Becky Edgington and Sam Buist, the organisers of Preston Tringe

“We just want Preston Tringe to be accessible to anyone and everyone”, says Sam Buist enthusiastically, “and allow people to experience a range of theatre, music, literature and other contemporary stuff for a week.”

In the week leading up to the world famous Edinburgh Festival, a small-scale version will be taking place in Preston, Lancashire.

Organised by the team behind Screaming Theatre it’s a chance for Preston to enjoy a diverse range of comedy, music and drama in rather unexpected places.

The venues will include the Adelphi, Ship Inn, The Angel, New Continental and the Avenham Park Pavillion.

Buist said: “We wanted to take this event to the people and make it in places you wouldn’t expect to see drama or these type of events.

“I’d like to think we can detach the stigma that’s sometimes attached to drama and live performance, that’s it’s for those with money and needs to be in a big swanky theatre.”

The Preston Tringe is planned to run from 27th – 31st July and anyone can submit an application to put on a show.

“We’re not being picky,” says Buist, “we want everyone to be involved and have a chance to perform. It doesn’t matter if you’re a semi-professional or complete amateur, there is a place for you at the Tringe.”

The idea for organising the event came when Sam Buist and co-organiser Becky Edington, were at the Edinburgh Festival after graduating from the University of Central Lancashire in 2004.

He said: “Originally we wanted to set up a theatre group, and we did that with Screaming Theatre, but then it evolved further and we thought wouldn’t it be fantastic if Preston had some sort of fringe festival.

“We wanted something that was a bit offbeat and edgy but not too abstract. It’s important that the events are relevant to people and accessible.”

Having the event the week before the Edinburgh Festival means the team are hopeful they can attract some of the acts due to appear at the Edinburgh Festival to put on preview shows for Preston Tringe.

“I think we might be able to pull in some of the shows due to appear at Edinburgh,” says Sam, “but it’s not just about getting touring or big acts in – we want it to be put on local people for local people.”

The Preston Tringe will also be looking to connect with younger people, particularly the 20-40 community in Preston.
He said: “Youth theatre is very well catered for and the big theatres tend to have a strong client base in the over-40s – and generally pretty affluent. I think there’s a real gap for good quality and affordable theatre for 20-somethings.”

The deadline for applications to be submitted for Preston Tringe is May 6th.

The Screaming Theatre Company will next be performing at the Adelphi on April 24th-26th with their show, Bollocks. It tells the story of a solider sent to fight in Northern Ireland, who is shot in the bollocks. It then follows his relationships with people and his struggle finding employment after being discharged from service.

60 Channels- Counter Evolution (Angel Remix)

 The track Counter Evolution first appeared on the 60 Channel’s CD: “Covert Movements” from a few years back featuring vocals from myself and Karen Grant. Now, The Angel has taken the track and reworked it into a wikkid dubstep flavored riddim fresh for 09! And altho my lyrical flows from the original aren’t in the remix, my presence is still felt inna track. This is not a sequel, but it is book 2 of the Boston PD-FBI series.

She joined him at the table, her cheeks flushed as she buttered a small piece of bread.  “Once upon a time,” she said, laying on her Irish accent, “there were three brothers who lived on the southwest coast of Ireland–a farmer, a hermit monk and a ne’er-do-well, who was, of course, everybody’s favorite…

Prologue

 And so begins the magical tale of the three brothers and the Stone Angel.  This Irish legend is the basis of Keira’s impending six-week trip to Ireland.  She is a successful folklorist and illustrator who is researching Irish stories for an upcoming conference and the trip to Ireland is both professional and personal.  Her mother, now a religious recluse, had gone to Ireland in her youth and returned home pregnant with Keira.

Keira’s uncle, Boston homicide detective Bob O’Reilly, was concerned about her, even more so when she discovers a man dead the night before she leaves.  When he doesn’t hear from her in Ireland he calls a search-and-rescue expert to find her.  When Simon finds her the sparks fly and Simon stays by her side as they head back to Boston.  Once back in Boston a wide range of characters and mishaps prove that the legend may have some truth and every one who knows about it is at risk.

This book really does have a magical feel to it.  There are angels, fairies, Satan, and evil, all fighting an ageless battle.  I’ve never really been interested in fairy tales or folktales, but I must admit there is something very romantic and mystical about them that I’ve never really appreciated.  Also, I fell in love with Ireland even though most of the action was in Boston.  The mystery and rugged beauty appealed to me and now I might have to put Ireland on my list of hopeful vacation destinations!

This is not a sequel, but I think you will not fully appreciate this story without reading the first, The Widow.  My review is here.  Abigail, Owen, and Abigail’s father all play significant roles and I appreciate that she incorporated them into the story instead of them being relegated to a mere mention here and there. 

Book 3, The Mist, will be released this summer.  I am looking forward to it

Enjoyable things:

It feels like rain here but the sky is dry. I spent the day wandering around looking for a bank. There are banks everywhere, but I wanted a certain bank. In the end, I didn’t find it. Instead I found street food and a little second-story cafe.

I’ve accidentally started drinking coffee. Last week we were on a boat amongst the karsts of Ha Long Bay. The boatmen gave us coffee for breakfast and I felt like I should try it. Today in Hanoi I had two cups in the Vietnamese style, the second giving me the wild jitters.

I think the jitters got to me because this afternoon I had a conversation with an angel. We talked by tapping our fingers, and she said a number of things about my future. I wasn’t sure that I believed her at first, and I argued with her. Then she proved to me that she was an angel. Her grace humbled me. I didn’t have much to say after that.

Tomorrow I go back to Cat Ba Island. I intend to spend a good deal of time in Hanoi, though. Owen and I have agreed that we should visit on the weekends and for Tet. It’s a wonderful city, packed with color and life. Motorbikes weave between each other in a restless dance. People by the tens of thousands eat seated on the street curbs. A light mist lifts in the late morning, allowing the evening sun to gaze unfettered at the pastel buildings. In the sound of traffic, in the touching of chopsticks, in the tapping of her fingers the city whispers:

“Relax.”

الطفل رفع البصر على الله قائلا : “وانا ما سوف تفعله عندما اريد ان اتكلم معك؟” ابتسم الله في الاطفال قائلا : “انجيل الخاص بك وسوف يعلمك كيفية الصلاة”.
قال الطفل : “لقد قمت واستمع على الارض هناك سوء الرجل. تحمي من انا؟”
اجاب الله “، يا انجل سوف تدافع لكم ، حتى اذا كان يعني المخاطرة في الحياة!”
الطفل ينظر الحزينة ، قائلا : “ولكننى لن يكون دائما حزينا لأنني لن أراك بعد الان.” اجاب الله “، يا انجيل دائما التحدث اليك عني ، وسوف يعلمك طريقه الى العودة الى لي ، على الرغم من اننى سوف يكون دائما لكم المقبل”.
في تلك اللحظة ان هناك الكثير من السلام في الجنة ، بل اصوات من الارض ويمكن بالفعل ان يسمع. الطفل في عجلة من امرنا ، وطلب ناعم ، “يا الله ، اذا كنت على وشك ان يغادر الان من فضلك قل لي اسم بلادي انجيل”! رد الله ، يا انجل اسم ليس مهما… كنت ببساطة ادعوها
ام!

Duo-ul de DJ a luat fiinta la inceputul anului 2008, bazandu-se pe o mai veche colaborare a celor doi DJ si producatori.

Radu este mai cunoscut publicului larg ca fiind si membru al trupei Crush & Alexandra Ungureanu. El a fost implicat de mai bine de 10 ani in diverse proiecte muzicale la care a fost producator si interpret, insa de cativa ani s-a dedicat proiectului Crush, care, alaturi de Alexandra Ungureanu, a reusit sa se impuna pe scena dance din Romania, avand sute de concerte la activ.
In paralel, Radu a performat si ca DJ, sub numele de Konstantin, la diferite petreceri de club.

Angel (DJ Blanilla) este DJ de aproape un deceniu iar in ultimii ani a produs diverse trackuri pe segmentul electro, breakbeat, chillout si drum and bass. Este dublu finalist la cea mai importanta competitie de DJ si producatori din Romania, Heineken Music Thirst, unde a avut ocazia sa imparta scena cu nume ca Tiesto, Groove Armada, 2 Many DJs, Soulwax sau Lemon 8. A mixat la festivalul Student Parade in 2007 unde alaturi de Jasc, Raoul Russu si Vali Barbulescu a facut warm up-ul pentru Tom Novy. Impreuna, Konstantin & The Angel isi propun sa aduca un concept nou pentru DJ-ingul din Romania, de mixing live, back to back, pregatind niste seturi cu multe elemente surpriza, care vor face pana si din cel mai plictisit public, un mare party animal.
