Una de las curiosidades sobre la cultura africana es su idea de la belleza, el arte corporal. Uno de los elementos es la escarificación y tatuajes. Por ejemplo los mbororo, en el norte de Camerún.

Las escarificaciones faciales y corporales que encontramos en África no se limitan sólo a cortes, sino que al utilizar a continuación cenizas vegetales el diseño queda en relieve. A veces también pueden introducirse pigmentos u otras materias irritantes en las heridas para remarcarlas. Podríamos clasificarlas en cuatro grupos:

 - Marcas tribales, como diferenciación entre etnias. Se ejecutan con frecuencia en los ritos de pubertad, y en ocasiones determinan la pertinencia a un clan, una clase social determinada, o a ciertas sociedades secretas masculinas.

- Cicatrices masculinas, prueba de valor y virilidad, al tiempo que hace a los portadores más ‘sexis’ y excitantes para las mujeres. Un joven no será reconocido como un verdadero guerrero si no se muestra un gran número de ‘marcas de valor’, lo que antiguamente eran las ‘heridas de guerra’. 

- Las escarificaciones femeninas, consideradas como un elemento de belleza y con una finalidad erótica. Aquí, la variedad de gustos es infinita: hay etnias a las que les fascinan los cortes en las nalgas de las mujeres, para otros el máximo interés se provoca cuando los diseños geométricos convergen en los órganos sexuales. Hay chicas de ciertas etnias que son marcadas con más de 12 tipos de escarificaciones diferentes, cada una con un particular significado sexual.

- Para evitar los “malos espíritus” (enfermedades). Las realizan los curanderos del pueblo, marcando los contornos de los orificios del cuerpo, como la boca, el ombligo o los órganos sexuales.

 Casi todas la etnias de Camerún han practicado o practican algún tipo de escarificación corporal. Los mbororo, quizás por su condición de nómadas y al estar poco influidos por las corrientes ‘modernizadoras’, han seguido practicando la escarificación hasta el presente. En otros pueblos sólo se puede apreciar este tipo de ‘arte corporal’ en los individuos de más edad.

 En el siguiente video se pueden ver algunas fotos de este grupo étnico. Los mbororo, un grupo nómada, que sigue conservando su forma de vida ancestral, suelen pasar horas cuidando su aspecto físico, trenzándose el pelo y decorándoselo y tatuándose la cara y el pecho.

Ecuatoriano prometió 151 tatuajes Pokemon en la espalda si conseguía un millón de seguidores en la red social. A los pocos días, cerró la cuenta.

Si José Eduardo Romero, un ecuatoriano menor de edad, quería ser popular, lo logró. En apenas seis días hizo que casi medio millón de personas se unieran al grupo de Facebook  “Si se meten 1.000.000, yo José Romero me tatúo los 151 Pokemon en la espalda”. El éxito fue total y llegar a la meta era cuestión de días.

Pero a Romero lo intimidó la popularidad o, tal vez, la posibilidad cierta de ver su espalda invadida de figuras pokemonas. Así que reculó y su página en Facebook desapareció. “Aunque al principio se convirtió en un héroe para nosotros, ahora todo el instituto se ríe de él”, dijo a La Vanguardia Gustavo, un amigo de José.

Más famoso que en un principio, José no tiene muchas razones para reírse. En Facebook aparecieron varios grupos que lo amenazan incluso con ir a buscarlo a Ecuador para que cumpla su palabra. “Porque todos merecemos ver los tatuajes, perdimos tiempo y queremos la respuesta”, se argumenta en uno de esos grupos de la red.

“José está viviendo una pesadilla y no quiere ni salir de casa”, dijo Gustavo.

Ok, despues de la euforia que causara Lady Gaga con su nuevo video es justo decir que en el no solo vimos una gran direccion, moda, luces o modelos, tambien sirvio para ver cumplirle sus fantasias a Tranny Gaga, no tengo nada en contra de ella, pero no podemos negar que en dicho video se ve mejor que en la vida real, cirugia o una edicion (con ayuda del photoshop y otros trucos) me dan la razon, tanto la arreglaron digitalmente que en una de las escenas parace Amy Winehouse, y eso no nada agradable, ustedes tienen la ultima opinion.

As I continue to delve into the world of Tatuaje Cigars, made by Pete Johnson, tonight’s review will be on the Ambos Mundos Sumatra Robusto.  From the Tatuaje website, Ambos Mundos is translated to mean “both worlds” as in “The Best of Both Worlds”.  This cigar was touted as an entry into the bargain cigar market by Pete Johnson and comes with a price tag in the $5 – $6 range depending on your local taxes.  None of my local B&Ms are authorized Tatuaje dealers so I made this purchase at Leesburg Cigars.

Vital Stats:
Vitola – Robusto
Size – 5 x 50
Wrapper – Ecuadorian Sumatra
Binder – Nicaragua
Filler – Nicaragua

Construction:  The wrapper is a slightly mottled cocoa-brown with a couple of pronounced veins & many smaller veins running throughout the leaf.  The cap is the Tatuaje signature Cuban triple cap.  The cigar is firm to the touch; however, I do not anticipate any issues with the draw.

Pre-light:  Aroma is a rich barnyard tobacco odor that gets your attention right away.  Cold draw is not too tight or loose and produces no real spice or pepper but the same rich tobacco flavor as the aroma.

First impressions:  First few puffs are somewhat peppery on the middle of my tongue and on the retrohale.  I am also getting a hint of cinnamon type spice on the retrohale.  The cigar is producing a fair amount of smoke but very little residual or resting smoke.  Further in, the peppery spice has calmed and the cinnamon has turned into more of a licorice flavor that is very nice with the tobacco undertones.  The strength is mild, while the flavor is squarely into the medium range.  The ash is holding strong for the first inch with a light gray color.  The burn line is decent with no need for a touch up.  

Halfway point:  The cigar is rather woody at this point with a cedary sweetness on the retrohale.  The licorice is still present, but it has taken a backseat to the cedar flavor.  The cigar is much smoother while the flavor has definitely picked up  The strength has remained relatively mild.  The ash let go after about two inches.  The spice and sweetness on the retrohale is really enjoyable and the cigar is producing an ample amount of smoke.  I’m really surprised at the mildness in strength with this flavor intensity.  The resting smoke is also very aromatic with that same sweet yet toasty cedar characteristic.  It gives a slight tinge to the nostrils.

Home stretch:  The licorice flavor is now coming back to the forefront.  The burn is a little wavy, but I see no real need for a touch up.  After removing the band the flavor is somewhat meaty & the sweetness has mellowed.

Final thoughts:  I really love the complexity of this cigar and the way the flavors heighten & mellow throughout.  For the price point, this an excellent cigar when you’re looking for good flavor with less power.  I have been searching for the perfect “lawnmower” smoke and I think this is it.  With a burn time of a little over an hour, this would be great for the golf course if you want to know that you have a cigar without having it shake you to death while standing over a 6 ft putt.

Verdict:

4 out of 5 smokes

Si quieres hacerte un tatuaje pero todavía no te atreves… aquí tienes una solución temporal

Stemming from the famed Tatuaje La Seleccion de Cazador, or Cabinet Selection, comes the delicious Unicos. A full-bodied 6 1/8 x 52 Corojo wrapped Nicraguan vitolas. Rolled in Miami, FL by master rollers, this rich leathery cigar is sure to please.

Rather handsome in appearance, the Unicos displays a tapestry of veins throughout the wrapper, while standing confident in all it’s pre-light glory. A distinct aroma of woody-leather greats your nose, and invites you to clip and light.

Generally I don’t prefer the torpedo style vitolas, but it seemed fitting for this particular cigar. The draw was wide enough to make for an enjoyable smoking experience (however, I tend to be a wet smoker and eventually the head became somewhat gummed up).  This did cause the flavor profile to move from a slightly sweet hazelnut flavor to more of an earthly, woody flavor from the mid-point to the end.

I’ve come to really enjoy the first draw of this cigar, as you taste buds are met with a barrage of white pepper spice, that lingers long in the back of your throat. Be forewarned, the Unicos puts forth a huge amount of heavy white smoke that likes to hang low in the air. Also, a distinct element of this quality cigar is its tight grey ash. Producing a relatively even burn; it does well to correct itself easily enough.

While this wasn’t my first ever go around with the Tatuaje Unicos, I was reminded by the end of the subtle punch it likes to pack. A slight buzz at the end not withstanding, I would enjoy this cigar time and time again. My advice however, be sure to eat a hearty meal ahead of time, and you should be just fine.

Me duele un poquillo la espalda, pero básicamente es porque me ha dado la gana y encima he pagado por ello. Desde ayer por la noche, hace ahora mismo justo 24 horas, tengo una nueva inscripción grabada en mi piel. No es la primera que hay, y seguramente no será la última, aunque como siempre cada vez que me he sentado delante o debajo de esa máquina con su sonido permanente, llegué a pensar “quién coño me mandará a mi hacerme éstas cosas”. Pero luego todo se olvida y con el tiempo entra el gusanillo de ¿por que no otro?

Desde hace cinco años, el tema del próximo tatuaje estaba claro… La inscripción no concretada, pero el tema clarísimo. Pero han tenido que pasar esos años para que la promesa que hice se cumpliera. Mas que nada porque desde entonces, siempre encuentas cualquier otra cosa que hacer con los ahorrillos que un nuevo adorno en tu cuerpo.

Gracias a mi teléfono rojo, he podido llegar a materializar dicha promesa. Una deuda sin cobrar que fué pagada, permitió que guardara el dinero con recelo para llegado el momento oportuno poder coger hora y realizar mi tatu. Y así fué. Desde ayer, camisetas manchadas con pomada y restos de sangre. Y pequeño escozor en mi espalda, pero contento de tenerlo ya conmigo. El dolor merece la pena al verlo… Pero aquí no lo enseñaré. Los curiosos, que me pregunten que yo lo enseño sin ningún pudor. Eso sí, en persona. Y el significado, el título lo dice aunque el por qué queda para mí y mucha gente que me conoce.

Ahora por las noches duermo más acompañado.

Aja… los más sabiondos en esto de los videojuegos dirán “Ey César que no se escribe así…” o “Pensé que sabías algo de videojuegos, mira que errar en esto de Street Fighter…”  Ok, los comprendo, pero, si no se escribe así… la secuencia que viene a continuación tampoco es muy precisa que digamos… lol x 10!!!

Esperemos que sea de henna y no permanente XD

¿Como ven a este amigo? -EPIC FAIL!!!- … solo espero que pronto se de cuenta de ello y que se corte el brazo o que pida ayuda al puro estilo de T-bag de la serie Prison Break… Jejeje.

Por cierto … si se como se escribe Shoryuken y claro que se hacer el movimiento, de hecho me lo enseño un lindo gatito hace un tiempo XD

Age: Centuries, but pulled right outta the coffin!

The most sought out cigar for the Halloween season has risen from it’s coffin and come to terrorize the neighborhood!  The Drac, the second in the Tatuaje Monster Series, is a dangerous looking torpedo with an upside down band at the foot – which when flipped over to read the band, the cigar looks like a fang!

As I mentioned this is another limited cigar, with a few more available than last year’s Frank.  There are 1300 coffin’s available of 13 cigars each.  But these are really hard to find.

As I hold this cigar, I get an ominous feeling that this cigar is going to have a lot of bite!

Its dark Habano wrapper is very nice looking and smooth to the touch, not much tooth on the wrapper.

As I light the cigar, I expect to get a kick of Pepin pepper and spice, but I get a smooth earthiness mixed with leather and tobacco notes.

There is a bit of white pepper in the exhale, but this is definitely smoother than I thought it was going to be.

As I smoke further I begin to get an idea of what this blend is all about.  Like the vampire, it lures you in to its lair, and then “Bam!”  The flavors really begin to pick up.  A little more spiciness, some cayenne mixed with cinnamon, with a nice cocoa aftertaste on the finish.

What is especially strong is the aroma, very peppery and meaty, the burn is almost dead even, and I only need to touch it up once to get to the finally few inches.

The last third comes not out of Transylvania, but Hershey, PA.  Milk and dark chocolate fleet in and out as the intensity of the flavors build to a diabolical crescendo.

I liked this cigar, but compared to the Boris, it still fell short for me.  There was really nothing specific to complain about, just a preference to the Boris over the Drac.  That said, the Drac was still  a very good cigar overall.

This is a pretty popular cigar right now, it’s also pretty hard to find.  This is the first of the Monster “Out-of-Costume” Series from marketing mastermind Pete Johnson of Tatuaje cigars (Havana Cellars).  The “Out-of-Costume”  (OOC) series concept is to take the last year’s Monster Series cigar, put it in new packaging, sans coffin-shaped box, a name it as the actor who famously played the Monster.  So, since last year’s Monster was The Frank (after Frankenstein’s Monster), the first OOC will be called Boris – after Boris Karloff.  The Boris cigar is slightly shorter than The Frank, and has a different wrapper.  The Frank had a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper; the Boris has an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper.  Of course these are super-duper limited; only 1000 boxes of 10 were made.

As an aside, I’d like to point out what my local owner did with the Monster Series this year.  Instead of selling boxes of Boris and Dracs to whom ever showed up first,  he broke them up into little samplers, giving many more people an opportunity to try a cool limited cigar.  Nice job, Hal!

So due to their limited availability, I could have squirreled it away only to peak at it and giggle with glee, but instead I just smoked it.  It is a cigar after all (plus I have a few more).

This was a very dark cigar; I was hard pressed to find any Rosado like shade to it at all.  The wrapper was a little “rustic”, good rich color and tooth, but fairly veiny.  The cigar gave a little in the middle, which found me hoping it wasn’t under filled and/or would tunnel on me.

The Boris took a light easy and delivered ample smoke in the first few puffs.  The burn was nice and slow, so I was able to sit back and enjoy the flavors.

One thing that struck me at first was that there was no Pepin “bite” to the cigar.  Most cigars wunderkind Don Pepin Garcia blends have a distinct bite to them.  It’s almost like that feeling you get in your mouth when you bite into a tart Granny Smith apple.  I’m not a fan at all of this, so it was a pleasant surprise to find it absent.

The first third was full bodied but not overpowering, rich with black coffee, leather, white pepper and a bit of almond on the finish.
Midway though, my fears were realized when the cigar began to tunnel on me.  The middle was clearly under filled, so much that I could almost squeeze the cigar completely together.  But I labored on and it corrected itself after an inch and a half.

The second half of the cigar was exceptional.  After the tunneling was over, the burn corrected itself and the cigar mellowed a bit in oomph but ramped up in flavor.  Tons of bittersweet cocoa, espresso and leather exploded across my palate at every puff.  The aroma was earthy and meaty, and the finish was very long with licorice abound.

I smoked this one to the nub, savoring every puff.  What a great tasting cigar!

So the construction had issues, but the flavor made up for it.  This was a better cigar than The Frank by a mile.  So if you were lucky enough to get a Boris – find a nice cozy chair on Halloween and smoke it!
