Tay is on fire with “You You You”. We are seeing more and more of side “H” for hot! This masterpiece of near musical perfection is like a gift so near the holidays. The song starts in signature Tay Zonday style then transitions to a faster, deeper, sometimes echoing musing on love, want, desire, and longing. Barry White is gone but if Tay wished he could have overwhelmed us with a firestorm of guttural growls. Instead, he purposely emits a warm steady fire that slowly touches without burning.

The background for the video set the right tone for it’s fast pace. Hearing the song first you expect a scene similar to “Cherry Chocolate Rain”. Instead, we are left with imagery harkening to an outdoor concert. Not closed off at all but visuals full of freedom and expression.

Tay Zonday has just released “Baby I’m Not” right on the heels of “Roll Your Dice”. In “Baby I’m Not” Tay has made great use of not only his musical skills but also that great voice. I like his videos best when it’s just Tay and his keyboard. I must say that this song has it all.  He’s singing about the universal language in a very classy way. Fantastic! Tay, you really rock!

Tay’s song/video, “Roll Your Dice” is out after a long wait. For straight up Tay Zonday fans, this song is like water to a thirsty person. Some may not agree with the very distinctive use of auto tune or with the skit format to tell the story but Tay has always done a version of that  in his videos just not as prominent. For today’s visual medium some diversity and new faces are necessary. It also shows the strength of the collaborative effort.

The song’s opening has a beat that commands your body to keep moving if it wants to keep pace with the story being told. The narrative takes place in the entertainment mecca of Los Angeles. It is the ritual of dreamers who leave it all behind and move to LA.

That you can gamble away

You better get out of Vegas

And head to LA”

After many closed doors and money getting tight, one may have to do things to survive.

He expresses in detail the gods and idols of Hollywood and of being built up and torn down. He perfectly illustrates this with almost sacrificial imagery.

The trials and tribulations of pursuing a dream is well expressed to music. This song speaks truth without sadness for at the end, Tay sings a message of hope.

Baimurat Allaberiyev – a YouTube sensation – has a major record deal but still has few teeth, literally. And those teeth are planted on the cutting edge of the latest boom-and-bust trend in the music industry: viral-video microfame.

So, let’s get real about the sobering statistics of enduring Web 2.0 success among music artists. To that end, I will explore the verities of the viral-video trend.

But first, this exploration is not meant as a discouragement. It’s simply a reality check. Like a sound check, it gets us in tune, so we can perform at our best. And, as with the old industry, the new music model presents real, if limited, opportunities for enduring success. So, as in the past, the motivation for the serious artist is the very challenge of the overwhelming game itself.

Now, back to Allaberiyev, a former sheepherder from Russia who sang renditions of Bollywood songs all the day long, not unlike early American blues singers who chanted field hollers while picking cotton in the South. Some traditions never die.

Writing in Friday’s New York Times, Ellen Barry, tells how one of Allaberiyev’s signature performances was captured on videophone, eventually making it to YouTube and viral nirvana. But, while this music 2.0 fame led to a record deal with Peter Gabriel’s Real World Records in London, his manager Ilya Bortnyuk offers the sober summation:

“If there will be disappointment, it’s no big deal. It’s show business. There is glamour; there is disappointment. No big deal. I’m used to it after 20 years.”

Barry goes on to cite examples of viral video flameouts like Tay Zonday and Chris Crocker. She quotes Bill Wasik, author of a new book on viral video and Internet celebrity:

“Virtually all of them have found it hard to parlay the experience into a lasting career… Even a short ride is a kind of gift.”

Allaberiyev’s challenge: his charisma must translate into U.S. sales, since world music doesn’t sell in Russia, the environs of his initial following. Because Bollywood show tunes won’t do the trick, his handlers plan on transitioning his repertoire to Afghan and Central Asian folk songs. So, does the man on what feels like the top now find himself with another uphill climb? Certainly. Does he feel like Sisyphus? Yes. Haven’t we all? Yet, that should serve to raise the fighter mojo in him even more. Let’s face it; only heavyweights will win at this game. It’s the same in the new model as it was in the old. Some traditions never die.

And to rally Allaberiyev (also known as Tajik Jimmy), one of his supporters, Yelena Mirzoyeva, has this encouragement:

“A person that feels he is a star; that person will really go somewhere.”

Wasik himself recently penned a New York Times Op-Ed piece making a case for the Internet as the new New York for aspiring artists. He compares making it in Gotham with getting “the big break” on the Internet. The article weighs in with sobering data, which in the end, appear no better than the old music-biz model.

A senior editor at Harper’s and author of “And Then There’s This: How Stories Live and Die in Viral Culture,” Wasik discusses the recently depressed prospects for artists seeking fortune in the Big Apple, and turns his gaze to the Internet, saying:

“Meanwhile, another destination beckons, a place that courses with all the raw ambition and creative energy that the hard times seem to have drained from New York. I am referring, of course, to the Internet, which over the past decade has slowly become the de facto heart of American culture: the public space in which our most influential conversations transpire, in which our new celebrities are discovered and touted, in which fans are won and careers made.”

He cites such Web successes as the The Gregory Brothers, whose humorous YouTube series “Auto-Tune the News” has drawn hundreds of thousands of fans.

But, in the end, Wasik also concludes:

“Microcelebrity is now the rule, with respect not only to the size of one’s fan base but also to the duration of its love. Believe it or not, the Internet is a tougher town than New York; fewer people make it here (New York), but no one there (the Internet) seems to make it for long.”

As I follow the limited cases of significant Internet success, Bon Iver comes to the fore. Yet, keep in mind that his notoriety was spawned from a combination of both viral and print-media attention, including the Wall Street Journal, with one rolling into the other. Some traditions – in this case, PR-wise – never die.

So what statistical sobriety supplies us artists is the tired-but-true principle: the path to success is fraught with frustration and limitation. Same in the new model as it was in the old. So, buckle up, batton down and stay the course. The meek may inherit the earth, but they won’t star in the movie version.

To kick things off here on OMG!AB!, here is an introduction to the Internet for n00bs and nostalgics. It is a simple webpage entitled “GREG RUTTER’S DEFINITIVE LIST OF THE 99 THINGS YOU SHOULD HAVE ALREADY EXPERIENCED ON THE INTERNET UNLESS YOU’RE A LOSER OR OLD OR SOMETHING,” available at youshouldhaveseenthis.com. I don’t expect anybody to go through this list in one sitting. Frankly, I recommend against that. Speaking from experience, stuff like this is great to break out  when you’re with friends and there’s nothing to do. YouTube videos tend to make for fun conversation, and there are plenty of those here.

Have been having fun with Shirt.Woot — a new t-shirt for $10 posted each night at 12:01 a.m. They have a Derby every week with new designs — this week’s theme was Tatoo (finalists); it’s a fun and relaxing way to get a look at (and vote for) some cool art. @apelad tipped me to it and his was the Monday shirt.

The Cabonauts starting following me — new web series — and I got to thinking that I might want to find out more about what’s out there. And then The Web Files starting following me, I caught their trailer, I’m a sucker for a good hat and a trenchcoat, I followed back, watched their first interview with Tay Zonday, liked the questions and thought this is a good way to get to know what’s out there…They’re up to 3 episodes so far — Safety Geeks SVI looks like a fun and funny show.

A flash of enthusiasm/inspiration visited and I decided it might be fun to put host Kristyn Burtt in a Blink Kitty Love episode and we exchanged a few e-mails. They are hoping to cover animation at some point, they’re just not sure how. I don’t think Blink Kitty Love is ready for the big time yet, but I am mulling over how to increase your favorite crazy crushing band’s fan base (as well as redesign their website) and it was nice to be taken seriously. So best of luck to The Web Files…I’m looking forward to picking up some tips from your future episodes. And maybe Ms. Burtt and Tammy can go out in their hats + trenchcoats for cupcakes and coffee (yes, in the next episode, Tammy puts on the hat + trenchcoat disguise to find out more about Ty’s girlfriend –TY HAS A GIRLFRIEND??????? Miss The Big Bang Theory, haven’t really had a chance to watch Eureka — although S.A.R.A.H. is tweeting about TIRDS?, still looking forward to the Wizards movie but can’t catch the first half of the vampire saga as we have SHOWS (very exciting; see articles above), haven’t see the newest Harry Potter yet, annoyed that (500) Days of Summer isn’t in town, a little excited about G.I. Joe, and tired. Don’t forget to pick up your Middleman DVDs next week and take care! I’ll miss you, but SHOWS! Taming of The Shrew rocks a park maybe not near you, but you’ll hear the laughter.

Como sabreis el steet fighter sale a la luz en el año 1991, y se convertirira en una de las recreativas con mas exito de la historia que cambiaría por completo el panorama de los juegos de lucha.

Cuatro años antes sacaron ‘Street Fighter’, como es lógico (no le iban a poner un dos a la secuela sin motivo…). Pues bien, aquel juego de lucha pasó un tanto desapercibido en su día a pesar de ser la primera recreativa en la historia en ofrecer seis botones para los golpes y el uso de semi-círculos para los especiales. Unos especiales que en su día resultaban casi imposibles de hacer y que hoy día tenemos todos memorizados.

La pregunta es: ¿qué habría pasado si, en vez de salir el ‘SFII’ en 1991 lo hubiese hecho 10 años antes? Pues que nos encontraríamos en un juego para la Atari 2600, por ejemplo. Pixelacos exagerados, con un control más limitado debido a la insuficiencia de botones, y más tosco.

Por suerte, no hay que imaginárselo, ya que Dylan Hayes ha creado su particular versión sobre cómo sería el citado videojuego por aquel entonces:

Penyanyinya, Tay Zonday seketika langsung terkenal, dan diundang dimana2. Pernah menyanyikan lagu itu di acara Jimmy Kimmel (yg punya Indovision pasti tau), Radio BBC, Lily Allen. Video klip ini jg ditampilkan di videoklip terbarunya Weezer (judulnya Pork and Beans).

YouTube has become one of the most popular video sharing networks online today. It would be rare to find someone who has not heard of the site, or even watched an uploaded video.

YouTube would be a great place to post a promotional video for your corporation, product information, demos, tutorials, how-tos, and anything else that will attract an audience to look at your site.

To post a perfect online promotional video, you should consider using:

• a title screen with a URL
• an exciting, eye-catching title
• call to action with a URL
• a static thumbnail of the image for others to recognize
• consider using a watermark
• several keywords and tags to help visitors find your video

A few years ago, Dr. Pepper posted a very famous video on YouTube, titled “Cherry Chocolate Rain.” Tay Zonday, a viral web sensation who became famous with the song “Chocolate Rain,” parodied the song for the corporation. Audiences were singing the song without even knowing it was promoting the new cherry Dr. Pepper beverage.

Last week, employees at a Dominos posted an online video about the disgusting things they do while making food for customers. Although they stated this video was only a hoax, these employees are now in huge trouble for their actions.
