Happy Black Friday, everyone! I hope all of my U.S. friends had a wonderful Thanksgiving, filled with family, food, and football! I’m having a wonderful time here in Arkansas with my parents—though I’ve spent most of it “locked” in the back bedroom trying to get Ransome’s Crossing finished. (About three chapters to go!!!!)

For Fun Fridays between now and December, I thought I’d share some clips from some of my favorite Christmas movies and TV episodes. Well, I would like to comment articulately on how smallVille’s current season is developing but since they moved it to FRIDAY nights I keep remembering on Thursday it exists and then forgetting on Friday and doing things like watching WizTober instead. So I missed the Wonder Twins. Darn.

New favorite t-shirt (because I know you like to keep track of these things.)

Speaking of all things Wizard…Wizards of Waverly Place still knocking out the solid comedy. Harper moving in should be an interesting turn.

Now, the Sonny With A Chance will Chad and Sonny divulge their feelings on a talk show episode tipped the way too many flashbacks alarm.

Exactly the opposite on the funny meter was the latest Jonas (but I think I mentioned that before) which I have just discovered has been picked up for a second season. They’re getting a new show runner but I hope they don’t ditch that much — Gayle really likes the one camera style and I think they’ve really grown into the humor as the season progressed.

Speaking of growing into humor, have been on a Big Bang Theory kick, watching Seasons 1 + 2 on DVD. And this past week’s once again ratcheted up the funny. When Sheldon’s radio interview was being helped along by helium, Gayle and I were both laughing so hard it was impossible to hear anything that was being said. I do miss Leslie Winkle as a fountain of dread mischief…sure Kripke’s funny, but how about a Winkle and Cooper revenge tag team to take him down.

Still haven’t watched Shanghai Surprise. Need to change up my Netflix queue and drop the TV shows and concentrate on movies.

Oh, should probably drop in a Nick update. Nick Cannon very entertaining as The Chairman, liked iCarly’s iHave My Principals episode — always good to see Tim Russ. True Jackson seems to be focusing on the teens, which is ok, but I do like the craziness Max and Amanda bring with them.

Comics are grim, especially with Black Lanterns all over the DC Universe but Groo is back (To the fray!) and so is Giffen (Ambush Bug and Doom Patrol) so there is some light.

I think that catches up w/ the reviews. Still missing Warehouse 13.

Dancing with the Stars segna il suo record stagionale con oltre venti milioni ma Dr. House fa meglio nel pubblico giovane. Bene la serata di sit-com CBS e il nuovo reality Find My Family partito fuori programmazione. Male come al solito Trauma e Heroes, sui soliti valori le altre serie.

• The Dome arriva in televisione
  La Dreamworks di Steven Spielberg realizzerà un film televisivo/miniserie basato sull’ultimo romanzo del celebre scrittore Stephen King, The Dome (Under the Dome in originale). La storia è ambientata, come al solito, in una piccola cittadina del Maine dove all’improvviso cala una barriera invisibile che blocca tutto e tutti quelli che sono all’interno, anche l’aria. Inizia una quindi, per i protagonisti, una lotta contro il tempo per salvarsi.
• FlashForward si ferma
  La ABC ha fermato per una settimana la produzione di FlashForward, la nuova serie sci-fi iniziata da quasi due mesi. La cosa avviene un mese dopo l’abbandono di Marc Guggenheim, showrunner della serie, e dopo l’ennesimo calo di ascolti che la sta affliggendo. Il motivo quindi sarebbe quello di consentire agli scrittori di rimettere mano alle sceneggiature. Intanto il 3 dicembre assisteremo in USA all’ultimo episodio per questo 2009.
• Psych avrà una quinta stagione
  La notizia non giunge inaspettata, comunque ora è ufficiale. USA Network ha annunciato che la serie comico-poliziesca Psych avrà una quinta stagione di sedici episodi. La serie racconta le divertenti avventure di Shawn (James Roday), un finto sensitivo con un grande senso dell’osservazione e Gus (Dule Hill), il suo migliore amico che collaborano con la polizia di Santa Barbara. La serie è partita nel 2006 segnando il record di ascolti all’epoca per il canale e ha continuato ad avere sempre ottimi risultati. Psych intanto tornerà il 29 gennaio con la seconda parte della quarta stagione mentre la quinta debutterà la prossima estate.
• Ultimo episodio di V per questo 2009
  Stasera va in onda il quarto ed ultimo episodio per il 2009 di V. La serie di fantascienza tornerà poi a marzo con i restanti nove episodi e andrà in onda dopo Lost. Intanto sono stati calcolati i dati delle registrazioni della prima puntata che accresce il già buon risultato di ulteriori 2,4 milioni, portando il dato finale a 16,7 milioni (6,2); ottimo debutto quindi per la serie, specie nei ratings, anche se negli episodi successivi gli ascolti sono scesi. Worst Show: The Cleveland Show (Episode: “Ladies’ Night”) – I watch The Cleveland Show afraid that if I miss it, they will finally have a funny episode.  I’m still waiting for that funny episode.

The Power Rankings: (may contain mild spoilers)

10.  How I Met Your Mother (Episode: “The Playbook”) – While I enjoy Barney’s single shenanigans, I’m still slightly bothered how the Barney/Robin relationship which the show invested us all in has dissipated so quickly.

9. Parks and Recreation (Episode: “Hunting Trip”) – This is slowly becoming my favorite show on NBC Thursday nights.

8. It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia (Episode: “The D.E.N.N.I.S. System”)

7. Glee (Episode: “Ballad”) – Not as good as last week but still a step in the right direction.  I don’t think I can truly love this show until the two pregnancy secrets are revealed (especially Terri’s)

6. Community (Episode: “Environmental Science”) – Andrea and I sang “Somewhere Out There” at Sing Sing Karaoke at around 5 AM in the morning inspired by this episode.

5. The Mentalist (Episode: “His Right Red Hand”) – Like sci-fi shows, crime procedurals have mythology episodes and with The Mentalist, any episode that involves Red John is infinitely better than run-of-the-mill episodes.

4. Friday Night Lights (Episode: “A Sort Of Homecoming”) – I’m really getting tired of Landry getting attractive girls but the end of this episode was just sad.

3. The Big Bang Theory (Episode: “The Adhesive Duck Deficiency”) – Episodes where Penny and Sheldon spend most of the episode together >>> all other episodes

2. Curb Your Enthusiasm (Episode: “The Table Read”) – Leon (JB Smoove) completely stole this episode! “I Danny Dubersteined the shit out of him!”

1. Sons of Anarchy (Episode: “Service”) – The only thing that bothered me about this episode is that conflicts that have been building all season got resolved a little too smoothly (unless some people are playing possum). For all the praise I’ve given Katey Sagal (Gemma), Ryan Hurst (Opie) has been equally amazing.

I have always been following funny sitcoms on TV. This one however was quite a delight. Although I’m  no physicist, the fact that geeks somehow survive in this world is a comforting thought. Albeit without being socially adept.

The Big Bang Theory is set in the modern day against the life of two prodigies in their twenties working at Caltech. Sheldon, a theoretical physicist, and Leonard, an experimental physicist, are room mates who live across the hall from Penny, an aspiring actor who works in the Cheesecake Factory. The paradox is in place when Leonard and Sheldon’s geekiness and intellect are set in huge contrast against Penny’s down-to-earth nature and common sense.

The show’s excessive reference to Star Trek is a bit unnerving due to the fact that I was never really a Star Trek or Star Wars fan myself. I know that kind of is a boot in the behind if I even dare call myself a geek, without having been involved in that genre. While most of the ‘klingon’ and ‘vulcan’ references are a bit hard to decipher, I started getting the hang of it and it was amazingly entertaining. To see that geeks often find sarcasm a bit hard to understand, at least I am in that category, or am I misunderstanding the distinction between geek and just downright idiots?

Jim Parson’s impersonation of Dr. Sheldon Cooper is impeccable. He actually somewhat reminds me of Mr. Bean. Albeit a very smart and talkative one. I really like Sheldon, he cracks me up so much due to his social inept and him being a creature of habit is so unbelievable. If I were to have a friend like him I think I would have abandoned him a million years ago. His total inability to be considerate is very much a pain in the behind although that’s what makes him the genius he is. As I always say God is always fair. He creates everyone equal in their own unique and special way. Kudos to Jim Parson though for memorizing the tough lengthy speeches that Sheldon inevitably dishes out to everyone, being the genius he is.

I think my favorite episode yet is Season 2 Episode 5 titled “The Euclid Alternative“. In this episode, Leonard works nights in the lab and Sheldon who doesn’t drive is forced to find alternatives to go to work. He ‘invokes’ a favor from Penny, their next door neighbor, on her off day to drive him to work. On the way, Sheldon’s obnoxious ways forces Penny to abandon him. Sheldon’s friends decided an intervention was required and forced Sheldon to get a driver’s license from the DMV.

When they get to the DMV, Penny asks Sheldon why he didn’t get his license at 16 like everybody else?
Sheldon’s answer: I was otherwise engaged.
Penny: Doing what?!?
Sheldon’s answer: Examining perturbative amplitudes in n=4 super symmetric theories leading to the reexamination of the ultraviolet properties of multi loop n=8 super gravity using modern twistor theory.

Sheldon proceeds to argue with the lady at the counter about the correctness of the questions on the test.

Question: How many car lengths should you leave in front of you while driving?
Sheldon’s question: There is no way to answer that question as a car length is not a standardized unit of measure.

Question: When are roadways most slippery?
Sheldon’s answer: When covered by a film of liquid sufficient to reduce the coefficient of static friction between the tire and the road to essentially zero but not so deep to introduce a new source of friction.

The lady at the counter just proceeds to give him his learner’s permit. And Sheldon yelps an “Aced it”. Gosh… A whole lot of very good humor which do not involve the topic of sex of genitals. Kind of rare nowadays. I mourn for our generation.
