Starting the night off well, I was late and missed half of the first act due to getting lost picking friends up as my navigator in the passenger seat was too interested in beer and singing to Beyoncé. The first band on stage were The Hooks which thankfully made me realise the night wasn’t going to be all about screamo and death metal bands that take themselves way too seriously. Their upbeat alternative rock sounds defiantly got the crowd going and was a great opening act. The next band was the band I was mostly looking forward to see as I was listening to some of their stuff on YouTube last week. The Argonauts remind me of the band Two Door Cinema Club, so I love their sound a lot and were extremely happy to see that a lot of other people did too! Singing along, the crowd were loving the vibe the band gave out.

Indie mono rock bands Chavindi and the Mono Polys honestly didn’t really do much for me. I think they were great bands, confident and interesting but a bit too slow and dull for my liking and I don’t think they got the crowd going as much as the first two bands did.

For IntotheNorthSea I didn’t really know what to expect. I knew they had a rather large fan base as I recognise them from being talked about around college, but they surprised me when they came on stage. When I say surprise, It was a good one as I expected it to be just another indie rock band playing the same type of music as everyone else so when the techno notes started rolling out the keyboards I was rather intrigued.

From the crowd reactions my estimates for the top three were exactly right with the Hooks coming third, The Argonauts second and IntotheNorthSea being the winners of the night. All the bands did extremely well, they all played flawlessly which is pretty hard sometimes when you are playing in front of all your friends. Other awards which were handed out included Best Vocals which was won by Tom Knights from The Mono Poly’s, Best guitarist going to George Adams and Best Drummer Dan Thomson both from The Argonauts and Best Bassist William Osborn from The Hooks.

Overall it was a very enjoyable night and defiantly destroyed my negative expectations although I did lose my blazer, sad times. However I think the top two bands of the competition defiantly have mainstream potential and I hope that they keep up the good work and I will see them at V or Reading festival in a few years time.

Ein beliebtes Thema der griechischen Mythologie, die Argonautensage, wird von Tentieth Century Fox aufgewärmt und als The Argonauts gegen Ende des Jahrzehnts in die Kinos kommen. Drehbuchautor und Produzent ist Zak Penn.

Die von Ridley Scott geplante Robin-Hood-Adaption Nottingham wurde vorerst auf unbestimmte Zeit auf Eis gelegt. Grund hierfür sind die andauernden Streiks in der amerikanischen Filmindustrie. Der Film sollte die Legende um Robin Hood kritisch aus der Sicht des Sheriffs von Nottingham erzählen, der von Russel Crowe verkörpert werden sollte. Bleibt zu hoffen, dass dieses spannende Projekt bald wieder aufgenommen wird.
