The difference between actual stopping that occurs when a continuity exhausts itself and reaches a terminus and the logical stopping that goes over what then appears its path, in order to cut it into segments separated by plottable points, is not at great as it might seem at first. The retrospective ordering enables precise operations to be inserted along the way, in anticipation of a repetition of the movement – the possibility that it will come again. If the movement does not reoccur, it can be captured. It comes to a different end.

Parables on the Virtual, 10

Here Massumi is really cool. The passage is in the context where reflexive feedback of positionality (definitionality) loops back into potential, in his story of ontogenesis. I do resist this picture of time and action, but will bracket it and allow it to travel with me. Here though is a compelling homology along the registers of terminus. There is the ending that is actual, for instance we might assume something like “death”, and there is the terminus of logical capture (which he goes onto exemplify by “space”). Both are kinds of endings. The analogy thrusts us forward onto interesting topology, but how far are we to take this (we don’t want to ontologize it into a force, I would want to say, a force of “death” or extensionality)?

If I take a Spinozist reading of these two terminal relations, the actual termination is a break down of a consistent ratio of parts in communication. The parts fall out of orbit, so to speak, they disperse. Spinoza would deny that the continuity “exhausts” itself, rather he reads it as that it has been intercepted by a stronger force (or forces), encountered a dis-ressonance, a dis-ruption. Where it gets interesting is that the definitional capture or “end” that result in the nominalization of possibility, is that any nominal relation MUST be considered as part of the environment of the actualizing ratio that is being described. In a certain sense, the living processes that are being terminated in a description (which for Spinoza are a lasting ratio of parts in communication), are not simply fed back into by those descriptions, but are also participated in, with those descriptions. When we describe, logically, this is not just a sharing of freeze-frame death, but also a lived cross-body communication and mutuality. (This is an enfleshed melding, which can really occur via affect, as much via idea.) It is for this reason that I resist the reflexive loop as essential, the stationed turn that wants to make of logic a sewing stitch.

It of course may be that Massami will move in this direction with his treatment of affect, but as a Spinozist of affect I have to say that when describing, chopping up, framing, etc, these actions themselves must be understood and affirmations of my own ontological status, and thus must be understood not simply and terminus relations in reflection. Part of this involves the radical reconsideration of what terminus is. Indeed species can become extinct, but as well they can be (or will be) re-activated through technological means. The genetic line of my body, its cells, does end in the possibilities, but also advocatable is the continuance (or permanence) of its varying combinations.

Okay Noogan, there are two things you can do tonight. Which one you choose will ultimately place your fate in stone. Both events are equally alcohol inducing, and plentiful with people, but the ultimatum is yours to decide. These two events are in no specific order, but pay close attention on how they are listed.

SRF Tenth Anniversy Party @ Midtown Music Hall

This event holds seven different acts for your listening pleasure.

The headliner DJ Faust, from California, will be preforming his amazing skills at spinning some hip hop vinyls and throwing down a good beat to get funky.

Local drum and bass artist, Era Step (warning, poorly designed Myspace page incoming) will be preforming alongside the other acts with his unique sound of dirty beats and wonky sounds.

Verstic sticking alongside the drum and bass theme, this local talent seems to stay true to his natural appearance, which I guess its sort of a conundrum from a logical stand point.

Wish, Terminus, Antares, and Rishaad cannot be found on the world wide web. Anyone have any links to their work?

21+ with $12 cover and starts at 2100 hours!

Sexy Christmas Party @ The Riverview Grande Mansion

This event will be held in mansion. (700 Mansion Circle, Chattanooga TN)

That’s awesome.

As always there is the beautiful and very talented line up presented by GhostPlayer and hosted by the infamous Joel Ruiz. Other local talents include DJ Bassel, DJ Dust, Axis 1, and Flannel Boy.

I can vouch for Flannel Boy, DJ Bassel and GhostPlayer as I’ve seen them live numerous times, but DJ Dust just doesn’t ring a bell.

Alongside all this great talent will be a SEXY CONTEST (*bites my lower lip*) which will reward you with phat loot if you win, and if not, you’re still eye candy and that’s what you’re going for right?

So which event are you going to? Got anything to add? Let me hear it.

(Thanks Mr.Doyle)

It was quite different. The whole play was done in rhyme yet wasn’t childish. Each line was thought out (writer Mark O‘Rowe) and delivered with an incredible degree of talent by Andrea Irvine, Karl Shiels and Kate Brennan.

The story was a strange one with everything from the samaratins to smarties with a demon thrown in for good measure. Even if you don’t like the story you have to respect the writer for painting such pictures and the actors for giving it form.

It’s been on before back in 2007 so there is a good chance it may be on again. I recommend you go.

http://www.spyfilms.com/

After inadvertently offending a strange entity that accosts him on his way to work, a 1970s businessman quickly finds himself in the midst if a bizarre predicament. What follows is a rapid descent into madness, a journey both eerie and darkly humorous. The exact nature of the businessman’s tormentor is purposefully ambiguous, lending itself to a variety of interpretations. Is “Terminus” a surreal critique of human alienation in the modern urban environment? or is the protagonist’s struggle an internal one, his mysterious stalker a manifestation of his repressed subconscious mind? Either way, “Terminus”’s innovative visual effects and distinctively vintage atmosphere make it a highly engrossing experience.

“Terminus”, in modern day usage, can imply either a starting or a finishing point along a fixed rout

“Terminus”, in modern day usage, can imply either a starting or a finishing point along a fixed route. In that sense, it has a circular aspect to it, i.e. each ending becomes a beginning. However, the term originally meant a boundary stone – a demarcation point where the remains of a sacrificial lamb would be buried in the ground and a marker placed on top. As it happens, both of these ways of understanding the word can be found in this dark and outlandishly contrived drama from Irish playwright and director Mark O’Rowe.

Told by way of three interlocking monologues, the play takes place over the course of a single night in Dublin city. The three plainly-dressed actors remain in the same position throughout, lit only by horizontally-placed spotlights when speaking, and without any interaction with each other. Their stories are then candidly related to the audience by way of (frequently ribald) rhyming couplets, delivered in ordinary everyday accents. They could easily be personal anecdotes casually told to you by a chance acquaintance in a bar. Except that no one who is sound of mind will ever tell you stories quite like these!

At the heart of the play is the theme of abject loneliness. All three characters make reckless but deliberate decisions in the face of it. The older woman (Andrea Irvine) beds a man that she should have stayed clear of. The younger one (Kate Brennan) follows a stranger somewhere that she should not have gone. The male character (Karl Shiels) strikes a bargain without reading the fine print. In doing so, they each set in motion a cascade of increasingly shocking and preposterous events that will have grave consequences both for themselves and for others.

Despite the menace, despair, absurdity, and graphic violence that are their chief constituent parts, O’Rowe succeeds in concluding each tale of woe with elements of both poetic justice and unconventional bliss. Equally, levity is to be found in the most disturbing of places, as exemplified by several choked-off guffaws from the audience. Moreover, there is a fine and natural lyricism to O’Rowe’s writing, which the cast conveys with real assurance here.

On the whole, Terminus could be described as raw slices of Dublin life put in a blender with American Psycho, The Divine Comedy, and Faust. If that sounds mind-boggling to you, then you would be right. An impressive and memorable show, in all.

There used to be a traffic circus at the foreground before it was converted to a signalised junction. Buses coming up from Serangoon will make a turn around the circus and terminate at the roadside marked in the photo above. Bus services which terminates here in the 1970s are 71 and 73/73A of ABS.
After the conversion to signalised junction, buses can longer make a U-turn and so the terminus was shifted to Old Upper Thomson Road near to the traffic junction. The bus parking bays are now used as carparks :

Alle wichtigen Wissenschaften haben Namen mit maximal vier Silben: Physik, Chemie, Biologie, Mathematik, Philosophie, Ökonomie, Psychologie, Ökologie, Jurisprudenz. Soziologie ist schon ein Grenzfall. Aber ‘Stupidologie’ wäre einfach eine Silbe zuviel.

Loving all things Asian, I was stoked to test out the Taro flavored frozen yogurt at Yogurberry.

Touted as a sweeter potato-ish substance, taro root has a beautiful purple flesh that lends well to a lavender colored yogurt.

purpley pleasant

Located in the semi-new Terminus building at the intersection of Piedmont and Peachtree, Yogurberry has received mixed reviews when compared to the uber-creamy Yoforia and the self-serve Yogurt Tap. Time to find out for myself.

naturally delightful, and healthy to boot

A tad sweeter than the original tart flavor, the Taro flavor had an amazingly nutty undertone. Topped with kiwi, sliced almonds, and oat bran cereal, I successfully created a yogurt sundae with a good mix of textures and tastes.

Yogurberry will also make you a parfait or a yogurt shake. I can’t wait to try them all out – in taro flavors of course. Good thing I live 30 minutes away from this place so I can pace out the visits.

Mumbai More than four years after it was constructed, the new Bandra Terminus will finally be connected to the old building. The Western Railway has decided to construct a home platform towards Bandra east linking the new building to the old one.

The New Bandra Terminus building was inaugurated on June 10, 2005. Since then a subway was the only connection between the old and new building. “This will be a facelift to Bandra terminus. After the construction of the platform, new building will be directly linked with the old one. This will allow passengers to take advantage of amenities like waiting rooms in the new building,” said a senior WR official.

CP Sharma, Divisional Railway Manager, Mumbai division, WR, said, “The work will start very soon. Besides constructing maintenance pit, work on route relay interlocking (RRI) system will also start. With RRI system, entire signalling system will be centralised. After we finish the work on Bandra yard, we will start with RRI system. This project will change Bandra terminus in a big way.”

At present, platforms 5 and 6 towards Bandra (W) are also under construction. “Seventy per cent work has been completed on these platforms. Now, platforms 2, 3 and 4 are already operational. Platform no-1, which is dysfunctional will be extended with the construction of new platform,” added Sharma.

Platform no-1 and the new platform will be extended to accommodate 24 coaches train. For extending the platforms, old building will be dismantled from south side. One-storied building will be constructed to house new booking windows there. Total cost of this project is estimated around Rs 28 crore.

5° is a poem of thirty-five interlocking parts that combines a seemingly strange set of images and subjects to form a whole. The poem takes place in a mysterious city in which it is 5°. The subjects seem totally disconnected- Houdini; John Dee, English mystic and mathematician; Paul Gauguin and Vincent Van Gogh; Nazi occupation; Persephone and the underworld; and Shakespeare’s The Tempest. Each poem could stand on its own, but when read in sequence the images of iron, exploration, nightingales, ice, stars, coins, and angels begin to connect the poems intimately. There are allegorical and fantastical elements, but I’ll leave that to the individual reader. Christopher’s writing is very accessible, which is a way of saying that he doesn’t write holier-than-thou-snotty-abstract poems that take a PhD in literature to “understand.” At the same time, he is an inventive and skilled poet. 5° is an enjoyable read that sparks the imagination.

The book also includes twenty-five lyrical and narrative poems, including one of my favorites, “Terminus.” These poems range from the reflective coming-of-age poem “The Quiñero Sisters” to a reflection on the Los Angeles riots in 1992 in “May Day, 1992.” “The Palm Reader” gives the reader a glimpse into the all-too-human life of a – wait for it – palm reader. Her husband, drinking a beer, serves lunch to the kids in the living room on paper plates. Several of these poems also contain mystical elements, which seem to be a favorite of Christopher’s. “Your Father’s Ghost” contains a taxi driver with one are, one eye, and one ear. The car only has wheels on one side. In “Bees,” each of the five stanzas give a short magical quality of bees, ending with Cellini’s statue of Medusa with bees for hair instead of snakes. The statue emitted a low hum. These poems are intelligent and well-crafted; every reader can find something valuable that he or she can take away from this collection.
