There is no point beating around the bush this is an ACTION movie for lovers of action movies.  Expect chase sequences, motorcycle sequences, plow-truck sequences, helicopter sequences, fighter-plane sequences, towering android sequences and fistfights. Don’t expect profound discussion or philosophy! This is is a futuristic war movie set in 2018. 

The last 30 minutes (or so) is fantastic - unrelenting action and a twist or two.

Critics have been harsh on this film but it is very watchable and filled with great images. Suspend your judgement and enjoy!

Que un cartel cinematográfico peque de poco original no es algo nuevo. Lo cierto es que cualquier poster te puede recordar a otro debido a su diseño. No hace mucho IP se hizo eco de algunos protagonizados por Steven Seagal. Pero si coges cualquiera de Harrison Ford, Tom Cruise o Will Smith, verás no pocas similitudes. Y sólo he puesto tres actores al azar. Ahí se suele decir que el actor o la actriz vende por sí solos. Con lo que su rostro en el cartel es de obligada inclusión. Es más, si es posible que ocupe el 75 u 80 por ciento del cartel. El resto poco importa. De ahí que no sepas de que carajo puede ir la trama, excepto porque ponen el título de la película y eso puede dar alguna que otra pista al respecto.

El de “Avatar” no es que sea precisamente una copia de “Terminator Salvation”. Y la cuarta entrega de Terminator seguro que tambien recordaría en su momento a otro cartel. La gracia, y lo que me ha llamado la atención es que en las dos sale Sam Worthington con medio rostro. Si bien en Salvation jugaban con el efecto de las sombras y el villano separándolo a él y a Christian Bale. En Avatar juegan con él y con su “avatar”. No es por ser exigente, pero me habría gustado algo más novedoso. Eso de acabar en lo fácil siempre es aburrido.

Sam Worthington is heading back to the future again.

The “Avatar” star, who recently toplined “Terminator Salvation,” is attached to star in yet another sci-fier: “The Last Days of American Crime.”

Set in the not-too-distant future, story involves the U.S. government’s plans to secretly broadcast a signal that makes it impossible for anyone to knowingly commit unlawful acts.

Based on Rick Remender’s comicbook of the same name, “Last Days of American Crime” will hit shelves next month as a bi-monthly, three-issue miniseries. Greg Tocchini illustrates.

Barry Levine, who heads up the comicbook’s publisher Radical Publishing, is producing alongside Michael Schwarz.

Worthington is currently shooting the John Madden-helmed remake of “The Debt” opposite Helen Mirren. The thesp, who toplines Warner Bros.’s epic “Clash of the Titans,” recently dropped out of the GK Films thriller “The Tourist” — in which he would have starred opposite Angelina Jolie — over creative differences. Johnny Depp is now aboard to star.

Terminator Salvation 249.- Blu-Ray, 169.- DVD

Youtube just didn’t want to upload my videos this afternoon but after some persistence, I am finally getting them put up there. In total I have 20 videos to put up so I won’t be finishing it tonight but rest assured that as long as Youtube doesn’t suck tomorrow then I should get them all up by then. I apologize for some of the cracking in a few videos, that’s not something I noticed until I had already filmed most of these and some of it was due to the loud ambient noise.

First off, Sega Racing Classic. What I like: The cabinet and the sound. If you still are fine playing the original Daytona in arcades then this shouldn’t disappoint. What I don’t like: I heard that this is just running modified Daytona code under emulation and while the higher resolution is nice, the game still looks very aged. I’m in the boat that a majority of 3D games don’t age well and next to some sleek racer it’s going to show. It also stinks that they couldn’t add more tracks to the game. Anything else: Price. Sega wasn’t revealing what the price is other than to say it would not be priced at the same level as a normal racer. After some thought I can see why they are taking this route as opposed to giving us a brand new Daytona – look at how incredibly well these re-releases do on services like XBLA. Also older games like Pac-Man/Ms. Pac-Man/Galaga are sold new by Namco and you could put this into the same category. Still, I think that a new Daytona (or Sega Racing Classic 2 as it will have to be) would do really well, judging by the response that SRC first received. Overall: Unless they are $2000 a cab (I won’t keep my hopes up) I would pass on this for my arcade. But I do not have a Daytona sitting in my location already; there also are a lot of choices for racers and I can’t say that I’m wanting to just get all the racers I could, so take that for what it’s worth.

Terminator Salvation. What I like: There was little to nitpick about this one, I liked everything about it. Graphically it fits right into the post-apocalyptic theme with just enough shine to look nice but not too much to hurt your retinas. There are a lot of robots to shoot and the game keeps the pace moving along steadily. The clip reloading feature is a nice touch that you get the hang of quickly and the force feedback is balanced well. The levels take a little bit of time to get through, which is also good in my book because there a couple of light-gun games I can think of where it seems like the levels blow by too fast. The cabinet has many details to it and the Terminator topper is just plain awesome. It plays just as well in single player as it does with two players although competing for your rank and score at the end of a mission can be fun. What I didn’t like: Not much really, the only thing I can think of is the secondary weapon button which launches your grenades. As your hand is over the clip most of the time, the grenade button can seem far away when you need it fast but where you have a 60 bullet clip, it’s usually not an issue(I suppose you could say that it’s part of the challenge balance).  Anything else: Where this is not the final build of the game they are bound to change a few things. It would be nice if there was another weapon power-up or two to add but honestly this game is on the right track to be a big hit as it’s a ton of fun and you don’t have to care about the movie at all to enjoy this. Overall: I would get this for my arcade in a heartbeat. I played it multiple times and enjoyed it every time. People will gravitate towards it based on the license alone and beyond that it’s a solid game with replay value.

Tank! Tank! Tank! What I like: I could say that I like this simply because it’s not a racer but there’s much more to it than that. It was designed as a party battle game and it is simply fun, no matter which play mode you choose. A free-for-all or team battle is slightly more fun than the “quest” but I do wonder how it would hold up with just two units as opposed to four. The avatar feature can be hilarious if you play around with it; the force feedback is excellent and quite accurate as well. It’s being billed as having motion (there is even a motion shut off button) but it feels more like in-depth feedback since the motion base doesn’t move side to side (and I’m glad it doesn’t. These motion games where you are a car on a flat street and they tilt you sideways just don’t get it). Everything can be destroyed in the levels and as your enemies fall they will drop a number of power-ups to use. The only one I didn’t like after a while was the squirt gun as it’s more of a stun weapon to be used in team play than a frontal assault cannon. At the end of the day I suppose I’m more into the highly destructive stock than in the more strategic weapons.  What I didn’t like: Other than the squirt gun thing I can only think of something from a small operator perspective and that’s the price. Now I understand that this isn’t going to be a $5000 game or anything (especially since you get two units in one and you have the motion) and it’s actually a little cheaper than some of Namco’s other dual game offerings which in the past have come close to $20,000.  Anything else: I forgot to ask this question but I hope that this one stays arcade exclusive for a long, long time (or forever, like Tokyo Wars).    Overall: I would get this for my arcade in a heartbeat as well. I also played this several times and I think I hogged my unit once or twice so I could stay on longer. Players will enjoy the sheer destruction that you can wreak throughout the game and with co-op and competitive modes it has covered the important bases.

VIDEO UPDATES WILL BE COMING LATER TODAY/TOMORROW

Well I’m back from IAAPA 2009 and it was an excellent show. I had always heard how large it was but you have to see it (and walk it) to believe it. I am going to start off with some picture updates here since that is a bit easier to get up and later I will be uploading videos to my Youtube channel. I took more video than any of the other shows I’ve been to which in part is due to the amount of content I found there.

Here we go – because this post is going to be quite large when I’m finished with it, I am going to put everything after the post break. Click on the images to see them full-size. Games to look for below: Cooking Mama, Tank! Tank! Tank!, Dead Storm Pirates, Terminator Salvation, Big Buck Hunter Open Season, Sega Racing Classic, Hummer and more.

Cooking Mama (Universal Space). I have video of this as well. It’s intended as a video redemption game for kids and it makes use of a touch screen interface that the player can use either their hands or a stylus to control. It has a very attractive cabinet that makes slick use of LEDs.

Tank! Tank! Tank! (Namco). This was certainly one of the best games of the show.  If you enjoyed Tokyo Wars even a little bit, this one is right up your alley as it’s Tokyo Wars with major upgrades. The force feedback in the wheel and the seat were done perfectly and it’s not a bad looking game either. I did ask the designers if there was any influence from Earth Defense Force 2017 but it appeared that they had never heard of the game before.Two of the designers are pictured here, they were grabbing people walking by to come and play.Tank!Tank! Tank! begins production for the US in three weeks. I did ask the designers about possible updates for this game int he future and they promised that there will be additional content released for the game at certain intervals via USB stick drives.

Dead Storm Pirates (Namco). This was unexpected and thus a pleasant surprise. While the software is only about 60% finished, what was available to play at the show felt complete and polished and overall it was a very enjoyable experience. Like Let’s Go Jungle it’s a much stronger co-op game than a single player one and the Wheel Action scenes (where you have to steer the ship around objects, etc.) were pretty cool. This game is powered by Namco’s System 357, which is based upon the PS3 and is also used in Tekken 6 and Razing Storm. The game has a heavy Pirates of the Carribean influence throughout, even the captain has a tinge of Johnny Depp to him. Probably one of the coolest sequences I played in DSP is the part where you man the cannons and you get to blast some ghost ships out of the water.

Terminator Salvation (Play Mechanix/Raw Thrills’). This is another one of my favorites from the show. I asked RT why they delay in the game between the arcade release and everything else Terminator Salvation related. They explained that they wanted to get it right (citing the terrible TS game that came out on the consoles) and was willing to take the time to do it. They also see the game attracting more attention due to the Terminator brand than the movie itself, which is a logical thought and honestly all of this pays off. The game is a lot of fun and while the build that was at the show was not complete (the game is scheduled to be finished and released in Februrary) it was excellent. They throw a lot of enemies at you and the theatrics that play out during the levels are well done. I was also pleased with how long each mission was so I expect that this will have a bit more to it by the time that it comes along in Februrary. The cabinet is very sleek and you have to see it up close to really appreciate it. TS will sell for about $9000 and it comes with a 42″ screen and large guns. The clip reloading feature is cool and it works better than I thought it would. And no, the full size Terminator robot does not come included with the cabinets.

Big Buck Hunter: Open Season (Play Mechanix/ Raw Thrills’). This is the new BBHPro update. It looks about the same but where this differs here is the content that they added to the game. It has some really cool bonus games  and uses online features similar to Big Buck Safari. I heard that some people from the LA Zoo were at the show and they were “horrified” by the Big Buck games, Safari in particular. There was a super deluxe BBS setup on the floor as well.

It’s worth mentioning that Guitar Hero Arcade isn’t done yet. There aren’t any details I can get into at the moment but the game will be seeing some updates in the near future, including the promised Coin-Up abilities and more. PUTT Championship Golf and H2Overdrive was also at the Betson booth.

Sega Racing Classic (Sega). The game that everyone’s been talking about was at the show, in a four cab setup. Sega is promising that this is going to cost less than a standard driver – they would be crazy to charge a full modern driver price, especially where this is just emulated code running on RingWide.  The Sega rep laughed when I mentioned the drive behind the RingEdge/RingWide as a console movement that’s going on the internet and denied that there are plans for Sega to do such a thing. While graphically SRC is a let down as well as the fact that they can’t add more tracks to the game, at the very least the cabinet is solid, attractive and the sound system is excellent. I even got a picture of the shifter, just for you guys.

Hummer standard (Sega). This one surprised me as it was actually a fun game with nice, shiny graphics. People were playing it every time I was at the Sega booth and it seemed to be well-liked. Production on this one starts in January. They also had the deluxe version of Hummer there with four units although for some reason only three can be linked at a time. On the other side of the Hummer Deluxe setup they had two SR3 deluxe, two Rambo deluxe, two Harley Davidson deluxe games and Tetris Giant (yes, that is what they are calling it, not Giant Tetris)

Galactix – This was a cool video redemption game where the token is essentially your controller. Put a token in and on the screen it fires a missile. Depending on the target you hit it will determine the number of points you earn. It can handle up to six players

Lobster Zone – not just for Japan!

Virtusphere was at the show. It appeared to work well although I didn’t give it a try myself.

While Stern’s booth was lackluster (they only brought one Shrek and one NBA pinball – I was hoping to see a LOTR special edition or a pre-production Big Buck Hunter) there was something notable for pinball at the show – Retro Pinball’s remake of Gottlieb’s King of Diamonds. This is going to appeal more to collectors than operators as pins from this era are something of an acquired taste but it’s cool in the respect that playing the game feels like you took a step back into the past to play one of these old games when they were brand spanking new. I do wonder if Retro Pinball will ever decide to create something original at one point but that probably depends upon how well King of Diamonds does. This game should be released in January.

Bob’s Space Racer’s midway booths – it has been a long time since I visited a big theme park and as such I tend to forget about midway style games like these. I’m also used to seeing rundown midway stuff so seeing this in new condition is impressive.

There were a lot of animatronic displays to see and this horror themed booth was one of the best. I’ll be uploading a video of this display later on

Mörkret har fallit över oss här i Sverige och vad passar inte bättre än härliga filmkvällar? Min vinter ser ut som att den kommer fyllas av en hel del sådana och en handfull (lillfingret uträknat) av de filmer som jag ser fram emot och som även snart släpps på dvd har ni här nedan.

Terminator Salvation 2009-12-09
John Connor är tillbaka och framtiden är här och Domedagen har faktiskt hänt, trots tidigare försök att stoppa den. Filmen gick upp på bio i våras och man dömde den till en av årets fetaste actionfilmer efter att de första teaserfilmerna släppts. Enligt min mening så blev det faktiskt en av årets bästa actionfilmer med grym bild och väldigt härliga och stora special effekter. Både jag och min vän var väldigt nöjda när eftertexterna passerat och filmer tråkigt nog var slut.

Det enda jag faktiskt har att komma med är att den gamla “Terminator” känslan inte fanns där. Jag kan inte sätta fingret på vad som gör en terminator-film till en terminator-film. Kanske var det avsaknaden av Arnold och hans kultklassade repliker eller känslan av se filmen där huvudpersonerna har en arg terminator i hälarna. Däremot var de båda huvudrollshavarna väldigt bra i sina roller och Christian Bale är det alltid kul att se mer av medan det ska bli väldigt intressant att se Sam Worthington i kommande filmer (Avatar, Clash of the Titans ) efter detta genombrott.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen 2009-11-18
I dagarna släpptes äntligen uppföljaren på filmen som satte en bild på uttrycket “blockbusterfilm” för mig och säkerligen många andra. Det var en av de mest actionladdade filmerna som släpptes under 2007 och för mig som tråkigt nog gick miste om Transformers i mina yngre år kom denna spelfilm som en väldigt glad överraskning. Transformers 2 är inte annat än en värdig uppföljare att bära vidare på titeln som en av de mest actionladdade filmerna på den här sidan millenniumskiftet.

De onda Decepticons är tillbaka för att ännu en gång försöka utrota människorna samtidigt som de är på jakt efter Sam Witwicky då han fått reda på en av de utgamla hemligheterna bakom Transformers ursprung. Alla skådespelarna är tillbaka ifrån förra filmen och där storyn känns lite svagare har regissören vägt upp det med häftiga actionscener (hela filmen känns som en enda) vilket gör den mer till en fröjd för ögat än för story-geeken inom mig. Ett garanterat köp då studiebidraget rullar in i slutet av månaden!

The Hangover 2009-12-09
När jag först fick höra talas om den här filmen som kändes det som att man redan sett denna sorts film flertalet gånger förut. “What Happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas” är ett klassiskt citat som passat väldigt bra på flera filmer tidigare. Dock kan jag säga att det uttrycket aldrig har passat så bra som på den här skrattattacken till film. Ett gäng grabbar åker till Vegas för att ha en svensexa för en av dem som ska gifta sig väldigt snart därpå. I ena scenen skålar de för en underbar kväll och i den andra får man se dem vakna upp i sin hotell svit som jag inte kan finna ett bättre ord att beskriva den med än kraschad. Om jag gör en lista så kommer denna scen garanterat att hamna bland topp 3 på årets mest klockrena filmscener. En kraschad hotell svit, en baby i garderoben, tiger i badrummet och en brudgum som saknas. The Hangover är årets absolut bästa skrattattack ifrån filmvärlden!

Inglorious Basterds 2009-12-18
Quentin Tarantino är tillbaka! En film som utspelar sig under det Andra Världskriget med Brad Pitt i huvudrollen i form av ledaren för en grupp judisk-amerikanska soldater som rycker fram genom det ockuperade Tyskland. Efter filmerna som Kill Bill och Deathproof så förväntar jag mig inte annat än en väldigt bra film som jag sörjer att jag faktiskt aldrig såg på bio. Det här är den film som åtminstonde jag kommer att inleda mitt jullov med.

I saw this one on Memorial Day when I was supposed to be cleaning out my car’s trunk. All those dead birds are getting cramped. (Ooops, there’s that Malaysian thing I’m not supposed to talk about.)  

The Terminator franchise is really easy to understand if you don’t try to understand it. In the first film, an evil computer named SkyNet decided that, in order to make the planet Earth all nice and peaceful, it should kill every human. Of course, humanity is nothing but annoying, and they refused to go along with SkyNet. But not at first. Oh sure, no one minded when SkyNet bought GM, and people cheered when SkyNet took over all the banks, and when SkyNet put tolls on every New York bridge and tunnel, raised the subway fare to $4.85, and made taxi riders share cabs with random lunatics people loved it, but when SkyNet tried to mulch 93% of Earth’s population to stop global warming, even Mayor Bloomberg thought that it was going too far. He had proposed to mulch only 35%.  

SkyNet sent a terminator back in time to kill the woman who would one day give birth to the leader of the resistance. Don’t ask me why. It is simpler if you don’t ask questions. This killer robot looked just like Arnold Schwarzenegger- and yes, I spelled that correctly. Don’t expect me to do it again. I could do a lot of governor jokes here, how he wielded his veto power, etc, but frankly that would be a lot of typing.  

To protect Sarah Conner, the resistance sent back a guy named Kyle Reese. His job was to keep her alive so she could give birth to John Conner, the resistance leader. In a wild plot twist that no one saw coming, unless you were watching the film, Kyle became John’s father. So in other words, John sent his buddy back in time for a booty call that would ensure John’s own birth. And somewhere along the line they crushed Arnold.  

In the next film, John Conner is a totally annoying kid. You really wanted him to die. In this film, SkyNet, using the brains of a fart, sent ANOTHER terminator back in time to kill him. Man, you’d think a super-intelligent hyper-computer would learn from its mistakes. So, d’uh, the resistance sends someone back in time to protect him. What’s the twist? This time, the terminator is a good guy sent to save John Conner. And yeah, it is played by Arnold again. Lots of stuff blows up and John Conner is saved.  

But things don’t go well, as the third film, with yet ANOTHER Arnold terminator sent back in time to kill John Conner, ends with the creation of SkyNet and the beginning of the end of humanity. A real upper, that film.  

This latest film has no suspense because it takes place before the first film. In other words, you know that SkyNet will win the big battle. You know that the resistance will go on. You know that John Conner won’t die. You know that John will find Kyle Reese. All of these things were revealed way back in the first film and are the objects of absolutely no suspense whatsoever. These are fixed, unchanged events.  

So what is this film about? The central questions are:
Will SkyNet win the big battle? YES
Will the resistance go on? YES
Will John Conner die? NO
Will John find Kyle Reese? YES  

At this point, I must caution you that my movie reviews may contain spoilers.  

The film was good, the special effects were good, and the action was good. All it missed was some gratuitous female nudity but you can’t have it all.  

I also saw the big movie blockbuster of the summer, Grease 2. Hey, I saw it one cable, that counts.

Reanimated Convict Becomes Heir To Untold Technology Riches

If you’ve ever been up really, really late at night maybe you’ve seen Jeff Paul’s informercial “Shortcuts to Internet Millions”.  You’ll know it right away due to the fact that you really don’t see all that much of Jeff himself, just the usual people playing golf, eating expensive food, lounging by swimming pools…all the hallmarks of a life of luxury.  Oh, yes, and his two perky, buxom female interviewers (Carmen Paulmbo, Stacey Hayes) who interrogate the suddenly well-to-do.  Surprisingly, they don’t seem to mind the questioning all that much. 

Poor Marcus Wright, though, will never have a chance to utilize Jeff’s scheme, no matter how well it works.  Marcus was a convict in Terminator: Salvation who donated his body to science (err, well, I guess he donated it to science fiction, like the comedian Steven Wright–no relation–said).  He wakes up with no memory and a shiny metal endoskeleton.  Skynet likes him at first–it thinks it’s his mommy–and wants to make him heir to the robot empire, but Marcus will have none of it.  All the Kristiana Lokken T-X models had already left, you see.  Anyway, after a long, drawn-out movie with a heck of a lot of yelling in it (which resembles Apocalypse Now quite a bit), the whole thing is set up for a few dozen sequels.  Marcus gets damaged, though; he might need to get some prosthetic covering from one of them there newfangled “V” type aliens.  One face-ripper to another, he could say: hey, bro, slap me some skin.

Você conhece James Cameron por seus grandes filmes, como Titanic (que arrebatou 11 estatuetas) e Terminator. Histórias totalmente diferentes mas com a grandeza dos efeitos especiais em comum. Desde 2007 ouvimos rumores sobre seu novo filme, Avatar, que agora tem data certa de estréia,18 de Dezembro de 2009 e pôster oficial, que você vê aí em cima.

O que sabemos até agora é que história se passará em um futuro em que a humanidade já conhece outros planetas e civilizações. Acompanharemos Jake, um veterano de guerra paraplégico que é enviado para o planeta Pandora, lar dos Na’vi, uma raça humanóide de quase três metros de altura, pele azulada e rabo, com sua própria língua e cultura. Não temos mais detalhes e o trailer que você vê abaixo também não ajuda muito nesse sentido.

A grande expectativa criada em torno desse filme se deve ao segredo criado  (nada vaza!) e a alta tecnologia usada. Cameron gravou por três meses com atores reais (inclusive Sigourney Weaver, a eterna Ripley, de Alien e Sam Worthington, do novo Terminator Salvation) e o restante do filme explora diversos recursos tecnológicos desde efeitos digitais até a exploração extrema de imagens em 3D. Quem esteve na Comic Con deste ano(e teve sorte de pegar um lugar no painel) pode ver 25 minutos de imagens e impressionantes cenas em 3D.

Segundo o site oficial do filme também poderemos desfrutar dessas imagens, pois no dia 21 de Agosto será exibido gratuitamente em todas as salas IMAX 3D um vídeo de 15 minutos. Nesta data também será lançado o trailer do jogo que a Ubisoft está preparando para o filme, com o nome Avatar: The Game, e a Mattel revelará os action figures dos personagens humanos e dos aliens Na’vi. O trailer do filme estará disponível também na internet em 2D e 3D. Detalhes de como serão distribuídos os ingressos ainda não foram divulgados, mas assim que tivermos essas informações atualizo este post.

Okay, forgot my password. I keep doing that. Then I remembered I have absolutely no idea how to work this WordPress stuff. I was able to choose layout on my blog last time, and I think I ended up with Hemingway, a man who went to bull-fights and cried sometimes. I only ever read one book by him, so I’m not really qualified to use him as theme, but here I am. I might change it though. Black bores me today. Maybe green. I need something cheerful. Changing now. Ahhh. That’s soothing.

So, I saw this movie today. I actually only bought it because the webshop said that if I bought enough DVD’s I could get this double-pack cheap. So I got Australia and A Good Year with Russel Crowe. Australia seems rather a snore, so I went for the Crowe-movie this grey afternoon. Gordon Gekko-type inherits a vineyard in France and finds happiness and love and bad vine. You know, the usual Ridley Scott-mess. Funny how all those directors you thought you knew turns around and make light-hearted comedies all of a sudden. Like Mike Leigh. I ordered Happy Go Lucky yesterday and if the mail-room is up their unusual standard it ought to be here tomorrow. Anyway, about this Ridley Scott-RomCom. One could say it’s the perfect date movie for those couples who doesn’t know each other and don’t want a movie that’s too much of anything. A little whimsy, some cultural clashes, sunny weather, sensual woman(but no sensual men! Only self-proclaimed assholes.), a little mystery and all about the small delights in life as it moves from money-London to old Provance. I almost turned it off after an hour. I blame Wall-E. That movie spoiled me.

* Terminator-Salvation. I am supposedly the only one looking forward to this. My local internet-store have been lowering the price all autumn, probably due to lack of bookings for this DVD. Vampires are in, but robots are out? I can’t believe that. Robots are never out! They would crush a Vampire in a fight SO easy!
