Man this stuff is driving me crazy. I have to write an algorithm to implement CC on a cube in OpenGL and C++. So I can figure out the face points, I can figure out the edge points and edge mid points….

but at this point any and all documentation I have read fails to make sense. The vertex point. Not only is there some vague reference to moving the original vertex point (:S) but I also can’t conceptualise how I’d figure out faces adjacent to the original vertex point so I can get the face points of them.

I was going through posts (and someone nudged me a little ) and I realized that I haven’t really been tacking on as much advice to go along with the posts I have been posting. I will try to do that more often. Lets see…IF YOUR COMPUTER IS NOT WORKING AND YOU HAVE BEEN TO SEE THE TECH PEOPLE TWICE ALREADY, KEEP PESTERING THEM. It’s their job to get it right. Like now my computer can connect to the internet in the library, but not in my dorm room and it was able to do that fine before I took it to them in the first place. Also, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE COMPUTERS IN THE LIBRARY. I have basically been living in the library for the past couple of days so I can have internet service and word and other programs at the same time. So now it is off to see the tech people and then to my last class of the day at 1pm. Sounds like a plan.

My computer is still being a little jerk face. Now the fake antivirus software is gone, but there is now an alert I get that says the IP address is conflicting with another one on the internet server (because we all share the same one) so for the past day and a half I have been reduced to doing my homework either in the library or the dorm computer lab. It’s really really annoying. I went to the tech people today and I thought they fixed it because I could get onto the internet down there after they typed in a command. However, when I got back to my room, I got the pop-up error again. I don’t get it. I’ll have to take it down there again, which isn’t that big of a deal, it’s just frustrating and a hassle for me. Thankfully my French class is cancelled for tomorrow so I will use that hour to print out my homework in the library and to take my computer to the tech people again. I’m getting sick of that little room.

Last night I was watching a movie trailer off the website IMDB (internet movie database) and when I was done, I closed the window. Instead of just that one window closing, all of Internet Explorer shut down and a message came up telling me my computer was infected. I of course freaked out and proceeded to call my parents. My dad is pretty good about giving suggestions on how to fix a computer that is having issues. My computer wasn’t really infected. Somehow a fake antivirus called antivirus system pro was telling me my computer was infected so I would buy $50 software to fix it. I have antivirus software already so it was just trying to scam money off me. However, I am not that stupid. My dad and I spent an hour and a half trying to figure out a way to get the fake antivirus deleted because it kept showing annoying popups over and over and so we both didn’t end up going to bed until past midnight. We couldn’t get it fixed so I took it to the on campus tech help center today to see if they can fix it. It is in their hands now. I don’t think my computer is being hurt in anyway, it’s just an annoyance until you can get it removed. USE THE TECH HELP PEOPLE IF YOUR SCHOOL HAS THEM. If there is a problem with your computer and you can’t get it fixed, take the computer to them! They have really savvy computer people who have seen similar problems and know how to fix it even if you can’t or you have tried yourself. They have better programs and equipment. Hopefully they can fix it. I’m pretty sure they can

… can anyone help before I take a thousand straight pins and stick them all into the WordPress main page turning my laptop into a technological voodoo doll?

‘Cause last night I was monkeying around with changing the email address associated with my account and the gravatar (the little picture next to your name) disappeared.

I figured out that the picture is associated with the email address and NOT the actual wordpress account so I finagled some more and got my picture attached to the NEW email address..

A little message said that it was updated and would take .. A FEW MINUTES to take effect.

IT’S BEEN HOURS and there’s still the generic green design box showing.

If I check under the USERS options on the dashboard (where I changed the email address) it shows the correct picture so I don’t know WHAT the hell is happening!!

Any thoughts???

Ok, maybe that’s a bit harsh, but come on. Why the heck doesn’t Google have a way to sync its amazing calendar system with Entourage? I don’t want to deal with iCal bullshit & so apparently sync-ing the two isn’t possible. I think in reality, they just want to make Mac users wait since this feature is already available for people with PCs that want to sync Gcal with Outlook.

If anyone important-ish is reading (meaning anyone at Google or anyone who knows how to design programs like this), please, please, puh-leaseeee hook us up with a way to sync our shizzzz!

Yeah it has been a bit quiet on the blog front hasn’t it. I got quite into it but then I got busy going to visit Hannah’s island, my family and resits. Though I think I was blogging around the resit time actually… so who knows what I’ve been doing.
No one answered my plea about the triple boot but as it turns out it’s because refit won’t allow my new MacBook Pro model boot from a usb live image for some reason, maybe they’ll update it soon because quite a few people on the website are kicking off about it (well… not kicking off, mentioning it). So I burned a live CD like you probably should. But then I entered a whole new world of pain. Apparently Fedora does not get on well with nVidia graphics cards at the best of times… and I needed to find some kernel arguments that worked on a 9400m, which I couldn’t, if anyone reads this and knows, any help would be greatly appreciated.
I passed my resit, I know that information hasn’t been put on here. One mark off a C… which is good for that module considering when I started revising before the exam I knew nothing with a capital N. And next week my third year of my course begins which promises to be good times. It seems they keep all the good stuff until the third year. You only get to have fun if you weather the storm. Still hunting for a job, know anyone in Brighton looking for staff… let me know? Please? Pretty please……

Thought I’d post how to delete gamertags off your XBox 360 since I did some of this today. First go under your XBox 360’s dashboard. Now go under the My XBox channel. Go all the way down to system settings. The number below system settings in the box is the amount of memory left on your XBox 360. So click system settings and then select memory, then select harddrive and then gamertags. Then choose which to delete from your XBox 360. You can either delete just the gamertag or the achievements and the gamertag. Deleting the achievements and the gamertag gives you more memory. Rinse and repeat for all gamertags you wish to delete off your XBox 360 and there you go. Oh and a final note: If it is an XBox Live gamertag (silver or otherwise) the achievements can be restored by logging in with that account from any XBox 360. That’s all, hope this helps!

Okay this one’s pretty easy, but it took me a half hour to figure out. (Google was no help on this, kept getting complaints about not being about to show images on twitter, but based on the amount of porn spams I’ve gotten in the last hour I went live, that’s a good thing.) Ahem, anywho, left click on the background of any twitter page while using Mozilla Firefox, Explorer buddies I think this’ll work for you dudes too. Now select View Page Info, click the Media tab and scroll down, this shows you what Firefox is and isn’t allowing to go through to you computer, get down to some labeled images that are grey and italic. These little dudes didn’t make it past the screening. Double check to see if they’re from s3.amazonaws.com and if so click unblock. This seems to have a ripple effect and unblocks all of them blocked (both present and future) by Firefox. Refresh your page and presto! Your images are there and so’s my Pyro icon. Woot!

But wait? What is s3.amazonaws.com? A virus site? Nah, it’s actually where Twitter stores all the images and outsources them from when you upload something, it’s probably to prevent lag. Don’t believe me? Type it in. You’ll just get http://aws.amazon.com/s3/ which is a stoage website “for the internet.” And there you go

Greetings all! Andy here about to launch his new blog, dedicated to a friend whose been having techn

Greetings all! Andy here about to launch his new blog, dedicated to a friend whose been having technical problems connecting to the world wide web through her wireless router. So we’re going to go down some very simple, but very crucial, tips/Q&A to get your computer’s connection going. First I would like to state that these tips and answers are directly specifically with Windows Vista in mind. All others who may have Apple’s OSX, Windows 98, or XP, etc. may have to tweak the answers and explore a bit. With that said, let’s start with the basics, what’s a router?

I like to think of a router like an electrical strip. Your modem, that big grey omnious box is like your electrical socket: you can plug one thing into it directly and get something out of it, or you can plug your router in and then plug tons of things into that. Now while you can literally “plug” things into a router via an internet cable, you can also use their wireless feature. (Check the box to see if they have it. An antenna sticking out of the router is a big clue. If it has Wi-Fi its usually always running, but check the box/instructions to make sure. ) So how do you receive this omnipotent “Wi-Fi” with your humble little PC or laptop? Well there’s a couple ways. If it’s a PC, the easiest thing to do is buy a small and affordable USB Wireless Adapter usually for about $30 at any local computer store or online. Plug it in and your good to go. Unless you have an “IP Address Conflict!” which we’ll get to in a minute.

Laptops, well there’s several ways of doing it. The first is, most laptops have a wireless receiver actually in them, especially if it’s new. How do you know this? Well, check out this picture:

Can you read that message at the bottom of the screen on the right hand side? If you can, you have better eye sight then me, but anyway it states “Not Connected” and that “wireless networks are available.” So, how did I manage to make that appear? Well, I hovered over those two little boxes with the X on them, near your clock on your bar. Actually in your case it should have a blue orb beside the boxes, meaning your connected to the internet. If your not, please tell me how you got here…

So what happens if that doesn’t show up? Well, easiest thing to do is buy a USB wireless adapter, like I mentioned above, you can also buy what’s known as a wireless card that fit into the side of your computer if its an older model. (I’d go with the USB myself, you can always use that again with any computer, while the cards are dated.)

So, we’re back to the picture. Now we can connect to the router, but how do we do this? Well, let’s go back to the picture, our cursor is now hovering over the boxes and we have the message on the screen. Now right click and select from the options now appearing, “Connect to a network”. This should bring you to this lovely picture:

So, if your not here, then you’re probably using a different operating system (98, XP, Apple) or did one of the other steps wrong so review! Oh, and if you got an image of a golden retriever or a giant cat hissing then you either definitely did something wrong or should seek medical attention. Or both. Anywho, so we’re here, and may have several listings, one of which you should recognise as your router because one: it’ll probably be the name of the company that makes it (unless someone installed it and changed the name, like if your at college or a cafe) and two: it’s obviously going to be the strongest (a router’s wi-fi range should cover an entire house, on all floors, unless you have a really big house). So, select from the list and then go down below and select connect, right next to the cancel button. And presto! You should be connected to the internet!

But what happens if your not? What happens if instead a little ! sign pops up next to those two little boxes, your connection fails, and that robot from Lost in Space suddenly appears shouting “DANGER FAMILY ROBINSON! DANGER! DANGER!” Well, if all three of those things happen you should probably go seek medical help again because you’re hallucinating a robot. However, if there’s no robot then chances are it’s probably just an IP address issue. So what’s an IP address?

An IP address is kind of your key to the router, but there’s an issue. If your computer is set to only receive one key and that keys been taking by an computer, it won’t let you hook up to the router (AKA the car). So how do we change this? Well this one’s easy. Go under your control panel, either on your desktop (unless you’ve moved it from your desktop) or on your start bar. Once your there, find an icon labeled “Network connections” and click it. There’s should be something labeled “Wireless Internet Connection” in the now current box. Right click that to bring up it’s properties. Now click the networking tab and you should be viewing something that looks like this:

Now select either “Internet Protocal Version 4 (TCP/Pv4)” and “Internet Protocal Version 6 (TCP/Pv6)” and click properties down below. Pv4 is highlighted in the picture above as is the properties button. Select “Obtain IP address automatically” on both Pv4 and Pv6 and that should fix the problem. You can now pick any pair of keys to the car. If you still can’t connect, try doing the same thing again, but this time select the automatic option for the “DNS Server” which is the code/wave/thing emitted from your wireless router. Now you can also pick any “car” your near as well as set of keys for the car whether your at home, at a cafe, or at your boring neighbor’s house. And that should fix your problem. If you ever need to review this again and can’t get to this webpage, then go under Help and Support on your start bar and type in “Change IP Address” then hit search. Your first option should bring you back to this steps in a simple step by step set up with links to some of the places, like the Network Connections. Anywho, that’s it for now, remember two always use the Public Option unless at home or at work and try to avoid any seedy websites and that is all. Oh, if you’re still seeing that robot, you really need to get over to the hospital. Now.

Warning: This should be attempted by those who are severely impatient (like me!) most likely you wil

Warning: This should be attempted by those who are severely impatient (like me!) most likely you will receive the update without any further action, its just a matter of time. (From what has been reported, even if you have unlocked your phone)

my poor attempt at making something cool with my g1 phone

For those of you who are looking to get your bite of the Cupcake Release before the over the air update (Cupcake new features are here), then I have installed it on my phone didn’t find any issues except for a few application compatibility issues with the update however you should follow these rules at your own risk.

I downloaded the EU update which seems to have all the bits in it, works perfectly on the UK networks and is reassuringly downloaded from Google itself. (thanks to German Android Hilfe for the information) . I know that there is a UK version floating around in the wild however this if anyone can supply the original google link for it, I would be happy to included it here.

Before you start:

The following applications should be removed prior to installing

1. Toggle settings (there is a new Toggle Settings(cupcake Release ) in the market which you should install after the update

2. Chomp Sms- There is also a new cupcake compatible release in the market.

Right now to the installation:

1. First thing is to make sure you are on the RC9 release of Google Android on your phone ( Android 1.1)- go to Settings->About Phone

1. Download the latest Android 1.5 Update

2. Copy the file onto your MIcro –SD card by mounting your phone onto your pc.

3. Rename the file to Update.zip and wait a minute or two before you unplug.

4. Turn off the handheld and when you power it back up press and hold the home key until you see a warning logo appear.

(If you see the google android logo, then you need to power it down and try again.)

5. Press Alt-L on the keyboard

6. Follow onscreen prompt to press Alt-s to apply the update

7. then leave it alone- it takes a long time- it will reboot when it is good and ready.

Enjoy!
