My fellow co-worker, lets call him ‘Greg’, got suspended today for not coming into work last Friday. One of his kids was sick so he stayed home. This startled me, given that Greg is never late for work and is usually among the top three sales representatives for whatever program we’re working. We always work on projects together (we’ve been named “Blackman and Robin”), and I’ve gotten to know a bit about him. While some kind of consequence is certainly mandated, sending Greg home seemed a little above and beyond, especially since he was taking care of his family, and I think my employer is going to be at a loss if he quits.

Anyway, none of that is really important in comparison to what he said before he left.

“I’m working here is so my son can go to college and not end up working here and having to put up with this very same bullshit.”

I have a college degree and I am working a job that is horribly below me. Its so horrid that my co-workers even go as far to point out that it is a dead end not worthy of a college graduate.

I probably should’ve coined in with a snarky comment about college not protecting you from telemarketing for Satan, but I was awash in contemplation and reflection.

I continue to ponder. I spent four years partying and generally dicking around, and this is what I have to show for it? I don’t mean to diminish all the friends and moments I enjoyed and enjoyed time with; I do have some priceless memories; but I know that where I am is not where I’m supposed to be. Not where I want to be. Not where I should be. I feel like I’m back at the beginning again, living with my parents, doing some shit that I hate.

Everyone is going to have to put up with bullshit at their job. I don’t like to put up with bullshit: I like to solve it. I am a capable, creative thinker with glowing attributes to spare, I assure you.

Sure, I did get pretty good grades (3.34 GPA) and graduated, which is more than what some of my peers can say. I’m still in the same boat as them though. Some shiny sheet of paper didn’t pave my way to success. Again, graduating is an achievement, not to be diminished, but its hollow and empty. It doesn’t work very well without a social network to hold you up, some successful professionals who let you ride their coattails. So much opportunity was squandered, and now I’m here, bitching about it on dial-up Internet.

Jesus Christ, I even wrote a whole blog about this in September.

Well this brought that up, and it turns out I really haven’t done anything since then. Rats.

I’m on the mailing lists for both US presidential campaigns. In the last hours leading up to election day, both campaigns are understandably reaching out to spread the message one more time. The messages have the same goal, but they’re framed quite differently.

From the Obama camp:
A heartfelt, sweeping message. A simple and moving 2-minute video: images of Obama supporters all over America. It’s a montage of people of all ages & races, smiling, volunteering, waving and cheering:

The video is carried by Obama’s ringing voice, sincerely thanking Americans for standing behind him and humbly asking them to cap it off with one last push. There’s even a gorgeous image of him speaking to a huge crowd in the rain:

From the McCain camp:
Ummm. A script to use when phoning people to convince them to vote… and a list of 10 people’s names and home phone numbers. Not kidding. McCain & Palin emailed me- and remember, I’m a stranger from another country, and I am not a registered US voter, let alone a registered Republican- but nonetheless, they emailed me a list of people’s names and their families’ home phone numbers.

Who’s to say I’m not gonna call them all night & breathe heavy into their ears? What’s to stop me from threatening or intimidating them? Way to go, McCain. Thanks to you, half the population of Ohio’s gonna be asked tonight if their refrigerators are running.

What else is there to say?

One campaign makes you feel so amazing your heart tries to pump its way out your ribcage with love.

The other begs you to do some last-minute election night drunk-dialing.

Which one would you like to see in charge?

Oh I hope I hope I hope I hope.

As much as I hate an interrupted dinner by way of odd political solicitation, inflicting the same solicitation is even less rewarding.

Within no fewer than 50 phone calls to Colorado, one of the few Western swing states, I actually talked to three voters. After announcing that I was a volunteer for Barack Obama’s “Campaign for Change” — that’s the script, like it or not — I got as far as “Campaign” before hearing a click, then a dial tone.

Of the rest, one man was already an Obama supporter, and the rest were either wrong numbers — some of those were more like “wrong numbers,” as in the times I asked if Sasha was home and Sasha said she wasn’t — or chose to let their answering machine take on the call.

We don’t leave messages in Colorado, and I think Coloradans know that.

Lundi 15 septembre prochain, Monoprix.com (à ne pas confondre avec Monoprix.fr) ouvrira son site au commerce en ligne.

Il est intéressant de savoir que les prix des articles vendus en ligne seront les mêmes qu’en magasin! Et que l’on pourra gagner des S’miles.

J’ai dores et déjà fait un petit tour sur le site pour voir ce qu’il y avait en matière de produits pour enfants. Pour les couches, comme Telemarket (même groupe et activité), il  y a les marque Huggies et Pampers mais bien qu’annoncée dans les choix possible, la marque Bout’chou brille par son absence, dommage car j’en suis fan. Heureusement les autres produits de la même marque (comme les lingettes débarbouillantes) sont elles bien disponibles. Grande surprise et bonne nouvelle, quelques jouets d’entrée de gamme sont proposés.:-)

Sinon pour les fans des magasins en ville, si vous habitez le 16è – ça y est, l’espace enfant du Monoprix rue de Passy a été refait et propose un maximum de vêtements, essentiellement de la marque Bout’chou pour les nouveau-nés jusqu’aux enfants.

Pour les produits de puériculture en revanche c’est un peu léger, je propose donc à tous nos amis parisiens qui habitent le coin de plutôt se rendre dans le 17è au Monoprix Place des Ternes, à Neuilly au Monoprix avenue Charles de Gaulle ou encore à Boulogne Billancourt au Monoprix Place Marcel Sembat pour un plus grand choix d’articles en magasin.

J’ai bien conscience que cet article ne concernera pas tous mes lecteurs, mais je pense qu’il peut aider certaines personnes hésitantes qui se posent la question : est-ce que je pourrais faire mes courses sur Internet ?

Quelle est donc la population cible des “cybermarchés”, les supermarchés en ligne ? C’est très simple : d’abord les personnes âgées ou à mobilité réduite, ou même ceux qui habitent au 5e étage sans ascenseur et qui trouvent leurs packs d’eau trop lourds (mais ces derniers ont une autre solution).

Mais il existe aussi une autre catégorie cible : les parisiens et plus généralement les citadins sans voiture ! Une voiture n’est vraiment pas nécessaire à ceux qui habitent au cœur d’une grande ville, et des déplacements en train ajoutés à quelques locations ponctuelles sont bien plus économiques que l’investissement dans une voiture + assurance + parking.

Un des problèmes qui se posent lorsque l’on n’a pas de voiture, c’est qu’on ne peux pas se rendre dans un grand centre commercial pour y remplir un caddy. Le plus souvent, ces personnes doivent se contenter de petites courses fréquentes dans des petits supermarchés de ville, qui pratiquent des tarifs plus élevés qu’en grande surface.

Ce qui fait que les courses sur Internet, même lorsque l’on paie la livraison (et on peut considérer qu’on économise sur des frais d’essence pour aller à l’hyper), peuvent vite se révéler intéressantes, car les produits sont souvent meilleurs marché qu’en bas de chez vous ! Enfin, les frais de livraisons sont souvent offerts lorsque votre facture dépasse un certain montant, que l’on peut vite atteindre.

• Houra, filiale de Cora

CRTC recently released an announcement about the new do-not-call-list.

“Telemarketers will not be allowed to call you, and as a result, you should receive fewer unsolicited calls. Calls made on behalf of organizations or made for certain purposes as listed below, are exempt from the National DNCL rules:

• registered charities;
• political parties;
• nomination contestants, leadership contestants or candidates of a political party;
• opinion polling firms or market research firms conducting surveys when the call does not involve the sale of a product or service;
• general circulation newspapers calling for the purpose of selling a subscription;
• to a consumer who has an existing business relationship with the organization; and
• to business consumers.”

Mimolette grignottée par les souris... ou par des rats?

Suite à la réception de ma commande du 31 Juillet 2007  , je tenais à vous faire part de mon profond mécontentement .

Pour la première fois , j’avais décidé de faire mes achats alimentaires en ligne . Et j’ai choisi l’enseigne Télémarket.fr un peu au hasard , mais en espérant recevoir en échange un minimum de sérieux !!

Du sérieux , j’en ai manqué   en recevant un produit au lieu d’un autre pourtant clairement écrit sur vos bons de préparation et livraison .
Bien entendu  , je n’ai pas été surprise que le produit que vous ne m’avez pas livré (fromage Chaource à 2 euros 80 ) ait été remplacé par un produit moins cher et qui ne m’intéresse pas du tout !! ( Apericube 1,90 euros)

Je dois vous dire que j’aurais préféré un remboursement si le produit n’était pas disponible plutôt que ce genre d’escroquerie !

Mais le PIRE restait à venir !!!!

S’il y a bien quelque chose auquel je n’aurais pas imaginé être confronté c’est le MANQUE D’HYGIÈNE !!!!

En effet , j’avais commandé une part de fromage (mimolette 250 grammes) .
Celle ci présentait un trou … que j’ai pris pour un choc lors des emballages et livraisons …
Sauf qu’a y regarder de plus près, j’ai pu  voir très distinctement sur le fromage des traces de DENTS DE SOURIS !!! Ou de RATS … à vous de me le dire !!

Quel genre de service offrez vous à vos clients ? Comment sont entreposés vos produits ? Dans quel état sont vos locaux ?
Ceci est tout simplement INADMISSIBLE !

A la vue d’une telle découverte , je vous assure avoir été inquiète en ouvrant mes autres cartons … Et si une souris s’était glissé dedans ?

Rendez vous compte que cela s’est produits sur des produits frais , des produits qui devraient être les mieux considérés … Qu’en est-il du reste ??

Croyez moi que ce matin , j’ai raconté mon expérience à un certain nombre de personne et je véhiculerai cette information aussi souvent que l’occasion me sera présenté  , car de telles pratiques sont DEPLORABLES .
