By Natasha Senjanovic – Hollywood Reporter

Joe Dante returns to coming-of-age horror with the 3D film “The Hole,” which is essentially a psychological thriller imparting a lesson.

Teri Polo

Luckily, Dante and writer Mark L. Smith (“Vacancy”) never get too preachy with their message.

“The Hole” needs strong marketing to find its audience, however. Today’s adolescents, at whom the film is aimed, have grown up on more hardcore stuff and probably aren’t familiar with the director’s biggest hit, “Gremlins.” On the other hand, older Dante buffs may be turned off by a teen movie. But the ride is enjoyable, and there is enough camp, warmth and chills to make this a family film.

After their latest move around the country with their mother (Teri Polo), brothers Dane (Chris Massoglia) and Lucas (Nathan Gamble), along with their neighbor Julie (Haley Bennett), discover a bottomless pit in the basement of their new house. In reopening it, they unleash a mysterious, evil force that seems to haunt only those who have looked inside the hole.

Haley Bennett

Adults should figure out why before the kids do, as each character is forced to face his or her innermost demons. A moody teen terrified with unresolved family issues, Dane will have to protect the little brother he usually shuns, and Julie will make amends with a tragedy from the past. Gamble draws the short straw in his climax, in a sequence with a clown that never scares. Then again, a 10-year-old’s fears can only run so deep.

The young stars do fine with their material though they don’t always hit all the emotional notes. But that’s to be expected with the kind of life-changing catharses that can only happen in the movies. Massoglia looks like a young Zac Efron, if that’s not a contradiction in terms, and ably carries the film, while Bruce Dern is great in his cameo.

Chris Massoglia

The 3D is used to good effect, though maybe not enough. It’s great when we’re in the hole looking up at the characters or when a baseball is tossed in our faces, but “The Hole” would probably work just as well in 2D. The film’s finale benefits the most from the technique, in an off-kilter set straight that looks like a video game of “Alice in Wonderland.”

If you’re like me and always on the look out for a great 80’s teen movie, then I have got you covered. Because seriously, there is no greater 80’s teen movie than Teen Witch.

Yeah, yeah, The Breakfast Club is a masterpiece. As is Sixteen Candles. But here’s the problem – those movies are kind of too good. They stand up against the test of time. They have character development and semi-realistic plots. Which is fine, but not really what I’m looking for from a cheesy 80’s teen flick.

No…If I’m going to watch an 80’s movie, I want it as cheesy as possible. And Teen Witch kind of has it all. It’s set in 1989, so the clothes are reeeaaallly bad (not even sort of wearable. Everyone is in neon and stupid hats…actually, it’s a little like walking down Bedford Ave in Williamsburg). It’s a rags-to-riches story about a geeky girl who gets crazy hot and is also a witch! She gets the hottest guy in school! Also, the entire soundtrack is bad pop, worse rap, and lots and lots of saxophone.

The movie is about a young girl, Louise Miller (played by Robyn Elaine Lively), who meets a psychic and is given a magic amulet. Then, because she’s 16, she casts a spell to make herself popular. From there everything plays out exactly how you’d expect – she lands the hot guy and is happy for a while, but ultimately regrets it because she loses her one true dorky friend, and doesn’t know if Brad truly likes her, yadda, yadda. Of course everything works out, and she and Brad reunite at the big dance. Is the plot going to keep you on the edge of your seat? Um, probably not. But this movie is all about the details.

First of all, there’s this amazing scene where Brad takes Louise to this abandoned farmhouse in the middle of nowhere, then lures her up the stairs by taking off his clothes. Then they totally do it (in what must be the least romantic setting ever)! Also, this is where the saxophone kicks into crazy overdrive.

But perhaps the movie is most well known for the AMAZING rap that takes place. I mean, I have no words for this. It’s simultaneously the best and worst thing I’ve ever seen.

Oh man, it’s so incredible. How could you even need another reason to watch Teen Witch?

Infiltrons Playboy Mansion pour me dépuceler !

TRAILER STAGE !!!

iLoveMATCH = Rating 99 for Kristen Stewart & Robert Pattinson Clearly Twilight is the biggest te

iLoveMATCH = Rating 99 for Kristen Stewart & Robert Pattinson

Clearly Twilight is the biggest teen movie in the past year …and now everyone is looking forward to the next sequel “New Moon“. I was wondering why those two looked like they were not acting and how they really looked passionate in the film. Then, I just found out they were engaged. Below is a detailed overview of their relationship and how the two energies combine and what they create, using something called synastry which is astrology based. iloveastro has also come up with our own unique matching system which I will also include when analyzing.

Now unfortunately, there is no record (at least online) of the time of birth for Kristen or Robert, so this will not be perfect. But, I can definitely see a connection here!!!!

Our iloveastro matching system gives them 99 points (that is pretty high) and without some aspects because of the time we don’t have makes room for it being even higher. They have a total of 8 KARMIC LINKS and 4 of them are hard or challenging.

*After Reading this analysis, please comment back on your personal take on their relationship and give them a rating 1-10 (I would like to see what you think?)

Ok….. here is the in depth analysis your waiting for…….

This part is the analysis of the passion, energy, and sex life.

Well first of all they have Sun/Mars combination (not only once – but 2x’s)this is one of their KEY CONNECTIONS because of it being doubled. This brings power conflict but as far as sex goes well this only enhances the passionate heavy nature they have.

They have Venus/Mars in an easy aspect which is the perfect combination for love and sex and it being in an easy aspect makes them actually be able to satisfy each other sexually and make it quite easy to fall into love making and it just feeling right if not even “perfect lovers” for each other.

They have a Mars/Pluto link that could be violent and aggressive, but thankfully they have it in an easy aspect so this would also increase the passion and aggression they have but not have it come out in a violent way. Anything Pluto touches it intensifies it by 10 times over again! But here this can promote a very deep, and transforming relationship without too much overly aggressive behaviors.

Next let’s take a look at the overall purpose together and compatibility.

They have a Sun/Moon combination which is one of the MAIN aspects we look for in overall compatibility. This produces a strong and enduring bond, no matter what! This is found in most marriages that work. Now although, they have this combination in a hard aspect it’s better to have the hard aspect there then not have this aspect or link at all. The Sun symbolized the Self, or Yang or Male Ego part of ourselves, and the Moon symbolized the Female, Yin, Receptive part of ourselves. Every man and women is looking for their other half because they need to balance these energies within their selves. This is why this combination is soooo important!!!! And interesting book that talk compares actual marriages with this combination appears in Carl Jung’s book called “Synchronicity”.

They have the beautiful Sun/Venus connection which creates affection and respect toward each other.

The Sun/Saturn connection they have is one of the KARMIC ties they have. Saturn can feel like a downer sometimes. Saturn makes us feel responsible for the other person, like we owe them something. But Saturn is also like “Glue” and it makes people stay together! This is where you look to see the durability of the relationship. They happen to have this aspect in a easy aspect so this help out a lot and makes the responsibility toward each other not that heavy and easier to deal with. Here Robert plays the Saturian role, who will be the more responsible one or the teacher, the one who feels they owe something to Kristen.

They have Sun/Uranus which can cause a real need for freedom and an inability to commit and stay still but here they have ANOTHER easy aspect so it will come to them as just an exciting feeling they have for each other and the relationship.

They have a Sun/Neptune combination that is one of my personal favorites! This brings idealistic vision to the relationship and promotes spirituality. There’s just something un-earthly and beautiful about it. This combination can bring over idealism so there can be a disappointment when they find out they are human after all, but here again they have an easy aspect which will make the illusion of perfection not disastrous.

Ok finally a hard aspect, Sun/Pluto. This combination creates power struggles and manipulative goals. This relationship will be a powerful one that transforms their inner being.

Next Let’s Look At Their Ability To Communicate

Mercury/Mercury in an easy aspect would make these two able to understand and communicate with each other easily. This aspect alone can help out many arguments, and gives the ability to be able to talk it out.

Mercury/Saturn combination creates problems in communication. Usually this aspect can come off like one criticizes the others ideas. Although, it’s an inconjunct, (an inconjunct means the signs involved have NOTHING in common) this is not an easy aspect nor does it create too much energy to fix it. And in this case Kristen gets to be SATURN, she will be the one who will most likely not approve of all of Roberts ideas.

Mercury/Neptune aspects can cause the ability to communicate spiritual and idealistic ideas to one another, this aspects is DOUBLED (so this extra emphasis to this aspect)

Mercury /Pluto combination gives a deep intensity to their communication. Although, this is in a hard aspect which means that there could be some manipulative communications involved as well.

Next Let’s Look At Some of the Hard Combinations in Astrology; that can challenge the relationship hard.

The Mars/Saturn combination is called the One Foot on the Gas (MARS) while (SATURN) is looked at as One Foot on the Break. You can see just by this saying how difficult this combination could be. Kristen and Robert have an easy aspect to this combination. Thank goodness which show’s there will be an easy to moving ahead too fast and the moving will be done with caution and when it is time.

They have a Mars/Neptune connection; this creates Romantic Mystique and deceptive representation. This aspect is hard to say what way it will go because it is a conjunction which means it is in the same sign as one another. Because of the energy the conjunction creates this one can go either way and the possibility of how it is used is up to them to get the best out of it. Let’s just say there is an opportunity to make it good.

Next Let’s Look at some of the harder KARMIC links in Astrology

They have Venus Square Saturn, Venus is what we attract including love and Saturn Restricts or makes anything it touches serious. It being a square will have challenges included with it without a doubt because it is a square. But, squares are not a bad thing, if the challenge can be met. Saturn also is like glue whether it is in a good aspect or challenging.

They have a Venus/Neptune connection which creates Heavenly, or Deceptive Love. Here they have an easy aspect so they will idealize their love of one another & here it looks like Robert idealizes Kristen more.

Now there are a few more Supporting Combinations worth mentioning, even though their effects are lessoned because they do not hit any personal planets…..

Jupiter/Neptune creates Expansive ideals, and Spiritual Quests they can pursue together

Jupiter/Pluto creates Expansive Growth to the Relationship as well as Empowerment.

I usually feel torn when trying to choose movies for Victoria to watch. Here is the thing she is 10, a really young age but she no longer loves those character Disney movies she used to. Don’t get me wrong she can watch Alice in wonderland 50 times and never get bored of it, but she is changing so fast, she craves for a more realistic play.We have watched almost every Harry Potter and some other good ones. But she is the biggest fan of Jack. So, when she heard that Tim Burton was having a new movie, she was the first one in line to see it…well the 3 of us…

Now, the funny thing about this movie is that except the blue hair that Coraline (not Caroline) wears; Victoria does looks amazingly like her, she is really skinny and tall, long long legs, short hair in the back, longer on the front, they are both lefties, and her whole character…I mean, the first time we watched my husband looked at me like, what the h… and I was as shocked..well I leave you with the trailer. It’s a great movie but for older kids whom would enjoy a daily quote of sarcasm..

Today, I was bored. The summer is winding down and the anticipation of school beginning is murdering me inside. This results in every day seeming like an endless parade of nothingness. Today, though, when I woke up, I was determined to do something to entertain my demanding mind. I went to see Bandslam.

I was slightly concerned before I got to the movie, thinking the movie might end up being a horrible teeny bopper, disney knock off film. Fortunately, it wasn’t! Three words to describe Bandslam would be: light-hearted, inspiring, and quirky. The plot line follows the regular formula, but it is presented in a fresh way. The acting for the most part is decent, and I could be found many times giggling at the humor weaved throughout the movie. I will definitely buy the soundtrack.

*Partial thumbs up*

“My generation had to be taken seriously because we were stopping things and burning things. We were able to initiate change, because we had such vast numbers. We were part of the baby boom, and when we moved, everything moved with us.”

-John Hughes.

RIP John Hughes.

Before actually entering high school, having no older siblings, I really thought that high school was going to be a lot like it was depicted in John Hughes’ movies.

And in some ways, yeah, sure, it was.

But maybe not nearly enough. Though I chalk that up to the general corniness of the 80s where Hughes did his best work and literally created the model for the modern teen film that took “young adults” seriously. And at the same time let them have their world of escape.

Back in 1999, Hughes spoke to Premiere magazine about how when he first screened The Breakfast Club for Universal, the studio executives hated it. “They said, ‘Kids won’t sit through it. There’s no action. There’s no party. There’s no nudity.’ But they were missing the one really key element of teendom, and that is that it feels as good to feel bad as it does to feel good. At that age, I remember, many times, staring out the window and feeling sorry for myself. ‘The whole world is against me. Nobody understands me.’ It’s a lot of fun. One of the great wonders of that age is that your emotions are open and fresh and raw. That’s why I stuck around that genre for so long.”

I didn’t love Ferris Bueller’s Day Off like others did. Actually, I much preferred it’s 90s television update, Parker Lewis Can’t Lose, but even I have to admit there’s something essential in the fantasy epic that is the life of Ferris Bueller, with his creepy best friend (who, once he gets down to the root of his problems, will become a much more interesting person than Ferris), and his incredibly foxy girlfriend who you know just has some kind of dangerous secret lurking beneath her sexy surfaces.

No bullshit: Mia Sara (though I was pretty crazy about Jennifer Grey’s character too) didn’t create them, but she certainly perfected both the ultimate girl masturbation fantasy of my early teens but also got me set down the possibly wrong path of the Hot, Cool Girlfriend Ideal, which, you have to admit, is at least more worthy than the Manic Pixie Dream Girl, right?

Drugs?

The death of John Hughes is absolutely heartbreaking. The fact that is was via heart attack is somehow poetically right. Think about this man and his oeuvre. And then try to think of another director who’s made the same quantity of harmless mainstream hits that can not only satisfy, but satisfy repeatedly, and have had a serious penetration of the zeitgeist.

A selection of his filmography as director (either as writer, director, producer, or some combo of the three):

The Breakfast Club.

Pretty In Pink.

Some Kind Of Wonderful (the reverse Pretty In Pink).

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

Uncle Buck.

Weird Science.

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.

Curly Sue.

Home Alone.

If I had to place myself, and this is sad, I’d say that I was at the right age demographic to appreciate the first Home Alone, back in 1990, the year after Tim Burton’s Batman. How tragic is it that my first exposure to something like Weird Science – which, and let’s get this straight: I’m not claiming is a great movie, or that any of these are great by any means, but a movie of a certain kind of value – is through the USA TV show version with Vanessa Angel.

And now I live in a generation, the first of many, that won’t ever understand the appeal of someone like John Candy. With people like Chris Farley and those who may have succeeded that niche, something was diluted and lost. And will continue to be. I’m writing this post-dental surgery and earlier in the dentist’s office as I was waiting for the sadist’s gas to wear off, two of the hot nurses were actually discussing John Candy. One asked the other to name a single John Candy movie. The young woman thought for a moment and then said, “Canadian Bacon?” I was shocked that A) she actually remembered that movie of all movies, and B) that was the movie, to her, that was quintessential John Candy.

Without John Candy the John Hughes of the world are practically extinct.

The same for the Molly Ringwalds of the world. (Or pretty much the entire cast of The Breakast Club, but especially Judd Nelson.) The normal, awkward girl who could be cool. The everygirl (if you identified with her, as opposed to Ally Sheedy). And you could learn that inside every girl that you see at every high school has a whole world of tragedy and comedy and emotions and insight living inside her if you actually took five seconds out of your day to actually discover her. And if you did, you’d probably discover that she was just dying to give her panties to a geek.

And that’s where John Hughes came in, giving a voice to the often voiceless. Setting up a caste system in high school that’s imitated in almost every teen movie from then til now, from 10 Things I Hate About You to Disturbing Behavior to Mean Girls: That scene where a character has to intro us to the weird stereotypes and cliques that are absolutely “unique” to this school and this school alone. The brain/geek, the closeted Jake Ryan, the bad boy, the sportos and waistoids, the princess, the spaz and/or basket case, and he made none of them tragic nor heroic. He just made them as real as the cinema and the audience could stand.

“Hey brotha, you wanna get the mans foot off your kneck?” this Hughes brothers classic from 1995 follows the life of a young teen graduating from high school ready to face the world during a turbulant vietnam war era. Rather than getting off on a stereotypically racial standpoint the Hughes brothers focused more on the becoming of a man for young Anthony Curtis(larenz tate). The movie does a good job keeping with the 1960’s and 70’s feel, strongly due to one of the best soundtracks ever made and the simple visuals of classic cars and such. Though the filming can be summed up as average the thing that makes this movie a classic is the dialogue. DP is def the most quotably pleasing movie I have ever seen. Keith David, Chris Tucker, Bokeem Woodbine and even Therance Howard provide some of the best quotes ever. for example Kirby(keith david) has some of the most reusable quotes like “Thats y’alls muthafuckin punkass friend” and “thats uncle sam for ya, money ta boyn(<-thats not a typo thats how he says it lol) bokeem provides my favorite with the powerful”Hey doc Shut the Fuck up ya don’t know shit”and the comical chris tucker; rules one of my favorite seens with the ever so funny”now say some mo shit!! i’ll knock yo ass right back down… fake ass, wannabe preacher, no members havin muthafucka!!!!” ahahaaha oh the laughs. I love this movie hands down. If you haven’t seen it or just haven’t seen it lately… watch it, and see if you dont come away quoting somethin from it…..

this clip contains two of my favorite parts in the whole movie…enjoy

T.M.I. blog from July 2008.

In the midst of the escalating homegrown youth scare, where you can’t exit your front door without a puncture wound to a main artery. Allegedly. Historically (and without undermining the real tragedy at the core) this all-encompassing paranoia has made for classic films and imagery. Channel 4’s recent kids and weaponry season packed and pulled a few punches in equal measure.

Looking back a few decades, ‘yob’ culture was documented in such a gloriously trashy way, you can’t help but get dewy eyed for the days of Matt Dillon and company getting passionate in ‘Over The Edge’ for the survival of their youth club (the Huey Newtons of the game compared to Shabba Doo and company five years later in Breakdance 2, fighting the same cause by dancing – but Shabba did choreogaph Three 6 Mafia, so it’s all good) in America’s dullest community – New Granada. It’s not dated too badly – YouTube riddled blog entries will become obselete a lot quicker.

Apparently based on a real-life incident, reported in the newspaper article, ‘Mouse Packs: Kids on a Crime Spree’ that’s sadly, impossible to find online, it captures youthful energy and the anarchic byproduct of boredom perfectly.

And in the education system itself, 1982’s ‘Class Of 1984′ only had to look two years into the future to a world where bizarrely dressed youths carried weaponry to school and blared Fear and Teenage Head records before commiting serious assaults. Total b-movie-ism, but a banger that loses it’s shine on these shores in favour of John Hughes’ wisecracking rites of passage.

From the streets, to the educational institutions to behind bars, before Sean Penn made films where he pulled anguished faces and brooded, he was in classics like 1983’s ‘Bad Boys’ where he scuffled with the bad guy from ‘Highlander’ and fertilizer filled radios explode and kill. Note the sensationalist tone of all three trailers.

Two great surly punk-related interviews that can replace the rinsed-out Pistols on Grundy, is members of Agnostic Front, Youth Of Today and Cro Mags on ‘Donahue’ in 1986, and John Lydon and Keith Levine annoying Tom Snyder in 1980. A time before Lydon became a sneering pantomime villain, and had the bulgy-eyed delivery down to an artform.

And to this day, the papers are still demanding that young ‘hoodlums’ are scared straight. Check the footage of youths sent to a maximum security prison from the 1978 documentary ‘Scared Straight’ – with added greatness courtesy of Peter Falk. All hugely entertaining, and this self-congratulatory ‘20 years on…’ footage conveniently omits to mention that participant Angelo Speziale had gone and commited a murder a few years after filming, for which he’d be convicted in 2007. Doh!

But the realness, is the 1984 documentary ‘Streetwise’ – filmed in Seattle, following the lives of a crew of homeless kids. It’s poignant and depressing, but hasn’t been bettered and deserves an official screening beyond ten flash video chapters but it’s better than nothing.

Based, again, on an article, in this case, Life Magazine’s ‘Streets Of The Lost’ – a piece written by Cheryl McCall and photographed by Mary Ellen Clark, which led to a recently republished book, it’s harsh but briliant. And much like ‘Scared Straight’ there’s darker, unfilmed follow-up stories, like that of Roberta, who ended up a victim of the city’s Green River Killer.

Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen
★★ / ★★★★

This teen flick could’ve been satirical and I would’ve liked it a lot more. Lindsay Lohan stars as a girl who recently moves to New Jersey and craves to be the center of attention. Along the way, she meets Alison Pill, a goody-two-shoes who, through her interactions with Lohan’s character (and running around New York for a night), was able to find the confidence within herself to be different. I didn’t like the fact that this movie took the safe route way too many times. I know it’s supposed to be a teen flick but superior teen movies have a certain edge. Take “Mean Girls,” for instance. That film has the bravada to know when to push toward certain situations where the characters can truly learn something about themselves. In here, though Lohan’s character claims that she learned a handful of things by the end of the film, I didn’t believe it for one second. I still thought she was a selfish girl who tells lies on top of one another in order to feel important. There was one scene that I thought was really good: When Pill’s character finally confronted the teenage drama queen for being a brat who would rather live in a fantasy world than in reality. I like Lohan despite her personal life because she can really act. However, for me, Pill stole the show here because she has that certain sparkle in her eyes that makes me want to get to know her character more. I thought Eli Marienthal’s character was very underdeveloped considering he’s the “reality” romantic interest of Lohan. Without him, the movie would’ve been the same. Carol Kane, as the director of the play, was annoying at best. She played character with such stupidity, I don’t even know where to begin. I did see some potential in this film and I chuckled here and there. However, it’s too all over the place and soft in its core. You should see “Mean Girls” or “Heathers” instead.
