Ok…iPhone rocks….thanks hubby…I am officially on the road with my husband and I said to myself I wonder if there’s an App for wordpress…. And low and behold here we are… I should have no excuse now….we will see…update on my life… No old project completed…kids have been eating noodles and the house could use cleaning…however I have completed our long over due budget expense plan for the year. I am detirmind to curve my spending which should hopefully help with anyfurther packrat collecting …. Wish me luck… Side note : IM SORRY IKEA …I MISS YOU TOO!

Somehow my relationship w mobile phone never last more than a year. It commits adultery, gives me cold shoulder and ditches me for no valid reason. I swear that I have been a faithful lover but somehow he moves on and I have to too.

Be it Nokia, Motorola, Ericsson or my latest Omnia, they broke my heart. My friends said it is the user (that’s me) fault and not the quality of the lovers… whatever, i can’t wait till Sep 09 to come so that i can ‘file for divorce’ w Omnia and go back to Nokia. Sigh….

Intelligence Bureau — which has come under flak for its failure to keep tabs on tech savvy jihadis — is set for major revamp with the g

overnment recruiting 6,000 more spies to strengthen its existing cadre of nearly 25,000 personnel. The IB will also get modern gadgets to monitor cyber communication.

The idea is to turn the internal spy agency into a potent force to fight terrorists through effective intelligence in the age of modern communication systems. While new-age gadgets will give IB an edge through technology, the increased manpower will widen the scope for human intelligence (humint) — which played an important role in cracking recent terror attack cases.

The home ministry also plans to set up an exclusive “research & technology centre” within IB to keep a complete databank of terrorists and suspicious persons under one umbrella. The job of the new centre will also be to “research and analyse” the technological aspects of threats which have, of late, multiplied due to extensive use of the Internet by the new breed of educated terrorists.

“Widespread use of cyber technology — like Wi-Fi system — in the recent terror attacks, where terrorists of Indian Mujahideen (IM) had not only used it for sending emails but also for networking among their cadres for planning and execution of their operations, has forced us to rethink our strategy,” said a senior home ministry official.

The plan for modernisation and increasing the strength of IB — which has already got Cabinet nod — came up for review recently when home minister Shivraj Patil asked the agency to complete the recruitment process of 6,000 additional spies, including technical and cyber experts, by next year. The emphasis in the meeting — attended by IB chief P C Haldar and home secretary Madhukar Gupta among others — was on impressing upon states to strengthen their special branches (intelligence wing) with the Centre helping them out with funds and expertise.

Referring to how new technologies were increasingly being used by jihadis for assembling bombs (using integrated chips for the first time in Bangalore and Surat operations) and networking among themselves through Internet, the official said, “Since terrorists the world over are using new communication technologies as ‘weapon of mass influence’ for the warfare, we cannot afford to function in the traditional way — even though it has its own importance.”

Though the official did not disclose the kind of methodology being adopted to fight tech savvy jihadis, he mentioned the possibility of bringing certain changes in the Information & Technology Act to widen the scope of cyber intercepts, including snooping on text messages.

Los jóvenes son tecnológicos.  Disfrutan de jugar con instrumentos tecnológicos complejos, no piensan en la tecnología como “tecnología” sino que simplemente la reconocen como un bien primario, trabajan en distintas cosas al mismo tiempo, son exigentes, buscan satisfacer con el menor costo posible sus gustos, detestan la gente ineficiente, leen menos, miran más televisión y utilizan internet durante varias horas al día.  Son jóvenes tecnológicos.

Pero también están los viejos fóbicos.  Estos viejos tiene la misma edad de esos jóvenes que nacieron entre 1980 y 1990 pero han decidido gritar “‘¡alto!” en contra de la tecnología.  Yo lo hice con Facebook al percatarme que mis lazos con personas que viven alrededor mío empezaban a romperse.  Dejé de verlos y ya no me llamaban.  Al salir de Facebook muchos de ellos ni siquiera se percataron de mi ausencia.

Otros han sido más extremos.  Dejaron totalmente apagadas sus computadoras personales.  No utilizan teléfonos celulares, evitan utilizar internet y revisar sus correos.  No utilizan juegos virtuales y tampoco hacen uso de gadgets para hacer de sus trabajo más sencillo.  La razón que dan es probablemente válida, es una respuesta a los cambios bruscos que actualmente hay.

Dejé Facebook, pero me encantaría comprar un Amazon Kindle, tener acceso a sus periódicos online y me muero por conseguir un robot de la Honda.  Quizás estos viejos fóbicos cambiarán de opinión cuando se den cuenta de las ventajas que tienen algunos servicios tecnológicos que sí satisfagan sus tan exigentes gustos y deseos.

El día de hoy estuve en una reunión que evaluó una muestra de estudiantes guatemaltecos.  La  muestra buscaba encontrar características específicas para una generación estadounidense que de acuerdo al Dr. Richard Sweeney recibe el nombre de Millenials.

El grupo etario de esa generación (Millennials) comprende en USA a aquellas personas que nacieron en el año 1979-1994.  Ellos, son como la mayoría de jóvenes guatemaltecos que cuentan con acceso a servicios digitales, informáticos y electrónicos.  Léase, todos aquellos jóvenes que tienen suficiente dinero para pagar al menos un teléfono celular y un radio.  Porque creo que en Guatemala no somos muchos los casos que podemos cumplir con los requisitos tecnológicos de la mencionada generación estadounidense.

Pero bueno, una de las preguntas fue: ¿cuántos amigos cercanos tienen?

Mi respuesta es: 2 amigos cercanos.

Sin embargo, se que me comparto una enorme empatía por aquellas personas que pasan más de 8 horas al día sentados frente a su computadora personal.  Me gusta cuando recibo respuestas inmediatas a mis correos electrónicos y me gusta cuando sé mucho más de la vida de estas personas a través de Internet que en la vida real.  Claro, me encantaría ser amigo de ellos y poder salir a pasear y conocernos.  Pero eso amigos, implica invertir mucho tiempo y tal parece que es el bien más escaso en estos momentos.
