The fine folks over at Billboard Magazine have ranked the decade’s best one-hit wonders in a recent article on Billboard.com. There are some great songs included on this list. Monsters like Crazy Town’s “Butterfly,” James Blunt’s “You’re Beautiful” and Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy”. Those are in the top 10, and the rest of the list is one-hitacular. Here’s the full top 10:

Not exactly something to be proud about, but Fat Joe and his squad takes the silver medal (#1 in the urban category) of Billboard’s Top One-Hit Wonders Of The Decade. The list is made up of artists that have never surpassed their biggest hit. Now, do the Roc-away.

While other entities are naming the top albums of the decade, Billboard, the premier music chart publication, is placing Fat Joe’s Terror Squad and rapper Mims near the top of a list of their own.

The two MCs are getting recognition today however for a less than stellar accomplishment, outranking all of Hip-Hop on Billboard’s list of top one hit wonders of the decade.

Joey Crack’s Terror Squad lineage came in at a crippling #2 on the list of one hit wonders for their 2004 hit “Lean Back.” Coming in at a close fourth place is Mims whose 2007“This is Why I’m Hot” was a hot track that fizzled and died soon after.

Atlanta’s resident snap and roll home team of D4L came in at #5 for “Laffy Taffy,” while Cee-Lo’s Gnarls Barkley super duo came in at #7 for “Crazy.”

Je le craignais, je le sentais, mais je refusais de l’admettre. Or, cette fois, j’en ai la certitude. Fat Joe, l’artiste, n’est plus. Avec ce neuvième opus, le Don vient de signer son arrêt de mort. Puis après tout, il l’a bien cherché. 50 Cent l’avait prédit et pour une fois cet escroc avait raison. Rest in peace Joe Crack. Que ton âme d’artiste repose en paix. Après une série d’albums médiocres, J.O.S.E. part.2 était ta dernière cartouche, ton va-tout, mais tu n’as pas su le saisir. Mieux, tu as fais pire ! Ton ralliement avec les gros bonnets du South était vraiment une sale idée. Mais tu n’as eu que faire des critiques. Sauf que quand on est du nord comme toi, du Bronx en l’occurrence, on ne se naturalise pas ‘miamian’ comme ca. Aujourd’hui, peut être sans que tu t’en rende compte, tes fans s’égrainent, tes ventes décroissent et ta ‘street cred’ touche le fond. Pourtant, sortir une suite à ton J.O.S.E. paru en 2001 était une pensée louable. Dommage gros. A présent au fond du puits, les parois sont glissantes et il te sera très dur de remonter à la surface.

 Je ne comprends pas. Je ne comprends pas pourquoi Fat Joe s’est évertué à poursuivre dans cette vibe dirty qui lui va comme un tutu irait à Mike Tyson. Certes, Big Pun est mort ce qui a plus ou moins causé la fin du Terror Squad mais quand même, là, le deuil est lourd. Depuis Loyalty, Joe a pris des contacts à Miami et a décidé d’y faire ses classes. Comme ses nouveaux copains, Monsieur veut faire du cash, rouler en Maybach et avoir des dizaines de nanas à ses pieds. Alors pour ce faire il fait pleuvoir des liasses avec Lil Wayne, se crame un barreau de chaise avec Rick Ross et roule dans South Beach avec DJ Khaled. C’est bien… mais non ! Ce n’est ni le Fat Joe qui nous a fait rêver sur Represent, ni celui qui colorait les tracks de son accent latino sur Don Cartagena. Ce nouveau Fat Joe est apathique, fade, et presque has been. Pour ca qu’à mon sens, J.O.S.E. 2 ne mérite pas cette appellation et déshonore, par dessus le marché, le premier volet. Il n’y a guère que la fin du disque qui sauve Joe Crack de la déconvenue totale, car en plus, les charts aussi l’on blâmé. 8300 ventes en première semaine, on est à des années lumières de l’apogée du Don.

 Hormis « Ice Cream » (feat. Raekwon et TA) sauvé par la production de T-Weed et la « Music » jouée par Infamous et Slick, c’est faible, vilain et inintéressant. Le single censé promouvoir l’album, « One », n’a dénoté aucun impact sur le public vu les chiffres de vente, et on comprend pourquoi en l’écoutant. On en arrive à attendre le refrain d’Akon avec impatience tellement les couplets sont chiants et désespérants ! Et même si « Joe Don’t Do It », le deuxième extrait, est mieux car plus street, ce n’est qu’un ersatz de réussite.

Alors bien sûr on a droit à des tartines d’auto-tune comme sur ce « Winding On Me » (feat. Lil Wayne et Ron Browz) qui suffirait à lui seul à faire vomir un régiment entier, ou sur l’infecte « Aloha ». Mais c’est bien quand Lil Kim joue les « Porn Star » que la médiocrité atteint des sommets. De même, je déconseille une écoute abusive de « Put Ya In Da Game » si vous êtes sujet aux gastroentérites où que vous êtes T-Painophobe.

 Bien aimablement, Fat Joe nous a gardé le meilleur pour la fin. Et pour une fois, ce n’est pas ironique. On note une once de mieux sur « Congratulations » même si, de nouveau, c’est l’instrumental funky d’Eric Hudson qui rattrape le coup. Comme dit précédemment, « Ice Cream » est à classer dans la catégorie ‘correct’. « Okay Okay », plus sombre, est pas mal non plus, quant à « Blackout », c’est étrange. Swizz Beatz a pondu là un drôle d’instru. Tantôt ca tue, tantôt c’est nullissime. Tout dépend de l’humeur du moment (mais la plupart du temps c’est dégueu…). En somme, seul un morceau, le dernier, est vraiment bon : « Music » feat. Cherlise. On en restera là, je crois que c’est préférable.  

 Je pense avoir suffisamment explicité sur ce neuvième album du Gros Joe. C’est pas bon, pas bon du tout même. Pour nous, mais surtout pour lui. Car nous, ce n’est pas bien grave, on pourra toujours aller se consoler ailleurs. Tandis que lui file un mauvais coton. 11000 exemplaires écoulés après deux semaines dans les bacs, une sortie illico presto du top 10 des meilleures ventes et aucun buzz pour ce J.O.S.E. 2, les temps sont (très) durs. Qualitativement, Fat Joe est en constante régression depuis Loyalty, on va dire. Cet opus ci devait lui redonner un coup de fouet alors qu’au lieu de cela, il risque de se recevoir un coup de massue sur la tête. Cette situation me fait subitement penser à celle de LL Cool J : plus d’inspiration, plus de hargne, plus d’envie croirait-on, ou tout simplement plus dans le coup. La carrière de Fat Joe semble scellée, son avenir se regardera désormais dans le rétroviseur. C’est triste à dire, mais toutes les bonnes choses ont une fin. Sale temps pour les gros !

One of Fat Joe’s affiliates passed away this weekend after a lethal shooting in New York. Mike Beck, a member of Terror Squad’s K.A.R. collective, was shot and killed Friday in Brooklyn. According to reports, the motive for the senseless violence was attempted robbery.

Fat Joe confirmed the death of his friend via his Twitter page saying,

“RIP Mike Beck!!!!”

Noreaga also confirmed Beck’s passing saying,

“Rest in peace. He was a real dude, Mike Beck. I did records for him n he ate in my crib, n drank too. fucked up my weekend. R.I.P. Rest in peace Mike Beck, our running challenge is now dedicated to his memory.”

Mike Beck was featured on several Terror Squad projects and released mixtapes with his “Kill All Rats” family of Onez, Rob Kash and Leader.

Things have changed in the Terror Squad camp quite dramatically since 2004 when they had everybody doing the lean back.  The apparent change is that the majority of the soldiers have gone against their General, as Fat Joe has no fan fare as it pertains to his old team.

Since then, Crack packed his bags from New York and has found a new home alongside Florida natives and has equipped himself with DJ Khaled and Rick Ross.

Old members such as Tony Sunshine and Cuban Linx have expressed their distaste and accused him of not paying them what is owed.

A disheartening break-up came between Joey and the Squad’s front lady Remy Ma as her current incarceration seemed to open up a moment of clarity as she had thrown shots at her former group member.

While on the Ear Candy radio program with Renada Romain, Joe opened up on his beginnings with Remy and how his intentions were just to give her the outlet she needed to shine and obtain the success that he saw in her.

“When you see someone in the projects and they ain’t doing so good, but you feel that they’re talented and you come and tell them ‘Yo, Imma put you on,’ next thing you know they’re driving Benz,’ on number one songs, they owning houses in Jersey and all that.”

Once 2007 came around and Remy was convicted for the shooting, a different tune came around which clearly threw Fat Joe off of his feet and made him second guess his decision to align with her.  At this point, he feels as though everyone has been blaming him for what he hasn’t done instead of acknowledging what he has.

“It makes you not wanna help people anymore.  When you attack me like that, she was like my sister at one time, I can’t really rock with her.”

Regardless of what the relationship is now, Joe still continues to wish her the best above everything else.

Along with Remy, the widow of Big Pun has continued to voice her opinion on the rapper feeling that he has been robbing her family of their funds and has yet to provide them with what is left of Pun’s legacy.

With so many enemies building up top, it makes sense why he moved all the way down to Florida.

50 Cent issued a statement that contained Fat Joe’s album sales for the week, which totaled 8,343 copies.
“A bad man kicks you while you’re down,” 50 Cent said in a statement. “Well I’m the worst, I’ma kick Fat Joe in the head.”
Prior to Fat Joe releasing his 9th solo album, 50 issued a number of viral videos poking fun at the album was released, while Fat Joe replied in kind with messages via his Twitter page.
“Tell 50 to get off my D*CK already,“ Fat Joe said. “He was sick that my album is SO HOT that real music not that wack sh*t him and his clowns are making.”
Fat Joe also appeared on Hot 97’s Cipha Sounds and Peter Rosenberg radio show in New York, where he thanked 50 Cent for the “free promotion” for J.O.S.E. 2.

I really thought this beef was over between 50 Cent and Fat Joe. Until 50 almost died after listening to Joey Crack’s new album J.O.S.E 2. Say what? I know. Another weak attack on behalf of the G-Unit mastermind.

Apparently 50 was “rushed” to the hospital after listening to Don Catergena’s new album. It was all fake, and again, a weak blow on his part.

Fat Joe has fired back and wrote on his Twitter earlier this morning “Tell 5o to get off my dick already… he was sick that my album is SO HOT that real music not that whack shit him and his clowns are making.”
