Bosh takes it at Marcus Camby

I’ll be honest — I watched the first quarter and a bit of tonight’s Raptors game and saw them fall behind by about 20 before deciding I’d wasted enough time. To my relief, after I checked back at 88-88 midway through the fourth, Toronto went on a 16-1 run to finish the Clippers off, making the final 104-89. At least I’ll feel alright watching Sunday knowing I can do some good.

For the second straight game, the Raptors used a second half tear to pull away, outscoring Chris Kaman & co. 59-35 over the final 24 minutes to improve to 5-4 on the season. Again, having missed much of the game, I can’t really weigh in on what the difference was, though Jack Armstrong was hyping a huge defensive turnaround in what I saw late. Marco Belinelli was also a huge factor from the second quarter forward, scoring 15 points off the bench and finishing a +25 in 28 minutes.

Chris Bosh strung together another gutty performance, finishing with 21 points, 14 rebounds and six assists. Jose Calderon continued to roll, scoring 18 on 8-of-14 and adding nine assists (and no turnovers). After getting cut by a Sebastian Telfair elbow with the Raps up two with about four minutes to go, Calderon went on a tear to close things out, finishing on a layup and dropping a three for the final dagger.

Kaman did most of the damage for the Clippers, scoring 25 and making quick work of Andrea Bargnani’s “post defense” in the first half. Bargnani had his way with Kaman on the other end though, driving and scoring a few times early and finishing with a late three to help put it away. Bargnani had 19 points on 8-of-13.

The win starts Toronto’s four-game west swing on a nice note, but it’ll get way tougher moving forward — Phoenix (8-2) is next on Sunday, followed by a back-to-back with Denver (7-3) and Utah (4-5) on Tuesday and Wednesday. I’ll be more than pleased with one of three.

There’s finally hope in LA. For the first time in many, many years, there are expectations around the Clippers. Although I’m very young, here goes something I thought I would never say in my life: the Clippers have really good players that combined form a very, very decent team + good initial pieces and salary cap to even rebuild the team in the near future.

The ping pong balls of the lottery allowed them the top overall pick in the NBA draft and they picked Blake Griffin. Griffin is the only player of his class that will cause a good impact right away because Dunleavy, incredibly, did a good job by moving Zach Randolph to the Grizzlies what open minutes and space for Blake who is expected to be one of the best rookies of all time.

The offseason in Southern California was really, really productive. It’s almost impossible to believe that Dunleavy did actually a good job in filling the spaces and getting the pieces they were missing. By moving Randolph to the Grizzlies, the Clippers got Quentin Richardson who they moved to the Timberwolves for Sebastian Telfair who comes to the run their second unit and also be kind of an insurance policy for Baron Davis, which was a great finding because Telfair will be on a better situation to perform than in Minnesota. Another underrated acquisition was Rasual Butler who comes to be their shooter out of the bullpen whom they were missing. Butler was really a bargain for them since he was traded from the New Orleans Hornets for a draft pick in 2016.

The actual great thing about the summer trades is that all those guys, even Griffin, come to be complementary pieces, not necessarily role players but they don’t come with that many individually expectations because they already have a basis figured out. If Baron Davis is able to play a decent amount of games, they have amazing Point Guard play because when Davis is healthy, he’s as good as any PG in this league. If Marcus Camby is also able to play a decent amount games, they have a Defensive Specialist whom they can base their whole defense on.

Besides everything of good that has been done, the Clippers still can’t be trusted. The reason: Mike Dunleavy. I think it’s well known that Dunleavy is an awful coach and a below average General Manager (By the way how interesting, to say the very least, if Isaiah Thomas would have accepted Dunleavy’s invitation to become the GM there? what a combo). Let’s just hope that at some point, he steps back and let those guys play.

Every single NBA hardcore fan knows that the Clippers should have won more than 19 games last season but all the injury problems with Davis and Camby killed their year, remember that one of the few times that everybody stepped on the court together, they beat the defending champions, at the time, Boston Celtics. Playing on the Western Conference where without 45 wins, you don’t anywhere near close to the playoffs, it’s tough to picture the Clippers fighting for that but they’ll definitely get more than 19 wins. For the first time in a long time, the Clippers will be a fun team to watch.

For the past two weeks, Houston has hosted the Parade of homes. It highlighted selected residential neighborhood around the Houston area.

Born ready, turned sour.

The story of Lance Stephenson is one familiar to many. A young star from Coney Island, overexposed at an early age, loses his luster when he needs it most. Stephenson has been followed since his early middle-school days and touted as the best thing to come out of New York since Stephon Marbury.

Sound familiar? It should.

The top of this story could have been used to write a feature on Sebastian Telfair six years ago. Telfair, now on the Minnesota Timberwolves, his third NBA team, recently earned the fourth-place spot in RealClearSports’ list of Top Ten Can’t Miss Prospects Who Missed. His story runs scarily parallel to Stephenson’s, only he fell victim to “the jump” from high school to the NBA. Hopefully a year (or more) in college will send this Coney Island prodigy on the right path.

The New York Post devoted a full-page feature to Stephenson in 2004– he was 13 years old. In it, he boldly stated that his goal was to be the best player in the nation, and an entire city bought into him. He even bragged about his workouts with Marbury and Telfair.

One year later he was center-stage at Adidas’ ABCD camp, the pinnacle of amateur basketball. His showdown with another prodigy, O.J. Mayo, was talked about int he basketball community for months on end.

Some might argue that he peaked there. This was all before he got to high school.

Stephenson started his high school career at Bishop Loughlin Memorial. He quicly left after his team lost in a small tournament and decided to attend Coney Island’s Lincoln, the alma mater of Marbury and Telfair. Legendary coach Dwayne Morton took the young talent under his wing and the Railsplitters went on to win consecutive state titles. Stephenson was named the Daily News Player of the Year in both of those seasons.

ESPN even decided to follow the last two years of his high school career with their online documentary “Born Ready”. They figured that they could capitalize on a player being touted as the next Lebron James. Below is an excerpt from chapter 1.

Everything looked great for New York’s latest prodigal son until it mattered most.

Stephenson was arrested this October for groping and subsequently threatening a girl. And though the charge is still pending, it puts a very large question mark on his resume and thrust him further into the limelight, but for the wrong reasons.

The last thing that Stephenson needed was more attention. His games began to be televised, and even more question marks emerged. The prospect who looked so good on paper, the kid whom everybody had hyped for the better part of a decade, had visible flaws in his game. While his stat lines remained impressive, and his game certainly was All-American calibur, Stephenson showed a severe tendency to over-dribble, only marginal quickness, and a lack of range on his jump shot. He relied heavily on size mis-matches.

To give him credit, it would be nearly impossible to live up to the hype that ESPN an New York media outlets built up for him. Even Lebron James was criticized after his first few televised games. Nonetheless, because he did show America that he was mortal, his stock dropped.

To be noted: Telfair also began to show weakness once he hit live television.

He began to fall in prospect rankings. His stronghold on a top-3 spot was no more. In most lists he has fallen out of the top ten. Obviously this still means that he is an incredible player, but not without a few weak spots.

The above question marks, coupled with an over-involved and know-it-all father, have left Stephenson in somewhat of a bind. He has chosen to wait on picking a school until his legal issues are resolved– an admirable decision. However, most coaches have already filled their rosters, and the ones who haven’t are still wavering on their desire to take a possible headache on– especially if he intends to leave after one year.

Stephenson is the only player in Scout.com and Rivals.com’s top 50 prospects to not have a college choice yet. However, there are still a few premium schools in the running.

Arizona, Kansas, Florida, Memphis, and Maryland have all declared interest. Kansas is rumored to have dropped out of contention, but Isaiah Thomas’ Florida International is supposedly making a late push. However Stephenson’s choice, much like his prospects of success at the college and professional levels, is too foggy to bother analyzing.

This is not to be read as an attack. He has proved himself to be a great player, but not without a caveat here and there. This is nothing more than the story of a young basketball phenom trying to cope with the New York media spotlight, and the drawing of parallels between Stephenson and Telfair. I wish him the best and hope that college basketball treats him well.

Grand Bay (Baie)

Grand Bay is a lively resort and a popular tourist destination situated on a picturesque horseshoe bay in the north of the island. All year round sun with temperatures varying from about 20-26 C March – November and 25 – 32 C December – February. The town is also the main departure point for trips by boat to the Northern Islands of Coin de Mire, Ile Plate and lot Gabriel. Local buses run between Port Louis (Capital) and Grand Bay every half hour during the day. Pamplemousses Botanical Gardens, near Port Louis is an unmissable day out. The gardens are one of the most visited attractions in Mauritius. Opened as a private garden by the French governor of Mauritius nearly 300 years ago, they served as a major horticultural research centre for the French and British during the colonial period. Today they are home to dozens of varieties of palm trees, as well as medicinal plants, fish ponds, and an amazing collection of Queen Victoria water lilies. Ile Au Cerf, a beautiful island located off the east coast of Mauritius, is also an easily reached from Grand Bay. The town was once a small fishing village but has now become the largest resort on the island.

Well, it looks like Stephon Marbury, cousin of Minnesota great Sebastian Telfair, might get a chance to play after all this season. After lengthy negotiations, he’s finally reached a buyout with  the Knicks, and it looks as though he’s set to catch on with Boston, as has long been rumoured. There, he’ll face his biggest challenge — trying to ruin the NBA’s best team.

Marbury, of course, is the worst seed in the history of professional sports. Check out his track record: After a nice start to his career with Tom Gugliotta and co. in Minnesota, he griped his way out of town and was traded to New Jersey, where the Nets were one of the worst teams in the league during his tenure. After being traded to Phoenix for Jason Kidd, the Nets miraculously became the best team in the East, while Phoenix went from a playoff team to a loser. After being replaced by Steve Nash in Phoenix, the Suns suddenly became relevant again. And we all know how things went in New York with Marbury.

It’ll be interesting to see the effect Marbury has on Boston. It won’t be easy, considering he’s just there to provide a spark off the bench, and will be challenged to grab minutes from the greatest point guard in the history of basketball, Rajon Rondo. Still, if he looks deep within himself, I figure he’ll find a way to screw this up. Enjoy, Celtics fans. And if you’re an intern working in Boston’s front office, be careful.

Item was received a few days later than expected. It was a single disk in shrink wrapping with thin cardboard Microsoft cover and product key. Item installed/and registered OK. Have not had any problems with it to date.

Sunday afternoon we headed downtown, the three of us, to take advantage of the beautiful weather and the free pass to the Telfair Art Museum Mary received after touring it with her class.

Established in 1875, the Telfair Academy of Arts and Sciences is the oldest public art museum in the Southeastern United States.

Nearby is Telfair’s Jepson Center for the Arts and the Owens-Thomas House Museum. We plan on visiting these the next time we have a museum outing.

Mary had a great time showing us around, playing tour guide, telling us all she had learned when she was there, usually in a hushed ‘museum’ voice, occasionally so low I couldn’t hear her even when I leaned in to listen carefully.

We were not permitted to take pictures inside the museum and I looked for some postcards showing the inside, but none were to be found here.

We had a fun milling around with the other two dozen people in the museum, examining paintings, reading about the family who once lived in this mansion and wondering what it would be like to live in the era this house was built.

There is so much to explore here.

DE NOS JOURS, AVOIR DES RELATIONS EST PLUS EFFICACE QUE DE DOMINER LES LYCÉES ET FAC’ US. VOICI QUELQU’UN DE NOS PLUS BEAUX SPÉCIMENS ACTUELS. ALORS A VOTRE AVIS, PISTON OU PAS PISTON ?

Kobe Bryant – Fils de l’ancien joueur NBA, Joe « Jellybean » Bryant :

Quoi ? Comment ça, Kobe pistonné ? Je vois déjà les fans des Lakers crier au blasphème et pourtant on pourrait se poser certaines questions. En effet, papa Kobe, Joe de son beau prénom, était lui aussi joueur dan la grande ligue. Passé de Philadelphie (ou il côtoiera Henry Bibby, le père de … Mike) à Houston en passant par San Diego, il terminera sa carrière en Italie. Grâce à Joe, Kobe parle parfaitement Italien et… c’est tout. Difficile de dire que son père ait facilité son accès en NBA. Certes, son géniteur a du lui ouvrir des portes dans la vie de tous les jours, voir dans son lycée de Lower Merion High School mais le talent de Kobe est l’unique cause de sa réussite actuelle. D’ailleurs, si nous connaissons Joe Bryant désormais, c’est plus grâce à son fils qu’à ses performances sur le terrain, du piston médiatique en quelque sorte pour « Jellybean ». Donc, non, Kobe n’a pas été pistonné. S’il est à l’heure actuelle le joueur le plus doué (et le plus fort mais là c’est une autre histoire), c’est grâce à son tempérament, ses efforts personnelles et son talent naturel. Le piston, Kobe il connaît pas. La belle vie car papa était en NBA, ça oui il connaît.

Mike Dunleavy Junior – Fils du coach des Clippers, Mike Dunleavy Senior :

Actuellement en pleine possession de ses moyens aux Pacers d’Indiana, Mike Junior connaît tout de meme une carrière NBA mouvementée. Fils de Mike Senior, ancien joueur et désormais coach des Clippers, notre protagoniste a-t-il goûté aux joies du piston ? Disons, qu’un peu comme Kobe, la notoriété de son père lui a ouvert des potes plus facilement qu’à d’autres. Mais attention, Dunleavy est un vrai joueur de basket. Sa carrière NCAA fut fabuleuse et beaucoup lui prédisait un avenir en or dans la grande ligue. Son ancien coach à Duke, Mike Krzyz… bref Coach K bordel, dit de lui qu’il fut le joueur le plus complet de Duke depuis Grant Hill, c’est dire le talent du bonhomme. Après c’est plus compliqué, un peu lent et physiquement plus proche d’Hornacek que de Malone, Mike a du mal à prendre ses marques meme s’il semble vouloir fermer quelques clapets cette saison. Même s’il ne connaît pas le succès escompté, il serait vraiment méchant de dire qu’il en est arrivé là grâce à son père. Papa a aidé en lui filant un ballon dès ses trois ans, lui a offert des petits paniers pour mettre dans sa chambre, lui a ouvert les portes des meilleurs gymnases pour qu’il s’entraîne l’Hivers mais ça s’arrête là. Mike c’est aussi énormément de talent.

Damien Wilkins – Fils de Gerald et neveux du légendaire Dom’ Wilkins :

Qui ça ? Ah le numéro 12 des Sonics, celui qui a planté 41 points contre les Hawks cette saison. Fils de Gerald, ancien pensionnaire des Knicks de la belle époque, et neveux du célébrissime Dominique Wilkins, Damien est actuellement une des bonnes surprises 2007/08. Maiiis, beaucoup doute des capacités du bonhomme. Et il y a de quoi vu les antécédents familiaux. Carrière lycéenne réalisée prêt d’Orlando en Floride, puis NCAA oblige, il passe de North Carolina State à Georgia. Damien se présente donc à la draft 2004, peu confiant à vrai dire aux vues de ses deux années de fac plutot quelconque. Bien vu, toutes les équipes le snobent et voilà que notre chère fils descendant d’une lignée de grands basketteurs se doit de passer par les summer leagues pour gagner sa place dans un roster NBA. C’est là que le piston opère. Mis sur le devant de la scène par différents journaux et sites web du fait de son nom de famille, Gerald se voit pousser des ailes avec les Sonics de Seattle. Doué mais pas transcendant non plus, il « gagne » sa place de 12^ème homme dans la rotation. Beaucoup crient au scandale et la presse s’acharne. Lui, s’en fout. Il profite de cette chance et se met au boulot. Définit comme un bosseur qui reste en salle de muscu après les entraînements et qui improvisent des séances de shoots durant ses heures libres, Damien monte lentement mais sûrement dans la hiérarchie des jeunes Sonics. Il est aujourd’hui titulaire indiscutable et tourne à 17pts et 6rbds par match. Comme quoi le piston peut avoir du bon.

Sébastien Telfair – Cousin du meilleur meneur du monde, Stephon Marbury :

Attention mesdames et messieurs, Makaveli et NBAEvolution sont fiers de vous présenter le plus grand piston du siècle. Seul A.I-3 y croit encore, et pourtant son cas est désespéré. L’homme en question est un phénomène, Telfaire, Sebastien Telfair. Cousin du meilleur meneur au monde (sic), Stephon Marbury. Pas mieux comme piston, c’est certain. Telfair c’est le « hype NBA » par définition. Le genre de joueur doué au lycée et qui détient son billet d’entrée dans la grande ligue avant tout le monde du fait de son arbre généalogique. Pour être honnête… j’admets que le garçon a du talent, mais pas le bon cependant. Sa place se situe plus chez And1 qu’en NBA. Peu concerné par le collectif de l’équipe et doté d’un QI basket proche de celui de Smush Parker (nan j’suis méchant là, on va dire proche de Gerald Green), Seb est l’un des plus gros bides du 21^ème siècle. Balancé d’équipes en équipes uniquement pour une question d’équilibrage des salaires (car aucunes équipes NBA ne veut de lui), Telfair brille plus par ses performances extra-sportives, gun en mains, plutot que sur le parquet des Wolves. L’age aidant, il se fera peut être une raison et abandonnera le basket pour l’Europe (pas sur qu’on veuille de lui là bas non plus). Parait que la team d’A.I-3 a besoin d’un meneur Sen, alors si tu nous lis, n’hésites pas. Et si t’es vraiment en galère, les Knicks veulent un nouveau meneur à la place de ton cousin…

Ne les oublions pas : Luke Walton (même situation que Dunleavy quasiment, papa est un hall of famer mais le garçon est doué), Marc Gasol (frère de Pau), Mike Bibby (Fils de Henry, ancien coéquipier du père de Kobe, mais on connaît le talent du garçon), Mike Conley Jr (Fils de l’agent de Greg Oden et père ancien champion d’athlétisme), Coby Karl (fils du Shrek des Nuggets, George Karl), les Frères Brent & Jon Barry (fils du légendaire Rick Barry), Wally Szczerbiak (fils d’une ancienne star européenne).

Scoreboard à la mi-temps

Odom confirme

La seconde mi temps a du mal à démarrer. 2 petits points en autant de minutes. Il faudra attendre un trois points à 8 mètres de Bryant pour que la situation se débloque. La suite est un festival. Pau qui dunk, Radma qui suit, Fisher qui retrouve son adresse par 2 fois et Bryant qui conclut d’un trois points avec la faute (24 points 6/15). +23, plus gros écart du match… La soirée risque d’être longue si les Wolves continue leur non performance. Seul Jefferson (17 points 8/15, 8 rebonds) tire son épingle du jeu sur des un contre un.
Le temps mort n’arrêtera pas l’ouragan Lakers qui terrasse son ancien bercail. Fisher retrouve sa patte (10 points) et Radmanovic sort de gros shoots côté faible (9 points, 4/6). A la baguette on trouve Odom, plus à l’aise que jamais dans son nouveau rôle. A 4 minutes de fin du 3ème quart, il frôle le triple double avec 7 points 9 rebonds et 8 passes. Il excelle dans le rôle de « facilator » initialement réservé à Kobe en octobre dernier.
La fin du quart temps s’achève comme elle a commencé ; un véritable highlight real. La citation de Kobe (29 points 5 passes et 5 rebonds) prend alors tout son sens. « C’est noël tous les soirs. Je me sens comme un gamin dans un grand magasin, il y tant d’options offensives… ». Lamar confirme avec un trois points au buzzer. Il est désormais à une petite passe du triple double (10 points 13 rebonds et 9 passes). 99-68 LAL

Lamar baby-sitte la seconde unit pour finir le match. Le seul challenge de ce quart temps est de tenir le score avec cette équipe sur le terrain. Sur un panier de Sasha en transition (13 points 6/10), LO obtient son 12ème triple double en carrière (10/16/10). Les systèmes sont rangés au placard ; vive le run and gun ! Après quelques balles perdues Phil demande un temps mort et remet les pendules à l’heure. Les moindres minutes du chaque match sont importantes pour travailler. Coby Karl et MBenga rentrent. Les Kids sont on their own !
Il est intéressant de voire les automatismes des remplaçant entre eux. Amis en dehors des terrains, Walton et Farmar se cherchent l’un l’autre, tandis que Vujacic reste un shooteur invétéré peu importe les circonstances (15 points, 7/12).
Pari tenu, +28 pour LAL à 2 minutes de la fin. En bricolant un peu en attaque et en improvisant en défense les remplaçants s’en sortent pas mal. Karl envoie un petit alley hoop pour Tutu. Le cinq majeur chahute sur le banc. Coby finira même avec un alley dunk (il saute le petit !!). 117-92 LAL, (Oh et pendant ce temps, Georges bloque le trade pour Kidd, did I mention that ?)
