When Too Much Is Not A Good Thing

“You can’t have too much money or be too thin.” I heard that statement often when I was growing up. Now, I am not so sure that it is true, especially if it causes us too much stress, anxiety or worry trying to achieve it. I came across a quote from Eckhart Tolle that sums it up for me. I would like to hear what you think.

“Unease, anxiety, tension, stress, worry – all forms of fear – are caused by too much future, and not enough presence. Guilt, regret, resentment, grievances, sadness, bitterness, and all forms of non-forgiveness are caused by too much past, and not enough presence.” ~Eckhart Tolle

Fear and non-forgiveness are chi/energy drainers. Not only do we feel awful when experiencing all forms of fear and non-forgiveness, we are also drained of our vital life force energy. Which contributes to our tiredness, depression, and poor health. Even though we may know it is not healthy for us to dwell in fear or non-forgiveness, sometimes we can’t stop ourselves from thinking in a fearful or non-forgiving way. That is when we must take a break , interrupt the cycle, and do something to take care of ourselves. Any of these activities will interrupt the cycle: take a walk, listen to music, take a hot bath, go to the gym, call a friend, go into nature, pray or meditate, and appreciate yourself. Start your own list of self-care activities, share them here so others may benefit too.

Pills, Poles, and Power

Finally managed to get to CVS this morning. Picked up the various supplements I take. At the advice of my doctor a few weeks ago, I stopped taking normal multivitamins, and started taking a more personalized vitamin regimen. It’s working well so far, but sweet baby Vishnu it sure is a lot of pills to take. And now I have more water bottles sitting on my desk than the C.E.O. of Poland Spring (I really am bad when it comes to actually finishing a bottle of water).

My neighborhood is getting all set up for Christmas. Every year, they put up these unsightly green wooden poles that are held up by tension wires. They attach them to buildings, other poles, pretty much whatever they can. I for one fail to see why they don’t secure the base of those poles. Seems to me that if a car ran into one, not only would it come crashing down, but it might very well bring a few other poles with it. I’m not a fan of them.

I’ve been really interested in these new wireless charging pads they came out with. I’d love to make the 15 or 16 charging cords I have for various things disappear. There’s already been talk of more powerful ones that could be built into furniture and whatnot, and would power any items on it without power cords, save the one for the desk or table. Just bam, put a lamp on the table and it’ll work. It’s funny how things you never thought you’d see – or never even imagined – can just happen before your very eyes. Technology is cool.

N’importe quelle scénarisation tente d’immerger l’utilisateur. Pour ce faire, le scénariste doit osciller entre des périodes de tension et des périodes de calme. Lorsque qu’un utilisateur-joueur est totalement immergé dans la tâche qu’il est en train d’effectuer, on parle de Flow (pour en savoir plus sur le concept de Flow je vous invite à voir le blog www.howdoyoufeel.fr).

Certains romans commencent directement par un moment de tension, plongeant ainsi le lecteur directement dans le récit, sans lui laisser le temps de prendre connaissance de l’univers. Dans un jeu vidéo, ce type d’entrée scénaristique est compliquée car l’utilisateur-joueur doit commencer par prendre en main le jeu (par un didacticiel par exemple) et également prendre connaissance de l’univers et des règles qui le régissent. Ainsi, généralement, les premières minutes de jeu commencent par une période de calme. Une fois le jeu pris en main, le joueur prend connaissance de l’intrigue principale, la quête qui retiendra son attention tout au long du jeu. C’est à ce moment que la tension monte.

Dans une scénarisation en trois actes, chaque acte débute par une période de calme, permettant au joueur de se reposer mentalement de la tension subie précédemment. Malgré tout, la quête principale ne doit pas tombé dans l’oubli et la future phase de tension reprendra au même niveau d’intensité qu’elle a été laissée par le joueur. Ainsi, a la fin de l’acte 3, on arrive au climax de l’histoire, là où la tension est à son comble. C’est après ce passage que la résolution de l’histoire se fera mais pas nécessairement entièrement afin de laisse une ouverture possible.

Pour que le joueur reste immergé dans le jeu, les passages de tensions et de calme doivent être équilibrés. Si il y a trop de tension, le joueur se fatiguera et si il n’y a pas assez de tension, le joueur se lassera. A vous donc d’imaginer votre monde selon ces principes et de trouver le bon équilibre afin de garder le joueur le plus longtemps possible dans votre univers!
