we walked a few shops over to Max Brenner, and indulged in hot chocolates and an amazing souffle with ice-cream. And yes, all under $50. Enjoyment on the cheap, and a fabulous night at that. So far, so good.

2. Luxurious afternoon at home: After a few days lazing about at home and not feeling particularly jazzy, I needed a pick-me-up. Considering I had just spent my Christmas money on a Christmas tree for 2010 (because obviously I’ll be moving out when I am married and I will most definitely need a tree…perferably one I can get for 50% off even if it means keeping it in storage for 11 months) I couldn’t indulge in anything too pricey. My solution? The latest edition of UK Tatler (and a special edition at that) for $11.95, a copy of Daily Candy (which I had recently purchased from eBay for $8, and which I loved and was re-reading), and a glass of Trilogy Sparkling Rose ($12). Combined with Friends & Sex and the City repeats on Foxtel, as well as a plate of cheese, fig crackers, quince paste and cherries,(and thanks to my future mother in law, a santa sack of yummy Darrell Lea chocolates) it was a perfect afternoon. Luxury needn’t be pricey, for me, it was all in the finer details (like serving in crystal glassware), cheap things that scream fabulous (pink chapmagne always does the trick), and the things that I love and calm myself to.

3. Move night with the girls: Had read The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold and needed to see Peter Jackson’s interpretation of it. Was not disappointed. Drove to a faraway cinema where nobody knew us, purchased cheap, packaged and less-buttered popcorn from Woolies and a lemon ice-tea, and my movie ticket ($14 because, again, I am a student) and zoned out for a couple of hours with a great film and great company.

Little moments of bliss with little havoc on the wallet. Luxury catered especially to my reality, and not lost on me at all. And all without compromising my promises for the new year. So far, so good.

Today would have been Isabella Blow’s fifty-first birthday. The fashion icon and former magazine editor made famous by her habit of wearing intensely robust hats, and known for discovering Alexander McQueen, Philip Treacy, Hussein Chalayan, and models Sophie Dahl and Stella Tennant, is this week’s modus operandi. Two biographies on Blow are to be published in 2010. Blow by Blow: The Story of Isabella Blow, is co-written by Detmar Blow, Isabella’s husband of 18 years, and fashion writer, Plum Sykes’ brother, Tom Sykes, who met Isabella at 20 when Plum was her assistant at Vogue. The other is written by Lauren Goldstein Crowe, author of The Towering World of Jimmy Choo, and former Portfolio.com fashion blogger.

Over time, the 007 series girls dropped their clothes in hope that their popularity will reach never before seen heights. Eva Green doesn’t make an exception.

The 29-year-old actress chose Eve costume for the December issue of Tatler magazine. She recreated a 1973 photograph of another cinema beauty, Charlotte Rampling, and has shown us why has she been part of the Bond list.

Eva is not at her first nude appearance. She also give up her clothes in Bernardo Bertolucci’s film “The Dreamers” in 2003.

Johann Hari has won me over with this argument about celebrity:

“We will always have celebrities, and we will – if we are honest – always want them. If we rage against them Starsuckers-style, with an annihilating, snobbish superiority, we will lose the argument. The real struggle instead is to temper our instinct for fame – and stop it sucking up all the cultural oxygen.”

Consequently, I was probably wrong to argue that Tatler must be stormed for socialism. So, while I know it isn’t mutual, I forgive Tatler.

Ms. Shulman may be the more underrated of the three on an international level, but I can attest by personal experience that she’s one of the best, and most fierce Fashion Journalists in existence.

Initially wanting to work for a record label but learning quickly she wasn’t cut of for the job, in 1982 she got her break as a Staff Writer for society magazine Tatler. She then moved on to the Sunday Telegraph (also home to Fashion Journalist Hilary Alexander 1987. During the `90s, she was the Editor for men’s magazine GQ then on to her appointment as Editor of British Vogue 1992 and the magazine has flourished ever since.

Even though her regular column in the Daily Mail has been dropped, you can still get access to her exuberant articles in its archive.

El  pasado11 de octubre el establecimiento Louis Vuitton de New Bond Street terminó de decorar el display que la firma había planteado para celebrar el 300 aniversario de la revista TATLER, y ahí estuve yo para retratar las primeras imágenes de este escaparate recién hecho.

Hoy 27 de octubre ha llegado el día de despedirnos de él y dar paso a uno nuevo. Y ahí he estado yo para filmar sus últimos minutos:

Joseph también felicita los 300 años de la publicación inglesa TATLER, pero de un modo más fresco y juvenil o menos suntuoso y ceremonioso que las propuestas de Louis Vuitton, Missoni o Versace en sus respectivos flagships.

Para cubrir las traseras del escaparate se ha diseñado un mural compuesto por (como mínimo) unas 150 portadas de la edición de agosto 2009, con Eva Herzigova como protagonista vistiendo un jersey marinero.

En el centro, un maniquí sin rostro ataviado con la misma prenda que la modelo sostiene tres ejemplares de la edición.

Having put aside some me time. Sat back and nestled between the comfort of some fluffy cushions I opened the Tatler 2009 Spa Guide, to take me away into another world of dreams, to find some magical place to tantalize and draw me towards…

I found myself  thrilled to find listed amongst the best spa’s in the world according to Tatler, Zambia’s Royal Zambezi Lodge. Wow this is a serious list! One you pay attention to, where you know you will find only the most amazing, luxurious places around the world to visit to get pampered and enjoy stunning surroundings in exclusive locations receiving seamless service and not forgetting delectable food.

So what did Tatler have to say about Royal Zambezi Lodge?

Tatler 2009 Spa Guide: “You only have to look at the rugged men in muddy shoes to figure out that this is no ordinary spa hotel, but it’s the only place in the wilds of Zambia that vaguely resembles one – hence its allure. Otro escaparate que está vistiendo las mejores galas para felicitar a la revista TATLER en su 300 aniversario es Versace. Recordad que Louis Vuitton y Missoni ya le han presentado sus respectivos homenajes. Para la ocasión, la firma ha elegido como atrezo la portada de mayo 2009, con Elle Mcpherson como protagonista, y únicamente un maniquí vistiendo un prenda de noche plateada con acabado metálico de la Colección Otoño-Invierno 09-10:

Versace ha buscado el contraste entre el plateado y el dorado en texturas metálicas. Recordad que Louis Vuitton apostó por mezclar el oro y el rojo:

¿Cómo hubiese quedado el siguiente display?

Parece que Versace se reserva este vestido en bronce para Navidades o que busca el contraste Oro-Plata para felicitar a TATLER.

When you disappear from the public eye, you’ll do anything to get another headlines. And what’s more suited, if not to forget home your underwear or bra? Apparently this was also on Tara Palmer Tomkinson’s mind.
Taking advantage of the 30 anniversary of “Tatler” magazine, the television star opted for a transparent dress which let anyone see a pair of playful breasts.

And as the outfit was specifically chosen to capture attention, a pert breast wanted to help his mistress.
And the aim was achieved. Home page provided.

Recién salido del horno, como el pan recién hecho viene el escaparate de Vuitton. He estado espiando a los visual merchandisers mientras lo preparaban y cuando han terminado click! la foto de Gifitting. Y ha sido hoy mismo, al final del día.

Para celebrar el 300 aniversario de la revista TATLER, la firma ha retado un homenaje a la publicación costumizando su minimalista escaparate con una mezcla muy navideña (diría yo): el oro y el rojo.

Las traseras y laterales del window display están cubiertas por espejos que sostienen 300 velitas de cumpleaños de color dorado. Tanto el vestido presentado como el maniquí son encarnados.

Y, no podía faltar, una declaración de intenciones de Louis Vuitton:

Tatler has been around for over three centuries in publishing and remains a leader in gossip, fashion, and royalty in the UK. Bringing the celebration full circle, the new Tatler features Queen Elizabeth II on the cover – her official profile portrait. This recent issue is known to be Tatler’s biggest. It contains 408 pages, 224-and-a-half which are ads by international favorites: Gucci, Versace, Paul Smith, Manolo Blahnik, Tiffany, Van Cleef &Arpels, and Jimmy Choo.

In the upcoming issue, EIC Ostler has attempted to marry the charm of the old days with the vim of contemporary Britain, according to today’s wwd.com.

Stories include how Princess Diana saved Tatler, penned by former editor Tina Brown, and features on the Guinness family, Annabel Goldsmith and London’s mayor, Boris Johnson. There’s a shoot featuring the British meritocracy, including Sam Taylor-Wood, Tamara Mellon, Vivien Duffield and Vera Lynn, another featuring 12 English dukes, shot at the 18th-century St. James’s institution Wiltons, and another still showcasing past “It” girls Tamara Beckwith and Victoria Hervey.  

It’s no surprise that Tatler is royalty in the UK publishing world.

Diane Kruger, the girl whose side profile is so perfect in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds film, has taken both Hollywood and The  UK by storm.

Here’s her high-brow Tatler cover. She’s this generation’s Sharon Stone. An  incredible actress with smarts, beauty and style. It’s her time! Bring it on, I say.

Vauxhall Fashion Scout is a fashion event for emerging young designers. The programme provides designers the catwalk, and covers all the costs of the show, including a press package, hair and make-up teams. This happens every season during London Fashion Week.

David Koma won last season’s fashion scout, winning the prize to have a standalone show during the up coming season of the official event of LFW in September.

Designers who have reached success after being part of Vauxhall Fashion Scout includes Felder and Felder and William Tempest. Tempest had his AW09 collection exclusively bought by cool luxury shop Browns after which the press fell in love with him since Emma Watson chose to wear one of his designs to the premiere of Desperaux.

Marko Mitanovski, Ada Zanditon, Dean Quinn, Hermione de Paula are the new chosen ones of VFS and will be fighting for the prize. They all come with an impressive CV and collections. They have all worked with established names like Gareth Pugh, Alexander McQueen, Jonathan Saunders and John Galliano. These are the guys to watched out for.

Save these names, as it is likely you will see their designs around the best magazines very soon. William is already everywhere. Vogue UK, Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue.co.uk, Tatler, Vogue.com, Elle and the latest September issue of Vogue Brazil coming out soon.

London has always been known as the place to pick up new talent and VFS is the perfect place to start.

Købte Tatler (august 2009) på grund af den fantastiske forside. Saylor looket holder sommer efter sommer. Jeg må i min fars gemmer og finde den sømandsstrik min farmor i sin tid strikkede til ham.

Billederne er taget af Marc Hom og stylet af Anna Bromilow. Modellen hedder Eva Herzigova og hende bør man vist kende, for bladet indeholder en længere artikel om hende. Men jeg er ikke sikker på at jeg kan placere hende. Hun havde åbenbart gennembruds kampange for Gossard’s Wonderbra i 1994. Kender i hende?
