The task: Turn a 40 page Master’s project into a series of images that share the months of research I conducted. You can take a look at the final product here.

In the process of creating my “Pinterest Thesis” page, I began to realize that others–homeschool parents, teachers, instructional coaches, librarians–had the same idea…Using Pinterest as a way to share educational materials and best practices. Not to brag or anything, but teachers are pretty good at sharing. The amount of teachers turning their Pinterest pages into a one stop education gold mine is pretty darn amazing. While I will still go to my nearest library or an education site to gather ideas for the classroom, there’s nothing like getting ideas from another practitioner. I’ve got a good collection going myself (arranged by subject, of course), but there are many others who are hitting it out of the ball park. I’m very excited to see the teacher community on Pinterest grow.

Below is a PDF of an ActivInspire PDF put together as an example of the use of Interactive Whiteboards in the classroom.

Timeline Lesson Plan

View more documents from mrsdztb

Are Interactive Whiteboards the be all and end all of education?

I hope not. I hope that any technology teachers use in the classroom is a MEANS to educate student, not the education in itself (unless of course we are in a technology class).

Here are my personal findings from using the IWB this week:

- Where with a traditional whiteboard you have to organise your time putting together resources – notes etc, with an IWB these are all available

- The IWB does allow for a level of interactivity from the classroom that the teacher can set dependent on the behaviour of students and time of day.

- The IWB allows for the teacher to have back up resources in case students work through things too quickly

The IWB does make life easier for a teacher, and ensures resources are organised, but more importantly, I return to the topic of Vygotsky’s social constructivism. IWBs and sites like Promethean Planet allow teachers to have a collaborative learning environment sharing resources. I don’t mean that every teacher will use the exact same lesson, but why should EVERY Teacher put together a timeline for world history when, lets face it, it’s the same everywhere in the world? Teachers should be able to adjust these IWB presentations to suit their students and feedback on what works and what doesn’t. Every IWB On Promethean planet should improve with every upload! Or at least it would in my world.
