<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Mark Smith of Factory 5 (yes, <em>that</em> Mark Smith) popped up on <a href="http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=4662201">the Car Lounge</a> asking about fitments for turbo kits on the Volkswagen VR6. Turns out, he&#8217;s plotting a mid-engined kit based on the VW MkIV (Golf, Jetta, GTI, and presumably New Beetle) platform. He didn&#8217;t start with the VR6 - he started with the TDi, VW&#8217;s turbodiesel lump. There&#8217;s a <a href="http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=262728">more serious build thread going on over at tdiclub.com</a>. This has the fixin&#8217;s to be the new cool VW kit, reminiscent of days when you could slap a kit over a Type 1 (Beetle) chassis and have yourself a new car. I might just have to hold on to my Diesel MkIV for a bit longer, as I&#8217;d love to have all that torque behind me, rather than in front, especially for the sub-$20K pricetag Mark is talking about.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Iran mendominasi etape pertama kejuaraan balap sepeda Speddy Tour d&#8217;Indonesia (TdI) 2009 yang melombakan nomor Team Time Trial (TTT) yang digelar di Jakarta, Minggu (22/11).Iran menempatkan dua timnya di posisi dua teratas etape pembuka kejuaraan tersebut yakni tim Tabriz Petrochemical Team yang menempati posisi pertama dengan catatan waktu tercepat 15 menit 00,068 detik dan Azad University Iran Pro Team yang berada di posisi kedua selisih 28 detik.</p>
<p>Tim pertama yang melakukan start adalah United Bike Kencana Kota Malang dan yang terakhir adalah Putra Perjuangan Kota Bandung.Posisi keempat nomor tersebut juga ditempati tim asing yakni Plan B Racing Team dari Australia dan tim dalam negeri yang paling cepat adalah DI Yogyakarta yang menempati posisi kelima secara keseluruhan dengan selisih waktu satu menit 15 detik dari posisi pertama.Kaus Kuning untuk pembalap yang mencatat waktu tercepat berhak dikenakan oleh pembalap Tabriz Petrochemical Team Mehdi Sohrabi, yang tercepat dalam timnya yang menempati posisi pertama.Nomor Sprint (Kaus Hijau) dan Tanjakan (Kaus Polkadot) meski belum dilombakan namun untuk sekedar formalitas masing masing diberikan pada pembalap tercepat dari tim kedua dan ketiga tercepat dalam nomor TTT tersebut.</p>
<p>Amir Zargari yang menjadi pembalap tercepat di Azad University Pro Team yang secara tim menempati posisi kedua mendapat Kaus Hijau dan Kazuki Aoyanagi dari Tim Nasional Jepang mendapat Kaus Polkadot.Sementara itu Kaus Merah Putih yang diberikan kepada pembalap tercepat nasional direbut oleh pembalap tim DI Yogyakarta Nugroho Krisnanto.</p>
<p>Real Madrid menggantikan posisi Barcelona di puncak klasemen Liga Utama Spanyol (La Liga) pada Sabtu setelah mereka&#38;</p>

<p>SEAT llegaba al circuito de Macau, última prueba de la temporada, con la intención de revalidar los dos títulos conseguidos el año pasado, el de Constructores y el de Pilotos. Pero antes <strong>Muller</strong> y <strong>Tarquini</strong> tendrían que luchar frente a frente con <strong>Farfus</strong> y <strong>Priaulx</strong>, de <strong>BMW</strong>.<br />

<p>Las cosas se ponían feas cuando el viernes, los dos pilotos de la marca española, tenían un accidente que les llevaba al hospital y sus coches quedaban dañados. Pero debido al trabajo de los mecánicos del equipo y a la fuerza de los pilotos, el sábado estaban en la pista para ganar.</p>

<p>En la primera carrera, <strong>R.Huff</strong>, de <strong>Chevrolet</strong>, se llevaba la victoria. <strong>Tarquini</strong> entraba segundo delante de <strong>Gené</strong>, con <strong>Yvan Muller</strong> quinto y <strong>Monteiro</strong> sexto. Este resultado daba matemáticamente el título a uno de los dos pilotos de <strong>SEAT</strong>. Todo estaba por decidir entre los pilotos del León TDI.</p>

Tercero era <strong>Y.Muller</strong>, cuarto <strong>T.Monteiro</strong>, quinto <strong>G.Tarquini</strong>, que arrebataba la posición a <strong>Gené</strong> tras un toque. A dos vueltas del final se suspendía la carrera por un accidente en la parte trasera, con lo que se confirmaba el triunfo de <strong>SEAT</strong> y de <strong>Gabriele Tarquini</strong>.</p>

<p><strong>Gabriele Tarquini</strong>, con 47 años, se convierte en el campeón más veterano de toda la historia del automovilismo y es el séptimo campeón mundial italiano. &#8220;Es algo extraordinario conseguir el título después de tantos años de carrera deportiva. Empecé el fin de semana con problemas, pero pude recuperarme y el trabajo extraordinario de mis mecánicos me permitió disputar en condiciones una carrera que representaba una oportunidad única que no podía desaprovechar. El campeonato ha sido muy duro, muy intenso y para ganar a dos rivales tan buenos como Yvan Muller y Augusto Farfus ha sido imprescindible marcar muchos puntos en todas las carreras&#8221;, manifestó el italiano.</p>

<p>Volkswagen uses two systems on their passenger cars option 9W2 and option 9W3. here is the catch 22: option 9W2 supports bluetooth streaming while 9W3 supports voice dialing, phone book transfer (expect on Jetta TDI/SEL) and caller ID.</p>
<p><strong>The ONLY Volkswagen that support A2DP are:</strong></p>

<li>Jetta S (with optional 9W2)</li>
<li>Jetta SE</li>
<li>Jetta Wolfsburg ediiton</li>
<li>Jetta Sportwagen ( all trim levels and engines)</li>

<p>The VW and Audi vehicle line-ups have never been stronger. Both feature a number of newer models, a wide range of product offerings, and loads of advanced technology. Fortunately the Canadian Automobile Journalists acknowledged this in their annual <a href="http://www.ajac.ca" target="_blank">AJAC Awards</a>. The VW Group &#8220;dominated&#8221; the awards, according to the Globe &#38; Mail, and walked away with the largest trophy collection of any of the manufacturers:</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Welcome to LIBTYFI.  Here you will find details, miniscule and mammoth, about my conversion to the GreaseLife.  You may be asking yourself, &#8220;Self&#8211;Why would Adam do such a crazy thing?&#8221;  5 simple reasons, my friends:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Simplicity</strong>&#8211;Who wouldn&#8217;t want a fueling station at home? (side effect:  less temptation to buy an M.T.O.)</li>
<li><strong>Independence</strong>&#8211;Provided PennDOT doesn&#8217;t squash my idea, my license plate will read:  FU-XON.  &#8217;Nuff said.</li>
<li><strong>$$$</strong>&#8211;Gas ain&#8217;t gettin&#8217; cheaper, folks.  <em>Editorializing alert #1!</em> While electric cars should be top priority, they&#8217;re not.  Even if everyone had one tomorrow, where are we going to get the electricity from?  In an ideal world, we wouldn&#8217;t need to burn anything to move us from A to B, but until a <em>cheap</em> and <em>mass</em><em>-</em><em>producible</em> solution exists&#8211;bring on the grease!</li>
<li><strong>Carbon Neutral</strong>&#8211;Am I burning something?  Yes.  But did that something engage in photosynthesis prior to its combustion (recently)?  Also, yes.  I only advocate the use of WVO for transportation, however.  What does that acronym mean?  WASTE Vegetable Oil.  <em>Editorializing alert #2! </em>Using valuable land to grow food for fuel is about as dumb as &#60;&#60;insert favorite dumb-related metaphor here&#62;&#62; (see effects of corn-based ethanol on food prices).  Ideally, we wouldn&#8217;t eat deep fried anything, and we&#8217;d all be healthier and happier.  But until that happens, there are about 2-3 BILLION gallons of this stuff generated in the U.S. per year.  That&#8217;d make a nice dent our carbon footprint, eh?</li>
<li><strong>IT&#8217;S SO COOL!!</strong>&#8211;When I tell people what I drive I usually get a &#8220;Huh?&#8221; immediately followed by a &#8220;WOW!&#8221;  The geek-factor is simply too much to pass up.  But I drive a late model Jetta with all the bells and whistles of a modern car (unlike some Greasers who go the old Benz, or similar, route) to show people you don&#8217;t need to make too many sacrifices to do something positive for the planet.  Making these &#8220;green&#8221; modifications to our lives needs to prove accessible AND easy, or they simply won&#8217;t catch.</li>

<p>I have to admit to never being happy with it, if you saw it before you will see what I mean, if you didn&#8217;t you did not miss anything but it now makes me smile, well the homepage does, the other pages will be improved gradually over time as there are more pressing avenues I have to follow to be able to continue the Custom work on the T4 itself.</p>
<p>A quick rundown, White T4 Builders Van, 2.5 Blue TDi, standard, chopped side panels out fitted windows, added a set of 16&#8243; Audi A4 Alloys, wind deflectors, gutted the inside, fully insulated the panels, carpeted the interior and a new ply lining and roof, added a futon, built a skimboard table, added a seat and storage, lights, Steering Wheel chandalier from first Beetle, Surfboard rack, longboard (skateboard), kenwood stereo, curtains being made right now, etc, etc.</p>
<p>Its not finished yet (never will be) but its tripping to the beach with boards weekly right now so musn&#8217;t grumble ;-D</p>

<title><![CDATA[Respiratory Minute Volume]]></title>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>It&#8217;s interesting that there is no agreement among agencies as to the exact definition of Respiratory Minute Volume (RMV) and Surface Air Consumption (SAC).</p>
<p>My original certification agency, NASDS, defined SAC as the surface equivalent number of PSI per minute on a dive, which is (PSI Consumed/Total Dive Time)/((33+Depth)/33).</p>
<p>IANTD does the same thing, and defines RMV as the SAC/(Working Pressure/Rated Cylinder Volume).</p>
<p>DSAT defines SAC as the same as IANTD and NASDS defines RMV, and defines RMV is the (<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tidal_volume" target="_blank">Tidal Volume</a> minus Respiratory dead air space) times <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Respiratory_rate" target="_blank">breaths/minute</a>. I added the parenthesis to what I read in the book (p42 Tec Deep Diver Manual) because otherwise it doesn&#8217;t make any sense. Oddly the Encyclopedia of Recreational Diving doesn&#8217;t seem to mention either term. Wikipedia&#8217;s <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Respiratory_minute_volume" target="_self">definition of RMV</a> is similar to DSAT but doesn&#8217;t factor Respiratory Dead Air Space.</p>
<p>In the SDI solo diving course SAC is defined as the volume per minute consumed at rest on the surface. They recommend breathing from a tank while sitting around watching TV or like activity to measure this. For me, consuming about 325 PSI of a 3000 PSI working pressure tank with a rated volume of 77.4 cubic feet in 30 minutes, this was about .28 cubic feet per minute. They call what IANTD and NASDS call RMV the SRMV, or Surface Respiratory Minute Volume. They then go on to recommend that before each dive the RMV by multiplying by the number of absolute atmospheres of pressure and also by a &#8220;Dive Factor&#8221;, which takes into account effort and should be at least 1.5 for an easy dive, and perhaps more than 3 for a high effort, cold or stressful dive.</p>
<p>Disconcertingly, their sister agency, TDI, recommends determining SAC using a swim at depth, the very thing that SDI says doesn&#8217;t work, and implies that RMV is just another term for SAC.</p>
<p>0.28 seems a bit low. I think having the reg in my mouth called attention to my breathing and slowed it down some. At 33 feet a tank would last over 2 hours at that rate, although my record is about an hour and 20 minutes on a reef dive (and 1h 40 in really shallow water) on a single 80 so maybe it&#8217;s not all that far fetched. I know when it&#8217;s cold and I&#8217;m working a bit hard the rate goes way, way up.</p>
<p>It would be nice to have a consensus between agencies on this topic. Maybe ISO will define it some day.</p>

<title><![CDATA[Ensinar ciências sem acreditar em Darwin: é possível?]]></title>

<p style="text-align:justify;">O jornal Estado de S. Paulo publicou, nesta segunda-feira, 2 de novembro, uma interessante notícia. O doutorando Luis Fernando Marques Dorvillé, ao procurar responder à pergunta que dá título a este artigo, passou 8 anos entrevistando alunos para sua tese de doutorado, pela Universidade Federal Fluminense. Afinal, ele não consegue entender como alguém pode ensinar ciências sem acreditar na teoria de Darwin.</p>
<blockquote><p>Ele distribuiu questionários entre os alunos de todas as religiões. Diante de questões como: &#8220;Comente a frase: alguns seres vivos têm parentesco maior entre si do que com outros&#8221; descobriu que a desconfiança sobre teoria da evolução chega a 70% entre os protestantes, 30% dos católicos e 20% dos espíritas e umbandistas (1).</p></blockquote>
<p style="text-align:justify;">A reportagem fala da indignação do pesquisador ante o embate dos alunos, e da acomodação e conciliação dos estudantes frente ao que aprendem. É possível ensinar ciências sem acreditar em Darwin?</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Alguns relatos são impressionantes. Um dos alunos, no calor da discussão, disse: &#8220;Minha avó não é macaca. Então foi Deus quem criou o homem.&#8221; Dói só de ouvir. Outro, mais perturbador ainda, disse: &#8220;Eu sei de tudo isso que você está me falando, mas prefiro não pensar muito.&#8221; Ainda há o relato de Aline Malafaia, que, para a surpresa de qualquer um que leia a Bíblia e estude Biologia, diz que os 7 dias da criação podem ter sido 7 milhões de anos, nos quais a evolução ocorreu. Absurdo evolucionista, porque a evolução da vida teria levado bilhões (não milhões de anos); absurdo criacionista, porque um Deus que faz milagres diz que criou em sete dias literais, mas ela diz que não; absurdo hermenêutico, porque o que ela disse arruína a interpretação sadia do Livro, e desestabiliza (talvez causando desmoronamento) as bases da fé cristã. Será que ela ensinaria isso na Escola Dominical, já que é sua fé?</p>
<h3 style="text-align:justify;"><em><span style="color:#3366ff;"><strong>Se Darwin não quis conciliar as coisas, por que eu vou querer?</strong></span></em></h3>
<p style="text-align:justify;">O próprio Darwin não aceitava a conciliação entre o Gênesis e a sua teoria. Para ele, não era possível que um Deus de amor criasse um mecanismo cruel como a seleção natural. Ele evitou o quanto pode que as pessoas conciliassem a teoria da evolução e o livro de Gênesis. E estava certo. Não dá mesmo. Ou se crê na teoria da evolução, ou se crê no relato de Gênesis. Veja bem, estou usando o conceito de fé para ambos os casos, porque é disso que se trata a coisa toda.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Se é assim, o que nós, professores dedicados de ciência, deveríamos fazer? Como um criacionista pode ensinar evolução?</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Passei grande parte de minha graduação fugindo dessa pergunta. Até que entendi que a evolução é <em>a teoria mais aceita entre os cientistas, hoje. </em>Bem, pode ser a mais aceita, mas não é unânime, e nem é a única. Ela tem verdadeiros rombos inexplicáveis, e faltam-lhe muitos pedações e pedacinhos. Mas é importante considerar o que deve ser ensinado independente de ensinar transformismo de táxons.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Deve-se ensinar seleção natural. É comprovada. Deve-se ensinar especiação. Deve-se ensinar isolamentos geográficos, reprodutivos. Deve-se ensinar mutações e DNA. Deve-se ensinar taxonomia. Deve-se ensinar geologia. Isso não é teoria da evolução. Isso é Biologia.</p>
<h3 style="text-align:justify;"><em><span style="color:#3366ff;">Um glossário básico</span><br />
</em></h3>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Teoria da Evolução é o nome que damos à<strong> fé</strong> que liga todos esses fatos da biologia à <strong>crença</strong> de que todos os animais têm um ancestral comum, em uma célula &#8220;simples&#8221; que surgiu a uns 3 bilhões de anos atrás, fruto do acaso cego que gerou a vida, que se desenvolveu e aumentou em complexidade por ação das mutações e seleção natural, entre outros processos. É o paradigma dominante hoje, e fazem pesquisas com ele.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Por outro lado, Teoria do Design Inteligente (TDI) é o nome que damos à <strong>fé</strong> que liga todos esses fatos da biologia à <strong>crença</strong> de que todo o universo apresenta evidências sólidas de projeto, e que, portanto, tem um Designer Inteligente desconhecido que o projetou. É um paradigma emergente hoje, e fazem pesquisas com ele.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">E Criacionismo é o nome que damos à <strong>fé</strong> que liga esses fatos da biologia à crença de que tudo isso tem um Designer Inteligente, que pode ser conhecido, e revela-se na Bíblia, sendo o Deus judaico-cristão que chamamos de &#8220;Pai nosso que está nos céus&#8221;. É um paradigma resistente até hoje, e fazem pesquisas com ele.</p>
<h3 style="text-align:justify;"><em><strong><span style="color:#3366ff;">Minha revolta é a seguinte&#8230; </span></strong></em></h3>
<p style="text-align:justify;">A sociedade recusa-se a aceitar que a teoria da evolução é sobretudo questão de fé. Portanto, não deve ser ensinada como fato científico. Contudo, para eles, devemos ensinar aos alunos que os peixes evoluíram para anfíbios. Legal. Mas o que faremos quando os alunos perguntarem: &#8220;Professor, como eu posso ter certeza que as coisas aconteceram desse jeito?&#8221; Ah, já sei! Vamos responder assim, né? &#8220;Essa é a posição dominante entre os cientistas.&#8221; Em outras palavras: &#8220;Você tem que acreditar no que a maioria das pessoas acredita, mesmo sem evidências sólidas, ou explicações adequadas.&#8221;</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Mas abram-se os livros didáticos, e ver-se-á que a evolução está lá sendo ensinada como fato absoluto. As evidências são arrumadas e organizadas para apoiarem esse paradigma. Não há nem uma palavra sobre a TDI, nem uma explicação sobre o que é criacionismo, senão escárneo. Desse jeito, é melhor chamarmos nossas aulas de ciências de catecismo ao ateísmo. Combina mais com fé que com ciência.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">E os estudantes (universitários) cristãos, que poderiam se atualizar, estudar mais e tentar propor uma mudança (que é possível), acomodam-se e deixam-se calar, negando sua fé, moldando-a aos ensinos mutáveis da pseudociência, com o intuito de ter sucesso profissional (leia-se, no caso de alguns, vender-se por dinheiro). Que vergonha para aqueles que se dizem  cristãos e protestantes, pois negam a própria essência do protestantismo e do cristianismo: ter a Bíblia como Palavra de Deus, infalível e inerrante. Preferem acreditar no que as últimas pesquisas dizem, e reinterpretar a Bíblia ao seu gosto, que acreditar no que Deus já disse há tento tempo atrás.</p>

<h3 style="text-align:justify;"><em><span style="color:#3366ff;">Respondendo a questão</span></em></h3>
<p style="text-align:justify;">É perfeitamente possível ser professor de Ciências sem acreditar em tudo o que Charles Darwin disse. Isso porque o que o professor de ciências precisa ensinar é Ciências Naturais &#8211; Física, Química, Biologia. Mas também deveria poder ensinar evidências que os criacionistas e <em>designers</em> descobrem e propõem, não só as que os evolucionistas propõem (muitas delas desatualizadas e já respondidas, embora as respostas não estejam lá no livro).</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Mas podem acreditar no que quiserem. O que não é possível é um cristão sem o Gênesis, sem a Bíblia. Esse tipo de cristão ainda não evoluiu, nem pode evoluir.</p>

<p>The Audi A3 TDI and VW Golf TDI have been named as finalists for the Green Car of the Year award. The award will be presented at the L.A. Auto Show in December. Other finalists included the Honda Insight, Mercury Milan Hybrid, and the Toyota Prius. Hopefully the A3 or Golf will have the inside track to the winner&#8217;s podium, after all last year&#8217;s winner was the VW Jetta TDI. The winner will be decided by the Green Car Journal editors and a few celebrity judges &#8211; including Jay Leno. Both cars should hit our showrooms by December.</p>

W sumie najpierw powinienem napisać co nieco o Skodzie, ale Swift jest mi bliższy z racji tego, że podczas jazdy na sesję to właśnie Swiftem kierowałem. Przyznaję &#8211; oba samochody są fajne i pozwalają czerpać radość z jazdy, ale Swift jest jakby zadziorniejszy.</p>
<p>Silnik jest niewielki, bo tylko 1.3 litra, ale za to jego duch walki ogromny. Bez marudzenia kręci się do okolic 7,5 tysiąca obrotów, a na drugim biegu osiąga równą setkę. Właścicielka samochodu postanowiła postąpić według zasady mówiącej, że piękno tkwi w prostocie. Tak oto wnętrze samochodu otrzymało tapicerkę będącą połączeniem skóry i alcantary. Została także zmieniona gałka zmiany biegów. Zmiany rzucające się w oczy z zewnątrz, to przyciemnione szyby, sportowa końcówka tłumika oraz białe felgi Momo, które komponują się z kolorem dachu i lusterek. Felgi wyposażono w opony o rozmiarze 215/45/16 (jeśli dobrze pamiętam). Dzięki temu samochód świetnie się prowadzi bez przeprowadzania modyfikacji zawieszenia&#8230; aż strach pomyśleć co by było po lekkim obniżeniu i utwardzeniu. Szkoda tylko, że właścicielka postanowiła pozostawić fabryczny system nagłośnienia. Niskie tony są kiepsko słyszalne, średnich w zasadzie nie da się odróżnić nawet słuchając akustycznych kawałków, a wysokie, to przy większej głośności masakra dla uszu. <p>No i tak oto przechodzimy do sedna, czyli kompleksowo zmodyfikowanej Skody Octavii kombi 1.9 TDI. Samochód już wcześniej był przerobiony stylistycznie, ale właściciel postanowił zmienić jego wygląd po delikatnej stłuczce. Tak oto auto otrzymało nowe zderzaki, dedykowane progi oraz poszerzenia wykonane z wysokiej jakości tworzywa (cena też była odpowiednio wysoka). Ponad to maska oraz dach zostały pomalowane na czarno, a reszta samochodu na biało. Zamiast znaczka Skody na grillu znajdziemy znaczek firmy AG Tuning. Jak widać zmieniono także koła&#8230; oczywiście na większe. W środku całkowicie zmieniono tapicerkę. Znajdziemy tam kombinację skóry oraz alcantary. Co ciekawe kierownica została obszyta w taki sposób aby w razie czego poduszka powietrzna mogła swobodnie wystrzelić&#8230; czego oczywiście nikomu nie życzę. Na fotelach wyszyto logo AG Tuning. Znajdziemy je także na gałce zmiany biegów. Z przeróbek mechanicznych podrasowano elektronikę silnika poprzez montaż chipu oraz wymieniono turbinę. Ponad założono mocniejsze hamulce firmy Brembo oraz obniżono i utwardzono zawieszenie. Dzięki temu samochód nie tylko doskonale przyspiesza i hamuje, ale także trzyma się drogi jak przyklejony.
