I don’t know what it is, but no other type of food puts me in a good party mood than some Mexican delicacies. Perhaps it’s the tequila, perhaps it’s the refreshing Mexican brews, or perhaps it’s the party aura of Cinco de Mayo, but the experience always seems to lighten the mood. So, on a cold and rainy Buffalo evening, Cozumel seemed like the perfect choice for a bite to eat before heading out for some Friday night festivities. Cozumel, which is on Elmwood between the “Elmwood Strip” and Allentown, sports the perfect location for a drink and some dinner before heading out. It’s a very stereotypical Mexican restaurant in decor. Walking in you notice the extreme bright (almost neon) colors as well as pictures of sombreros and tequila bottles. Again, all conducive to that party frame of mind.

After being seated, the server rattled off a long list of nightly specials and we ordered a round Dos Equis Amber, which just so happens to be my favorite Mexican beer. Its light and refreshing (like every Mexican beer) yet actually has a bit of flavor and substance to it, unlike its colored water flavored rival (cough, Corona, couch). The server brought out a basket of complimentary chips and salsa and I was pretty impressed with the salsa. Nothing that blew my mind, but a good, solid, homemade salsa.

Dos Equis, chips and salsa. Mexico's answer to Bud and Peanuts.

Since we wanted to enjoy a few adult beverages throughout the meal, we decided to prolong the experience by going with an appetizer. We decided to go with some Avocado Cakes, which was one of the specials for the night.

Avocado Cake appetizer special

Now, I love avocado. I will eat them with a spoon and some salt, in guacamole, on sandwiches, and in just about every way; but I was a bit skeptical of an avocado cake for the mere fact that the texture doesn’t seem ideal to deep fry and stay together in a cake form. However, I was pleasantly surprised when they came out. They were crisp on the outside, soft and creamy on the inside, and they came with a really tasty spicy remoulade dip. Definitely a good way to start of the meal. While we were chowing down on the cake we made our dinner choices. I went with the fish tacos and my date went with one of the specials, steak and horseradish tacos, both of which were an affordable $9.95.

Fish tacos front, steak tacos back

Both of the dishes were served with a small salad garnish and a nice sized pile of rice and beans. Basically what you would expect from a Mexican restaurant. I snuck a few bites of the steak tacos before diving into mine and they were quite tasty. The horseradish sauce was milder than I thought it should be, but noticeable. It gave a nice bite to the meat which was tender and juicy. After my pirated bites, I focused on the meal I ordered. The rice and beans were OK; they lacked a little spice and were a bit dry…but not a terrible side dish. The fish tacos were served with a creamy, spicy dip (slightly different from the remoulade from the appetizer). The fish was not over cooked, which happens often in a fish taco, and the sauce complimented the tacos well, adding a bit of spice but not overpowering the lightly seasoned interior. All in all I would say that I was pleasantly surprised by the fish tacos, which is always a good thing. After the chips & salsa, the avocado cakes ,and tacos, I was without a doubt stuffed to the brim.

I would recommend Cozumel if you are in the Mexican mood. They have a nice selection of Mexican beers, house margaritas, and an extensive menu. The food isn’t especially “authentic Mexican” but when you put well-cooked meat in a shell with some cheese and tasty sauce, how can you go wrong. It has a fun atmosphere and it’s a great place to relax over some drinks before heading out.

Cheers!

It is so weird when you stop and actually are faced with how much you have changed. I don’t know that change is a good or bad thing. I really like who I am right now but sometimes I say or do things that other people react weirdly to.

Alright, so I went on another first date. It went far better than the last couple but there were a few weird moments brought on entirely by how much I have changed in the last few years. Let me paint a picture. Two years ago my closet had two dresses in it total and tons of cheap jeans and band shirts. Now I own probably close to 100 dresses, many of which are of the strapless, mirco mini genre, designer jeans, and six inch stilettos. Yeah, things have changed.

As the converstaion was going we were talking about going out and stuff. The fact that I don’t really go out anymore came up. I worked for two years at clubs so I don’t feel much of a need to go to them currently. However, even if I hate to admit it, I have become quite the club girl. Slutty dresses, drinking impressive amounts (sometimes, I rarely drink but when i do I like lots of tequila), being able to hold a completely shallow conversation with anyone I know. It was just such a weird moment when we were talking about this and I could see that guy did not relate in any way.

I think people are kind of not sure how to look at me. Girl wearing next to nothing that can talk about comics with the best of them. A girl that reads every single night and loves English theory that can talk about pop culture to zero in. Oh and I would love to dress like Lady GaGa. Just throwing that out there. I think it would be fun. I love that I don’t really fit any mold.

However trying to date when no one can place their finger on you just makes things harder.

So over dating.

Later loves!

It’s Friday and it’s lunch time so we are here at the El Siboney Restaurant because Kim

,a waitress, at another restaurant told us that they have good food and she told us that the one thing we had to try was their chicken soup. It’s a Cuban Restaurant, more of a lunch place, all the employees speaking Spanish to each other but perfect English to the customers. Naturally the Chicken soup is the starter, loaded with chunked moist white meat with potatoes, noodles and carrots in a broth like a garbanzo bean soup (however there are no beans in this soup), it was as good as we had been told, simmered long and slow to bring out all the tender goodness. Next up, Dixie got the Ropa Vieja, tender shredded beef, marinated, seasoned, and slow cooked, this is even better than any Restaurant in Ybor City in Tampa. It comes with enough yellow rice and black beans and fried sweet plantains to fill up the hungriest human. I tried the lunch special of chicken and yellow rice, this is a HUGE plate full of delicious chicken and yellow rice and it is GOOD it arrived just warm not hot. Dixie is craving sweet so she orders the flan, it’s coated with super sweet caramalized glaze, it was the creamy finish to what was to have beeen just a light lunch for us, so much for good intentions. We are headed to the boat races now and the KW7 are at the Navy Pier The Outer Mole is what they call it. There are concessions, so they have beer and food for sale, Thank God. I’m not a big race fan, watching boats go round and round gets a little boring, if I was driving it would be a whole different story. After the final race we go to the pits where the “Stihl” Boat team has invited us for drinks, we kill a few beers and then thank them for their hospitality and its off to The Conch Republic

for Mojitos, and appetizers courtesy of Glenn and Charlene. We are getting a little tired so Dixie and I take off to the campground but stop off at Publix for a loaf of bread and some cheese for a light snack/dinner and star gazing since it is such a nice clear night. That’s it for today. See Ya Brian

It’s Saturday

I’m up early and do a 2 mile walk, write my blog and do some reviews on Anthony Bourdain contest. Dixie has been wanting to try B.O. Fish Wagon

and so we are off to eat lunch there. It doesn’t matter what side you enter from, this place is my kind of dump. It was a 8×12 food trailor that has had tin roofs added onto it until it is a menagerie of roof styles and leaks. But enough about the almost building. You wait in line, and place your order, pay cash as credit cards are not accepted, for fish, shrimp or conch sandwiches and add what ever side that you want, get a cold beer and find a table and clean it off yourself and wait for your fresh tasty fish to arrive.Today grouper(fried only) or Dolfin,we get it blackened and a side of hand cut fries. Both sandwiches served on soft loaf bread, their own homemade key lime sauce, lettuce and tomato.A hunk of grouper dusted with corn meal breading and the dolfin blackened. Nothing not to like here. If you want ambience go some place else, this place is about plain old good tasting fish and if you don’t like it they don’t care. While we are there Glenn calls up and they are back from fishing and let us know that they will pick us up for a boat ride, on the way to us the Super boat “Aquamania” flips and they are the first boat on site, as they are approaching the capsized boat they see the rescue hellicopter dropping divers to get the people out, everybody looks OK but there’s a million bucks down the drain. So they pick us up and we’re cruising around looking at all of the go fast boats in for the race and poker run. There’s a 37′ with 5 that’s right 5 -350 HP engines,

absolutley amazing. We see 2 wet people with life jackets on coming in on another rescue boat, another boat “All Jacked Up”

has flipped also. We decide to watch them pump the water out of the boats and haul them out of the water.

We head back to the condo and clean up the boat and then head back to the campground to get ready for the night out. First off we are off to the 94′ Yacht for appetizers and drinks on the boat “Judy Ann” owned by the Stihl Guy.

We get a tour of the boat by Mike and it is amazing what can be done if you have endless funds, pretty damn impressive. It’s For Sale so if any of you want it, if you win the lottery, that should be a pretty good down payment on the boat. We are off for dinner and decide on a new place called Blackfin Bistro.

It just opened 13 days ago, Some guys from NY who got together, built the tables and the bars leased the space on Duval and are now running their dream. Michael and Tommy, and Chef Tony are still workng out a few details. There are 8 of us dining on their outside garden area. We start with a few bottles of red, while we peruse the menu. A variety of appetizers-soup, goat cheese, escargot, shrimp scampi, and BLT salads quiet our immediate hunger pangs. The meals arrive with, a small timing problem, but hell we’re on vacation so who cares. Meals of fresh snapper with rice and veggies, mouth watering lamb chops with au jus and mashed potatoes, tuna and hand cut potato and asparagus, scallops with ratatouille cake and sweet potato chips, shrimp provencal, in all, a sampling of their wares. Every plate was delicious and nothing lacked in presentation. Price wise, meals are priced less than what you would expect for upscale destination food. Tommy even brought out some complimentary desserts to make up for the timing problems. These guys should do well. We hang out at The Tree Bar by Dirty Harry’s and watch the show that is Duval have a few beers and it out the door we went. See Ya Brian

i don’t generally drink tequilla. while its mostly ’cause i’m not allowed to… it is also because i don’t particularly love the taste. I whipped this up for the first time a few weeks ago just for something to do with the shot and a half of margarita mix i’ve had on the shelf since Burningman TWO YEARS ago. Now this drink isn’t amazing because i was so terribly clever to think of mixing these three things together. Its amazing because of how goddammn delicious it is. Its the kind of drink you make, set on the table, and then are surprised to see empty just a minute or two later and then you realize you’ve been sipping at it non-stop since you sat down. and then you realize you’ve had 5 of them… and then you wake up behind a quickeemart in Tuscon.

Equal parts
Patron Anejo
Pama pomegranate liqueur
Jose Cuervo golden margarita (with gran marnier)
Shake over ice
serve up
win.

I included the brands, just to capture this tastiness exactly. using Pama for the pomegranate liqueur is pretty important for this one, as this type of liqueur has a wide variety of flavors. instead of the margarita mix, one could simply use slightly more tequila, sour mix, fresh lime and a splash of gran marnier.

enjoy, and send me a post card from Arizona!

It was DMeister’s birthday party and he had a little shindig (is that how you spell “shindig?” Am I even saying it right?) at his place.

There was a lethal punch, too much tequilla (I just paused. I need a moment, even just to type the word), beer pong and a very hairy mustache.

Night was awesome…. well, what’s remembered of it anyway.

Kappie and C-Dawg were also there. I remember at the beginning of the night, C-Dawg mentioning that he couldn’t stay late because he had an assignment due… then I also remember hours later being on the same beer pong team as him.

DMeister is still man down… it’s nearly 24 hours later.

Good times.

Something rad for a Monday: http://videos.antville.org/stories/1940679/

Spokesman Steve Orlando said late last week that the university removed a link to a disaster recovery exercise, which detailed how the school could respond to an outbreak of the undead.

Orlando said officials felt the joke “didn’t really belong” on the site, which also included plans for dealing with hurricanes and pandemics.

Am I the only one who thinks this is some sort of government coverup to leave the public vulnerable to zombie attack in an elaborate plot to reduce the population of the Earth? Wake up, people! The zombie apocalypse is an inside job!!!!

Sure, you may laugh, but mathematicians have done a study on the mathematics of a hypothetical zombie attack, and published it in a book on infectious disease. The study is discussed in Episode 214 of the Skeptics Guide to the Universe podcast about 6 minutes into the show.

Ok, gata!

Asadar evitati sa-mi ziceti vreodata “in vino veritas”. Ce dracu inseamna “in vino veritas”??? Ceva de genul… in vin se afla adevarul. Zau??? Oameni buni, eu nu consum alcool, vin nici atata. Daca in vino veritas este adevarat, atunci inseamna ca eu si multi altii in momentele noastre cand avem concentratia de alcool in sange egala sau aproape egala cu zero, suntem niste mincinosi nerusinati. Deci clar… in vino, nu e nicidecum veritas. Chiar “in vino veritas” este o minciuna.

Suna adevarat fiindca e in latina… Hah!

“It’s bullshit and it’s bad for ya.”

Dear Reader, I return with another one of my crazy sex stories to share with you. There is a bar

Dear Reader,

I return with another one of my crazy sex stories to share with you.

There is a bar in this lovely town that I am currently residing in that has a special on tequila shots weekly and when it comes to tequila you either really love it or you really hate it, myself, I love tequila. I’m hanging out with a bunch of my guy friends (because for some reason there are not that many females who enjoy tequila shots as well as we do) and the guys are loving the fact that I am downing so many shots of tequila and remain standing and mainly coherent. My friend Frederick offers to walk me home but instead of heading in the direction of my apartment we wonder onto a lovely board walk. It really is quite beautiful at night and again would be quite the romantic adventure if we were more than friends. Having already gone through the scaffolding experience, we are then curious how much farther we can take it. He has his arm around my waist while I am doing my best to keep my footing in 4 inch wedged shoes after all those tequila shots (not as simple as it sounds). Out of the blue we wind up down on the ground in the middle of the path stripping off all our clothes and getting down to buisiness. Again the outdoors has gotten to me. There is just something thrilling about having sex outside where there is a great chance of being caught, I swear there is a bad girl who just keeps taking control over me. We are down on the ground in the dirt getting our thing on enjoying the craziness of the entire situation, we go through random positions of course, it would not be that much fun if it was just missionary the entire time now would it. Afterwards it is quite a time to get me back to my apartment from yes the tequila and my body not exactly wanting to move from that spot so shortly after having sex, but eventually we make it. I then begin to realize that I am missing quite a few items that I had on me when we were going through the boardwalk. Frederick goes through the entire path that we walked on to where we had our epic moment that night to find these items for me and you know what he does with them? Instead of just texting me and bringing them to my place he brings them all to work. It’s great having to get jewelery and such back from a guy infront of other staffmembers who are judging the situation with their eyes and then of course the rumours will shortly begin. My cheecks were red and I was exhausted, sex adventures at 3 am are rough when you are out till about 4:30 am and need to be at work for 7am. It was so much fun though and gave me a great story.

If I’m starting to learn something it’s that life is no fun if you don’t live it up no matter how embaracing it might wind up being it will give you lots of amazing stories that no one else can ever have.

So Readers, I leave you with the following question: have you been adventurous enough with your sex life? If not I’d recommend trying atleast once just kick back and enjoy the ride, literally

Till next time <3

I just returned from a sunny week at the lake. Of course, I brought a full bar and drink making too

I just returned from a sunny week at the lake. Of course, I brought a full bar and drink making tools. One day I made pitcher drinks for everyone on the dock. As you can see we had quite a crowd. I mix the drink base up in camp in a gallon jug then bring it to the dock in a cooler with a bag of ice and any soda to give the cocktail some bubbles. Add a straw and a garnish and you have a special camping cocktail for a large group. I don’t have pictures of the drinks, because I wasn’t thinking about the blog and because they were sucked down so fast.

Bubbley Cosmo

Juice of 7 limes
32 oz of cranberry juice
1/2 liter of Ketel One Vodka (I think Absolut Kurant Vodka would be good too.)
Ginger Ale or Diet Sprite or both
Bag of Ice

Mix first three ingredients in your pitcher. I use a large jar with a lid. Pack your cooler with the drink base and the rest of your fixen’s: cups, straws, and slices of lime. Fill your cups all the way to the top with ice, add the drink base to the 3/4 mark then top with your bubbly. I used both, ginger ale and sprite. You can’t go wrong with a pink icy drink on a hot dock.

Pitcher Mojitos
1 part lime juice
1 part Simple Syrup
1 part light Rum
Mint
Club Soda or seltzer
Bag of Ice

Muddle a big bunch of mint and throw in the jar. I used 8 limes, put the juice in the jar and then eye balled the rest of the parts. This is your drink base. Now pack your cooler with the drink base and the rest of your fixen’s: cups, straws, and slices of lime and/or sprigs of mint. Fill your cups all the way to the top with ice, add the drink base (I strain to keep the big clump of mint out) almost to the top then splash with your club soda or seltzer and garnish.

Pitcher Margaritas

1/2 can lime juice
1/2 can Simple Syrup
1 can Silver Tequilla
1/2 part Triple Sec or Cointreau
1 Corona
1 can of ginger ale
Bag of Ice

This is a great Margarita! If you don’t want to mess with the limes use a large can of limeaide instead of the lime and simple syrup. Mix this all in your pitcher. Fill your cups all the way to the top with ice and pour. Ole!

Refreshing Sparkling Orange

1 part orange juice (I squeeze mine fresh)
1 part Mandarin Orange Absolut Vodka
1/2 part Cointreau or Triple Sec
Diet sprite
Bag of Ice

Mix first three ingredients in your pitcher. I use a large jar with a lid. Pack your cooler with the drink base and the rest of your fixen’s: cups, straws, and slices of orange. Fill your cups all the way to the top with ice, add the drink base to the 3/4 mark then top with your bubbly. These are great anytime of the day.

Ryan Murphy is an assistant district attorney who likes her Tequila cold and her cops hot. With a mouth that doesn’t know quite when to stop, her attitude plays well in front of a jury, but has a tendency to tick off judges, defendants, and other attorneys alike. Battling demons from her past and checking her self-destructive streak take a back seat to her ambition, and she’s not above skating the line just a little to get what she wants. It seems her hard work is just about to pay off. If she snags a detective in the process, well, that’s just a little lagniappe for her trouble. Life should be good.

Enter a demented psycho, with a plan to ruin Ryan’s life before he ultimately kills her.

Set against the backdrop of pre-Katrina New Orleans, Gumbo Justice is the first in a series that follows the tumultuous life of prosecutor Ryan Murphy.

Which one do you suppose has been up close and personal with the seamy side of life? Castillo’s first thriller – Gumbo Justice – takes us on a wild ride into the drug scene in the Big Easy’s projects where we’re confronted with intertwined mysteries. Who is killing the defendants that assistant prosecutor Ryan Murphy failed to convict? And how is Murphy’s mysterious family history related to the killings? The plot takes more twists and turns than the old Zephyr roller coaster at Pontchartrain Beach. The final curve will blow you away, so whatever you do, do not peek at the last page. Murphy is the best hard-boiled heroine since V. I. Warshawski, but she’s smarter, tougher, and – in a piece of brilliant character development – paradoxically more vulnerable. Gumbo Justice is fast-paced and tightly woven, combining a psycho-thriller, a police procedural in a city where procedure takes a back seat to impulse, and a terrific love story – a stunning achievement.”

By Sunny Frazier, author of WHERE ANGELS FEAR and others in the Christy Bristol Mystery series“Holli Castillo has the pulse on law enforcement beyond the headlines in pre-Katrina New Orleans. Her background as a public defender lends her debut novel authenticity and a strong voice to prosecutor Ryan Murphy. Part police procedural, part legal drama, Castillo is a welcome addition to both genres.”

How do you make the best ever Margarita? I will give you a hint . . . it is NOT with a mix!!! The best Margarita is made with fresh ingredients, not artificial flavors, artificial colors and high fructose corn syrup.

Here is how I make mine.

Ingredients:

1 oz. Patron Silver Tequila (or your favorite premium blanco tequila)

1 oz. Gran Torres Orange Liqueur (or Torres Orange Liqueur, I think they changed the name and bottle to this as I cannot find Gran Torres any longer. It taste the same)

1-1/2 oz. Simple Syrup (to make simple syrup just mix 1 cup sugar with 1 cup hot water and stir until sugar has dissolved. Refrigerate afterwords)

1-1/2 oz. freshly squeezed Lime Juice

Add ingredients to a cocktail shaker filled with ice, shake, and strain into a martini glass (salt is optional) and serve!

This should be the best margarita you have ever tasted! Don’t be afraid to play around with the proportions to make it to your liking.

Let me know how yours turns out!!!

Unlike other energy drinks, her claims it will not make you “crash” or give you the “jitters.” With calcium, antioxidants and ginseng, the her formula is suppose to give you just the boost you need without over doing it.

her has a citrus taste, mixes well with most alcohols (vodka, gin, tequilla, champagne) and is pink!

There’s some marvelous recipes on the website: http://herenergy.com/recipes/. When you try her, be sure to tell marvelous girl readers what you think

I love my neighbors’ 4th of July party. They’re great folks. We have a blast. And it’s right across my yard.

But I do tend to over indulge. Too much food. Too much drinking. To many fireworks. Too long after bed time.

These are mostly people I have known for sometimes now, from just this last year for some to ten years for a few. And it’s a family party where kids run around with bubbles and hula hoops and play in the wading pool. And there’s good conversation and fun.

But I’m tired today. I would have like to sleep another many hours. At least I’m not too terribly hung over. I don’t think I’ve had that much too drink in 7 or 8 years. It’s the only party I get to go to where I don’t have to worry about driving home. The kids play so hard they fall asleep half way through the fireworks and we need only carry them home for bed.

But I’m not used to late nights and Tequilla. They happen about once a year and I’m not as crazy as I was. I really could have used to sleep in. And my kids are cranky from having so much sugar and playing so hard hours after they’re usually asleep. And we have to go to town today.

The toaster’s dead and it’s a key part of our morning routine. So I have to drag myself to motivation and prepare to go shopping with two over-partied kids. Also, I put them straight to bed still in the clothes they played in on so all the beds need washed. And I just used the last scoop of soap. Sigh. At least it wasn’t the coffee pot crapping out on me.

Por fin has empezado a vivir….”

Well, have you ever had a weekend that went just about perfect? Well this one was pretty close. The only thing that would have made it better was if RHWC was here, then it would have been perfect, but alas, she is coming in a week, just one more week, 7 days….

Anyway, I had my birthday celebration, had some people over for a party! This was my first even attempt at throwing a grown up party, I do not count all of the plop-a-keg on the deck type college parties as an adult party, even though those where some great times. I still remember my first keg stand, at a college party at my house right before I moved. Ahh memories. Anyway, back to the party. I actually went all out. I made dinner(Lemon Pepper chicken, rice, seasoned veggies, salad, ice cream cake and of course pecan pie!), had tons of beer and wine and of course, Margaritas! That was the most popular thing at the party. My blender sure did get a workout. Two bottles of Tequilla and Mixer and a large bag of ice where depleted. Everyone was having a great time. What could be better than good food, drinks and friends. I know, RHWC….

Sunday was a lazy day. Spend most of the day cleaning up after the party, sat my butt on the couch and watched Revenge of the Sith and ate the leftover Peacan Pie. Best. Sunday. Ever!

Now Im back at work, still on a sugar high, planning out what I am going to do for next week, which is going to be awesome!
