the gorgeous felt balls used as a display feature in my boutique are made by greek-born tian kalouli, to a design idea that i had been thinking about for a while. tian is a local artist. she prefers to use locally sourced, dartmoor wool where possible, to make felt that she then fashions for her work.

tian is open to doing commissions: working with your ideas to create aesthetic felt objects.

she also designs felt jewellery and scarves using silk chiffon and felt.

-Concrètement, deux à cinq façonniers pilotes contribueront à l’élaboration et à la phase de test de cette plateforme Web

-Une fois la plateforme améliorée d’ici fin 2011, la promotion auprès des autres façonniers sera assurée par l’IFTH.

-La plateforme dans sa version finale permettra aux sous-traitants de se connecter pour la mise au point de nouveaux modèles : coupe, choix du tissu, estimation du coût de production industrielle seront notamment disponibles, ce qui permettra aux façonniers, à partir d’une demande de leurs donneurs d’ordre, de mettre au point très rapidement les nouveaux modèles, et d’indiquer à leurs clients le prix de ces produits. Cette mise au point virtuelle doit inciter les façonniers à se montrer plus créatifs puisque les coûts de mise au point seront sensiblement réduits.

D’autre part le secteur du textile envisage la création d’une plate-forme d’échanges entre donneurs d’ordre et sous-traitants étendue aux autres secteurs de la mode et du luxe qui rencontrent des difficultés similaires (Bijouterie-joaillerie, Cuir-chaussure-maroquinerie), sur le modèle de la plate-forme automobile. Ce serait l’instance de partage continu de la vision stratégique, des besoins à moyen et long terme,…des donneurs d’ordre comme des façonniers.

Italian down company Moncler continues their collaboration domination, this time partnering with Pharrell Williams and his textile company, Bionic. Using his companies technology, which recycles bottles and turns it in to yarns and fabric, Pharrell has designed a reversible puffer vest – inspired by a traditional bullet-proof vest . The lining of the jacket has a print designed by Japanese artist, Keita Sugiura, who is known for his nature inspired creations.

The Visvim and Pharrell collaborations will be part of a new collection from the italian based based company called, Moncler V. This collection will have the company work on numerous projects with various artists around the world. Stockiest and release dates to come.

Having announced a partnership with Visvim earlier this year, Italian down company Moncler continues their good form having just released details of another collaboration, this time with Pharrell Williams and his textile company, Bionic.  Using his company’s technology, which recycles bottles and turns it in to yarns and fabric, Pharrell has designed a reversible puffer vest – inspired by a traditional bullet-proof vest.  The lining of the jacket has a print designed by Japanese artist, Keita Sugiura, who is known for his nature inspired creations.

Une surprise que cette première édition du Marché aux tissus organisée par Camille Douay et l’équipe de l’Office de Tourisme de Roubaix, à la Manufacture des Flandres, puisque la journée fut pleine de monde au point que certains négociants en tissus avaient sous-estimé les besoins des gens.

This textile bleaching factory was built in 1879. In 1978, the factory went bankrupt. Sobelta bought the factory grounds and sold them to Artifex in 1990, who used the sheds for storage. Unfortunately, at this time, some parts of the protected steam engine were stolen, surrendering the factory into a downward spiral. After Artifex abandoned the building, vandalism and theft increased, rendering the factory into a ruin. Today reconversion plan started; demolishing the most decayed parts of the buildings and redeveloping the best preserved ones into social housing.

Vandaag ging in naar het MoMu en het M hka in mijn geliefde Antwerpen. De tentoonstelling in het momu was niet veel bijzonders. In het M hka was er een tentoonstelling rond textiel. De tentoonstelling had een paar mooie en inspirerend kunstwerken (maar ik moet eerlijk toegeven dat het meeste mij wel wat teleurstelde.) Ondanks dat alles hier toch een paar beelden van de werken die ik oprecht mooi vond.

Werk van Jan Fabre (verrassend niet ? Ik schrok er ook van. Ik had helemaal niet verwacht dat dit een werk van Fabre was.), Hermine en Elise in de weerspiegeling van het glas. I love weerspiegeling-foto’s.
