Any of you who have been around here for a while know that I spent several years writing romantic suspense. When I came back to writing seriously after grad school, it was a romantic suspense that I’d been toying with for years that I set about finishing. Shortly after that is when I started developing that notion for branding myself with Murder and Magnolias–Mississippi based romantic suspense. Nobody else does it, so it seemed like a brilliant little niche I could create for myself. And I still feel that way. I spent 2 or 3 years working on that project, creating spin offs, developing my fictional Mississippi towns and their inhabitents. I was working solidly on a Mississippi based ghost story/romantic suspense when this time last year I was beaten over the head with the idea for Hunted in Shadow. Because I’d been struggling with Til Death not having a really solid plot (solid characters, solid setting, solid voice, but missing something in the plot department) for a while, and because I was really kind of tired of RS and needed a change of pace, I decided to run with HiS. And that’s what I’ve been working on all this year. And of course I’ve envisioned a series here, and created a world that I could, in theory, build a career off of. I redesigned my blog (again), started working on branding/platform, have been working on a novella I plan to give away as a freebie to build readership.

And then as I was strolling through the crowded aisles of Kroger on Friday night, protecting my 13+ pound turkey from the masses and quietly celebrating the fact that I really did find panko breadcrumbs (clearly it doesn’t take a lot to make me happy), Wyatt (hero from Til Death) decided to pop up and say hello. So I came home and reread the last draft of what I had left off with–91 pages of pretty damn awesome if I do say so myself. I really loved that story. I love those characters. And I love my voice with that book. It’s romantic suspense but with a light, comic touch that I am apparently pretty good at.

That light comic thing really frustrated me during those 2 or 3 years I was working on RS because except for Til Death, I was usually trying to write about these really emotionally damaged characters. I pull it off with my villains, but I kinda suck at doing it with my hero or heroine. Obviously, it’s something that would probably get better with practice, but since I am good at the slightly light, comic side, it seems like I should go with it.

Anyway, since 2009 has been all about plotting and story structure, and I’ve learned so much, I want to go back and revisit Til Death and see if I can’t nail down the major plot points based on story structure. It seems like since I now have a much more solid idea of what was lacking in a lot of my prior plots, that I can go back to projects that I abandoned in the midst of the Dreaded Valley of the Shadow of the Middle, and rescue them. There are a lot of stories I love that need rescuing.

So…I’m not sure what that means in terms of what I’ll be working on this next year. I haven’t written a single word in the last week, so I will definitely be up for punishment tomorrow at Mission:Accountability. I still have to finish that last lecture (lots to cover on the moderate behaviorists), which I HOPE to do Monday and Tuesday. I think my brain has just needed a break. And then we’ll see. I’m still hoping to knock out the novella first draft by New Year’s. I’m right at halfway, so we’ll see. Then, the plan is to start on draft 2 of HiS, but if I get a solid plot outlined for Til Death then…well, we’ll see.

The fact that I’m revisiting the romantic suspense side of things brings up something that I’ve been pondering about. I write in two very different genres. I mean, there’s romance and suspense in both, but one side is very specifically other world paranormal romance and the other is straight up, more traditional romantic suspense. I know that it’s possible that if I wind up published in both, it’s possible my publisher may recommend that I publish one under one pen name and one under the other as a matter of branding. But of course I’m not published yet, so I don’t want to expend a lot of energy trying to brand two DIFFERENT pen names until I know which one I’ll actually get published with–the paranormal romance or the Mississippi based romantic suspense. Since I do plan to pursue both, I’ve been trying to figure out how to reflect that on my blog.

I was thinking maybe a theme that’s sort of a split personality. Something that shows in the header with Kait Nolan in the middle, the Murder and Magnolias sort of pictoral theme on one side, and the Mirus world stuff with wolves and fangs and whatever spooky stuff on the other. I’ll have to consult my fantastic web designer once she’s done giving birth (any day now!). She did such an amazing job with Pots and Plots that I’d really like to have her do something here. So anybody have thoughts or suggestions on that front? I mean, I could do something generic, but that doesn’t sound like nearly as much fun.

Tables are the staple of web sites. Even though CSS has arrived, which we won’t go into yet, tables remain much more functional and practical to use for displaying data and arranging the layout of a web page.

It helps to think of <table>s as legos. Much like them, you have blocks that you can group however you’d like.

The bare-bones table consists of:

<table>
<tr>
<td>Content</td>
</tr>
</table>

Which on a web page looks like:

Content

As basic as it gets, but it gets so much better very quickly. Let’s break down this code:

<table> = starts a table
<tr> = starts a table ROW
<td> = starts a table CELL

That’s basically it. The slashed brackets end what you started (i.e. </td> ends a <td>.)

With this sample code in mind, think: <td></td> is your lego block, the rest is about placement. It should also be noted that the coding for tables is hierarchical, neaning you better end your first <tr> before you start another one, and so forth.

For a more useful example let’s make a 2 x 2 grid:

<table>
<tr>
<td>Box 1</td>
<td>Box 2</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Box 3</td>
<td>Box 4</td>
</tr>
</table>

As we can see here, we have 2 columns, because there are 2 <tr> brackets. It’s also important to remember that <td>’s go ACROSS horizontally. So boxes 1 and 2 are on one row, and boxes 3 and 4 on the row below it.

Here’s that code in action:

Box 1

Box 2

Box 3

Box 4

I hope that this method is fairly straightforward and simple, if you have any questions regarding this concept, please write me a comment and I will happily answer it.

One final example to finish, let’s make the table a little more complex, with the same example we just used but with 2 boxes in place of box 2:

Box 1

Box 2

Box 3

Box 4

Box 5

So, how was this done? Actually, it’s 3 cells on the top row, and 2 on the bottom- but it looks like box 2 was made into 2 boxes because tables stay uniform. Meaning that whether you have 3 boxes, or 10 on one row, the row will fill up the space from the row that has the longest width (in this case Box 5 was stretched because Box 2 and Box 3 were wider.

Here’s the coding:

<table>
<tr>
<td>Box 1</td>
<td>Box 2</td>
<td>Box 3</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Box 4</td>
<td colspan=’2′>Box 5</td>
</tr>
</table>

colspan is the key here. I knew to put colspan=’2′ in that <td> because it was the one directly below Box 2, so adding that stretched Box 5 across 2 columns (hence why it is called columnspan)

That finishes up our simple HTML Tables tutorial, I hope it was of use to some web-goers out there.
Be creative!

They took to the streets and toppled their Government, dumping with it the banks and speculators that had caused the crisis through their greed and free market economics. There was no NAMA in Iceland, no bailing out of the banks and their hangers-on.

Today the icy island is experiencing economic ‘green shoots’ quite unlike Ireland

Where our crooks that led us into this catastrophe are still in place and they have successfully convinced the people to pay their gambling debts

But for how long will the people put up with this con job and take matters into their own hands?

The Government is busy telling us, they must fix the banking system first and then the finances of the country

This is all well and dandy but what about the likes of the hundreds of thousands of people like me who are unemployed?

Mr Cowen got up in the Dail yesterday and told the people that FAS was delivering courses for the unemployed. This is not what my personal experience shows

FAS was to do a course on web design ,starting on Sep 28th ,I applied for this course in February ,I heard nothing until I complained about the lack of information to FAS and I was called to an assessment exam just two weeks before the course was to begin

Here I was told that the course I was supposed to attend was no longer available; it was cancelled just like that

The FAS teacher went on to tell approximately 28 other people in the class that FAS was cancelling many more courses because of their budget problems

We were then told that the original course was now just 12 weeks (instead of 37 weeks ) and that the modules that were taken out were now included in the new requirements all candidates would have to have to attend the NEW 12 week course

All they did was to cut the original course from 37 weeks to 12 weeks to save money

Needless to say I was not successful in getting on to the new course because of these late changes!

I have heard from FAS in the last week informing me of a part time course again which is of no use to me as it will not result in me getting any job

What a Joke cutting courses when they should be putting on more courses that have real job’s prospects at the end of such courses

We need Jobs and not time wasting courses that are just filling in the rhetoric of out of touch politicians

An educated, available workforce, is more likely to be offered jobs

We need up skilling and re-education as a matter of national emergency

Where do we fit into your National Emergency Plan???

Climate change is a major problem. It’s huge. It’s the biggest thing we’ve ever fa

Climate change is a major problem. It’s huge. It’s the biggest thing we’ve ever faced as a species and is going to cause unimaginable damage to far too many other species apart from us. It’s something that we have a chance to fight back again though, which I really think you should do immediately. You can see my post from Monday here and act on climate change by getting in touch with key government officials.

But.

There is another problem. One that tends to be somewhat overlooked, but also feeds into and from climate change.

Peak Oil.

Is this a bigger problem then climate change? For me, I suppose it’s a matter of perspective. On the one hand, climate change virtually every species on earth. Peak oil, on the other hand, has a direct effect only on humans.

I’ll ignore that for the moment.

As I mentioned in my post on Monday, there was a speaker from the Association for the Study of Peak Oil & Gas Ireland (ASPO), Richard O’Rourke at the Union of Students of Ireland’s green training day last Saturday. He was talking to us about peak oil and had some very interesting points.

Oil is running out. Of the 70 oil-producing nations in the world, 60 are producing as much oil as they are ever likely to produce. They are at the plateau of their production levels. The International Energy Agency is predicting that oil production will have peaked by 2020. The world consumes 30 billion barrels of oil a year. Ireland imports 66 millions barrels of oil a year. Ireland’s biggest use of oil is on transport.

Now, not to state the obvious but once oil is gone, it’s totally gone. The worst part of all this is that oil has a very high energy density. It is incredibly difficult to replace, because it is so high-energy.

Photo owned by therichbrooks (cc)

Richard said that it is predicted that two things will happen in or around 2011/2012. The first is that Ireland’s economy will properly begin to grow again. In line with this and the recovering economies of the rest of the world, the second thing to happen will be a rapid spike in the price of oil. This, he said, is forecast to plunge Ireland into a second recession. He called this a ‘double dip’.

Oh dear. Well, once again there are plenty of things we can (and have to) do. We need massive investment in the electricity infrastructure in the West of Ireland, as this is where we’re going to be conducting most of our wind and wave electricity. We need to immediately, as a country, stop being so dependent on oil and change what we’re using oil on. Use up all the oil now and there’ll be none left to use in emergency generators when blackouts leave hospitals in darkness and when we really need it.

Again, this is only going to work if passionate people get involved. Tell your friends about peak oil. People don’t like discussing this ’cause they deem it ‘negative’ and ‘depressing’. To them, I say “Tough shit”. This is not the time for people to moan about something being unpleasant, or difficult to handle.

If this does not happen now then by the time we start to make the necessary changes it will be far too expensive. Think about it this way:

In order to harness wind energy, we need to build a wind turbine. In order to build a wind turbine, we need oil for the construction and transportation process (among many other things, but we’ll keep things simple). Today, oil is at a relatively low price. In 10 years, with minimal investment in alternative technologies and no reductions in consumption, oil will be extortionately expensive. The result is, then, that building a wind turbine now will be significantly cheaper in 10 months than in 10 years

Act now:

E-mail your local TD, as well as John Gormley (Minister for the Environment and Local Government), Eamon Ryan (Minister for Energy, Communications and Natural Resources) Brian Cowen (An Taoiseach) and Brian Lenihan (Minister for Finance) to express your concern over the potential economic and social effects of peak oil

Plan to cut down your oil usage

Start cutting down your oil usage!

Richard pointed us to a number of resources throughout his talk. Here are the ones I noted:

My Mistress was gracious enough to allow me to have a, companion, a fuck buddy in order to put me in my place and practice. The companion takes form of the pink pillow with a drawing on it and answers to the name Rosy. Mistress was not too happy with my behaviour and conversational skills with Rosy and wanted to have an indepenent and more objective view on the proceeding. therefore she requested Rosy’s observations and views on bitch’s behaviour. Here is Rosy’s response:

Dear Lady,
Pink is such a slut, Lady! And he can be inconsiderate and rude – imagine, using me just as a fuck pillow! Not treating me with the respect a lady deserves and expects! The little bitch did not talk to me for days! A lady expects wooing, cuddling and other girlish things before playing with the pussies starts! And, to be honest, I enjoy begging too!

If pink cannot treat me as he deserves he can fuck the floor. Heh, he draws something bitchy and haughty in me. Although that is not too hard.

I enjoy when he turns red – it matches my rosy complexion, but, pink really needs to correct my makeup.

Between us girls, Lady pink needs to speak to me in his true voice.

But I enjoyed watching him pull on his dix and struggle with it as we watched the game, He was enjoying his hiatus from being restricted to ‘make love’ to me’. Serves him well! ON the other hand, he is not a bad sort and can be quite a sport and a good conversationalist too although his fucking skills can leave the girl wanting sometimes. But, he is trying hard, just needs some practice. He enjoyed his wank free play and the results. IT did not make me too happy but Your wank slut was happy and I do care for his happiness and well being,

Lady I hope you are well and that my report helps You in handling Your slut property! Our properly if i may be so bold.

Quebrando a barreira! A maior barreira para uma boa oratória é o medo. Vejamos algumas das causas: •

Quebrando a barreira!

•	Quando se é um bom orador você consegue projetar no público uma imagem de autoconfiança, de coerência, de convicção, entre outras imagens satisfatórias, além de inspirar credibilidade e sobrepor um poder de persuasão;
•	Você se auto-analisa, percebendo que sua apresentação foi melhor do que estava imaginando;
•	Você consegue fazer com que o público coopere com você, no memento em que solicita ajuda deles ou os faz algumas perguntas;
•	Ao deparar-se com perguntas inesperadas você exercita seu raciocínio lógico;
•	Estimula a criatividade;
•	Intensifica o autoconhecimento;
•	Consolida prestigio perante o público;
•	Contribui para a disciplina mental;
•	Favorece a prática das habilidades de liderança;
•	Impulsiona as negociações;
•	Fortalece o marketing pessoal e profissional;
•	Potencializa as habilidades latentes;
•	Permite melhor planejamento e organização das idéias;
•	Proporciona melhores relações interpessoais;
•	Estabelece a interação;
•	Aumenta a produtividade;

Dear Minster

Having recently failed to get a FAS course on website development and having waited 9 months to hear that that course was cancelled I heard to-day from my local FAS office (Wicklow Town FAS)

Thanks to very professional front line staff at this office my letter to you, might have a lot more fire in it to say the least.

It came across like I was offered a consolation prize, of a part-time evening course (non payable)

An introduction to the web, a course I believe I am overqualified to attend and I would not want to take this place away from somebody who would need this place ,the FAS official agreed with me on that point!

With my last experience still fresh in my mind I proceeded to tell the FAS official that I was not sure that I could thrust in the course information as they seem to change these courses at will and by the time I would again go to start the course the criteria may have changed again

The people running FAS are completely out of touch with the needs of their would be students

Cancelling a course that had an obvious demand is just sheer incompetence

It’s not cutting courses they should be doing but increasing such Courses

The course I was applying for was for 37 weeks the course ended up as a 12 week course and the bits they took out became a new requirement for the bewildered students applying for the course yes the very subject matter we were supposed to be taught became a qualification to attend the course and this information was disclosed to us on the very day we were to sit an aptitude test

Nine months after I first applied for the course, and just 2 weeks before the new redefined course was to start.

I am still expected to pay my mortgage and pay al the house hold bills, without any help from the State I am fast running down my life’s savings, having wasted 9 months waiting for FAS to get its act together

What a farcical way to run a training agency!

Somebody can’t tell their face from their A***

With the state of this organisation it is no wonder that the country is in the mess it is in, heads should roll at the top of this incompetent organisation

I am calling on the Minster to take action now to resolve the obvious shortcomings within the FAS structure and to introduce new courses that would give the likes of myself, and others, a new future in the supposedly smart economy

I am beginning to think that there is institutional ageism in FAS

What good is a horny sub? by pink_voice (more poetry, blush)

What good is a horny sub
When You made him so?

What good is a horny sub?
A slut willing to just about anything
Just to get a piece of action,
Some dirty fun too
So You can say: boo.
For Your own satisfaction.
“Prance some more
Until you get sore
Get a freaking habit
So I can nab it
THIS will be you habit:
Morning noon and night
You will take an imaginary wanking flight
And pray regularly for the sight of heaven
That how close you will get
The cage-stage is set
And I say snap it.
To whatever performance I have in store
And nasty tortures galore
Let’s see how far you will go:
Be a monkey and say moo
To my ho ho?”

But the fun thing is
Let’s not forget it, please.
For a subbie a boo is a greater boon.
Then the distant sound of loo.
Followed by nothing at all.

What good is a horny sub?
When a slut screams: may I cum?
That is so much fun
And You can laugh:
“you will masturbate some more,
you dirty little whore.
Or at least you can dream of it
All rightly placed
While all is being away snatched
“Here’s one to go!’

Hoping to hear:
Ho ho ho!
Go go go.
Subbie implores:
May I come phleeeeese.
“Oh, no. It was just a tease.”
You offer a solace:
“You thought this was a Pleasure Palace.
You can only work in one.
There everybody gets to come.”

What use is the horny sub?
They are so sweet to torture and tease.
Hoping for release.
And when the time comes
That horny slut is ready to rut
Just about anything
That has a butt.
(Washing machines, floors an legs:
And he begs!)

What good is a cumming sub?
It’s a sight for sore sight
It’s the sweetest sight on earth
An endless ride of moans and sighs
That makes it right!
Let’s not forget:
Afterwards there’s a toast and drinking!
Be careful to serve and no spilling.

What good is a cummed sub?
A becumed sub is great
But cummed subbie?
Is he worth anything until recharged?
Is he worth a whoopee?
Is the release a release damned?

OH what good is a horny sub?
