Foarte tare filmul asta. Sunt un mare fan al seriei Terminator si in opinia mea il cataloghez ca fiind unul dintre cele mai bune filme facute vreodata. Am vizionat si ultimul film si mai exact Terminator Salvation, dar la sfarsit m-am intrsitat. Mi s-a parut un pic prea dur finalul. Se presupunea ca SkyNet a picat si toata lumea era fericita, nu vad de ce nu a putut lasa regizorul treaba asa lasandu-l si pe ( tot timpul ii uit numele) tipul ala jumatate om si jumatate robot in viata.

In fine nu asta era ideea, vreau sa va prezint continoarea seriei Terminator din mai multe puncte de vedere. Luati-va o pozitie comoda si savurati.

Daca filmul ar vrea sa arate horror:

- Connor ar fi caputurat de roboti iar sediile centrale ale rezistentei cucerite. Doar cativa oameni ramasi in viata, sfarsitul pare iminent. Pana cand, la un moment dat unul dintre oameni gaseste o modalitate de a opri pentru doar 200 de secunde sistemele de procesare ale robotiilor facandu-i inactivi pentru aceasta perioada de timp. Reuseste sa-l salveze pe Connor crezut de el “ultima speranta” si impreuna cu el continua lupta pentru eliberarea celorlalti oameni.

Daca filmul ar fi romantic:

Rezistenta ataca din toate partile bazele inamice din toate corturile lumii. Robotii sunt pierduti, omenirea are sansa de a castiga. Insa Connor se indragosteste de o fata extrem de frumoasa si deasteapta care mai tarziu se dovedeste a fi 80% om si 20% robot. Acesta nu mai stie ce sa creada si e nedumerit asupra ordinul de distrugere totala a robotilor.

Daca ar fi cu tenta comica:

Robotii ataca de peste tot aliantele formate in urma distrugerii SkyNet. Robotii sunt de 10 ori mai multi decat oamenii acestora findu-le imposibil sa castige. Munitia se termina rapid, iar provizile devin din ce in ce mai putine. Situatia pare disperata. Pana cand lui Connor in vine o idee. Ca toata lumea sa se prefaca moarta. Cand robotii patrund in baze “mortii” ii iau prin surprindere si ii distrug.

Daca ar fi actiune si asta e cam cel mai plauzibil:

Rezistenta continua luptele fata de robotii din toata lumea. John Connor castiga lupta dupa lupta insa realizeaza ca desi robotii au fost infranti in cele mai multe dintre batalii inca mai au un sediu secret in care se multiplica in sute de mii de exemplare. La sfarsit Connor moare, lasand filmul intr-o aura de mister asupra viitorului.

Ein weiterer Arcade-Klassiker ist im Anmarsch: Missile Command (oder ursprünglich auch Armageddon) von Atari. Bereits 1980 erschien das Spiel und wurde sogar noch bis 2005 weiterhin auf insgesamt 24 Plattformen veröffentlicht, zuletzt auf dem Nintendo DS in einer Atari-Klassiker-Sammlung. Es erschien in der sogenannten goldenen Ära der Computer- bzw. genauer gesagt, Arcade-Spiele und gilt selbst darin als eines der erfolgreichsten überhaupt. Indiz dafür ist beispielsweise das Auftauchen im Action-Film Terminator 2 und in der Nerdserie Chuck wurde dem Spiel sogar eine ganze Folge gewidmet.

Ziel ist es Städte bzw. Raumbasen, welche am unteren Bildschirmrand auf einer Art Mond oder Planet stationiert sind, zu beschützen. Dafür stehen einem drei Abwehrraketensysteme zur Verfügung, die jedoch auf jeweils 10 Schuss begrenzt sind. Man muss pro Level also mit insgesamt 30 Raketen auskommen, um die von oben herabfallenden feindlichen Geschosse zu zerstören. Als weitere Schwierigkeit fliegen ab und zu Bomber und Satelliten über die Basis hinweg, welche ebenfalls mit Raketen ausgerüstet sind und die Stützpunkte dementsprechend angreifen. Diese Raketen gilt es mithilfe eines Fadenkreuzes anzuvisieren und zu beschießen, um die Städte bzw. die Abwehrbatterien zu beschützen. Aufgrund der Bewegung der Geschosse gestaltet sich das natürlich schwieriger, als man zuerst denken mag, aber mit etwas Übung hat man die Winkel schnell raus. Schafft man es allerdings nicht rechtzeitig einer der Raketen abzuschießen, muss man sich leider von einer Stadt bzw. Raketenbasis verabschieden und somit geht einem, zumindest bei letzterem, wertvolle Munition verloren. Am Ende eines Levels kommt der Beschuss zum Erliegen und die übrig gebliebenen Städte und Raketen werde zum Punktekonto addiert – bleibt nichts stehen, ist das Spiel vorbei. Beim Erreichen von 10.000 Punkte erhält man eine neue Stadt und dadurch auch ein Leben mehr. Jedoch bleibt auch der Schwierigkeitsgrad nicht unverändert: Die Geschosse fallen schneller herab und auch für andere Gemeinheiten ist im weiteren Verlauf gesorgt.

Im Gegensatz zur Urversion braucht man im Flashspiel nur noch mit der Maus über den Bildschirm fahren und klicken, wenn eine Abwehrrakete gezündet werden soll. Damals musste man sogar noch für die drei verschiedenen Abwehrbatterien den jeweils richtigen Knopf drücken und gesteuert wurde mit einem Trackball. Je ne suis pas plus forte qu’une autre. Je cumule plutôt les faiblesses comme on cumule les bon-points. Si je deviens masochiste en sus, j’aurai une image. Alors j’y travaille.

Je crois en pleins de choses et surtout en pleins de gens. Je crois qu’au fond je suis une femme qui aime aimer. Ne vous méprenez pas, je ne suis pas amoureuse de l’amour pour autant. Ce ne sont pas les chimères qui m’attirent, ni les chabadabadas, ni même les papillons dans le ventre, les paumes moites et l’air imbécile. Enfin quoique…

Non mon truc à moi c’est les montagnes russes, c’est de vibrer à en crier, c’est d’avoir mal tellement c’est fort, et lendemain me laisser bercer par la douceur du quotidien, c’est d’être prise par surprise, collée au mur (parfois au sens propre comme au figuré), émue, trahie aussi. Ah oui par ce que mon autre truc à moi, c’est les histoires qui finissent mal, qui font mal, enfin en amour tout au moins. Alors à chaque fois j’ai l’impression d’exploser sous l’impact, je me disloque, je me répands (parfois au propre comme au figuré – bis) et je me promets de ne plus jamais recommencer.

Et je rempile à chaque fois. Evidemment. Je ne fais pas exprès pourtant, mais je crois que c’est trop bon de violer ses principes. Le tiède a si peu de saveur. La raisonnabilité (si si ça existe) a un gout d’ennui, la prudence un gout de déprime. Moi j’aime manger épicé, avoir des sueurs, me glacer les dents, me bruler la langue ! Alors petit à petit, je recolle les morceaux. Je suis un Terminator. L’amour me jette par la fenêtre ? M’en tape. I’ll be back.

Oh évidemment ce n’est pas parce qu’on sait qu’on s’en remettra que ça fait moins mal. Je ne kiffe pas particulièrement me prendre un mur. Je pleure comme tout le monde, je chouine comme tout le monde, je dors avec mon téléphone comme tout le monde. Chaque nuit je regarde clignoter inlassablement mon Blackberry en espérant qu’il passe au rouge, preuve d’un signe, signe de lui.

Je prends mon bain avec mon kit mains libres comme tout le monde, et dois surmonter des crises existentielles quand je dois me laver les cheveux comme tout le monde. Après tout s’il choisissait d’appeler justement là ?

J’arrête de me nourrir au cas où il reviendrait, et fou en l’air 5 ans de régime parce qu’après tout il ne reviendra pas. Alors,  je reprends la diète parce que justement c’est mort, et que je ne suis pas toute seule sur le marché. Et je me rejette sur le chocolat parce que le marché moi j’en veux pas. C’est lui qu’il me fallait. La douleur est sœur de la mauvaise foi, c’est la catharsis de mes mauvais penchants.

J’envois des mails post-rupture-animal-triste, comme tout le monde. Et je cherche à pirater sa boite mail comme tout le monde pour l’effacer. Je le zappe de Facebook, je le zappe plusieurs fois, comme tout le monde. Je le bloque, le débloque pour voir s’il m’a bloquée, j’efface son numéro, retrouve son numéro. Je brule toutes nos photos comme tout le monde…

Je l’aime, je le déteste. Je m’aime, je me déteste. Après tout, il y a de grandes chances pour que ce soit moi qui l’ai quitté. J’ai mal, et je fais le dos rond. Je lèche mes blessures comme tout le monde, puis je replonge plus ou moins rapidement dans le tourbillon de la vie. Je repars avec mes bleus, mes bosses, mes casseroles dignes de la cuisine d’un 5 étoiles. Je finis même par en rigoler. Je finis même par fêter ça, avec les amis, ceux qui ne me quittent jamais, ceux que je ne plaque jamais.

Je suis prête pour une autre aventure. Enfin non pas vraiment. Comme d’habitude je décide d’y aller tout doucement, j’ai l’impression d’être une rescapée. Enfin j’ai surtout l’impression de ramer ! Et malgré tout ça, les fiascos les échecs, les virages trop abrupts, les salauds (fallait bien que je le dise), les menteurs, les lâches et les autres, je n’ai pas envie de regretter et encore moins d’oublier.

J’aime aimer. C’est peut-être finalement ma force à moi. Je suis Saint-Georges à l’assaut des Garçons, Lancelot du Lac en quête du Saint Mâle, une plume Phénix, un poil coriace, et toujours un tantinet pouffiasse. Quoi qu’il en soit j’ai déjà hâte de foncer, de repartir sur mon manège, mon grand huit, ma grande échelle…

No es la primera vez que hablamos de cine cutre en Zurcheva, y, lamentablemente para vuestras neuronas, tampoco será esta la última (adelanto una futura review de Luna Nueva y otra -que prometí hace tiempo y, malvado de mí, aún no he hecho- de Troll 2).

Al grano. ¿Qué demonios es esto de R.O.T.O.R.?

Robotic Officer Tactical Operation Research. A gusto que se quedaron.

R.O.T.O.R. es una película de 1989 dirigida, escrita y producida por el archiconocido (nótese la ironía) Cullen Blaine. Me puedo imaginar qué tenía Blaine en la mente cuando escribía el guión de R.O.T.O.R., y voy a aprovechar esto para explicar la fantabulosa historia que ésta cuenta.

Terminator mola. Terminator da pasta. Pero Terminator no lo tiene todo… me explico.

R.O.T.O.R. es un proyecto de superpolicia robot con bigote (detalle importante) creado por Coldyron (nótese el brillante juego de palabras entre Cold – frío y Yrom – Iron – Hierro), un científico-policía-karateka-cowboy-guaperas y, sin duda, carismático.

carisma. (Del lat. charisma, y este del gr. χάρισμα, de χαρίζεσθαι, agradar, hacer favores). 1. m. Especial capacidad de algunas personas para atraer o fascinar. 2. m. Coldyron

Pero R.O.T.O.R. va más allá de las cualidades de Terminator. R.O.T.O.R. sabe taichí, yoga, aerobic y, además…tiene un chasis de primera calidad (indispensable ver vídeo adjunto).

La trepidante trama arranca con Coldyron viajando en el tiempo. No, no es broma.

Tras este sorprendente viaje en el tiempo mediante el cuál nuestro intrépido protagonista ha ganado 10 minutos de sueño (tonto no es, el tío), se calza sus botas de vaquero, se empastilla (en ningún momento de la película se revela el motivo) y se prepara un café.

Un caballo bebiendo café. El listón está MUY alto.

Pero no de sólo viajar en el tiempo vive Coldyron. Nada más despertar, se toma un puñado de pastillas (no se revela el motivo en toda la película), prepara un café y se lo da a su caballo (¿?¿?¿?¿?¿?) y hace explotar arbustos con una especie de explosivo de cuerdas (¿?¿?¿¿?etc). Desde luego, la cosa promete.

¡Para qué talar un árbol si lo puedes hacer explotar!

Tras esto, Coldyron nos explica con una voz en off molona que es un científico de la leche, y que es un crack. Ah, y que ha hecho tales avances en la robótica que le cuesta distinguir entre humanos y robots.

Lo dice unos segundos antes de que aparezca ÉSTO:

Pasatiempos: ¿sabrías decir cuál de los tres es un robot?

Un robot con cuello de papel de plata y gorra de policia, tartamudo, que cuenta chistes malos y lee cómics. Ah, y junto Coldyron y un científico profundamente imbécil que pretende ser gracioso (el de la derecha de la imagen superior), es uno de los dirigentes del proyecto multimillonario R.O.T.O.R.

El día continua con una presentación del proyecto por parte de nuestro atractivo protagonista, que es la que podéis ver en el primer vídeo de este post.

Pero, de pronto, las cosas se tuercen. Si es que las cosas se pueden torcer en una película en la que los caballos beben café, los robots policias hacen aeróbic y los científicos vaqueros viajan por el tiempo.

Uno de los superiores de Coldyron, un político corrupto y malvado, intenta intimidar a nuestro héroe, inútilmente, ya que necesitan que el proyecto sea entregado en 60 días, cuando supuestamente se calculaba que no podía ser finalizado en lo menos 60 meses (o así). Diálogos interesantisimos y trascendentes en los que se introducen complejas tramas políticas.

A destacar frases cómo ” Haré más ruido que dos esqueletos haciendo el amor en un ataúd de hojalata”, “Por la misma razón por la que un perro se lame: porque puede”, “¿Te estás enterando, vaquero?”, “¿Y sabes lo que me llamó? Ciudadano desconocido. ¡Porque puede convertirme en un ciudadano desconocido en sesenta segundos!”, y un largo etc.

Después de estos momentos de espeluznante tensión, Coldyron abandona el proyecto dejándolo a manos del científico idiota y el robot de papel de plata. Pero la cosa no acaba ahí: a causa de un desafortunado accidente, R.O.T.O.R. es liberado con una única orden.

Juzgar y ejecutar.

Seit James Cameron (Terminator, Aliens, Titanic) vor vielen Jahren bekannt gab, an seinem Traumprojekt AVATAR zu arbeiten, freue ich mich auf diesen Film. Am 17. Dezember ist es endlich soweit und AVATAR stürmt die deutschen Kinos. (Übrigens zeitgleich mit Spike Jonzes WO DIE WILDEN KERLE WOHNEN… der 17.12.09 ist wohl ein cineastischer Feiertag)

Bei 60 MINUTES auf CBS gab James Cameron jetzt einen interessanten Einblick in die Arbeit an AVATAR und präsentiert auch einige neue Szenen. Alles Fans sollten sich das auf keinen Fall entgehen lassen…

There is no point beating around the bush this is an ACTION movie for lovers of action movies.  Expect chase sequences, motorcycle sequences, plow-truck sequences, helicopter sequences, fighter-plane sequences, towering android sequences and fistfights. Don’t expect profound discussion or philosophy! This is is a futuristic war movie set in 2018. 

The last 30 minutes (or so) is fantastic - unrelenting action and a twist or two.

Critics have been harsh on this film but it is very watchable and filled with great images. Suspend your judgement and enjoy!

Bulgaria, Romania and Tunisia have become Hollywood’s backyards because of low production costs, which is also an advantage for Turkish special effects makeup artists. Turkish makeup artists are popular internationally due to their high-quality work and low costs. While some work on projects abroad, some send their designs to foreign countries

Two Turkish space pilots enter a gravitational field during a routine mission and encounter aliens on a strange planet. Cüneyt Arkın, one of the two pilots, fights these unidentified aliens. Yeşilçam’s (Turkish Hollywood) first science fiction film, “Dünyayı Kurtaran Adam” (The Man Who Saves the World), made in 1982, is remembered for these scenes, effects and aliens.

Both Yeşilçam and the special effects industry in Turkey have made advancements since the 1982 film and are now opening up to the world.

Turkish prosthetic and latex special effects makeup experts, who create interesting characters out of their knowledge of anatomy, sculpture, chemistry, color and imagination, are popular not only in Turkish cinema but around the world.

The fact that films are shot in countries such as Romania, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Tunisia and Australia due to low production costs has become a particularly new opportunity for Turkish makeup designers. They are preferred for their high-quality work and low prices, and take part in projects abroad with effects such as broken arms, severed heads or fantastical creatures.

Demand from the underground causes an atelier to close shop

Arzu Yurter is a Turkish expert in the field of latex makeup design. Yurter, who is known recently after being asked to apply latex makeup to Ergenekon case witnesses, discovered the art form eight years ago. She received her education in Turkey and abroad. Working for films, commercials and photography shoots in which latex makeup is applied. Yurter is known for her work in “gothic style.”

“I can make a man a woman and a woman a man with plastic makeup. Even their father would not know them,” she said.

 Yurter said recent developments in cinema created a new sector that lets Turkish makeup artists take part in important projects abroad. “Makeup artists’ wages change between 50,000 to 200,000 euros in Europe and the U.S. according to the project. It is between 600 and 1,600 Turkish Liras weekly in Turkey. When Turkish makeup artists work for a foreign project, they earn 400 to 550 euros daily for the projects of the same quality,” she said.

 Yurter said she created plastic noses, chins, severed arms and legs for films in Korea, and also worked for many film projects in Italy, Romania and Canada as well as the Far East. She also told the Hürriyet Daily News & Economic Review about some of the interesting proposals she has received.

“I received very different proposals when my name became known for latex makeup, which was planned to be applied to Ergenekon case witnesses. Security officials visited my atelier for the project, but we did not make a contract. After hearing this, I received interesting proposals that I could never accept. Some said ‘change the face of my gunman.’ Since I became a target, it disturbed me so I had to close down my atelier,” she said.

Corci is the first name that comes to mind in the special effects makeup sector in Turkey. In his 35 years as a special effects makeup artist, his experience has been applied to many films made in foreign countries. Corci said he has received many proposals in recent years. “Bulgaria and Romania are like the backyards of Hollywood. Turkish makeup artists are preferred because they are very good and are priced low.”

Corci said demand from abroad was not limited to Bulgaria and Romania: “I get proposals from many countries to give training. I have attended many training sessions and seminars in Bulgaria and the Turkic Republics. On the other hand, there are those who come to Turkey for training. Students from Los Angeles, Canada, Iran, France and Bollywood, the heart of the cinema industry in India, come to Turkey in groups a few times a year. I teach them the details of the business.”

In the 35th year of his professional life, Corci plans to establish a new project: “I will make molds of famous faces for my new project. I am planning to take molds of nearly 35 people and want to open a museum or an exhibition to display these molds.”

Dükkan-ül Hayal, founded by Emir Özer and Zeynep Nuhoğlu in 2006, is Turkey’s only latex makeup and animatronics special effects atelier. Özer and Nuhoğlu, who can create 2-meter monsters, said latex makeup and special effects require a disciplinary effort. “Recently, we have been working with higher-cost films and directors, but latex makeup is not completely understood in Turkey. They asked us to make a Terminator in three days last week. We were excited about it, but it was not possible,” said Nuhoğlu.

She said the fact that horror and super hero films have recently done well at the box office and the revival of Turkish cinema have increased interest in special effects makeup, adding: “The opening of different special effects and latex makeup studios will develop the sector more. The younger generation, particularly shows interest in this sector. Students from Mimar Sinan and Marmara fine arts faculties work as assistants in our projects.”

Nuhoğlu said they have plans for the sector’s development: “We plan to make a film, written by Emir Özer. We will use various visual effects and latex makeup applications. We will send the film to foreign festivals and prove to the world how good the business is carried out in Turkey.”

As for interesting demands, Nuhoğlu said: “Some people call us from the Black Sea and ask us to completely change their face or make their nose smaller. We don’t accept demands like this unless it for a production, because it is unethical.”

The cost of special effects and latex makeup differs according to each project. The cost of a scene where the artist will be cut in two, the camera dimensions and lighting conditions would cost between 7,000 and 25,000 liras. The cost of face makeup is around 6,000 liras.

Synopsis: 2003. Tandis que le Jugement Dernier se rapprochait dangereusement, un condamné à mort du nom de Marcus Wright accepte de donner son corps à la science… 2018. Comme chacun le sait, le Jugement Dernier s’est produit, au grand dam de John Connor, leader prophétique de la Résistance, qui avait tout fait pour l’empêcher. Mais c’était seulement retardable… Le programme autonome de défense militaire de l’armée, Skynet, avait pris les commandes et s’employait à éradiquer sa plus grande menace: l’humanité tout entière. Ce jour du Jugement Dernier, la moitié de l’espèce humaine a été rasée par des attaques nucléaires. L’autre moitié s’est depuis organisée pour lui résister. Mais ce n’est pas le futur contre lequel Sarah Connor, la mère de John, avait mis en garde… Il n’est pas le leader incontesté, bien qu’il reste un sauveur aux yeux de nombreux résistants. De plus, la Résistance ne peut pas gagner cette guerre si ça continue ainsi. Mais une découverte pourra peut-être tous les sauver…

La saga Terminator, initiée par James Cameron, voit ici son quatrième épisode voir le jour. Point de départ d’une nouvelle trilogie, elle prend le relais après un troisième opus très sympathique mais en-deçà de ses prédécesseurs, considérés encore aujourd’hui comme des piliers du film de science-fiction. Mais que vaut cette Renaissance ?

Il est vrai qu’on pouvait s’inquiéter quant au projet, quand on voit qui le réalise… McG n’avait réalisé que deux longs-métrages plutôt quelconques, ce qui n’était pas tout à fait rassurant. Eh bien force est de reconnaitre que le bonhomme a une très bonne maitrise de la technique. Il sait manier la caméra, et pas qu’un peu, puisqu’il ouvre l’ère 2018 avec deux plans-séquences dantesques et parfaitement contrôlés ! On remarquera les effets spéciaux amplement réussis, avec des Terminator au poil et un bon matte-painting global (on fera une minute pour feu Stan Winston, le génial marionnettiste décédé durant le tournage…). ILM ne déroge pas à sa réputation de maître des FX… Côté interprétation des acteurs, c’est du bon boulot, hormis quelques hics. Premièrement, bien qu’ils s’en sortent très bien tous les deux,  j’aurais plus vu Bale interpréter le rôle de Worthington et inversement. Deuxièmement, j’ai pas trop aimé qu’on ait donné le rôle de Katerine Brewster-Connor à Bryce Dallas Howard, trop gentille pour un rôle de femme déterminée qu’on avait vue dans Terminator 3 (à ce titre, j’aurais bien revu Claire Danes…). En revanche, Anton Yelchin est vraiment une très bonne surprise, et sa ressemblance avec un personnage vu dans le premier Terminator (normal, vous comprendrez…) devrait interpeler pas mal d’entre vous… A ce titre, on appréciera les nombreux clins d’oeil faits à la première trilogie (dommage que ça ne va pas plus loin). Le scénario, bien qu’un peu faiblard et prévisible par moments, reste sympa. L’ambiance générale lorgne vers les Mad Max, ce qui peut paraitre peu fidèle à la vision Cameronique du futur. Mais comme déjà dit, ce futur n’est pas exactement le même… En bref, un très bon divertissement, mais qui reste un peu creux dans son scénario et qui n’apporte pas grand chose à l’univers.

-Réalisation: nul besoin de disserter là-dessus: techniquement parlant, McG assure ! 5/5

-Scénario: creux, mais bourré de clins d’oeil, action explosive mais l’univers n’est pas plus étoffé. 2,5/5

-Performances dramatiques: bon jeu d’acteurs global (très bon Anton Yelchin), Bryce Dallas Howard a un rôle pas taillé pour elle, et Bale et Worthington auraient du échanger… 3/5

-Doublage vocale français: du bon boulot, mais manquant peut-être un peu d’audace. 3,5/5

-Musique et bruitages: bande-son en retrait dans les musiques, bruitages efficaces. 3/5

Note globale: 17/25, soit 13,6/20.

El otro día me quedé fascinado por una serie de vídeos que sacaron (como no) en Youtube, que tratan sobre como ciertas películas y series deberían haber acabado… Son vídeos muy cortitos, pero llenos de humor, y que desde aquí os recomiendo a todos.

Se trata de cortos de animacion que no cuesta mucho hacer, por lo que, al necesitar de poco esfuerzo, se puede tener mas tiempo para dar rienda suelta a la imaginación y sacarnos una sonrisa de vez en cuando.

Se llama How Should It Have Ended, o HISHE, no hay mucho mas que decir, solo poner un par de vídeos, para mi los mejores, y recomendaros que no os la perdáis.

Terminator Salvation, the latest in the Terminator franchise which was made popular by good old Arnie.  With the massive advancement in CGI since the original one, this one has massive expectations of its visual department.  It has already been widely publicised in the media because of Christian Bale’s rant at the lighting engineer.  Personally, I can’t help think that it was staged a little and is somewhat amusing.  Be warned, it contains a lot of strong language.

Terminator Salvation shows the aftermath of Judgement Day and with it follows the fight of the human resistance and its destined leader, John Connor (Christian Bale), as they fight to save humanity and ultimately their future.  Connor is looking for a resistance civilian Kyle Reese, his father, so he can stop the machines from killing him and thus removing Connor himself from existence and leading the resistance.

When Kyle Reese find a loner form the past, Marcus Wright, wandering the streets and rescues him from the T-600, the fates of Wright and Connor are ultimately intertwined.  When Reese is taken by the machines on a journey with Wright and Wright ends up saving a resistance fighter, he is taken to a resistance base where he meets John Connor.  Wright turns out to be not quite what he seems and Connor doesn’t trust him, though as events unfold he comes to trust him, albeit a little sceptically.

Throughout the film you get a very real idea of how bad the world will be after the apocalypse, it’s all seemingly sinister, dingy and generally awful place to be; even during the daytime.  The sun shining and what would otherwise be a day with good weather you can’t help but feel massive disappointment at the abandoned cars left scattered round and the foliage over growing what remains of the buildings which were blown up back in Judgement Day.

Even with Bale calling the lighting engineer “amateur” during his rant made infamous on YouTube (see the link at the start), the lighting at the start of the movie where the resistance are on a recon mission is fantastic.  They are going into the darkness where there is a lot of smoke and steam, you do get a feeling of actually being there in amongst the heat, dirt and steam.  During the day scenes you get a feel of everything being much better than it really is and everything being fine.  Where the fuel station is blowing up before Reese is taken prisoner by Skynet there is an air of disbelief around the scene, something just doesn’t quite add up.  Everything seems too light for what is going on around, all illuminated by the sun, not so much by the abundance of flame, and not dimmed down by the scores of black smoke littering the area with the fire.  More could have been done in this respect to make it a little darker to add to the tone of the movie.

The movie is very loud with sound effects; guns shooting, Terminators clashing with their environment so there is a lot of metal on metal, metal on concrete etc. and quite a lot of explosions and steam hisses.  You get easily immersed in the action simply through the sound which complement the visuals fantastically and give you a great sense of belonging in there.  The musical score heightens the senses with sinister music playing during the times of trouble and more up-beat energetic audio during the times of the heroics.  You don’t get a sense of the music overpowering the scenes and detracting from the emotion and energy of the visuals, rather it all fits together well.

Despite there being a lot of CGI workings going on in the film, you rarely get a sense of it being unreal.  The reflections on the machines, the dirt and rust in the whole postapocalyptic world and the texture of everything which has just been standing rotting for a decade.  There are a few moments where you can see that it is clearly CGI, but because of the way the rest of the film fits together, you do question whether you have imagined it because you want it to be a little flawed.

Much of the action scenes have been made with actors in bodysuits which would later be animated with CGI to keep the sense of real interaction.  This makes all of the action have a more exciting feel to it, and not feel like it was all staged.  All of the action seems fluid and because of this you get a sense of being there, being part of the resistance.

Christian Bale gives a great performance through the film, portraying the sense of desperation he has with his mission to save his father and therefore save his own existence.  He puts across the sense of arrogance which he has a tendency to do in his action films, but also in the sense the a destined leader would also have.  As the film progresses there is the definite sense that he is slowly getting exhausted with whole adventure of his mission and destiny.

Sam Worthington plays a great part as Marcus Wright, the unlikely helper and hero who has his destiny intertwined with Bale’s John Connor.  Starting as a condemned man in 2003, he knows he is way past any help and is put to death by the penal system.  His re-emergence in 2018 shows him as the same person he was 15 years before, someone who cares a lot but always seems to get in the wrong place at the wrong time.  His presence on-screen is never overshadowed by Bale when they share the frames, rather they complement each other as two big characters who are very much a part of the same cause, despite being so different.

Kyle Reese, played by Anton Yelchin, is the little guy in all this mayhem, but is the have a go hero of someone who was probably bullied quite a lot previously, but he will stand by his convictions and fight for what he believes.  He has the persona of someone of someone who can talk about their experiences all day, but still comes across as someone who is a little naive for everything that is going on.  He plays the part well but maybe plays it a little too well for the naivety the character has from time to time.

Director McG mentions many times through the different parts of the special features of the blu-ray that he wanted things to be as real as possible, and not to have to rely on CGI where possible.  There are a lot of HUGE explosions in the film, all adding to the drama, and they do add some great effects.  He says that when things like that are real “you can see it in the whites of the actors’ eyes”, and this realism certainly comes across brilliantly in the film.  He has made something brilliant with this movie.

Whilst the film will not be to everyone’s taste, those who are fans of the Terminator franchise, or those looking for a good action film will certainly enjoy.  At just under two hours in length it is quite short for some of the films which have come out recently, and you don’t feel like it was a chore to keep watching until the end, but there are parts where you feel that they could have shortened the scene a little to have the storyline flow a little easier and in a more fluid manner, but ultimately you don’t feel disappointed by the film.

I think as part of the Terminator franchise the film is a brilliant addition, but it can also stand-alone by itself without needing to know the ins and outs which surround the series.  It lends itself to the possibility of a follow-up, but similarly could simply stop there.  Whilst I was initially apprehensive about watching it, having not seen Terminator 3, and not being that much into the original two films, I was very pleasantly surprised at how good the film was.

To quote the film, “there is no fate, only what we make” and if this is the fate of McG because of what he has made, he has put together a very good fate for himself with this movie.  To give the film its Judgement Day I rate it very highly with a 4/5, but it almost managed to push a little higher than that.

Dream 2 of this week was scribbled down, this time in my regular messy writing, not all-caps but joined and very scruffy. I also drew a little drawing to try and remember an element of me dream. A beach. It had a statue on it which looked kind of like that American Rod thing in Washington DC, or like the black towers in Digimon. Was weird. Here we go with the badly structured, written and remembered notes.

“I have special powers (levitation) when A and his sisters take me to a beach (used to be Palestinian, Serbian?) – There is a statue and I close my eyes and can levitate – either no-one sees me or cares. (Dream, Weds 18/11/09)

Then L has powers takes ring pull of can removes from inside from the side and re-attaches. - Friend talks about living with father as does unknown, quite large South Asian guy?

I, in different kind of story pass through building (dome shape) land in chair seating area – only little girl notices – I make my way somewhere. Don’t remember.

At work and watching a movie from 2 producers - a woman (looks like Lindsay Lohan but is nice / friendly) is there – I keep taking oranges from reduction and putting back in place while B does opposite. This happens twice before he explains – comes to scene where woman is naked and with a man – she explains the movie is called terminator, but rather than it being a joke she looks upset – starts crying while she is comforted by me – I feel sorry - don’t know why.”

Right. It isn’t exactly a pornographic movie but it seems to be that this woman really didn’t like seeing the movie being played seemingly in a random place on a rubbish old television with video in a supermarket. On top of this was me not being able to understand either why this whole idea existed or why it was at my work and including people I’d never thought I’d dream about.

The way it started was very different, with the superpowers. It felt so cool. What I didn’t seem to write down but remember is that we took public transport after the first part on the beach to a bridge. That’s where the discussion about father came up and where I, from the free way, levitated towards a building with quite a bit of teeth gritting difficulty to land on the side of this building which was more harsh a curve than the millennium dome but very similar. I then, with more eye closing and teeth gritting passed through it to land on a chair standing upright, only to be noticed by a single person. A little girl.

At the beach part it seemed like I knew a lot about this almost mythical history, of some different culture that had been forgotten and where this scene with the statue, also right near a bridge – albeit a lot quieter with seemingly no nearby traffic, released dormant powers in chosen people. This was another cool dream I thought would be a good adaptation to a story. But it’s not complete, the picture is bare and it seems to make little sense to me why it’s so random, jumping from about 3 to 4 different scenes and changing faces of friends and people I know while inventing about 3 new people at the same time.

I wrote a note on my phone a little bit later on, like something hit me suddenly about the dream that I had to record…

“It was night time on the tiny beach. Moon and stars were out. It was beautiful.”
