No, I didn’t flunk math, but in this case, take 1 lovely bra and 1 lovely corset and put them together and you get 1 lovely top. The corset is from A Piece of Candy and has such a beautifully intricate fabric – reminding me of Frank Lloyd Wright’s stained glass windows, actually. I really loved the fabric and wanted to show it off, but wanted some straps and frankly, the plain edged top of it just needed a bit of boost. So, trying on some bras that would be just a bit higher to give it an edge, I put on this lovely Casa del Shai bra with a bit of pink lace to pick up the pink in the fabric and I knew I had what I wanted.

I added a simple circle skirt from artilleri. I like this skirt because it has the waist and belt on the jacket or shirt layer to give you a nice, clean edge. Shoes from Tesla gave me the pale pink I needed to echo the pink in the bra.

This Dark Mouse Reversal of Fortune jewelry is a splendid art deco set that is a perfect complement to the corset. The W& Y hair is a lovely casually messy bob.

This PXL Creatiosn makeup has a lovely pastel green shadow with pink lipstick that again echoes the pink in the outfit. Sadly, the Fleur nails (now 5th & Oxford) are no longer for sale.

posted by Gidge Uriza

Not since Edith Head dressed Lucy have I seen a coat that made me ooo so very deeply. Don’t know who Edith Head was? GASP. HAND ME YOUR FASHIONISTA CARD RIGHT NOW YOU ARE OFFICIALLY OUT OF THE FASHION MAFIA!

Blasphemy. Look it up. Seriously.

Ok ok ok ok ok. I’ll sum up. Edith Head was a designer in days of Yore (not GOR! Yore!) who was charged with creating all of the clothes for I LOVE LUCY. Her task to create clothing that was feminine yet fashionable – however she had to keep the clothing CONSERVATIVE enough not to alienate the audience that the I LOVE LUCY SHOW catered to. Seriously, conservative AND fashionable? How cruel a charge was that? One of the trademarks of Edith Head design is that she almost always created Lucy MATCHING coats and dresses. It was a subtle elegance that didn’t SCREAM overt fancy at the audience but set Lucy apart from the “every-woman” look.

They made Ethel dress like that. Poor Ethel.

This coat from Musashi Do screamed WEAR ME as soon as I saw it came in Pink – I think Shiryu knows my girl girl side because this is a delicious color of houndstooth and VERY unusual. And now he needs to make the matching dress. He may name it Gidge. HAHAH (just kidding).

Oh and just a note, I’m not completely crazy. I know that it’s tough to see the tights and shoes – I really wanted this dress to POP which is why I chose such a dark background. If you CAN see the uber cute tights they were a hunt gift from Unzipped and now I have to get over there to see what else she has that rocks so much! These are precious!

Tesla Motors’ long-planned Model S electric sedan may finally get a home — that is, if property negotiations scheduled to take place tonight in Downey, Calif., go as planned. According to the town’s mayor, Mario Guerra, a deal that would see the electric car startup set up an assembly line for the Model S on part of a former NASA site there is “99.9 percent done,” The Downey Patriot reports.

One of the last steps toward locking in the plant (and bringing up to 1,200 jobs to the area) could be completed as early as tonight, when the Downey City Council is scheduled to vote on a memorandum of understanding with the Industrial Realty Group, which owns a portion of the 80-acre property, in a closed session. According to the City Council agenda, the price and terms of payment remain under negotiation for the site currently occupied by Downey Studios. But Guerra tells the Patriot that as of this week, “The deal points have all been agreed to,” by Tesla, the city and IRG. “Now it’s the lawyering stuff.”

Contacted by the Long Beach Press-Telegram late yesterday, Guerra told reporters “it would be premature to call anything a done deal at this point,” although “the city and private parties involved are indeed close to terms.” If remaining negotiations go smoothly, the Guerra told the Press-Telegram that a deal could be secured within 10 days. We reached out to Tesla this morning for confirmation of Guerra’s comments and an update on the site selection process, and spokesperson Ricardo Reyes told us “We have nothing to announce at this point.”

Downey’s chief competitor for the Model S plant is Long Beach, where Tesla has been considering a site formerly owned by Boeing. According to the Press-Telegram, the startup discussed the site with Boeing “as recently as last week,” and the city has not given up on the project.

When it comes to site selection for the Model S factory, it ain’t over ’til it’s over. Tesla initially said it would build an assembly plant for the vehicle in California. It later announced plans to set up shop in New Mexico, and then it was back to California again after the Golden State put together juicier incentives, including a tax break expected to save the company nearly $29 million.

But the clock is ticking for Tesla to stay on track with its production time line — deliveries of the Model S are slated to begin in 2011. The Department of Energy, which has awarded Tesla a $365 million low-interest loan to support the sedan production facility, said when it announced the loan this summer that it expects the vehicle to reach production volumes of 20,000 per year by the end of 2013.

“Oh, by the way, ‘Modern Day Cowboy’ is going to be in Guitar Hero 6.”

That is, of course, not confirmation of the game. I’m done with the rhythm games for the most part. They’ve gotten old and I would much prefer to see the companies just stick with giving us new stuff through the download channels. Does this news, that Tesla is going to be in Guitar Hero, make you any more or less excited for the next game?

Last Friday, buzz about an imminent IPO for electric car startup Tesla Motors hit the Interwebs, courtesy of two anonymous sources familiar with the plans who spoke with Reuters. As it did with several previous stories about its possible plans for a public offering, however, the company has declined to comment.

But if and when Tesla goes through with its long-discussed goal of going public, it could be the biggest and possibly the first public offering for a U.S. car company since Ford Motor’s IPO more than 50 years ago. The event will also offer a glimpse at the role IPOs will play in the nascent green car market, as the question remains: Is the classic venture capital model (invest early and find a big exit in the form of an acquisition or an IPO) viable for this sector, or will a green-car IPO be more about feeding big capital needs and branding?

While hard answers won’t come until after Tesla’s debut, the outcome of a Tesla IPO will influence the financing strategies of competing green car startups, shape potential investors’ thinking about possible exits (ways to cash in on their investment) for these companies and also — like the A123Systems (s AONE) IPO a couple months ago — serve as a gauge of public confidence in electric cars.

Hopes for a Google-like moneymaker in cleantech (Google took only $25 million in venture capital to make millionaires of 1,000 employees and billionaires of its two co-founders in a wildly successful IPO) have already started to fade for some in the sector. Stephan Dolezalek, managing director of VantagePoint Venture Partners, which has invested in Tesla, told Reuters in September that public offerings now serve more as “financing events” for alternative energy and other cleantech startups rather than a way for investors and founders to cash in on equity.

That seemed to be the case for battery maker A123Systems, which (like Tesla) is trying to capitalize on an electric car boom. A123’s September market debut bore more resemblance to the model described by Dolezalek than the heady days of Google: It’s served to increase the battery maker’s cachet and will likely help the company move forward on its ambitious manufacturing plans. But as Thomson Reuters and the Cleantech Group pointed out, A123’s venture capital investors made an average return of a little over four times their investment, while those of individual investors ranged anywhere from four to eights times. As Katie noted at the time, those returns aren’t bad, but when compared to some dot-com-era exits, they’re not amazing, either.

Greg Brogger, CEO of the private equity marketplace SharesPost, this summer put it to us this way: Cleantech companies building capital-intensive products like cars and solar panels need to raise more funds, more quickly than their Web 2.0 counterparts. You can stretch a dollar a lot further building apps than you can trying to develop, safety test, manufacture, market and distribute vehicles for the mass market.

Tesla has already tapped private investors and the federal government for hundreds of millions of dollars in financing (including more than $200 million in six rounds of equity financing and $465 million in low-interest loans from the Department of Energy). A public offering could give it an important — if not the only — new financing channel.

Of course, using an IPO to simply raise money isn’t exactly a new strategy. As the New York Times put it in an editorial following Google’s (s GOOG) 2004 IPO, “some of the dot-com-bubble darlings…famously turned to Wall Street to raise cash merely to burn it.” Tesla, A123 and other ventures trying to break into large-scale manufacturing need money to (among other things) set up factories and crank out physical goods for sale. It’s worth remembering, however, that they haven’t yet proven themselves as profitable enterprises (Google had done that by the time it went public).

At the end of the day, public offerings are not just about financing — they’re also branding events, as panelists at the AlwaysOn Summit at Stanford noted this summer. A successful IPO for Tesla could serve to boost the credibility of its brand, and could also have a halo effect across other green car startups. On the flip side, if the stock performs poorly, it could detract from Tesla and other electric car makers’ efforts to establish themselves with the mainstream. Over on The Truth About Cars blog, Edward Niedermeyer writes that Tesla’s existing brand — that of a Silicon Valley native — could be a boon on the public market:

“In fact the best argument for a successful Tesla IPO is the popularity of its electric roadster among the Silicon Valley elite. IPOs are rarely rational phenomena, and local homerism could just provide Tesla with sufficient capital to take its Model S to market.”

A successful Tesla IPO could also provide a branding boost for government bets on venture-backed car startups as creators of green jobs — from the federal backing for Fisker Automotive on down to local incentives for V-Vehicle in Louisiana. As Pascal Levensohn, founder of Levensohn Venture Partners and a National Venture Capitalist Association board member, told us in September, typically when companies are acquired instead of going public, jobs are lost, while IPOs help create jobs.

In June, analysts for the research firm NeXt Up put together a report on Tesla for SharesPost subscribers, valuing Tesla at $1.05 billion, and last month the firm upped that valuation to $1.24 billion — or an estimated $4.21 to $4.93 a share. Six months ago, however, Daimler (s DAI) took a stake in Tesla at a $550 million valuation, so the actual valuation may be significantly lower.

Whether Reuters’ sources are right that Tesla will register with the SEC within a matter of days for an IPO or not, we may have quite a while to wait before the company actually goes through with a public offering and we can see first-hand how the event reverberates throughout the industry. Investor Dolezalek said back in September that the startup wouldn’t be going public until late 2010 at the very earliest “if the market stays the way it is today.”

The company that made electric vehicles cool again and dispelled the ugly golf cart stereotypes is r

The company that made electric vehicles cool again and dispelled the ugly golf cart stereotypes is rumored to file for an IPO very soon according to a recent Reuters report. What makes this CleanTech startup unique from say the recent A123 Systems IPO? Tesla is currently profitable! Profitability is one way to counter the IPO risks noted in this well blogged article about Goldman Sachs and their IPO business.

Tesla is on a mission to prove that Silicon Valley can do what Detroit, Tokyo and Frankfurt cannot. While some may think their Tesla Roadster (costs approx. $109k), which has a range of approximately 220 miles and Ferrari like performance, is a toy for the rich- a new Tesla Model S is in the works to dispel this theory and open the company to those with a smaller budget. The Model S will cost around $50,000, have 4 doors and appear similar to a nice Lexus, but more beautiful in my opinion. It also will not have any tailpipe emissions and will cost about $2 to power for 300 miles.

While Tesla’s automobiles are an evolutionary step as far as design, production and backing- they will nonetheless need to compete with companies like Nissan, GM, Fisker and Ford who all have both government backing, and either an EV or Plug-in EV in the works. Along with several battery makers including A123 Systems, Ener1 and Johnson Controls, Tesla received $465MM in low cost loans from the US government to help spur development. It is interesting to ponder whether or not the market for efficient automobiles will prefer plug in electrics, pure electrics or if it is large and wealthy enough for both. Signs point to the latter as several of these planned or existing cars, including Tesla’s, have a lengthy customer waiting list.

Tesla’s investors include Google, founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page, Daimler AG, Aabar Investments, Valor Equity Partners, Technology Partners, The Westly Group, Compass Venture Partners. Tesla has also received an ‘opportunistic’ US$82.5m equity investment from a group led by Fjord Capital Management, a private equity firm which focuses exclusively on clean energy. “Daimler, which invested US$50m in Tesla earlier in 2009, along with Aabar Investments, which is also Daimler’s largest shareholder, contributed to the offering to keep its stake at just under 10%. The new money was earmarked for Tesla’s expansion of its retail store network globally.”

The IPO would be the first from a US Automaker since Ford in 1956.

I was headed to THE VELVET to dance my heart out with Cajsa during our friend Maht’s Sunday set when this great sweater dress was dropped on me from Linc. It comes in an array of colors and they’ve done a nice job with the skirt prim.

It was a nice Sunday afternoon kind of dress to club in. Plus it’s wintery cozy – I love the big oversized collar on it. It would also look great with slacks (expect to see it that way!)

So I let my hair down and danced the afternoon away with Cajsa.

Aptera co-founder Chris Anthony has bowed out of day-to-day business activities at the three-wheeled

Aptera co-founder Chris Anthony has bowed out of day-to-day business activities at the three-wheeled vehicle developer as it seeks to put the brakes on its cash burn. But one of his other startups, Flux Power, has just hit the gas, with the launch of its first product last week.

Based in Vista, Calif., Flux plans to market modular systems for a range of energy storage applications, including electric vehicles and backup power supplies, as Chief Technology Officer Joseph Gottlieb told us last month. It’s starting with a charger and a lithium ion battery module. In the second quarter of next year, Flux also plans to introduce a drive system, according to the company’s web site.

“Our data collection and cell metrics allow for extended warranties and determining the residual value of a cell after primary use which creates an opportunity for battery leasing options,” Gottlieb said in today’s release. The system records each cell through its entire life cycle, which Flux says makes it easy to find quality defects.

Flux Power is hardly alone in the race to provide better battery management systems, or BMS, for advanced energy storage applications. Mammoth auto supplier Ricardo unveiled a generic battery management system this summer meant to work with any vehicle battery cell size or chemistry, enabling automatic adjustments within the battery pack based on changes in individual cells.

Other startups are trying to get in on the management side of the battery game, too: Tesla Motors is supplying battery pack tech for Daimler’s electric Smart car (the first deal in what Tesla hopes will be a larger tech supply business) and 2-year-old Atieva aims to provide custom battery systems for independent plug-in car makers (in May, it was working with Lishen to build 3,000 battery packs for buses in China as part of a nationally subsidized initiative).

Flux hopes to compete on cost, using lithium cells from a variety of manufacturers and packaging them into a battery with the Flux management system that can then be tweaked for different applications. Customers — an automaker, for example — will then be able to take that modular system, create their own specially tuned battery pack and easily integrate Flux’s smart charger.

It all started with the hair. This damned hair that Cajsa has been flaunting from Exile…….I had to have it. As Hannibal Lector taught us – WHAT do we Covet? That which we see every day. So eventually I broke down and bought it because OMG it’s big and floofy and FANTASTIC.

And then, I wanted a party dress to wear with such festive hair. I was completely thrilled to find a previously missed gorgeous retro styled dress from BOOM – that had been given away at the VIP Keys hunt a few months ago. She also has in the store MANY great dress options – I think this one might’ve been just for the hunt.

This festive party dress gave me an opportunity to break out some of my FAVORITE panty hose on the grid- from SHOP TOSHY. Check out the totally festive roses on the back and the seam – VERY nicely done. Toshy makes her product on all bottom layers- pants, sock and underpants, so you can find a way to make them work with your dresses. She has a great selection.

Since I was previously trying to patronize everyone who so graciously GAVE to the VIP Hunt…..I went to Boom and had to buy……

….a gorgeously demure retrol styled bathing suit.

I slipped into the Antonia hair from Truth (don’t want to mess up my do while swimming).

Road racing games such Microsoft’s Project Gotham Racing and Forza bring realism to the digital driving experience by duplicating the sound of squealing tires and the roar of engines.

But what about an electric car? How does it sound? Isn’t the whir of the motor completely different?

Screeching to a halt from 119 miles an hour was a fun way to use electrons, says Tesla owner Tom Burt

These question brought Microsoft game engineers together with Tesla owner Tom Burt for an on-the-track day of recording Burt’s Roadster screeching to a halt from 119 miles an hour.

In a blog entry, Burt says he heavy braking was a fun way to use electrons.

“The brakes got quite hot after three of the 119 mph runs, which ended with hard/threshold braking to slow the car before running out of pavement. The sound they recorded as we blew by at these speeds was fantastic.”

The day began at 7:30 a.m. when sound engineers from Microsoft Game Studios wired the $98,000 car with three large boom microphones suction-cupped to the sides and rear. Two other mics were attached up front over the sway bars near the front tires, and another was placed in the trunk. A final mic went inside the cabin.

Burt said that in addition to the abrupt braking, he performed hard sweeping turns, which generated “good tire chirps at the edge of adhesion (and) then more aggressive skids.”

Finally, “the team asked for ‘longer’ squeal segments, (and) we did tight circles just fast enough to keep the tires howling continuously for 30 seconds or so.”

The motor overheated after several full speed accelerations and the car under-steered, given its stock suspension settings and tire sizes, Burt said. But when it was all over, he was relieved to find he had enough juice in the battery to drive home.
